Note: These guides were written for Uniview NVR users who prefer to change settings remotely using a mobile or desktop browser (Internet Explorer). Remote and local configurations share many similarities and only the locations and availability of each feature may vary. The Uniview NVR Manual can provide more information if what you are looking for is not found in this simple guide or if you prefer local access by connecting a mouse and display to your NVR.

How Do I Access My Uniview Security System?

There are two ways to interface with your Univew Security System and to access all its features and configuration options you can choose to access it locally or remotely. Local access refers to connecting your Network Video Recorder to a display and a USB mouse. The monitor and the mouse will serve as the input-output for interfacing. Remote access refers to connecting to your Network Video Recorder through a browser (Internet Explorer provides the greatest compatibility) installed on a device that is in the same network as the Security System.

Local Access and First Time Setup

The NVR interface can be accessed directly by simply connecting the NVR to a display (this can be done with an HDMI or older VGA cable) and to a mouse. Once the display and the mouse is connected and the login screen is displayed, proceed to login. Since this is the first time, we will be using the default username and password (at the time of writing default login and password are admin and 123456) found on the manual that came with the NVR.

After logging in, Uniview’s privacy policy will be shown for you to review. Once you have reviewed and accepted, you will immediately gain access to the NVR and cameras connected to it. But, since it is the first time we are logged in and we are still using the default credentials, we will be prompted to change the login information. You will be using the new password for all your future access with the NVR.

Once the password has been changed, a pattern lock will also be prompted (this is optional and can be skipped). After doing so, the Privacy Policy will be displayed for the user to review. The screen that follows the Privacy Policy will let us connect our mobile devices to the NVR. This will grant access to Live View, alerts, and other configurations we may want.

The device QR code will be presented here. Allowing you access to the EZCloud feature. Devices can be added to the cloud manually but it is far easier to just use a link given from the QR code. If you want to pair the NVR with the EZView app, click here to read more about it.

The next step is to set or synchronize the time. This step will ensure that all scheduling configurations you will set and all alerts and alarm information will be accurate and will work based on your local time.

After this, you will be prompted to check the TCP/IP settings, the default settings will work for most people. If you need to specify networking (usually when DHCP is not enabled on other devices on the network), please do so here. You will still be able to alter this later.

Once the time and the password have been configured, you are now ready to enable and disable the features of the NVR.

To access the menu, you can right-click on any part of the screen and then click on Menu. It can also be accessed along with other options by moving your cursor to the bottom left of the screen. This will take you to the SETUP screen where you can enable and customize alerts, features, and other options available to you.

Remote Access and First Time Setup

You can also access the NVR interface through the use of a browser on a device connected to the same network as the NVR. To do this, you will need the IP address of the NVR you wish to connect to. The easiest way to find this on a Windows PC is with Uniview’s EZTools which can be downloaded here. Once installed on your computer, running the EZtools will automatically show you all connected Uniview devices.

The IP address can also be obtained by logging into your router and checking connected devices, using the command prompt (arp -a command and checking for new devices on the private network) or simply using another display for the NVR to check the current IP address of the device.

Note: Any browser should work to alter configurations, however using Internet Explorer will be the easiest to access the live view. (due to some newer browsers not supporting certain plugins).

From here, we can see the IP address given by our router to the NVR. 192.168.254.192. It will likely be different for you. Clicking on the Remote Web button will open your default browser and take you to the NVR interface.

You can then proceed to login to your Uniview NVR Interface. Since this is the first time, we will be using the default username and password found on the manual that came with the NVR. After logging in, Uniview’s privacy policy will be shown for you to review. Once you have reviewed and accepted, you will immediately gain access to the NVR and cameras connected to it. But, since it is the first time we are logged in and we are still using the default credentials, we will be prompted to change the login information. You will be using the new password for all your future access with the NVR.

Once the password has been updated, you will be greeted by the Live View display. Clicking on any of the cameras found on the left will show you live footage from it. In this case, a single IP camera is connected to the 4-Channel NVR.

From here, you can now click on SETUP to access all configurations and features and set them up to your preference.

How Do I Start Recording And Scheduling?

Once properly installed and powered, most Uniview Security System immediately starts recording and saving footage to the Hard Disk Drive. To configure when and what types of footage you choose to save, you only need to navigate to the Recording Schedule tab.

Navigation: Setup > Camera > Schedule

1.Select which Camera to configure.

2.Select your preferred duration (in seconds) of the pre-record footage to be included in each saved recording.

3.Select your preferred duration (in seconds) of the post-record footage to be included in each saved recording.

4.Switch On the recording schedule feature.

5.You have two options for setting up the schedule.

• Click on Edit and a scheduling window will open.

• Click on the colored Event Types on the right side of the time table.

• Setup your preferred schedule scheme.

Pre-Record and Post-Record:

If the Pre-Record and Post-Record values are set to 60 seconds and 300 seconds respectively and using motion detection as a trigger, here is how it will play together:

• The camera is monitoring the road.

• At 10:26:30 PM, a running car entered the scene and left after 30 seconds at 10:27:00 PM, this triggers the motion detection event and fires up the recording.

• Footage from the camera from 10:25:30 PM which is 60 seconds prior to the event (determined by the Pre-Record) will be included in the saved recording data.

• Since our motion detection does not have a delay, let us determine that the motion detection event ended when the car left the scene at 10:27:00 PM.

• Since the Post-Record is set to 300 seconds or five-minutes after an event, the system will include footage from the camera up to 10:32:00 PM.

• When the security system owner checks the recorded events the next day, he will find footage of a motion detection event which starts at 10:25:30, 60 seconds before the car enters the scene, and ends at 10:32:00 PM, 300 seconds after the car left the scene.

• The final video will be 06:30 in length. 60 seconds pre, 30 seconds event, and 300 seconds post.

Event-Types:

• Normal: The NVR will continuously record all footage on this schedule.

• Event: The NVR will only record footage during an ongoing event.

• Motion: The NVR will only record footage when motion is detected.

• Alarm: The NVR will only record footage when an alarm is triggered.

• None: The NVR will not record any footage.

The setup that is shown on the screenshot above can be interpreted this way. During weekdays, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the system will monitor and record all footage into memory. The rest of the day, the system will not record anything unless a motion trigger or an alarm event is detected. During weekends, the system will not record anything except for motion-triggered events. During holidays, the system will not record anything unless an event is triggered.

How Do I View Playback, Timeline, and Events?

The Playback tab is found between the Live View and Setup tabs of your Uniview Web-Based Interface. As always, Internet Explorer would provide the widest range of options not available to other browsers.

Navigation: Playback

The playback sidebar is the first point of interest. The top drop-down allows you to filter what types of playback you wish to view. The options are as follows:

Normal: Default playbacks and scheduled recording sessions.

Tag: Shows a playback list that matches a tag keyword.

To utilize this feature, you will need to create tags on certain times you want to save for future reference. To do this, click on the time you want to create your tag and click on the Add Customized Tag button on the toolbar as shown here:

A window will open that allows you to name your tag and adjust the time.

After clicking OK, the new tag will be created. To search for tagged footage, change the filter into Tag, click on the Camera, specify the Keyword, set the time range to search between, and then click search as shown below:

This will display all tagged footage that matches the Keywords.

Event: Shows playback list for a matching event. Very similar to the above example but a simpler approach is only looking for footage of recorded events. To use this function change the filter to Event, choose a specific Event-Type from the drop-down list, select the Camera, specify the Time Range the system will search. Click search. This will display all events that match the Event-Type captured by the camera within the time range.

Smart: The system analyzes recordings for smart search results.

How Do I Monitor And Manage My Storage?

To monitor and manage your storage, you will need to access the Hard Disk group on the setup. The settings and their functions are explained below.

Navigation: Setup > Hard Disk > Hard Disk

Hard Disk

This tab shows you details of the current storage situation of your NVR. The total capacity and the available free space can be monitored from this tab alongside options to add and more storage.

• Refresh: Activating this option refreshes the list.

• Add: Allows for the addition of a connected hard disk.

• Format: Erases the data of a hard disk by formatting partitions.

• Configure: Allows you to determine the read/write properties of each drive.

Disk Group

This tab allows the creation and management of Disk Groups. A handy tool if managing a large number of Hard Disks and to simplify storage allocation.

Navigation: Setup > Hard Disk > Disk Group

• Disk Group: Allows the creation of disk groups.

The disk group feature allows us to assign hard disks to a disk group and use the disk group to store recordings and snapshots of specified cameras. Different arrays can be assigned to different disk groups. Redundant disks cannot be assigned to any disk group. Disk group information will be initialized if any disk in the group is formatted.

Allocate Space

This tab allows setting a maximum storage allocation for each camera on a disk group.

Navigation: Setup > Hard Disk > Allocate Space

• Select Camera: Select which camera to configure.

• Disk Group: Specifies which disk group to configure the camera for.

• Max Recording Space: Determines the allocated storage size in GB for video recordings.

• Max Image Space: Determines the allocated storage size in GB for image snapshots.

• Copy: Allows copying of configuration to selected cameras.

Advanced

This tab will determine what the Network Video Recorder will do once the Hard Disk Drives are full and new footage needs to be saved. Setting this to Overwrite should allow the NVR to delete older footage to make space for new ones to be saved while setting this to Stop will prevent any new recordings to be saved.

Navigation: Setup > Hard Disk > Advanced

• HDD Full: Determines whether to overwrite old recordings or stop once the HDD is full.

How Do I Set Up Tamper Detection?

To set up Tamper Detection, you will need to access the Tampering section of the Camera Setup.

Navigation: Setup > Camera > Tampering

• Navigate to the Tampering tab.

• Select which Camera to configure.

• Enable the Tampering Detection feature.

• Set the Sensitivity of the detection feature.

• Set when the feature will be active on Arming Schedule. In the screenshot above, the feature will be active at all times. If tampering is detected, it will create an event and trigger a set of actions specified on Trigger Actions.

How Do I Set Up Motion Detection?

Navigation: Setup > Camera > Motion

• Navigate to the Motion tab.

• Select which Camera to configure.

• Enable the Motion Detection feature.

• Set the Sensitivity of the detection feature.

• Click on the Draw Area button to create an area on the screen you prefer the motion detection feature to monitor. You can have multiple areas on the screen or fill it entirely. The Clear All button removes all drawn areas.

• Set when the feature will be active on Arming Schedule. If the motion is detected, it will create an event and trigger a set of actions specified on Trigger Actions.

How Do I Set Up Face Detection?

The Face Detection feature creates an EVENT when a person’s face is detected by the Video Content Analysis. It will then proceed to take screenshots of the person or persons detected.

Navigation: Setup > VCA > Face Detection

• Navigate to the Face Detection tab.

• Select which Camera to configure.

• Enable the Face Shot feature.

• Select whether to monitor the Full Screen or only a Specific Area.

• If Specific Area was selected as the Detection Area, click the Draw Area tool to create regions in the footage that will be monitored by this feature.

• Set the Sensitivity of the feature.

• Advanced: Allows further customization of the feature options if preferred.

• Face Detection Tab: Contains the options for scheduling and possible trigger actions.

• Set when the feature will be active on Arming Schedule. If a face is detected, it will create an event and trigger a set of actions specified on Trigger Actions.

How Do I Set Up Line Crossing Detection?

The Cross Line Detection feature creates an EVENT when an object crossed a specified line. This feature has 3 modes. A<->B which creates an event whenever an object crosses the line. A->B which only triggers when an object moves from side A to side B. B->A which only triggers when an object moves from side B.

Navigation: Setup > VCA > Cross Line Detection

• Navigate to the Cross Line Detection tab.

• Select which Camera to configure.

• Enable the Cross Line Detection feature.

• Click on the Draw Area tool to create lines that will be monitored by this feature. When drawing up the lines, choose the Trigger Direction which determines what direction the objects that cross the line should be headed to be counted. Set the Sensitivity of the feature.

• Set when the feature will be active on Arming Schedule. If a crossing is detected, it will create an event and trigger a set of actions specified on Trigger Actions.

How Do I Set Up Intrusion Detection?

The Intrusion Detection feature creates an EVENT when an object that meets the minimum size relative to the region (based on percentage) enters any of the specified regions and stays inside the region past the minimum time threshold.

Navigation: Setup > VCA > Intrusion Detection

• Navigate to the Intrusion Detection tab.

• Select which Camera to configure.

• Intrusion Detection: Toggles the feature on or off.

• Click on the Draw Area tool to create regions that will be monitored by this feature. When drawing up the lines, set Time Threshold which determines the minimum amount of time in seconds that the intruder is in the region for an event to be created, the Sensitivity which determines the sensitivity of the feature, and the Percentage which determines the minimum percentage of the region that should be covered by the intruder for an event to be created.

• Set when the feature will be active on Arming Schedule. If an intrusion is detected, it will create an event and trigger a set of actions specified on Trigger Actions.

How Do I Set Up People Counting?

The people counting feature is used to monitor the number of people entering or leaving an area.

Navigation: Setup > VCA > People Counting

• Navigate to the People Counting tab.

• Select which Camera to configure.

• Enable the People Counting feature.

• If Shoulder Demarcation is enabled, it adds resizable short parallel lines to the main people-counting line. Any passing person that is smaller than the demarcation will not be included in the count.

• Set the Sensitivity which determines the sensitivity of the feature.

• Set the Direction which determines which direction of people will the devices count.

• If enabled the Clear By Schedule clears the count found on the OSD at the time set on the next option. This does not affect the Statistics, only the values on the OSD.

• Set the Clear At which determines the time when the Clear By Schedule purges the OSD counting record. This does not affect the Statistics, only the OSD.

• Click on the Draw Area tool to create regions that will be monitored by this feature.

• Clear Counting Result: Activating this option will clear the OSD counting record immediately.

• Statistics: Allows viewing and generating tables and charts containing the counting records.

How Do I Adjust Image Enhancements, Exposure, Infrared, and Starlight?

Although fully-functional and is configured by default, you can specify desired image enhancements on the Image tab.

Navigation: Setup > Camera > Image

• Navigate to the Image tab.

• Select which Camera to configure.

• Select which Image Scene preset to use. Choose custom to create your own which you can configure by editing the values and fields on the dropdown lists right next to the preview.

• Default: Click this to restore the selected Image Scene to its default values.

How Do I Adjust Resolution, Frame Rate, Bit Rate, and Video Compression?

Adjusting the resolution, frame rate, bit rate, and compression of recorded footage can be done by navigating to the Encoding Tab.

Navigation: Setup > Camera > Encoding

• Navigate to the Encoding tab.

• Select which Camera to configure.

• Storage Mode: Select which stream to use for storing footage. By default, the mainstream is used for storage.

• Capture Mode: The options here are the presets you can use if preferred.

• Main/Sub/Third Stream: These sections allow greater configuration of each stream.

◦ Stream Type: Select your preferred stream type.

· Normal: main stream that is intended for scheduled recording.

· Event: main stream that is intended for recording triggered by events such as alarm inputs or motion detection alarms.

◦ Video Compression: Select your preferred video compression standard. The listed options depend on the standards supported by the camera.

Resolution: Select your preferred resolution for the selected stream.

◦ Bit Rate Type: Select your preferred bit rate type.

· CBR: Constant Bit Rate is used to maintain a specific bit rate by varying the quality of video streams. It is preferred when limited bandwidth is available. The disadvantage is that video quality will vary and may decrease significantly with increased motion in the scene.

· VBR: When using Variable Bit Rate, video quality is kept as constant as possible, at the cost of a varying bit rate, and regardless of whether or not there is motion in the image. It is ideal when high quality is a requirement, especially when there is motion in the picture.

◦ Image Quality: This parameter is effective only when Bitrate Type is
set to VBR. 9 levels are provided.

◦ Bit Rate (Kbps): Select your preferred number of bits transferred per second. Select a value or select Custom and then set a value as needed.

Range: Select the bit rate range. Currently the range is fixed.

◦ Frame Rate (fps): Select the number of frames per second.

◦ I Frame Interval: Number of frames between two adjacent I frames.

◦ I Frame Range: Range of I frames. Currently the range is fixed.

How Do I Name My Cameras and Manage On-Screen Display?

Navigation: Setup > Camera > OSD

• Navigate to the OSD (On-Screen Display) tab.

• Select which Camera to configure.

• Set the Camera Name. 0 – 40 Characters. Case-Sensitive.

• If enabled, Sync OSD Camera Name will lock the OSD Camera Name to the Camera Name.

• Set the OSD Camera Name if Sync OSD Camera Name is not enabled.

• In addition to the Camera Name, you can add more elements to your display:

◦ Show Time: Displays the current system time on the display.

◦ Show Name: Displays the camera name on the display.

◦ Count People: Displays the current value of the People Counting feature on the display.

How Do I Directly Transfer Footage From My Security System to My USB?

To transfer footage from the Network Video Recorder to your USB, you will need to create a video clip from the recorded footage, then save it to your USB.

• Plugin your USB device.

• Navigate to the Playback tab.

• Locate the recorded footage.

◦ Select the playback type.

◦ Select the video quality or event type.

◦ Select the camera.

◦ Select the date.

• For an advanced search, follow this guide.

• Select where you want to start the clip by clicking the time on the timeline.

• Click the Start Clipping button to mark the beginning of the clip.

• Select where you want to end the clip by clicking the time on the timeline.

• Click the Stop Clipping button to mark the end of the clip.

• The Save button, located next to the Start/Stop Clipping button, will now be enabled. Click it and choose the directory/folder where you want the clip to be saved.

Before starting the upgrade, it’s recommended to back up your current settings and data to prevent any potential loss.

Step 3. Select ‘Downloads’ to find and download the latest firmware version (for example, ND9425P, as shown in the picture).

Step 4. After downloading, unzip the file to find a .img file.

Step 5. To update the firmware, access the NVR and import the .img file via Settings > System > Maintenance > Update Firmware.

There are two ways to access the NVR: via a Web console or a Local console. Please choose the appropriate method for accessing your NVR.

Navigate to Settings > System > Maintenance > Update Firmware and follow the previously mentioned steps.

Firstly, place the .img file on a USB drive and insert it into the NVR.

Then, access the system settings by clicking on the gear icon in the local view.

How to export debug logs and enable remote access function from ND-Series NVR(Linux-based)?

How to export the backup/configuration file of the ND/NV-Series NVR(Linux-based)?

The NVR backup file contains the device configuration files, usually this file is exported as a security measure in case the device needs to be reset to defaults and then be restored with a predetermined configuration or previous configuration. This file can also be used by VIVOTEK Technical Support in case they require to reproduce an issue (using the same configuration parameters). In order to export the backup file of the ND/NV-Series NVR please follow the next guide:

How do I connect my TVI system to my phone app?

1.Open the LaView NET app. In the menu tap LaView P2P.

2.In LaView P2P click Register.

3.Enter email address and verification picture. Tap get verification code. Email with verification code will be sent to registered email. Create username and password after entering code.

4.Login using email/username and password. Enable “Auto-login”.

5.Tap the (+) icon to add a device to the account.

6.Scan the QR code on top of the system.

7.Tap the (+) symbol to add your system.

8.Enter the verification code located on the side or back of the system. Also found under Maintenance>System Info.

9.Tap on the newly added device.

10.Press “Start Live View” and be sure to enjoy your system.

*If using 4G/LTE with bad signal, you may not obtain a picture. Attempt using a strong signal.

How do I download videos off my TVI System?

To download video footage you’ll need a flash inserted into one of the USB ports on the system. Then go to Main Menu>Export>Normal. Once in the exporting page, you’ll need to select the channel the video was recorded on along with the starting time and end time to search for footage.

Then click on “Search” at the bottom and you’ll have some video previews show up. You can select any of the previews and play it on the top right hand side. When you know what files you’ll need check mark the box on the upper left hand corner of the preview window and click on “Export” at the bottom. Once the export is done, you’ll now have all the files on your flash drive.

How do I format my HDD?

To format your HDD you’ll need to go to the Main Menu>HDD>General. Once in the HDD menu, check mark the box to the left-hand side of the HDD information. Then click on “Format” or “Int” at the bottom. Please note this will delete all information off the HDD.

How do I playback my recordings?

To playback videos go to Main Menu>Playback>Normal. In that section choose your camera(s) on the right-hand side. Then double click any of the days on the calendar with either a dark blue or red on them. This should automatically start playback for that day. Use the bar at the bottom to jump to a specific time during that day.

I have everything plugged in, but all I see on my screen is “No Video”

The system should automatically pick up cameras once they are connected and have power. Be sure to check the power source for the cameras. If the power is connected correctly there may not be enough power be supplied. Cup your hands over the lens and if the IR lights turn on, then the camera has enough power. If not, you may need to try a different outlet for the cameras.

I’m having issues connecting my DVR to my phone.

Possible Fixes:

1.Please go to Menu-Configuration-Network and under the General tab make sure enable DHCP is selected, if it is not enabled then select enable and apply. If you had to enable it, restart the NVR and try the P2P setup again.

2.If you are still having issues, make sure DDNS is NOT enabled(unchecked). If DDNS is checked, uncheck it and apply then go back to Platform Access and disable P2P and apply. Once both are disabled, do a power cycle and reboot the unit. After the unit restarts enable P2P again, and do another power cycle.

3.Go to Extranet Access, Platform Access or DDNS and make sure LaView P2P is selected then apply, also make sure “Enable Stream Encryption” is disabled.

4. If none of these work, then it could be a network issue. Try to restart your modem/router by unplugging it for about 45 seconds. Plug it back in and restart the NVR, then try to reconnect your system to the P2P account.

How do I find my system’s IP address?

To find your system’s IP address go to Main Menu>Maintenance>System Info>Network. The IPv4 Address at the top is your local IP. If your IP address is 0.0.0.0 or 192.0.0.64, this means your system is offline. There are a few causes from this, but usually it’s a bad ethernet cable or the cable is not plugged in properly to either the DVR or Router. If those are checked to be correct, try restarting your router by unplugging it for a minute and restarting the DVR.

-If you have DVR starting from LV-N52xxxx please download “LaView Patrol”

-If you have DVR starting from LV-N9xxxx, LV-D11xxxx, LV-D21xxx, or LV-T94xxxx, please download “LaView Net”

You’ll need to upgrade the systems firmware to fix this issue. Try to upgrade the firmware immediately after the system has restarted to avoid a potential reboot during the upgrade process. Please follow the instructions below to do this.

To backup files on your DVR connect the USB drive to the USB port then go to Main Menu-Storage-Backup-Select USB device-Backup-Select “AVI”-Choose Start & End Time-Add-Select File-Start. Once the file has been backed up to the device please disconnect the USB drive.

How Do I set up recording on my DVR? – LV-D04xxxxx

Instructions:

1.Right click on the camera screen and left click on “Record” make sure the system is setup for Schedule.

2. Go to Main Menu>Configuration>Record>Record Plan>SET>Select period 1 for Normal(Continuous) or MD (Motion Detection) and then check the Select All box to copy the settings to the rest of the week. Click Apply then OK. If you’d like to set up a different schedule for each day, set the record plan for specific days individually.

3. Click the “Copy” button in the Record Plan section to copy the settings to all the other camera channels, press Apply and then Ok. All channels will have the same color scheme if this is done correctly.

How do I connect my DVR to my cell phone? – LV-D04xxxxx

Please use our point to point service. To get the P2P service working on the DVR go to Main Menu- Configuration- Network- make sure DHCP is checked (if not please check then click app. to apply). Then go to P2P under network and make sure that state says online (For model LV-KDT0808B7W go to Advanced-P2P service).

If it says the DVR is offline please check the Ethernet cable. Once P2P is confirmed online we will move to the LaView Mobile app that you can download from the Play Store or App Store. In LaView Mobile we will add a device with the “+ Device” then enter the Device ID and password shown in the P2P area. Make sure to save on the top right. Once you have your new device click on it then select 4 cameras and click the Play button. Live View should now start.

My UI Interface shows “No signal” or “Black Screen”

We need to divert this issue into two situations:

1. DVR Indicator light is on:

(1) Cause: The camera system’s video output resolution is 1080P. If your TV monitor resolution is below 1080P, this issue will occur. Steps:

Please right-click and hold your mouse for over 10 seconds to see if the system can reboot or not. Or, please try to connect the system to another TV monitor with a higher resolution (above 1080P)

(2) Cause: The hard disk drive inside of the DVR box is broken, and use the screwdriver to open the DVR box to unplug the wires of the hard disk drive, and reboot the DVR to have a try. If the DVR box can be rebooted after unplugging the wires of the hard disk drive(HDD), which means the HDD is having the issue, and needs a replacement, plz contact email love@hiseeu.com for a replacement HDD if their warranty is still 1 year, and if the warranty is over 1 year, plz leave a five-star review for us to apply for a free HDD

2.DVR Indicator light is off:

(1) Cause: The power adapter 12V 2A connected to DVR box is broken

Step: Use another power supply 12v 2A to power on the DVR unit to have a try

We need to upgrade the system to solve this problem, and check customer’s NVR mainboard info first, and take a photo for us to make sure about firmware verison, then we will ask manufacturer to send us a firmware to upgrade the system to solve this problem

1. If you are in the phone call , just let the customer take a photo of the mainboard, and send it to email love@hiseeu.com. We will ask for a firmware to solve this problem during our working time

(Different versions have various firmware, there is no standard firmware to upgrade the system, so we need to ask the original manufacturer to do that)

1. Ask the customer to open the DVR box by using the screwdriver, and take a photo of this mainboard, and make sure the QR Code is clear enough for us to scan

2.After receiving the photo of the mainboard, we will ask the XM Manufacturer for a firmware, and upgrade the NVR with the new firmware.

Attached upgrade firmware is for your reference, please download and unzip it first.

1. Copy these 2 files to your USB flash drive, the root directory(Do not under any folder, see the picture attached)

2. Power off the DVR and insert the USB device

3. Power on the DVR, it will upgrade automatically. Please give it a try and let us know the outcome.

How to Sign Up APP Account

Please follow these instructions to sign up for an account via your mobile number.

1. Click on Sign Up

2. Sign Up by email or Select Mobile Number

3. Select the correct country code +1, input your mobile number and click on “Get code”

4. A code will be sent to the mobile phone number, input the verification code and continue.

[Note: You can tap on “Local” for quick login without registration. (In this situation, you still can have live view and playback but are not able to receive motion detect alarm message), so mostly we suggest customers to sign up an account first]

Network “Probing DNS”?

1. Go to Monitor UI Interface, and Navigate to “Main Menu > Network > Net Service”, if the “Cloud Status” shows connected, means NVR/DVR is online

–>2. If the cloud status shows “Probing DNS”, Please Navigate to “Main Menu > Network > Check the icon of “Enable DHCP”–>Apply; –>Reboot the DVR by unplugging the power adapter and re-plug it, then double-check the cloud status ( only cloud status shows )

One or two cameras are not wokring

(1) BNC Cable connected to Camera is broken

Step: Use another BNC cable to connect the camera to have a try

(2) The port of the DVR box is broken

Step: After changing the BNC cable, and still there is no camera image, plz insert the camera into another port of the DVR to have a try

(3) Camera is broken after troubleshooting with the steps （1）–（2）

Unable to open VMS archive file

Please drag the exe file to your Desktop interface (do not under any folder) and run it again.

Like it the photo shows , plz do have a try again ,the VMS will run normally

What if the APP keeps asking the user and password?

Step: Plz input the Monitor UI user name and password to resolve this issue

The cause： Sometimes the APP would be in the process of auto-maintain, so it would ask for the user name and password to protect the account’s safety. This page will pop up when you want to live to view the camera.

Note: Some customers enter the App account user name and password. Actually, it’s the Monitor UI user name and password

As for how to find out the user name and password, plz go next to the TV monitor UI Interface, and right click the mouse from “Log out–Log out“, then right click the mouse and navigate to “Main Menu“, this interface [system login] will pop up, and here are the user name and password we need to enter into the app

If device shows “offline”, there could be two causes:

(1) DVR is not connected to network successfully, plz go back to Monitor UI Interface to check if the cloud status shows connected or not in the path of “Main Menu > Network > Net Service”

(2) The way he adds the device to the app is wrong, especially some customers don’t know how to find out the QR Code and input the wrong user name and password

What should I do If I forgot my DVR password

1.Right click mouse from home screen, Click “Log Out–>Log Out”

2.Then click “Forget password” ＞ “Forget answer ” ＞ Then you will see two “QR code” on the monitor

3.Open your Mobile APP “XMEye Pro” ,

(1). Click the “+” icon on the top right corner—>Hit “NVR”

(2). Click “Forgot your device password”–> Scan the QR code (CAPTCHA on the TV monitor)

(3). Scan the QR code shown on your TV monitor. You will get the verification code.

(4). Input the code in “CAPTCHA”

Why can’t live view the videos on mobile APP or PC Client VMS

1.Please make sure that your DVR system is already connected to the router through ethernet cable successfully

2.Please go to Main Menu > System > Net Service to check the network is connected or not, Cloud should shows: connected

3.Make sure the way you add device to your mobile app or PC client with correct serial number and password

Why the DVR can’t record or playback video

If HDD(Hard disk drive) is having issue or something wrong with record setting, the DVR can’t record/playback the video

1. Check if the hard drive status is normal or error

Navigate to: Main Menu–>Advanced–>HDD info.

If it’s hows “error” or no hard drive info, means hard drive failure. (need to replace hard dirve)

2. Check the record plan is set up for 24/7 continues recording

How do I set up my Hikvision IP CCTV System?

Welcome to our updated comprehensive how-to guide for getting started with your Hikvision IP CCTV system. IP systems are taking over the surveillance world and whether you’re setting up your brand new Hikvision system, or you need help adding more cameras to an existing setup you have, the step-by-step guides in this Megaforum should be all you need to get up and running!

Part 1: How do I install a Hard Drive in a Hikvision NVR?

Any setup with an NVR will need a hard drive to function as it is what all your footage is saved to. The WD Purple Drive is our go-to recommendation for the vast majority of IP setups as it designed with the high workload requirements of 24/7 surveillance solutions in mind. Please see the guide on picking the right HDD to better understand your storage needs and why we don’t recommend using HDD’s that aren’t optimised for use in a CCTV system.

Please see the five simple steps below for getting your hard drive installed into your NVR:

Step 1:
.

Firstly, you’ll need to locate and remove the screws that secure the NVR’s casing to the base so that you can access the inside of it. Typically, you’ll find two of these screws on the back of the unit and, depending on the NVR model, more on the sides – Do not lose these screws!

Step 2:
.

Once inside, your NVR will look something like this. The parts in here you’ll need to identify are the:

1.Motherboard

2.HDD bays (these can range from one to twelve, depending on the NVR)

3.SATA interface connection ports (found on the motherboard, one per HDD bay)

4.SATA interface cables (normally a flat blue or red cable with narrower connections at either end. These come included with the NVR – one per HDD bay)

5.SATA power connection port (also on the motherboard)

6.SATA power cable (sometimes this is already connected to the SATA power port – A black, red and yellow cable with wider 15 pin and 4 pin connections at either end respectively)

7.Four screws (come included with the NVR) with corresponding holes (sometimes six holes to cater for different types of HDD)

Now look at your HDD – fewer things to identify here:

1.SATA interface port (the narrower port on the edge)

2.SATA power port (the wider port, beside the interface port)

3.Four clear screw holes (for securing the HDD to the NVR’s base)

Step 3:
.

Get your hard drive and NVR connected – You can screw the drive into its bay in NVR first if you wish, but it’s normally easier to wire everything up first. Plug one end of the SATA interface cable into the HDD and the other into the corresponding port on the motherboard, then do the same with the SATA power cable. If the power cable has come already connected to the motherboard, then just plug the other end into the HDD’s SATA power port.

Step 4:
.

You now just need to screw the HDD into the bottom of the NVR via the screw holes located in the HDD and corresponding holes in the HDD bay (insert the screws from underneath the NVR into the HDD inside – it can be a bit fiddly).

Step 5:
.

Finally, screw the NVR’s casing back onto the base. Your HDD is now installed and ready to be formatted during the initial NVR setup, which is explained in Part 2.

Part 2: How do I complete the basic setup of my Hikvision NVR?

You now need to configure the NVR so that it’s ready to connect to your network. Don’t worry – this is simpler than it sounds. This initial setup is simplest when done on the local GUI, using a directly connected monitor. The following steps walk you through this initial setup process:

Note – Avoid plugging anything into the back of the NVR until instructed to do so in this tutorial.

Firstly, you’ll need to look at the back of your NVR and make sure you can identify the following parts that are needed for this stage:
.

[1] – PoE (Power over Ethernet) ports (Most Hikvision NVRs have PoE ports which will power any camera via the network cable. Those that do not will require you to connect the camera across remotely, using a separate PoE injector or switch for power.)

[2] – VGA display port

[3] – HDMI display port

[4] – USB port(s) (and mouse – one should come included with the NVR)

[5] – LAN port (and ethernet cable – Cat5e or Cat6 is fine)

[6] – Kettle power socket (the power lead is included with the NVR)

Now, follow these steps. It is easier if you leave your cameras disconnected until prompted later in this guide:

Step 1:
.

Plug the kettle plug into the power inlet to connect the NVR to a power supply.

Step 2:
.

Connect your NVR to a display (this can be any monitor or television) by connecting either an HDMI or VGA cable from the monitor to the corresponding port in the back of the NVR.

Step 3:
.

Plug your USB mouse into one of the NVR’s USB ports.

Step 4:
.

Use an ethernet cable to connect your NVR to your local network – Plug one end of the cable into the RJ45 ports into a network access point (such as an ethernet port on your router), and the other into the LAN port in the back of your NVR.

Step 5:
.

Turn the NVR on and let it boot up. Ignore the beeping noise, it’s completely normal and just the NVR telling you that it isn’t properly configured yet.

You may get a prompt to adjust the NVR’s resolution to match the connected display, click “yes” to view everything in the best resolution supported by your display.

Step 6:

Set your language when prompted.

Step 7:

Set a password for the NVR , as well as a “Channel Default Password”, which will be passed onto any inactive device that is directly connected to the NVR’s PoE ports. We recommend keeping these passwords the same for simplicity’s sake. It’s key that you set a password that the NVR defines as strong and that you remember this password, as resetting the passwords on Hikvision devices can be a hassle that you want to avoid, if possible.

Step 8:

Now set a valid “reserved email” address for the NVR, which Hikvision will use for verification if you need to reset your password.

Step 9:
.

Next, set an unlock pattern of your choice by using your mouse to draw any shape you like – you will be asked to do this twice to confirm the pattern. This will be used to quickly login to your NVR in the local GUI.

Step 10:
.

Now, set your time zone, your preferred date format, and date/time.

Step 11:

On the Network Setup page:

Leave the “NIC Type” as it is.

Either leave the “Enable Obtain DNS Server” box ticked, or untick it and use one these recommended public DNS servers.

It is best to leave the “Enable DHCP” box unticked here. Instead, set the “IPv4 Address” of the NVR to an unused IP address on your network, which is within your gateway’s range. Your Gateway will typically be the IP address of your router. E.g. if your router’s IP address is “192.168.1.1”, you’ll want to give the NVR an IP address within the range of “192.168.1.x”, where “x” is any unused address between “2” and “254”.

Note – DHCP can be left on during this stage of the setup to automatically assign your NVR an open IP address if you like, just be sure to turn it off again once your system up and running. To disable it again once set up, just go to:

System/Configuration→ Network → TCP/IP → DHCP Off → Apply

Input the Subnet Mask of your network (typically it’s “255.255.255.0”) and “IPv4 Default Gateway”. If you’re unsure of these, see the below articles which explain how to check what they are and if a particular IP address is available:

The “Internal NIC IPv4 Address” can be left as it is, this just refers to the NVR’s own LAN address (so Plug and Play cameras will use IP addresses on this range).

Step 12:
.

You can now stop the annoying bleeping! Select your hard drive(s) from the list and click “Init” to format it, and then “Next” when the formatting has completed.

Note – This will completely wipe the drive, so please make sure that any that are being reused to not have data that you might need on them.

Step 13:

The next page is for the Camera Setup. As mentioned earlier, we recommend connecting any cameras after the NVR setup process has completed, so you can skip this page.

Step 14:
.

You will now be taken to the platform access page. Again, skip through and leave this for now.

Note – Please see part 12 for adding the NVR to the Hik-Connect app, which revisits this page.

Step 15:
.

Finally, you’ll be taken to the Change Password page and given the option to set a new admin password. Ignore this, unless you actually want to change your password. Remember, your admin password is different from your activation password, which you’ll need to use when activating individual cameras on your network.

Click “Exit” and “Yes” on the “Exit Wizard” popup.

That’s the initial setup of your NVR complete. You should now be taken to the NVR’s live view page (you won’t see your cameras until these are connected in Part 4), with your main navigation menu at the top of the screen.

Part 3: How do I find my Hikvision device and edit its network settings?

You probably want to be able to view your camera feeds remotely wherever you are; either in a web browser, the iVMS-4200 software, or the Hik-Connect mobile app. All IP CCTV devices communicate over your LAN (local network) and have a unique location on the network. So, you will need to be able to locate where the device you want to view is and make sure it has the right settings for it to work on your LAN. You will then be able to access the device from a PC or mobile device, and connect it with the rest of your CCTV system.

Please follow the steps beneath to find and correctly set your Hikvision device’s network settings.

Step 1:
.

The first step is to work out if you need Hikvision’s SADP tool or not. If you only need to discover and access an NVR and some Plug and Play cameras connected directly to its PoE ports, then you don’t need to use it.

If you aren’t using the SADP tool:

Or, on the NVR’s local GUI (Graphical User Interface – when operating the recorder from a connected monitor and mouse), go to:

System → Network → TCP/IP

Here, you can view and change the NVR’s network settings to match your LAN which is explained in step 2 – you can then ignore the rest of the steps.

If you are using SADP:

If your cameras are connected to your LAN, rather than to an NVR’s PoE ports, you will need to install the SADP tool. This scans for all Hikvision devices on your LAN by their MAC addresses. Now, follow steps 2-5 below.

Step 2:

You now need to identify some of your LAN’s settings, which you need to set to match on your devices.

From a Window’s PC, you will need to use the Command Prompt tool to find these.

If you’re using a Mac, then you can find these by launching System Preferences, and then going to:

Network → Advanced (make sure your Wi-Fi/Ethernet connection is selected on the LHS) → TCP/IP

Make a note of the following numbers, as you will need to use them when changing your device’s network settings:

IPv4 Address – This is the IP address of the computer that you are using. This address is therefore already occupied, so you will not be able to assign any other devices to this specific address. The digits after the final decimal point indicate where the device is located within the range of your local network, which spans 1-254. You’ll need to change the number after the third period (or full stop/dot) to something that is between “1” and “254” and not already occupied by another device on the LAN.

Subnet Mask – This shouldn’t need to be changed on the NVR, it will usually be “255.255.255.0”.

Default Gateway – This is the IP address that’s been assigned to your router. Any device being added to your system needs to be within the range of your gateway in order to be discoverable.

Step 3:

Now, launch the SADP tool again. It should show a list of all the Hikvision devices on your local network and their default network settings. Provided the device is being powered and has a connection to your LAN, then it will show up here. You can also alter the device’s network settings here, and check things like the model number, serial number, the firmware version installed on it.

NB – Remember that any camera that is directly connected to your NVR’s PoE ports will not show up in SADP. This is because the NVR hides any cameras directly connected to it from SADP on its own “subnet”, which is separate from your local network. Don’t worry though, as you won’t need to change the settings for these cameras.

Step 4:

Tick the box beside your device to view and edit the network settings.

If the device hasn’t yet been connected to the network then it will show as “Inactive”. You will be asked to set a password for it when you click the tick-box for it. For more instructions on activating your device, please see Part 6.

Once activated, ticking the box beside your device will change the network settings in the “Modify Network Parameters” window, so that they match your LAN. You need to make sure that you enter the password for that device before clicking “Modify” for these changes to be saved.

Step 5:
.

Check that these changes have been reflected in the SADP device table – you may need to wait a few minutes before refreshing. If they have, then you should be to carry on with getting this device connected to the rest of your system.

NB – If you aren’t the camera’s first owner then you will need to perform a hard reset on it. This will reset the device to its inactive factory state so that you can set new password by activating the camera in SADP. Once this has been done, SADP will allow you to modify each network setting edit the network settings to match your LAN so that you can use the device standalone or add it to your NVR remotely.

Part 4: How do I add a Hikvision device to my NVR?

There are a couple of methods for getting your IP camera connected and recording to your NVR:
.

Plug and Play – This is the most popular and simplest method for smaller setups, as all you need to do is plug your camera straight into the PoE ports in a Hikvision NVR. The NVR will then do the rest of the work. Please note that for Plug and Play to work, the device will need to be inactive or activated with the same password as the NVR.

Remote connection via IP – If you can’t have a wired connection to the NVR, you can instead remotely add a camera on the same network as your NVR to it using the camera’s IP address. For this to work, you will need to make sure to do two things:

1. Replace the power supply that would normally come from the NVR’S PoE ports. Using a PoE switch or injector is usually the best way, as it means you can still add power to the device over the same ethernet cable used for everything else. If not, most will let you connect to a separate PSU.

2. You have connected the camera and NVR to the same LAN and that its network settings are correct for the LAN’s range.

The following steps will guide you through adding new devices using both of these methods. Part 1 covers doing this on the NVR’s local interface (GUI) and part 2 covers how to do this remotely using a web browser.

Method 1 – Via the NVR’s GUI:

Step 1:

On the NVR 4.0 menu at the top of the screen, go to:

Camera → Hover over the desired channel → Click on ‘Edit’ (small icon in the bottom-left corner of channel thumbnail)

Step 2:

An edit window should appear, fill out the fields to add your camera as follows:

Option 1 – Using “Plug and Play”

Connect the camera to the corresponding PoE port number on the NVR (I.e. D1 corresponds to port 1). Then, just select “Plug-and-Play” from the “Adding Method” dropdown, and then click OK to add the camera to that channel – the camera feed should appear after a few seconds to confirm that it’s been picked up.

Note – If you haven’t activated and set a password on the device in SADP, then the IP address should automatically work. The password will be the Activation Password set on your NVR in the initial setup.

Option 2 – Adding manually via IP

Change the “Adding Method” to “Manual”, which will let you alter the other fields.

Now edit the other fields to point your NVR to the camera’s location on the network, like below:

Adding Method – Select “Manual”.

IP Camera Address – Enter your camera’s IP address here (as explained in the introduction, this will need to match the range of your LAN).

Protocol – Select the device’s manufacturer if it is on the list, or “ONVIF” if it is an ONVIF conformant product.

Management Port – “8000” by default will work fine, or whatever you’ve set the device’s Server Port to if it’s been changed.

Channel Port – This refers to the channel that you want to add the camera to, so leave this as the corresponding number for the channel that you would like to edit.

Transfer Protocol – Set this to “Auto”.

Username – The username you set up when activating the device, usually “admin”.

Password – The camera’s password, which you will have set when it was first activated.

Use Channel Default Password – If you have assigned the NVR and camera the same password during their activation, then you tick this box. This will use the NVR’s password to add the camera and will save you from entering it again in the future.

Enable IP Camera Time Sync – Tick this, as it means the camera will synchronise with the time set on the NVR.

Use Default Port – You can leave this unticked, as you have specified the management port already.

Verify Certificate – Leave this box unticked too.

Click OK to save your changes, the NVR should pick the camera up after a few seconds and show the feed on that channel’s thumbnail to confirm this.

Step 3:

To rename the camera, go to:

Camera → Display

Then, select the camera’s channel from the dropdown, and use the field below to set a new name.

Click “Apply” to save your changes.

Step 4:

You may want to rearrange the Live View screen to show the new camera on a particular tile. To do this, first, go to:

System → Live View → View

Then, select the output port for your connected display that you would like to show the camera on, click on the selected tile and then double-click on the new camera to add it to that tile.

You can select different layout options, or create a customised layout using the toolbar at the bottom of the page.

Click “Apply” to save the new layout.

To check the new layout, launch “Live View” using the NVR’s main menu, and then select that layout using the toolbar in the bottom right-hand corner.

Method 2 – In a web browser:

Step 1:

Browse for NVR’s IP address in a web browser, and log in with your username and password for it.

Step 2:

Now, navigate to:

Configuration → System → Camera Management → IP Camera

You’ll be shown a table of all the NVR’s channels, showing which are occupied by cameras, and which aren’t.

These channels normally correspond to the same-numbered PoE ports on the back of the NVR.

Click on the channel that you want to add your device to, and then the “modify” button above the table.

Step 3:

A window titled “IP Camera” should appear allowing you to change the “Adding Method” and “IP Camera Address” set for that channel.

If you haven’t already, you will need to make sure that the camera has a valid IP address and correct network settings for your LAN’s range.

Option 1 – using “Plug and Play”:
.

You just need to make sure that:

• “Plug-and-Play” is set as the adding method

• The camera’s IP address matches the one shown here

• You have entered the correct username (usually “admin”) and password for the camera.

Note – If you haven’t activated and set a password on the device in SADP prior to connecting it to the NVR, then the IP address should automatically work and the password will be the “Channel Default Password” set on your NVR in the initial setup (see step 7 here)

Option 2 – Adding manually via IP:

Change the Adding Method to Manual, which should let you alter the other fields.

Now alter the other fields to point your NVR to the camera’s location on the LAN, like below:

IP Camera Address – Insert the camera’s IP address

Protocol – Select the brand of your camera here, or ONVIF if it is ONVIF conformant and the manufacturer doesn’t appear in this list.

Management Port – This is the camera’s network port, which is usually 8000 by default.

Username – The username that you set for the camera, which is usually “admin”.

Password – The password assigned to the camera upon activation in SADP. If you have automatically activated the camera by plugging it into your NVR’s PoE ports, this will the the “Channel Default Password” set during the NVR setup.

Confirm: Retype this password.

Transfer Protocol: This is fine for you to leave as “Auto”.

Green ticks should appear beside each field to indicate that what’s inside is valid. Once completed, you can click “OK”:

The “Security” column should be “Strong” and “Status” should change to “Online” on the “IP Camera” page – If they do, then you’re finished, just return to the Live View page to check that the camera’s feed is now visible.

Note – Clicking the “Start All Live View” button in the toolbar at the bottom of this page will show all of your working cameras feeds at the same time.

NightOwl DVR NVR Troubleshooting

1. Recorder Not Powering On

If your recorder is not powering on, please try the steps below before contacting technical support.

a.See if your recorder is receiving power. To do so:

i.Verify the LED is on if your recorder has one.

ii.If your recorder does not have an LED, check the Network port on the rear of the recorder. If the LAN port light is flashing green, the recorder is receiving power.

iii.Some devices feature an internal fan, so if you can hear the recorder’s fan, it is receiving power.

a.If the LED on the recorder is turned ON but you cannot see an image on your monitor, please refer to the Video Loss section of this article.

b.Check to ensure the outlet you have the recorder connected to is receiving power. Plug another device into the outlet, such as a lamp, to see if it works.

c.If the power adapter is connected to a surge protector/power strip or battery backup, then unplug it and connect the recorder directly to the wall outlet. This will help us identify if the issue is with the surge protector/power strip or the battery backup.

d.Ensure the recorder’s power switch is turned to ON.
NOTE: Not all recorders have a power switch.

e.Check to see if the recorder’s power adapter has gone bad. To do so:

i.Ensure you are using the power adapter that came with the recorder.

ii.Check for any physical damage to the power adapter.

iii.Look for signs of melting and/or a burning smell.

iv.Disconnect the recorder power adapter and replace it with a power adapter of the same amperage. If the recorder powers on, then you may have a faulty recorder power adapter. If you are still under warranty, please contact us to open a warranty claim and receive a new power supply.

2. Video Loss

If your recorder is powered on, but you cannot see one or more connected cameras on your TV/Monitor or Smart Device, try the steps below.

Cannot See the Recorder on Your TV/Monitor
If you cannot see any cameras or the recorder menu on your TV/monitor, please:

i.Ensure your TV/Monitor is a minimum of 1080p resolution. If not, please connect the recorder to a TV/Monitor that is.

ii.Ensure the HDMI cable is connected from the recorder to your TV/Monitor.

iii.Ensure you are tuned to the right HDMI input if your TV/Monitor has more than one.

iv.Try replacing the HDMI cable, to see if you have a faulty cable.

v.Try connecting the recorder to another HDMI input or a 2^nd TV/Monitor.

Have Video Loss Only at Night
If you are experiencing video loss, flickering lines or fuzzy images on one or more cameras at night, this may be the result of a faulty camera power supply. Try connecting the camera to a different power supply at night to see if the camera image is corrected.

a.NOTE: If you have NVR IP cameras that are located more than 370ft/100m in distance from the main unit, it is suggested to power them at the final location. The use of other network devices connected between the IP Cameras and the main unit is not supported.

Have a Camera with a Purple/Pink Tint?
If you are experiencing a purple/pink tint with a camera, it is possible that your camera is defective and needs to be replaced. However, please check the following first:

i.Connect the bad camera to a known working channel on the back of the recorder, to see if the camera image improves. If the camera does not have a purple/pink tint when connected to the new channel, then the issue is not with the camera. If the camera still has an issue on the new channel, then the issue is the camera.

ii.Connect a known working camera to the channel where the malfunctioning camera was. If this second camera displays a purple/pink tint, that indicates it may be an issue with that channel or channel’s settings. Please try resetting the Image settings for the channel. If that does not work, perform a Factory Reset. For more information on how to do this, refer to your product’s manual on our support site.

Video Loss On One or More Cameras

i.Check for Camera Compatibility
If you are having an issue with video loss with a camera that did not come with your initial system purchase, check if this camera is compatible with your system.

ii.Check the Camera Connection
Make sure the camera is properly connected and you are using the right camera power supply.

NOTE: Our wired NVR’s use Ethernet cabling and are powered by the NVR. Our Wi-Fi IP cameras each come with their own power adapter and wirelessly transmit video to the Wi-Fi NVR. You may need to re-pair the camera to your Wi-Fi NVR (refer to your product manual for more information).

iii.Check the Camera Settings on the Recorder Menu
Your recorder may have a feature that allows you to mask a camera’s live image, so even when the channel is recording the live video cannot be seen. If you don’t have live video on one channel and don’t see a signal loss or video loss icon, check to see if you can see the motion or recording icons. If you can, the channel may be in covert mode. Please refer to your product manual on our support site for specific information on adjusting this setting.

iv.Check the Video Format
In your recorder’s menu, ensure the video format is set to NTSC. If the video format must be changed from PAL to NTSC, the recorder will restart.

v.Check the Camera’s Power Supply
Once you have checked the connection and camera settings, see if the camera is getting power. Go to the non-working camera, make sure it is plugged in and cover the front with your hands. If you see the red LED lights activate or hear the camera click, then it is getting power. If not, the problem could be the power source (power adapter or power splitter), the BNC video/power cable (BNC Wired DVRs) or the Ethernet cable (Wired NVRs).

vi.Check the Power Splitter (BNC Wired DVRs)
Bypass the power splitter for the camera and plug the non-working camera directly into the power supply without the splitter and check if the camera gets a signal. If so, you have isolated the issue to the power splitter.
NOTE: If a camera is using an extension cable (more than 60 ft.) ensure that the camera has an individual power adapter and is not connected to the splitter. It is recommended to power the camera at the final location with its own power supply. The further a camera is from the recorder, the more power it requires to function.

vii.Check the Recorder’s Channel Port (Wired BNC DVRs and Wired NVRs)
Plug the non-working camera into another channel port. If the camera starts working, then you likely have a bad channel port.

viii.Check the Camera Cable (Wired BNC DVRs and Wired NVRs)
If you are not able to see the camera after connecting it to another channel, try replacing the camera cable with that of a working camera. If this corrects the issue, then you have isolated the problem to the camera cable.

3. Network Connection Issues

If you are having an issue connecting your recorder to the Internet, please follow the troubleshooting measures below. The use of other network devices between the main unit and your Internet Router is not suggested.

a.Check the Ethernet Connection
Ensure the provided Ethernet cable is connected from the Ethernet port (on the rear of the recorder) to your router/network.

b.Check for a Damaged Ethernet Cable or ISP Issues
Unplug the Ethernet cable from your recorder and connect it to another device, such as a computer, to check the cable condition.

i.If you have an Internet connection on your other device, this means that the Ethernet cable works. Plug the Ethernet cable back into the recorder.

ii.If you don’t have an Internet connection on the other device, either the cable is bad, or you are having a problem with your ISP (Internet Service Provider). Connect the recorder using a different Ethernet cable and check the network connection. If you are still having a problem, please contact your ISP.
NOTE: You may need to restart your recorder.

a.Check your Network Settings and IP address
Log in to your DVR/NVR and navigate to the Network Settings and ensure the DHCP is enabled on your system. Using a Static IP may result in connectivity issues. Please refer to your product’s manual on our support site for information specific to your model.

b.Check your Network Connection Speeds
All Night Owl product has a minimum recommended Internet connection speed, which you can find in your product’s specifications. As a general rule, we recommend a minimum of 4 Mbps upload speed for your recorder. Please note that your Internet connection is shared between all the networked devices you have in your home.

c.Reset the System to Factory Default
NOTE: If your product uses the Night Owl Protect App, you must remove it from the app before proceeding. Failure to do so will make your device unusable.

a.All current settings will be erased but your recording will remain on the HDD.
The exact steps to perform a factory reset varies by model. Please refer to your product’s manual on our support site for the exact steps needed.

4. Motion Detection Issues

If your recorder is having problems detecting motion, it is most likely a configuration issue. Some recorders have the option to disable motion detection for specific channels. Additionally, the motion detection sensitivity and motion detection area can affect your recorder’s motion detection performance.

NOTE: By default, most recorders are set to motion detection with high sensitivity.

To troubleshoot:

a.Make sure you are having a motion detection problem. After a motion event occurs, check to see if the motion icon is activated on the channel screen.

b.If so, please check the motion detection sensitivity and detection area setup. If the motion detection sensitivity is too low, or some areas of the camera’s field of view have been deactivated to detect motion, the recorder can miss some motion events that you would like to detect and record. To check these two parameters, please follow the steps:
NOTE: Your menus and options may look different. For exact steps, please refer to your product’s manual on our support site.

i.With your recorder connected to a TV/Monitor, access the Main Menu.

ii.You may be required to log in to the recorder before proceeding.

iii.Click on the “Camera” tab.

iv.Select the “Motion” sub-tab.

v.On this screen, you should be able to adjust the motion sensitivity and motion detection area.

Sensitivity: A lower setting requires more movement in the camera’s field of view to begin recording (highest by default).

Area: Clicking “Set” allows you to configure areas that will and will not detect motion. Red boxes denote areas that will detect motion and uncolored boxes show areas that will not. (see your product’s manual on our support site for more information)

5. Playback Issues

NOTE: Recordings are saved on the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) of your recorder, so the first thing you must check is if the HDD is working properly.

If you are having an issue accessing your recordings or with playback, please check the following:

1.Power Adapter
Check the power adapter and ensure that it is the proper voltage output for your unit.

a.Pre-Installed Hard Drive
Verify that your recorder has a pre-installed HDD. Some models are sold with no HDD installed and customers must purchase and install one.

b.Hard Drive Status
If your recorder has a pre-installed HDD, please check if it has been detected, is formatted and still has free space to save recordings. For more information on accessing the HDD screen on your recorder, please see your product’s manual on our support site.

c.Record Schedule
If you have already checked that your HDD is operational, but you are still having issues with playback, you need to check the recording schedule. By default, the recorder is set up to record when motion is detected. Check the recorder’s record schedule to make sure is set up as desired for each individual channel. For more information on accessing the HDD screen on your recorder, please see your product’s manual on our support site.

d.Time Settings
If you have already checked that your HDD is operational and the recording schedule is correct, but you are still having problems finding recordings, you may be having issues with your time settings. For example, you may be sure an event occurred at a specific time, but there is nothing recorded on your recorder at that time. In this case, the problem could be that the recorder date and time are wrong or not synchronized with the local time. For more information on correcting this issue, please see your product’s manual on our support site.

6. Export Video Issues

If you are having an issue exporting a recording, please check the following:

a.The USB Flash Drive or External HDD you wish to export to must be formatted to FAT32.

b.Please check the external storage device is connected to the USB port located on the back of the recorder.

c.If you’re using an External HDD, ensure it is powered on using the provided power adapter.

d.Once connected to the external storage, if you can’t export your video, your USB device may be in the wrong format or it may not be large enough for the videos you wish to export.

7. Recorder Making Noise

NOTE: There are many reasons why your recorder may be making a noise. Beeps are usually related to a firmware misconfiguration, while other noises may be the result of the HDD or fan failing. Please check the following:

a.Disconnect your recorder from its power adapter. By doing this, you’ll eliminate all noise and you’ll be ready to proceed with the next steps.

b.Once the recorder is disconnected, please unplug all connected cameras on the back of the device. We recommend doing this because buzzer alarms could be active and the motion sensor in one of the cameras could be activating it.

c.With the cameras disconnected, turn your recorder back on and wait for it to load.

d.Go to the recorder Main Menu (you may need to log in after this step).

e.Click on the “General” tab and select the “Alarms” sub-tab.
NOTE: Our recorder menus vary by model. If these options do not look familiar, please refer to your product’s manual on our support site.

f.On the Alarms sub-tab, make sure the buzzer is OFF. You must review each channel individually.

g.Connect all the cameras you unplugged before and check if they are all working.

h.If the problem persists, and you are still hearing a noise, the issue is likely not tied to the firmware or your settings. You may be experiencing an HDD or fan failure.

8. Hard Disk Drive (HDD)

First of all, you will need to ensure your recorder has an HDD. Check your system specifications to see if your recorder has a pre-installed HDD. Some models are sold with no HDD installed and customers must install their own. To troubleshoot, see below:

a.Check the HDD Status
NOTE: A loud grinding sound coming from inside of your recorder can be an indication that the HDD is not working properly.

i.Go to recorder Main Menu. (you may need to log in after this step)

ii.Click on the “Device” tab.

iii.On this screen you will be able to see: If the HDD has been detected (it should appear on the list), the HDD status (it should show status “OK”) and the HDD’s free/total capacity.

iv.If the HDD status is different than “OK”, please try to format it by selecting the HDD in the device list and clicking on “Format Hard Drive.”
NOTE: By formatting your HDD, all the recordings will be erased and cannot be retrieved.

v.If after formatting, the HDD status is not “OK” (unformatted, bad, or other), you may have a bad HDD that needs to be replaced.

IMPORTANT: From the HDD menu, check to see if the overwrite option is on “Auto” (default option). When set to auto, the HDD will continue recording once it becomes full by recording over older recordings, to make way for new recordings. If this option is set to OFF, the recorder will stop recording when the HDD is full.

9. Factory Reset

NOTE: If your product uses the Night Owl Protect App, remove the product from the application first before proceeding. Failure to do so will make your device unusable.

To reset your recorder to the Factory Default settings, follow the next steps:

NOTE: Your recorder’s menus and options may look different. If that is the case and you need additional help, please refer to your product’s manual on our support site for precise steps.

a.Go to the recorder Main Menu. (you may need to log in after this step)

b.Click on “Advanced” on the top left corner of the Main Menu.

c.Click on “Maintain”

d.On this screen locate the “Load Default”tab and click on it.

e.On the next screen select the options you want to restore to Factory Default and then click “OK.” Your recorder will now reboot and be restored to default for the selected settings.

What should I do If I forgot my DVR password

1.Right click mouse from home screen, Click “Log Out–>Log Out”

2.Then click “Forget password” ＞ “Forget answer ” ＞ Then you will see two “QR code” on the monitor

3.Open your Mobile APP “XMEye Pro” ,

(1). Click the “+” icon on the top right corner—>Hit “NVR”

(2). Click “Forgot your device password”–> Scan the QR code (CAPTCHA on the TV monitor)

(3). Scan the QR code shown on your TV monitor. You will get the verification code.

(4). Input the code in “CAPTCHA”

Add device to mobile APP (XMeye Pro)

As for how to add the device to mobile APP(XMeye Pro), please follow the below instructions

–>1. Please connect the NVR box to your Router via Network Cable;

–>2. Navigate to “Main Menu > Network > Net Service”, if the “Cloud Status” shows connected, means NVR is online (Please skip step3),

–>3. If the cloud status shows “Probing DNS”, Please Navigate to Main Menu > Network > Check Enable DHCP–>Apply;

–>Reboot DVR by unplug power adapter and re plug it, then double-check the cloud status.

–>4. Go to your TV Monitor, navigate to Main Menu–>Advanced–>Version–> You will see the serial number.

The QR code contains serial number info.

–>5. Open the mobile APP “XMeye Pro” and register an account by your email

–>6. Click”+” to add device–>Choose “NVR”

Click the “Scan” icon to Scan NVR’s QR Code. (QR code contains username and password)

No need to input the user name and password manually.

And click “Ok”, and go back to the Device page on App,and you will see the device shows status: online ,

If device shows “offline”, there could be two causes:

(1) DVR is not connected to network successfully, plz go back to Monitor UI Interface to check if the cloud status shows connected or not in the path of “Main Menu > Network > Net Service”

(2) The way he adds the device to the app is wrong, especially some customers don’t know how to find out the QR Code and input the wrong user name and password

Enable the APP push notification on mobile app “XMEye Pro”

2.Open “XMeye Pro” mobile App, and navigate to Event–>Device (the one you named)–>Enable “Allow Notifications”

Camera stay in Black’n white during the daytime

It’s a normal situation especially during the switch from night to day, but if the camera keep stayiing in the black and white mode for a long time in the daytime, plz unplug the camera from the DVR port, and replug the wire of the camera into the DVR port to have a try first.

After repluging the wire of the camera, and if the situation happens again, plz contact us for further support

2. Login with the default User Name and Password. Click “SIGN IN”.

3. Navigate to “Device Manager”–>”Manual Add”

4. Login Type: Cloud ID

Device Name: Name Your Device as you like

[Note: most customers do not know how to find the serial number, so they can’t add the device to PC Client

User Name and password: Input the user name and password that you created for the NVR , and we also need to find this from the Monitor UI.

5. Navigate to “Live View”, Click on the device name(serial number), then select “Open All By Sub Stream”

What if the APP keeps asking the user and password?

Step: Plz input the Monitor UI user name and password to resolve this issue

Note: Some customers enter the App account user name and password. Actually, it’s the Monitor UI user name and password

Upgrade NVR/DVR firmware

If customers need a firmware upgrade for NVR/DVR, and we need the “System version” to send to XMmanufacturer to ask for a firmaware to upgrade

Go to Monitor UI Interface, and navigate to “Main Menu– Advanced–Version“

After get the Version:

Please follow the instructions below to upgrade the NVR/DVR firmware. Steps:

Attached new firmware for you, please download it and unzip it.

1. Copy to your USB flash drive, and put it in the root directory(Do not under any folder)

2. Plug the USB device into NVR/DVR

3. Navigate to “Main Menu–> Advanced–> Upgrade”

> Upgrade position(Select your usb device)

–> Upgrade file (Select the firmware)

–> Upgrade

Unable to open VMS archive file

Please drag the exe file to your Desktop interface (do not under any folder) and run it again.

One or two cameras are not wokring

(1) BNC Cable connected to Camera is broken

Step: Use another BNC cable to connect the camera to have a try

Try with the steps:

1. Ask the customer to open the DVR box by using the screwdriver, and take a photo of this mainboard, and make sure the QR Code is clear enough for us to scan

2.After receiving the photo of the mainboard, we will ask the XM Manufacturer for a firmware, and upgrade the NVR with the new firmware.

Upgrade steps

Attached upgrade firmware is for your reference, please download and unzip it first.

1. Copy these 2 files to your USB flash drive, the root directory(Do not under any folder, see the picture attached)

2. Power off the DVR and insert the USB device

3. Power on the DVR, it will upgrade automatically. Please give it a try and let us know the outcome.

My UI Interface shows “No signal” or “Black Screen”

We need to divert this issue into two situations:

1. DVR Indicator light is on:

(1) Cause: The camera system’s video output resolution is 1080P. If your TV monitor resolution is below 1080P, this issue will occur. Steps:

Please right-click and hold your mouse for over 10 seconds to see if the system can reboot or not. Or, please try to connect the system to another TV monitor with a higher resolution (above 1080P)

(2) Cause: The hard disk drive inside of the DVR box is broken, and use the screwdriver to open the DVR box to unplug the wires of the hard disk drive, and reboot the DVR to have a try. If the DVR box can be rebooted after unplugging the wires of the hard disk drive(HDD), which means the HDD is having the issue, and needs a replacement, plz contact email for a replacement HDD if their warranty is still 1 year, and if the warranty is over 1 year, plz leave a five-star review for us to apply for a free HDD

After the steps, if the thing still can’t be resolved, which means the DVR box is broken, plz contact email for a replacement DVR box if their warranty is still 1 year, and if the warranty is over 1 year, plz leave us a five-star review for us to apply for a free DVR box

2.DVR Indicator light is off:

(1) Cause: The power adapter 12V 2A connected to DVR box is broken

Step: Use another power supply 12v 2A to power on the DVR unit to have a try

( If you do not have a spare one, use the one that is connected to 4 cameras to have a try)

(2) Cause: The hard disk drive inside of the DVR box is broken Step: Use the screwdriver to open the DVR box to unplug the wires of the hard disk drive, and reboot the DVR to have a try. Why the DVR can’t record or playback video

Click to enter NVR SETTINGS and click General on the top panel, where you are allowed to adjust system configurations of the NVR. The details of the tabs are described as follows:

Chapter 2-1 General

Device ID: Assign an ID for the NVR to be controlled by the remote controller.
Audio Out Volume: Adjust the volume of the NVR.
Sound On Button Press: Switch on/off the sound when pressing remote control buttons.
Last Boot Time: Shows the last time the system is rebooted.
Automatic Logout: Log out automatically after 30 minutes of inactivity.
Automatic Login: Specify user account to log on automatically when the system power on.

Chapter 2-2 Time

Date/Time: Set the date/time of the NVR.
Date Format: Modify the date display format.
Time OSD: Switch on/off the time to be displayed on the screen.
Time Zone: Change the time zone of the location where the NVR is installed.
Time Sync Mode: Choose how you would like the time to be synced.
NTP Server: Enter the NTP server you want to use.
Time Sync Interval: Choose the interval for the time to be synced.
NTP Status: The status of connection to selected NTP server will appear here.

Chapter 2-3 User

The NVR supports up to 15 sets of individual user settings (including default user administrator, operator, and guest), to which you can assign different access privileges.

User: Enter the name of the user (applicable only to User01-12).
Old Password, New Password, and Confirm Password: If you would like to change the password, enter your previous password and enter the new password and confirm the password. Press Show to reveal the password.
User Permission: Set the access privileges of the user to administrator, operator, or guest.
Load Default: Restore to the default settings.

Chapter 2-4 Storage

Chapter 2-4-1 HDD MGT

In HDD MGT, there are HDD format, file system defrag, check HDD malfunctioned blocks, and HDD periodic inspection. Select a desired HDD and click Format, File System Defrag, Bad Block Check, or Regular Check.

Regular Check:

Allows you to set the interval between system checks: Parameters: Click each device to enter the screen below.

System Reserve Ratio allows you to allocate the percentage of HDD space that will not be occupied by recorded files. In Mount Option, choose the writing mode for the hard drive.

Chapter 2-4-2 S.M.A.R.T.

The S.M.A.R.T. status of your hard drive is displayed in S.M.A.R.T., where you can run analysis (either short or extended) on the HDD. Choose between Short or Extended analysis and click Analysis to start the process. You will see HDD status, information, attributes, and event history under HDD S.M.A.R.T. Information.

Connect a USB device (flash drive or hard drive) to the NVR, and check the one you want to format under this page, and then click Format.

Chapter 2-6 Maintenance

Firmware Update: Choose a firmware file and click Update to proceed firmware update.

Factory Reset: Click Reset to restore the system to the factory settings.
Soft Reboot: Click to soft reset the system.

Chapter 3 Network

Chapter 3-1 General

Enter the required information in the fields:

IP Mode: Select the connection type of the NVR from Static, DHCP, and PPPoE.
IP Address: Enter the IP address you want to use, and press IP Test if necessary.
Subnet Mask: Enter the desired subnet mask.
Default Gateway: Enter the desired default gateway.
Primary DNS: Enter the first priority DNS server.
Secondary DNS: Enter the secondary DNS server in case the primary DNS is not available.
Video Port: Specify a desired video port.
HTTP Port: Specify a desired HTTP port.
HTTPS Port: Specify a desired HTTPS port and configure HTTPS.
FTP Port: Specify the desired FTP port.
MAC: This is the MAC address of your NVR.
PPPoE Account: If you choose to connect through PPPoE, enter the account name here.
PPPoE Password: Enter the required password for PPPoE connection.
PPPoE IP: Your PPPoE IP will be displayed here.
Hotspot IP: Your hotspot IP will be displayed here.

Chapter 3-1-1 Configuring HTTPs Port

The DHD DVR series support HTTPs (Hypertext Secure Transmission Protocol) service. HTTPs is an Internet protocol that ensures the integrity and confidentiality of data as it travels between users’ computers and websites. When users visit any website, they want a secure and private online experience.

HTTPs can be regarded as the advanced security version of HTTP. The SSL protocol is added as a security certificate. Therefore, the website can prevent data thief from directly seeing the transmitted data even if they intercept the transmitted information by using the encryption on the agreement.

There are two options to set HTTPs service:

The first option is to create a free self-signed certificate by filling-in the blank field below. Then, click Create Self-signed Certificate.
The second option is to purchase an SSL certificate by filling-in the blank field below and click on Create Certificate Request. Then, click on the Export Certificate Request to download the request into a PC and use to apply for official certification. After purchasing the SSL certificate from a third party company, click on the Import Signed Certificate.

Chapter 3-2-1 TCP/IP

NVR supports three sets of virtual IP addresses. When TCP/IP is switched On, the NVR can access the camera or another NVR using the specific IP.

1. When activated successfully, a QR code will appear on the screen, and you can access the NVR with Sentinel app by scanning the QR code.

Chapter 3-3 E-Mail

When an alarm is triggered, the NVR can automatically send e-mail notifications to the recipients you designated.

The setting options are described below:

Send E-Mail: Check the box to enable sending e-mail notifications when an alarm is triggered.
E-Mail List: The list shows all saved e-mail addresses.
Edit Contact: Enter the email address you want to save as contacts and click Modify.

Motion: Check to send e-mail when movements are detected.

Chapter 3-4 FTP

When an alarm is triggered, the NVR can automatically send snapshots to the FTP server you designated. The setting options are described below:

FTP Server: Enter the IP address of the FTP server.
Port: Enter the port of the FTP server.
Account: Enter the account name of the FTP server.
Password: Enter the password of the FTP server
Prefix & Postfix: Specify the prefix and postfix of snapshot files.
File Name Format: Change the file name format to suit your need.

Check the cameras that you want to send notifications to the FTP when an alarm is triggered, and specify the folder name where the images are saved.

Chapter 3-5 DDNS

With DDNS, you can access an NVR connected to the Internet through the DDNS URL, whatever the actual IP is. The setting options are described below:

Server: Choose the DDNS server you want to use.
Hostname: Enter the hostname of the DDNS server.
User: Enter the username to log in to the DDNS server.
Password: Enter the password to log in to the DDNS server.
WAN IP: Enter your WAN IP if the NVR cannot automatically get the correct address.
Check Interval: Choose the time interval you want the system to check theDDNS connection.

Note: The DDNS feature requires Internet connection.

Chapter 3-6 Other

The NVR also supports other protocols such as UPnP and SDDP, and related configurations can be modified in the OTHER tab. The setting options are described below:

• UPnP Device Name: The device name shown on the UPnP network.

• UPnP Service: Switch on/off the UPnP service.

IE Default Live View: Select the default streaming type (H.264 or MJPEG) when streaming using Internet Explorer.
Reset on Ethernet Error: Reset the PHY when an Ethernet error is detected, and leave a record entry in the event table
Browser Auto Logout (30 Minutes): Log out automatically after 30 minutes of inactivity.
SDDP Device Name: The device name shown on the SDDP network.
SDDP Service: Switch on/off the SDDP service.
IP Address Filtering: Switch on/off the IP filtering function, press Setup to open the filtering IP address setting dialog.
Over Bitrate Protection: Switch on/off protection function that when network input throughput over the limitation reducing live video decode to protect recording data.
ONVIF Service: Turn on ONVIF support when using with other ONVIF equipments.
IPScan Service: Turn on to work with Camera Search Tool

Chapter 4 Camera

Chapter 4-1 General

Camera Name: Enter the camera name to be displayed on the streaming screen.
Camera Source: Allocate a NVR channel for the camera. Select Off, IP camera, or Auto.
IP Address: Enter the IP address of the camera you want to connect.
HTTP Port: Enter the port for HTTP connection.
RTSP Port: Enter the port for RTSP connection.
User: Enter the username required for camera authorization.
Password: Enter the password required for camera authorization.
Stream Type: Choose whether to stream only the primary video or dual (primary & secondary) videos.
Primary Stream: Select the FPS and GOP for the primary stream.
Primary Stream Bitrate: Select the bitrate for the primary stream.
Secondary Stream: Select the FPS and GOP for the secondary stream (available only if Dual Stream is activated in Stream Type).
Sec. Stream Bitrate: Select the bitrate for the secondary stream.
Decode Ref. : Select the number of reference frame for the decoder, and choose Immediate for lower latency or Smooth for smoother but higher latency video.
Display: Disable the video function (live feeds and playback) of the selected camera.
Sync Time with NVR: Turn On for the camera to sync time with the NVR.
Security Protocol: Check box to allow HTTPS connections to the IP camera. The recommended HTTP port setting is 443.
Test: Press to check ONVIF device information including manufacturer, model #, firmware version, serial # and hardware ID.
Assign RTSP URL: Assign required RTSP URL, NVR will connect to camera via required RTSP URL but not Onvif.
RTSP Multicast Setting: Assign required RTSP multicast port.
IPScan: Click IPScan to scan for connected devices on the network.
Cancel: Click Cancel to stop scanning.
Auto Adjust IP: Automatically assign IP for connected cameras.
Snap: Show snapshot thumbnails for all the cameras.
Set IP: Assign an IP address to the camera.

Chapter 4-2 Video

In this page, you can adjust several camera parameters including Contrast, Brightness, Saturation, and Sharpness.

Click Default to restore the NVR to its factory settings. Click Refresh to update the preview image.

Record Mode: Switch on/off scheduled recording.
Audio: Switch on/off audio recording.
Post-alarm Record: Enable to record after an event takes place. Set the time (second) for the NVR to record after the alarm is triggered.
Weighted Record: If any alarm is triggered when Weighted Record is turned on, the recording frame rate will be adjusted to the pre-determined value (which can be set in CAMERA SETUP). Otherwise, the NVR will record at a lower frame rate (approximately 4-5 FPS).

Note: System Recording Mode must set to Schedule and Recording schedule set to Always.

Chapter 5-2 Schedule

To modify the recording schedule, switch the recording type from Always (continuous recording), Alarm (record only when an alarm is triggered), or No Record (disable recording), and highlight the desired date and time accordingly. Click Apply All to apply your selection of recording type to all dates and time.

Chapter 5-3 Advanced

• System Recording Mode: Choose between Manual or Scheduled recording.

Overwritten: Switch on to overwrite old files when the storage is full.
Pre-alarm Record: Switch on to start recording for a period before an alarm occurs.
Limited Recording: Set the number of days to record (from now to the designated day).
Protected Recording: Set how many days of video the NVR will preserve.
Estimate Recording Time: The estimate number of days that can be recorded based on the hard disk size
Average Recording Bitrate: The average video stream size based on the current bandwidth received by the NVR.
Average Recording Size: The available recording space according to the current installed hard disk.
Average Recording Time: The estimate number of days that can be recorded based on the hard disk size.

Chapter 6 Alarm

Chapter 6-1 General

Alarm Input Type: Set the alarm sensor to Normally Open (NO), Normally Closed (NC), or IP Camera. The last option will trigger the alarm only when receiving a signal from IP cameras.
Motion Enable: Switch on/off motion detection. Remember also to set the motion detection area in the tab MOTION AREA.
Motion Sensitivity: Adjust the sensitivity of motion detection. Higher sensitivity indicates that the alarm can be more easily triggered.
Save Event Snapshot: Enable to store a snapshot on the hard drive when an alarm is triggered.
Motion Popup: The display view pops up when the motion is triggered.
Specify Alarm Text: The alarm text displays on the channel when the alarm is triggered
Display View: Turn on/off the display view when the alarm is triggered.
Display Type: Switching display view to camera/view when alarm is triggered.
Alarm Popup: The display view pops up when the alarm input is triggered
Metadata Popup: The display view pops up when the metadata event is triggered

The NVR supports various external devices such as GPS or POS, and in this page you are allowed the change the settings for these devices. The setting options are described as follows:

How To Setup A DVR/NVR On The Amcrest View Pro App

The following article will demonstrate how to setup your Amcrest DVR/NVR in the Amcrest View Pro app using a P2P (Peer to Peer) method. For more information on how to perform this action please refer to the information provided below.

Step 1: Ensure the DVR or NVR is powered on and is connected to the same network segment as your mobile device.

Step 2: If you haven’t already, download the Amcrest View Pro app on the app store or Google Play store. Once downloaded, open the app and tap on Start to begin.

Step 3: Tap on DVR/NVR.

Step 4: Tap on P2P Connection.

Step 6: Scan the QR code. The QR code can be found on the serial tag along with the scannable barcode.

If the QR code is not able to scan you can also enter in the serial number manually.

Step 7: Create a name for the device and enter a username and password. The default username and password will be admin. Tap “Start Live View”.

Step 8: Update the default password for the device and tap “Start Live View” to access the device in the app.

Follow the steps below to setup motion detection on your camera.

Step 1: From the home screen, tap the icon in the top left corner to open the main menu and select “Configuration Center”.

Step 2: Tap “Motion Detection” in the configuration center menu to access the motion detection settings.

Step 3: Choose which camera you would like to access in the device list menu.

Step 4: In this menu you will notice a toggle switch to enable motion detection. Please toggle the switch to the on position to enable motion detection on the selected device.

You will also notice a list of advanced config tools as well that you can adjust or modify for your motion settings. Here is a list of all the advanced configuration options for motion detection:

• Schedule: Modify motion detection recording timings.

• Anti-Dither: Set how long motion detection can still be triggered after motion stops.

• Sensitivity: Select motion detection sensitivity.

• Region Setting: Specify motion detecting regions of the screen.

• Push Notifications: Set how you would like to be notified once a motion is detected.

• Record: Toggle this switch to start recording when motion is detected.

• Delay: Set how long motion detection recording will continue after a motion event.

• Alarm Out: Configure alarm system integration.

• Snapshot: Toggle this switch to take snapshot when motion is detected.

Congratulations! You have now successfully configured motion detection on the Amcrest View Pro app.

How to Record & Playback Motion Detection Events on the Amcrest View Pro App

Initial Setup

Firstly, make sure your device is connected to your network. Simply find the led button on the back of the camera. A proper connection to the network will have the LED lit solid green.

You will need to download Amcrest View on your smart phone or tablet to edit recordings and playback motion detection events from a mobile device.

Download Amcrest View on your mobile device:

Amcrest View for iOS: Requires iOS 6.0 or later.

Amcrest View for Android: Requires Android 3.0 or later.

You will also need to purchase a microSD card to record and playback any recorded events from your device.

How to Record & Playback Motion Detection Events on Amcrest View

Now that your smartphone or tablet has been connected to your device, open the application and the Live View screen will be shown.

You can double check and preview the device you have connected to your phone by accessing the device list through the button in the top right hand corner. Select your device through the device list and click Start Live View.

Your device will be displayed on the Live View home screen, adding the reassurance your device is operating efficiently and connected to your phone through the network.

Once your microSD card is inserted into the device, motion detection events will begin recording from the device, right out of the box! The device has default settings to record motion detection events scheduled 24/7. You can view these recorded events from Amcrest View by opening up the menu in the top left hand corner and selecting Playback.

Once the Playback tab opens, a blank screen with four channel options will appear. Tap on any of the four channel’s plus buttons on the center of any square and you can select a camera for playback.

Once a device has been selected, it will begin playing back any recorded events that have been saved to the microSD card that had been inserted into the back of the device. You can slide the time stamp slider to scrub through any of the recorded footage, double tapping on the device selected will open the device into full screen, or you can use the buttons located at the bottom of the screen for advanced playback features.

You can also make adjustments to that schedule through your smartphone easily from within the application. To start editing the schedule using the menu in the top left hand corner and selecting Configuration Center.

The Configuration Center tab will open up with a list of advanced features in which you can make adjustments to the followed specified devices from your device list.

On the Configuration Center screen, tap Motion Detection.

The Device List screen will have appeared. Now select the device you wish to adjust from the Device List.

This will open up the Motion Detection screen, select the Advanced Config slider to open the options available for adjustment.

From here you will select Schedule to make adjustments to the schedule that’s already defaulted.

The Schedule screen will be displayed next showing you the current schedule.

Select the pencil and paper icon in the upper right hand corner to make any adjustments to the schedule.

From here you may select the day of the week under Date, specifying each day of the week and assigning time periods for each day manually. Simply tapping on the begin and end times in segments 1 through 6, you can change their intervals to a start and stop time you wish the camera to record motion detection events.

Select Date to change the day you wish to adjust or select Copy to make adjustments to a combined selection of days during the week. To speed up the process you can click Copy located underneath Date to duplicate any of the changes you made to the time intervals, selecting Whole Week to copy to all days of the week, or check the days you wish to copy to.

Once the days have been selected, you will notice Copy now has the following days you’ve selected. To continue, tap on 00:00 to adjust the start times of the days selected.

After selecting 00:00, the time slider or wheel will appear.

Select a time, as shown you’ll see 5:00am. Now tap anywhere out of the slider or wheel control to dismiss the slider or wheel adjuster.

Do the same for the end time, 23:59, to a time you wish the schedule to end.

Now you will notice the times for segment 1 have been modified.

Do not forget to click the save button in the top right hand corner to save any adjustments you have made to the schedule.

Once saved you will then see the adjustments made to the Period on the Period screen and schedule presentation.

Your schedule has been created for your camera to record motion detection events during the times you’ve selected. Adjustments will be put into effect immediately upon saving any Period changes. You may also jump back to the menu and playback any of the recorded events during the times you’ve selected as earlier stated in this guide!

How To Setup Push Notifications

Please open the Amcrest View Pro app open and ensure your camera is added to the Device Manager.

Step 1: Tap the top left icon to open the menu and select the “Push Notifications” option located in the menu.

Step 2: In the push notifications menu, tap the “Configuration” tab.

Step 3: Select the device you want to receive push notifications from. If push notifications are not enabled on your device, you will notice a “disabled” message in this field.

Step 4: To enable push notifications, toggle the switch next to your device to the on position.

A list of options will be shown:

- Push Type: This is what will open when you tap on the push notifications you receive, pushing the live view, video or image from the event.
- Motion Detect: Select if you want to receive notifications from motion being detected.
- Cam Mask: Select if you want to receive notifications that the camera has been covered or view has been blocked.
- Face Detection: Not currently available.
- Local Alarm: Select if you want to be notified that a local alarm has been triggered. (This referring to the I/O alarm ports on the back of the device.)
- HDD Alarm: Select if you want to receive notifications that no disk is detected, there is low space on the disk, or the disk has an error. (In this case the SD Card that’s inserted within the camera.)

Note: Only Push Type and Motion Detect are available in the app at the moment.

Step 5: Next, we will need to enable “Push Type”. Please tap the Push type option and select which type of push notification you would like to receive.

Step 6: If you have not done so already, the next step will be to setup motion detection for your device. Please tap “Motion Detection” in the previous screen and tap your device to enable motion detection. Once configured, there should be a check mark signifying the option is enabled. Press the back arrow to return to the previous menu.

Step 7: You will notice the push type and motion detect options now have values. Please tap the “Save” icon in the upper right hand corner to save and apply your push notification options to your camera.

Congratulations! You have now successfully established push notifications for your device!

How To Solve The DVR Rebooting Problem？

If the DVR / NVR is rebooting repeatedly, the issue may be caused by insufficient power or a hard disk drive (HDD) error.

1. replace a power adapter with a higher power

2.remove the power cable and data cable of the hard drive

3. power-on test, to rule out the problem of power adapter and hard disk error

4. Restart after running for a period of time, check whether the main chip heat sink on the DVR motherboard is in good contact

5. If the problem cannot be solved, please send the log and version information of the DVR

DVR/NVR Can’t find the HDD

If the DVR/NVR can’t find the HDD . the reason maybe as below.
1. DVR/NVR not support connect& disconnect HDD when the power on . You must to power off , connect the HDD . Then Power ON
2. Check if the HDD already power on . if the SATA cable connect correct .
Way : When power on . put hand on to the HDD to test it the HDD working(vibrate), if no vibrate . means the HDD no power in .
Pls change the 1 cable to test it .
Also change the SATA Cable to test it .

3. To check if the Power Adapter working or enough .
if can works in 1TB . can’t working 2TB or 3TB . change to 5A Power to test it .

4. Check if the HDD Broken or not .

5. Usually the DVR support WD (Westdigital brand) If use the other brand . It maybe not compatibility well

6. Default the DVR and upgrade it in new FW.
