How to record audio on a Uniview NVR

Record audio on a Uniview NVR by following each step below

NOTE

-This audio setting has only been added on select models with newer (2022+) firmware installed. -This guide assumes you have already enabled audio on the IP cameras with a microphone.

1. After logging into the web interface of the NVR go to Setup->Camera->Schedule.

2. Select the camera you want to enable audio recording on by clicking the drop down.

4. Change the Audio Storage option to On.

3. Click Save.

Creating New Users

Adding users to your UNV NVR allows you to customize exactly what people are able to see when operating your device, which can help protect your settings and the security of your device.

This tutorial assumes you have already completed the basic set up for your UNV NVR

Accessing and Configuring a New User

Sign into your UNV NVR. To do this, start at the Live View screen of your NVR.
Right Click Anywhere on Live View > Main Menu > Draw Pattern or Enter Password
You will be taken to the main menu. Click on “System” and then navigate to the “User” menu. At the bottom of the screen, you will see a button labeled “Add”. Click there.

You will see a pop up menu with everything you need to configure your new user. From top to bottom:

Username: This is the username for the user you are creating. It can be whatever you’d like.
User Type: This controls the general configuration for the user you are creating. You will notice that you cannot have more than one admin account.
1. Operator: This is a user type that has permission to use the NVR configuration menu. Use this account type if you want your user to be able to change and configure your NVR through it’s main menu. Please Note: You can customize exactly what permissions this user gets, but by default, the Operator type is used for tech support and configuration.
2. Guest: This is a user type that has permission to ONLY view Live View and Playback on your NVR. You can customize exactly what cameras they can view. This is the recommended user for anyone that is only allowed to Live View and Playback your cameras.
Password: This is the password that the new user will use to sign into the NVR. It must be considered a “STRONG” password. Once you have decided upon a strong password, you must retype it in the Confirm Password section.
Pattern: As with the admin account, your user account can have it’s own distinct lock pattern. This is where you can draw that pattern. Please note that the pattern MUST be distinct from other users, or there will be a conflict.
Permissions: This menu allows you to configure permissions for your new user account.
- 1. Basic Permissions:
    1. Configure: This allows the use of the main menu to configure the settings of the NVR. Only give this option to trusted users.
    2. Upgrade: This allows the user to update the firmware on the cameras and recorder. Only give this option to trusted users.
    3. View and Export…: This allows the user to view and export logs and configuration files. Only give this option to trusted users.
    4. Restart: This allows the user to restart the NVR. Only give this option to trusted users.
  2. Camera Permissions:
    1. Live View: This allows the user to view the Live View on certain cameras. You can choose either all cameras or specific cameras by selection the camera numbers on the right-hand side. Unselecting a camera will turn that camera into a blank square when this user is logged in.
    2. PTZ Control: This allows the user to move and zoom cameras that have the ability to do so. Only give this option to trusted users, as they will be able to adjust the position on motorized cameras.
    3. Playback: This allows the user to view Playback on certain cameras. ou can choose either all cameras or specific cameras by selection the camera numbers on the right-hand side. Unselecting a camera will force the error “You Do Not Have Permission” if the user tries to view playback.
    4. Manual Recording on from the NVR: This allows the user to override the recording schedule for your cameras and manually decide when a camera should record. Only give this option to trusted users.

Once you have completed the permissions for your new user, click the “OK” button on the bottom right-hand side. This will take you back to the User screen.

Setting Up Motion Recording Via Web Interface

Motion detection recording allows you to only record footage when there is activity in any of the areas that you are monitoring, making it easier to search for events recorded and also allowing your system to conserve disk space on your NVR’s hard drive.

Step 1. Navigating To The Motion Settings

Open the recorder web login by typing the recorders local IP address / external IP / DDNS into the Internet Explorer web browser.
Click “Download” at the top of the page to install the web plugin. Make sure you close your browser during the installation.
Reopen the recorders login page and login using your user name and password (Default is Username: admin Password: 123456)
Once you are logged in navigate to the “Settings” button at the top of the screen
. Once in the “Settings” menu on the left hand side navigate to “Camera > Motion”
All of your motions settings will be found in this menu. The first setting that will need to be configured is the “Area”. To set up the area for detection first click on “Start Drawing”, next on the image provided to the left start in the corner and drag and drop a red grid over the whole image.
Next make sure that the “Motion” setting is check to the “On” Position.
Every situation is different where the camera will be installed. Typically setting the sensitivity to 50 is recommended, then adjusting from there if needed. Either lowering if too many false triggers occur, or raising it if little to no triggers occur
Setting the Arming Schedule will be the next tab over.(time when actions will be
triggered). We usually recommend keeping this at 24/7, but every situation is different!
Next setting to set up is going to be the “Trigger Actions”. The trigger actions are set up to the camera what to do when motion is detected. The main setting that you want to make sure you have set is the “Trigger Recording”. When setting the trigger reordering setting you want to check on the channel that you are currently configuring, for example if you are configuring motion for camera one in the trigger recorder menu “D1” would be checked on while all the other are unchecked and if you were configuring channel 5 under trigger recorder “D5” would be checked on while all the other were unchecked.

Alarm Output – When an event is triggered, the NVR can enable a built in alarm output for a siren, light, etc.
Recording – When Event is triggered for the particular cam, the NVR will start recording on cams that are checked
Snapshot – When Event is triggered on the particular camera, the NVR will take a snapshot of any cams that are checked
Goto Preset – When Event is triggered, the NVR can set a PTZ cam to a specific preset

Step 2. Setting Up The Schedule

Next thing to set up will be the Schedule on the recorder. To access these setting navigate to “Settings > Camera > Schedule”
Pre-Record is for how much data will be saved from before the motion started. Post-Recorder is how long the camera will keep recording even after it has stopped detecting motion.
Make sure that “Recording Schedule” is check to the “On” position.
First thing you want to think about is if you want the cameras to record all of the time or on motion in this tutorial we are setting up all camera on motion. If you want the camera to record all of the time by default you can leave the schedule at the all blue color.
To change the Schedule to motion you can click the “Motion” button on the right and then drag and drop the green color over each day and hour starting in the corner.
Other option for setting up the Schedule is you can click on the “Edit” button just above the upper left corner. This will allow you to manual type in each periods start and end times how you want the recorder to record during that time.
You can then use the “Copy to” drop down to copy the schedule to all cameras or you can manual set up each camera by changing the Camera ID at the top.

How to set up Gmail email alerts on a Uniview NVR

This guide will explain each step to set up email alerts on a Uniview NVR using a Gmail account

Note

If you would like to receive E-mail alerts whenever an event has occurred, we recommend using a Gmail account. It’s free, secure, and easy to configure. If you don’t already have a Gmail account you can create one here.

First, you’ll need to make sure that your Gmail account is configured to allow “less secure apps” to send E-mail to your account from the NVR.

1. Log into Gmail with your user name and password, then click on your account icon in the top right. Our account has been customized with the Nelly’s “N”. Yours might have a default user icon.

2. Then click on the “My Account” button:

3. Then click on “Sign-in & Security” on the left:

4. 2-Step Verification: Turn on 2 Step Verification if it’s not enabled, otherwise the setting you need to enable will not be displayed.

5. Now there should be an option for “App passwords” underneath 2-Step Verification. Select this option, Select App and choose “custom” and name it NVR/DVR and it will generate an app password that you will need to save for later.

6. Now that 2-step verification and app passwords are enabled the next step is to log into your NVR by opening a web browser and typing in the IP address. Alternately, if you have the EZTools software you can click the “e” icon on the right to open the NVR in a web browser.

7. Once you’re logged in to the NVRs web interface go to Setup->Network->Email. (Click to view full size)

8. First turn the Server Authentication to On, this is required by Gmail. Next insert each field as explained below:

Username: Full Gmail email address (ex. nellyssecurity@gmail.com)

Password: Generated App Password

SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com

SMTP Port: 587 – Check the TLS/SSL box

Snapshot Interval: Check the box to attach a snapshot to the email when an event has occurred

Sender: NVR

Sender’s Address: Full Gmail email address

Select Recipient: Here you can choose to send to multiple people

Recipient: The name of the person receiving the email alerts

Recipient Address: Full Gmail email address of the person that will receive the email alerts

Schedule: Whenever you want the emails to send. By default they are set to send all day every day if they are triggered.

9. Once all the information is in click Save. Next click the Test button next to “Recipient Address” to send a test email to the specified email address.

10. Lastly, you will need to check the “Send Email” box for the event you want to trigger the alerts. (Motion Detection, Cross Line Detection, etc)

If you want to set up email alerts for regular motion detection go to Camera->Motion. The check box can be found under the Trigger Actions tab.

How To Manually Upgrade a UNV NVR Via Web Interface

If your NVR is accessible on the local area network using the web interface, you may update the
firmware using a file that has been downloaded and stored locally.

Within the Setup section of the web interface, go to the Maintenance section and select the Local Upgrade entry. On the screen that comes up, click on the Browse button next to the Upgrade text entry field and browse to the location on the local PC where the firmware file is stored and click on it. Once the file is properly entered, press the Upgrade button and the unit will perform the upgrade procedure including a reboot which will terminate your connection.

Please Note

If you download a firmware off the Nelly’s website, you must export the Zip Folder out of the initial Zip Folder that is downloaded.

Adding Blank UNV Camera To UNV Retail NVR via Plug n Play

In scenarios where a Blank UNV camera is paired with a UNV Retail NVR, these will be plug n play. However, you may not get the full functionality of the Blank UNV Camera right away.

In this guide, we will show you the steps needed to allow the full functionality of the Blank UNV Camera.

Connecting The Camera

Since the Blank UNV cameras are plug n play with UNV Retail NVRs, the camera will come online if it is connected directly to the integrated POE switch of the NVR.

Camera Configuration via NVR

One thing you may notice however, the camera will show added with the ONVIF protocol. This can be very limiting as ONVIF only guarantees a live view and 24/7 recording.

If you go into the Smart Event section of the NVR while the camera is added via ONVIF, you will notice that none are available:

To accommodate for this, Go to Setup -> Camera -> Cameras. Checkmark the Camera, select Modify, change the Add Mode to IP Address, then change the Protocol to Uniview. Save.

Now that the camera is talking via the Uniview protocol, the Smart Events are now available!

Please Note

Not all UNV cameras support Smart Events, be sure to verify what events the camera supports beforehand! If you are unsure what events a camera may support, feel free to contact our Support or check the camera’s spec sheet.

Also Note

This guide will work along with UNV Retail Cameras and UNV Blank NVRs. Just the protocol will be changed to Private instead of Uniview on the Blank NVR.

How to Access Device from Web 2M DVRs

When devices are connected to the network, they can also be accessible from a computer. The first thing you need to make sure of is that the computer you are using and the DVR/NVR are connected to the same network (network is coming from the same router for both devices). You will first need to obtain the IP address of the DVR/NVR from Menu → System → Network → IPv4 address.

After noting the IP address of your device, open Internet Explorer and in the address search bar type in the DVR/NVR IP address. If the NVR and the computer are on the same network then it will pull up the login page of the DVR/NVR. The credentials will be the same as when you log into the local interface of your device.

How to Find the Serial Number Using 2M Tool

2M Tool is used to find the IP address of your 2M NVR, DVR, or IP camera, as well as limited management of its settings. You only need to make sure that the computer you are using 2M Tool on is connected to the same network as the device that you are trying to search for.

Why do we need the serial number? The serial number is mainly used in case of a customer needing a password reset on their device.

How do we find the serial number? There are a few ways to find the number:

sticker on the device
sticker on the box that the device came in
web page client of the device
using 2M Tool

In the case that you forget the password for you device in which you will not be able to access the web page, and the camera is too high up to reach to find the sticker, you can use 2M Tool to find the serial number. 2M Tool does not automatically show the number; you must force it to show. First, you will need to click on the Settings icon to show the options:

Then another window will open where you can select Serial Number to show.

Once you hit OK, the serial number will then appear.

How to Install Plugin for Internet Explorer

This article features screenshots from our 2MN-8XXX series NVR and our 2MT-4XXX series DVR, but the same principle will apply to any other recorder. This is because each recorder requires a plugin in order to view the cameras on the web page. You will have to manually install the plugin, but it is usually always provided as a link for easy access.

First, you must make sure that you are using Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer is the only browser that can support these plugins. It is possible for some devices to be viewed on Google Chrome or even Firefox, but then other functions are very limited so it is highly not recommended to use those browsers. Once Internet Explorer is open, and you navigate to the device’s web page by entering the IP address, there should be a link shown on the page. You can see on the picture below that the link is located on the top of the page.

When you click on the link, a pop-up will appear on the bottom of the page that will let you choose whether to Run the program or Save the program onto your computer. Note: Running the program will not save it. If you wish to save the program, please select Save. Once it has finished downloading, then you can run the program from the file location.

If you choose to Run the program, an error message will appear noting that the publisher couldn’t be verified. This is no issue; the plugin will not cause any harm to your computer. Hit Run, and run the installation. Some installations will require you to close out of Internet Explorer in order to complete the setup.

Once the setup is complete, refresh the page, and another message will pop-up on the bottom that asks you to Allow the add-on to run. Select Allow, and log into the page. Now you should be able to view your cameras on the web page.

How to Set Up 2M Guard

2M Guard is the phone app that we use for our NVR’s to view cameras from our phones offsite.

This app only works for models: 2MT-4004, 2MT-4008, 2MT-4088, 2MT-4016, 2MN-8004-P4, 2MN-8008-P8, 2MN-8116-P16, 2MN-8232-P16 and our IP cameras.

Find the Register Code and/or QR Code for your DVR/NVR

on NVR menu: Menu → System → Network → P2P OR Menu → Network → P2P
on web menu: Setup → Network → P2P

2. Two ways to add a device onto the app:

Star4Live
directly on the app

Method 1: Adding Device Through Star4Live

Go to https://www.star4live.com/login
Click on Login if you already have an existing account or Sign Up if you do not

Once you have logged in, click on Add and another window will pop up prompting for a Device Name and Register Code. Once all of the required information has been filled out, hit OK and your device should show up under My Cloud Devices.

Once you have successfully added the device on Star4Live, open the app and log into your account using the same credentials that you created/used on star4live.com
Go to Live View and tap the icon in the upper right corner to select a device
Select the device you would like to view
Start live view

Method 2: Adding Device Directly on the App

When you first download the app it will prompt you to either Sign Up or Login
Tap on Login if you already have an existing account or Sign Up if you do not

Open up the app menu and go to Devices. This section shows all of the devices that have been added onto your account. To add another one, tap on Add at the top of the screen.

You can choose to add the device by scanning the QR code or by manually inputting the Register Code. To move forward with either of these options, you will need to tap on Scan

A screen will appear for you to scan a QR code. If you choose to scan this is where you will do it, but if you choose to manually enter the Register Code, tap on the edit icon on the bottom.

Once all of the correct information has been filled out, hit the Save icon in the upper right corner.
In order to see the cameras, open the app menu and tap on Live View
At first, it will look blank. This is because we need to add the cameras to the windows. Tap on the Add icon in the upper right corner

A list of your devices will appear. Select the one that you want to view and hit Start Live View on the bottom

Now you can view your cameras on the go!

How to Set Up 2M Station

When first running the program, it will prompt you for a username and password which will be admin/123456 by default. It is recommended that you change the password after installation.

Once you are logged in it will show the menu. Click on Device Management to add any devices. On the left side make sure that Encoding Device is selected. It will show at the bottom of the screen any devices that are online as long as the computer is on the same network as the devices.

There are two methods to add an online device. The first method is fairly simple. All you need to do is check the box for the NVR that shows under Online Device and then click Add. The second method to adding an online device is to manually add it. First click on Add next to Managed Device, and it will open another window where you can input the details of your device. It will ask for:

Device Name → can be any name for your device
IP/Domain → local or public IP address of NVR
Port → port number of NVR
Username → username of NVR
Password → password of NVR

After putting in all of the correct information of your device, click on Add and then the device should come online.

Another method to add a device is by using the P2P method which allows for a user to view their cameras offsite from any location. The device will be added as a Cloud Device instead of an Encoding Device.

It will show Login and Register buttons that will link to your Star4Live account which will show the devices you have previously added. After logging in, it will take a minute or two for the devices to show online. At first, it will say Offline (Connecting…), but eventually the status will show Online.

After successfully adding all of your devices, go back to the menu and click on Live View to view your cameras. A list of online devices will show on the left side of the window. Click and drag the device into the window view in order to load all of the video. If not all of the cameras are wanted in view, you can click on the plus sign next to your device and it will show a list of cameras connected to the NVR. You can click and drag specific cameras onto the live view screen.

How to Set Up Email Notifications Using Gmail

Gmail will have automatic security settings that need to be disabled before configuring email settings in the NVR. You will need a computer in order to edit these settings. First, log on to your Gmail account and then click on the square icon in the upper right corner of the page. Click on Account.

Security → Scroll to the bottom until you find “Less secure app access” → “Allow less secure apps: ON”

Now that Gmail has been set to allow app access, we can move on to the NVR settings. These can either be configured through the web page or through the NVR itself.

Through the DVR/NVR: Main Menu → Network → Basic → Email

Through the webpage: Setup → Network → Email

Server Authentication: On
Username: email that you will be sending from (can be a throwaway email)
Password: password of email account
SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
SMTP port: 465
Enable TLS/SSL
Can choose to attach image or not
Sender: sender name
Sender’s address: email address (same as username)
Recipient: any recipient name

Test email

After you finish entering all of the settings and the test is successful go to Camera → Motion → Select Camera → Trigger Actions → Send Email

How to Share a Device

Each NVR can only be added by one account at a time, so if one wants to add a device onto multiple accounts they would need to share the device with one account being the “main” account. This means that one person will have the device added to their account and that person will share the device with other people. Each person still must have their own Star4Live account.

How to share the device is simple. First, you will need to log onto the main Star4Live account which the NVR has been added to. It can be done either through the computer or your personal phone.

Sharing from Computer: after logging into the account your list of added devices will appear. Click Share on the row for the device you are wanting to share.

Then a menu will appear to enter the account you want to share to, the Valid Till date, User Rights, and any Description you want to give.

Share To → can either be the username or the email of the Star4Live account you are sharing to
Valid Until → can go up to X amount of years, months, or just a few days
Permission → can choose any user rights that have already been configured on the NVR (admin, etc.)
Remarks → can give a short description to the recipient about the device that is being shared

Once all of the information has been correctly filled out, click Confirm to successfully share.

Sharing from 2M Guard Phone App: after logging into your Star4Live account on the 2M Guard app, go to your Devices and then tap on the device that you want to share. A small menu will appear. Then tap Share on the bottom of the screen.

The next window will show the device and a list of the cameras that are connected and online. You can choose specific cameras, or select the device so that the entirety of its cameras are selected for sharing.

Once your device(s) has been selected, the Share menu will finally appear. The app will ask for the same information as the computer does, but it will not give a space to fill out a description. Fill out the Share To and the Valid Period the same as you would do on the desktop instructions written above. The only other difference between the Star4Live browser and the app is the sharing Type: you will be able to choose between Role or Function.

Role: can choose a specific user or role to share to another user
Function: can choose specific functions to share to another user with Live View being automatically selected by default

NOTE: Only admin rights will allow another user to access the device through the web browser or through 2M Station because they both allow a user to make changes to the device. If you do not wish for another user to be able to make any kind of changes (viewing only), please choose the By Function type.

Once one of these methods have been completed to share the device, the recipient only needs to log into their Star4Live account and the shared NVR should show automatically under their own device list.

How to Sign Up for Star4Live Account

Star4Live is the server that we use to view NVR and camera footage over the web. Each customer needs to have an account to view and manage their devices.

This is only valid for models: 2MT-4004, 2MT-2008, 2MT-4088, 2MT-4016, 2MN-8004-P4, 2MN-8008-P8, 2MN-8116-P16, 2MN-8232-P16 and our IP cameras.

Once all the information has been correctly filled out, click Register and your account will be ready to use.

How to Upgrade the Firmware

Every now and again, we will release a new firmware update that can either hold new features for your unit, bug fixes, or a bit of both. We have made it simple to request the newest firmware so that there is no need to wait for a file to be sent. First, you will need to make sure that your device is connected to the internet so that the NVR will be able to communicate with our servers.

Method 1: From the NVR Interface

Then you will go into the Main Menu and click on Maintain. There will be a section for Upgrade.

There are two options for upgrading:

Local Upgrade: this option is only good if you already have the firmware file loaded onto either a USB to plug directly into the device or if you already have the firmware file in a location on the computer which you are using to upgrade the device
Cloud Upgrade: this option is good if you do not already have the file on hand. It will automatically read the current version and detect if there is a newer version available

You will most likely want to choose the Cloud Upgrade option unless you have received the firmware file from Tech Support beforehand. Click Cloud Upgrade, and wait for the device to finish its search. It will either notify you that the current version is already the latest, or it will show a newer version, and the Upgrade button will highlight at the bottom of the screen.

The upgrade time will vary between 1-5 minutes, sometimes lasting longer depending on the size of the update. Once the update has finished, the device will automatically restart. It will be ready to use again once it has fully finished the reboot.

Note: Please make sure that the device does not disconnect from the network or from power because it can cause a risk in damaging the unit if there is a failed update.

Method 2: From the Web Interface

The NVR can be updated from its web page if there is no monitor connected to the unit, or if it cannot be physically accessed. From the web page, you will navigate to Setup → Maintenance → Maintenance → Cloud Upgrade → Detect or Check for Update. The process is the same as it is from the unit itself, and the same rules will apply.

How to Use Star4Live

Star4Live is the server that we use to view NVR and camera footage over the web. Each customer needs to have an account to view and manage their devices. You must use Internet Explorer in order to access all of the functions of Star4Live.

This is only valid for models: 2MT-4004, 2MT-4008, 2MT-4088, 2MT-4016, 2MN-8004-P4, 2MN-8008-P8, 2MN-8116-P16, 2MN-8232-P16 and our IP cameras.

When you log into Star4Live, the first page that shows is the Device Management tab which will show My Cloud Devices. Here is where you can see the devices that have been added to your account, or any devices that have been shared with you under Devices Shared To Me

In order to access a device’s web page, click on the Access icon

If the P2P plugin has been installed, the NVR web page will display automatically when you access your device. If not, you will get an error that your device “Cannot be reached.”
Once the web page has finished loading up, you will need to install another plugin to view the cameras’ live feed.
After it has been installed there will be a pop-up on the bottom of the screen that will ask permission to allow the plugin to run. You will need to allow this.

Overview

When an NVR password is lost or forgotten, configuration and playback become locked off from view. This tutorial will guide you through resetting your UNV password in a variety of ways, making it easy and convenient to recover access to your device without the need for assistance.

Prerequisites

Part 1: Local Password Reset (NVR Direct/EZView)

Step 1

Starting at the Live View screen, follow the below steps to access the login screen from the NVR directly:

Right Click Anywhere on Live View > Menu

Step 1.1

If you have a pattern lock, click “Forgot Pattern” to get to the login screen. Once at the login screen, click “Forgot Password”.

Step 2

You may be asked to type in an email in order to continue. At this point, you must type in an email. Please note that you have to be able to access this email in order to reset your password, so please make sure it is an email you can log into. Additionally, please verify that you have spelled the email correctly. If you misspell the email, you cannot go back to change it and will not be able to reset your password in this manner.

After typing your email into the email field, click NEXT or OK. You will be greeted with a screen that has your serial number, email address and a QR code for you to scan.

Step 3

From here, open up your EZView application. If you have not already created an account on EZView, do so now. CLICK HERE for a tutorial on EZView account creation.

Step 3.1

At the Live View screen of the EZView mobile application, click on the three lines on the top left-hand side of your screen.

Step 3.2

This will bring up the main menu of the application. Once this menu is open, click “Local Config”.

Step 3.3

You will be greeted with the local configuration menu. At the very bottom of the menu, click “Forgot Device Password”.

Step 4

This will open up your phone’s camera. You may see a popup window asking you for permission to use your phone’s camera. You must allow this permission to continue. Additionally, a box will appear with instructions on where to scan on your device. You can safely close this box, assuming you have followed the steps above.

Step 4.1

Using the box on your phone’s camera, scan the QR code on your NVR’s menu.

Please note: The white box in the middle of the QR code is only there to prevent successful scanning for the purposes of the screenshot. Your QR code will not have this white box.

Step 4.2

Once the QR code scans successfully, you will be taken to a screen confirming your email. Click “Ok” to have the code sent to your email.

Step 5

Check your email to find the security code. Please allow for up to 15 minutes for the email to be sent to you. Additionally, check your Spam/Junk folder to verify that your code did not send to those folders. Once you have your code, return to your NVR’s forgot password screen.

Step 6

You will see a field next to the words “Security Code”. Type your security code into that field.

Step 7

You will be brought to a screen asking you to change your password.

If there is a field for “Security Code”, please reenter the security code into this field.

New Password: This is where you will type in your new password. Please note that your password must be considered a “STRONG” password to work. A strong password is typically at least eight characters long with a number and special character (!, @, #, $, etc)

Confirm Password: This is where you will retype in your new password in order to confirm it. Please note that your passwords must match in both the New Password and Confirm Password field in order to save correctly.

Part 2: Local Password Reset (NVR Web GUI/EZView)

Please Note: This section of the tutorial assumes you have the local IP address of your UNV NVR. If you do not know the local IP address, please CLICK HERE for a tutorial on finding the local IP address of your NVR.

Step 1

After typing the local IP Address into the URL bar of your web browser, you will be brought to the login splash screen of the NVR. On the right side of the Password field, you will see a blue hyperlink that says “Forgot Password”. Click there.

Step 2

You will be required to have an email set in the NVR to continue. If you have not done so already, please reference Step 2 of Part 1 of this tutorial. Once you have entered an email and click “Forgot Password”, you will be greeted with a Retrieve Password pop up menu.

Step 3

Please reference Steps 3 through 5 of Part 1 of this tutorial for acquiring the security code for your UNV NVR. Please note that, instead of scanning the QR code directly on the NVR itself, you may scan the QR code on the above “Retrieve Password” screen instead. Additionally, once you have acquired the security code for your UNV NVR, you may type it into the Security Code field under the QR code on your web GUI.

Step 4

You will be brought to a screen asking you to change your password.

If there is a field for “Security Code”, please reenter the security code into this field.

Part 3: Remote Password Reset (EZCloud)

Please Note: This tutorial assumes you have already created an EZCloud/EZView account and have added your UNV NVR to your account. If you have not done so already, please CLICK HERE for a tutorial on creating an EZCloud/EZView account and registering your device to your account.

Step 1

Open either Internet Explorer or Google Chrome on your computer. In the URL bar, type:

http://en.ezcloud.uniview.com

This will bring you to the EZCloud login page. You will need to log into your EZCloud/EZView account to proceed. Type in your username/email and password for your account and click “login”.

Step 2

After clicking “Login”, you will be brought to your Device page.

Step 2.1

If the device is registered directly to your account, you will see the name of the device in the “My Cloud Devices” menu, which appears first by default. If this is the case, skip to Step 3.

Step 2.2

If the device is registered to another account and has been shared to you, you will see the name of the device in the “Devices Shared to Me” tab of your menu. Click there to see your device listed in the menu.

Step 3

You will see your device in the menu. It will have the External IP Address of the device, the Device Name, model and organization, as well as the last time it was accessed online, the status and an operation menu.

Step 3.1

In the “Operation Menu”, you will see 5 icons. For the purposes of this tutorial, please click the icon that looks like a key. This is the “Retrieve Password” icon.

Step 4

You will be brought to a Retrieve Password screen. On it, you will see your Device Name and Registration Code, which cannot be changed. Additionally, you will see a field for Device Date, your email (which cannot be changed) and a Verification Code.

Step 4.1

First, select the date that your NVR is set to. Typically, this is the same date as real time.

Step 4.2

Click “Acquire” next to the email field. This will begin the process of sending off a verification code to your email address. Please note that this email could take up to 15 minutes to arrive and may send to your Spam/Junk mail folder. Please check these folders if you have not received your email after 15 minutes.

Step 4.3

Once you receive your verification code, type it into the Verification Code field and click “Generate Password”. This will generate a temporary password for your device. Please copy this password to your clipboard or write the password down. Please note that the password IS CASE SENSITIVE, meaning you must enter the password just like you see it, with any capital letters capitalized.

Step 4.4

Once you have copied your temporary code, click the blue hyperlink on the bottom of the menu, next to the words “Log in now:”

Step 5

You will automatically logged into the NVR, as you do not need a password to access the device over the cloud. Once the Live View page loads, click “Setup” on the top of the screen.

Step 6

You will be brought to the NVR’s setup menu. For the purposes of this tutorial, please navigate to the ‘user” tab on the left-hand side of the screen.

Step 6.1

Click the “User” sub menu to open the User menu.

Step 6.2

Left click the ‘admin’ account to highlight the admin account. (It will turn blue)

Step 6.3

Click the “Modify button above the account list. This will bring you to the modification screen to update your password.

Step 7

You will have several empty fields in the Modification screen.

Step 7.1

Old Password: Type the Temporary Password into this field. It will act as your old password for the purposes of updating your pasword.

Step 7.2

Password: Type your new password into this field. Please note that your password must be considered STRONG to continue. Typically, a strong password is at least eight characters with a capital letter, a number and a special character.

Step 7.3

Confirm: Re type your new password into the field to confirm it. Please note that your passwords must match in both the New Password and Confirm Password field in order to save correctly.

Step 7.4

Click the “Save” button at the bottom left-hand side of the menu. This will verify and save your new password.

How to View Recorder Logs

There will be 3 parts to this guide which include:

Part 1: WEB GUI

Login to the web interface of your device by using the local IP address while on the same local network. Enter your username + password.

Click on “Setup” along the top bar. Next locate “Network” from the tabs on the left and then click “P2P” from the drop down menu. Make sure that P2P is turned ON. You will notice a QR code, stay on this page while you set up the app.

Part 2: ENS View setup

First you will need to download “ENS View” from the APP Store (IOS) or Google Play Store (Android). Here is what the ICON looks like.

When you open ENS View for the first time, you will be prompted to login or create an account. If you wish to access the cloud features, you will need to sign up for an account.

If you do not wish to use the cloud you can simply select “Try now” but you will need to enable “Add Without Signup” in the P2P settings of the web interface.

When you login you will be on the live view page but you will need to navigate to the devices page by tapping on the three lines at the top left and then tapping on “Devices”

Now we can add the device(s) by tapping on “ADD” and then “SCAN”. You can scan the QR from the web GUI in Part 1.

You can change the device name here as well as a few other settings. Be sure to tap the save icon at the top right. You will be brought back to the devices page where you can add another device or just tap the device you added and select “Live View” from the pop up to start viewing your cameras.

Part 3: Star4live (Cloud)

Now that P2P is enabled and an account has been created in ENS View, you may now go to https://www.star4live.com/ and use that same email and password to log in.

You will be able to see and log in to all of your online devices added by your ENS View APP.

Setup DDNS (easterndns / 123ddns)

Answer

We will be using 123ddns.com or easterndns.com to configure DDNS on the Emerald NVR.

Enter the website in your address bar and create an account.

You will receive an email with a verification code. Verify the information and click submit.

Once account verification is complete, click on CREATE NEW DOMAIN to create your DDNS service.

Choose your DNS host name. The IP address will automatically fill with your public IP address.

When complete, your dashboard will show your new Domain name.

Next, login to your NVR and go to Setup > DDNS and turn On the DDNS service.

Select DynDNS and input the Server Address. Fill in either 123ddns.com or easterndns.com depending on the account you created. For domain name, you will

type in the domain name you created followed by whichever service you used.

Username and Password will be your login to 123ddns or easterndns.

Setup MyDDNS

Emerald provides customers with an option to use Star4Live for Dynamic DNS. There are 2 steps to set up the service.

Enable P2P and connect Star4Live account
Configure MyDDNS service

Enable P2P and Create/Connect Star4Live

In your NVR, go to Setup > P2P and turn on P2P. You will receive a Register Code which we will need for the Star4Live Account.

Next, go to https://www.star4live.com/login and Sign Up for an account.

In your dashboard, click Add to connect your NVR.

Name your Device and fill in the Register Code from your NVR. Once finished, click on OK to confirm.

Your Star4Live dashboard will show your newly added NVR with IP, Device, and Model.

Configuring MyDDNS on your Emerald NVR

Go to your NVR DDNS settings. You can find this in Setup > DDNS

Turn On DDNS and in DDNS Type, select MyDDNS.

Fill in your Device Name and click Test to check if the domain name you chose is available. If available, click on Save. Device Address will update to www.star4live.com/yourDomainName

Copy the web address and open a new tab. Paste in the address bar. Your DDNS is set up.

Finding Recorder Information

Answer

To access the web client, please use a Windows based PC and use Internet Explorer as the web browser.

Access the recorder’s web interface by typing in the IP address on the address bar of Internet Explorer. The path should look like the following: “http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx” (Note: If the HTTP port has been changed from default, you will need to add the port number after the ip address by inserting a colon “:” in between the address and port number).

Install all requested web plugins that are prompted by Internet Explorer. Once installed, you may need to refresh, or restart the web browser. You may install the plugin by selecting “Run”. In some instances, you may need to close the web browser to complete the installation. After installation completes, please re-open Internet Explorer.

After you login, select the “Setup” option.

The Setup page will show the current model and firmware version of the system. This page should be sufficient enough information for any technician to help troubleshoot the system.

In the Basic Info page, you can find Model number, Serial NO, Firmware Version and change system language. You can provide all information from here to our tech support while troubleshooting.

How to Playback Video from ENS Station

Open ENS Station and you will see the playback option

2. Once in that menu, you can see the search time option and filter through the dates you would like to playback, also once dates are selected you can scrub through certain times as highlighted on the bottom

2.1 Highlighted in the red box are from left to right: Select layout, close all windows and take snapshots of all windows displayed

2.2. Here are the options to control playback, you can have it play normally or reverse by 1 frame at a time, the 1x bar is playback speed

2.3. On the right side we have recordings, when you have saved video you can select which recording you would like to access and below that we have the download function (for downloading recordings to pc) and full screen mode

2.4. Here is the window that pops up when you click on the download button, you can search through recordings by file or time

Recorder Add User

1. In the menu ,select the system tab.

2. Once in the system menu, select the user tab located on the left panel.

3. In the user Menu, select the add button located at the bottom.

4. In the pop up menu, type in user name and select user type. The options available are Operator and Guest. Next add password to the new user account. Below you have several options to grant permissions to the new account ( configure, upgrade, live view, ptz control , etc.) Click OK when done.

Recorder Password reset

Enter your nvr IP address, go into the login page.

Click Forgot Password

Use our phone APP ENS View, go Me > General > Forget Device Password. Scan QR code, you will receive a security code email. Enter security code then you able to set a new password.

If you forgot your registered email address. You can call our technicians, and provide your NVR S/N to ENS technicians, we will give you the Security code.

Configuring Audio and Two Way Talk

To access the web client, please use a Windows based PC and use Internet Explorer as the web browser.

In order to test if the 2-way audio function works properly, you need to turn on the audio stream. First go to the setup page.

On the Setup page, select Camera on the left hand side menu.

After selecting Camera, select the Encoding sub-menu.

And then go back to the Live View page, you will be able to use audio/2-way talk features. If a camera supports 2-way audio, you will see that option.

After you in the Smart page, you can see VCA config. You can (1) enable cross line detection and (2) go to cross line detection setup.(3) Select camera for Crossing line Detection.(4) Select Crossing line Detection analysis on Camera or NVR.

In Crossing Line Detection Setup. You can (1) set the Alarm Sound and Light. (2) Draw the Cross Line Detection Area. (3) Set up Snapshot Object type, Sensitivity and Priority.

Also you can select Arming schedule and Trigger actions to indicate when the line cross schedule is active, as well as the commands that it will trigger (record on separate channels, audible alarms, alarm out, email notifications, etc.)

Intrusion Detection Setup

After you in the Smart page, you can see VCA config. You can (1) enable Intrusion Detection.(2)Enter the Intrusion Detection setup.(3) Select camera for Intrusion Detection.(4) Select Intrusion Detection analysis on Camera or NVR.

In Crossing Line Detection Setup. You can (1) set the Alarm Sound and Light. (2) Draw the Intrusion Detection Area. (3) Set up Snapshot Object type, Sensitivity, Priority and Percentage. Percentage will be the amount of the drawn area that must be filled in order to trigger the intrusion

Finding Recorder Information

Log into the system by entering the username and password. Default credentials are admin for the username and 123456 for the password.

Right click the mouse and select Menu.

On the main menu, select Maintain.After selecting the Maintain page, it will take you directly to the System Information page. This page will have most of the information for a technician to help troubleshoot the system if necessary.

（3）you can also enable and disable motion detection on this page.
（4）You may change the arming schedule as well as the trigger actions on the respective tabs.

In the Camera page, you can (1) select CH you want to add a camera. (2) Modify information about the IP camera you want to add.(3)（4） Change the plug and play mode to IP address. （5）change the protocol depending on your camera brand. And then fill out all informations(IP address, port, username and password)

Another way you can add ip cameras by click the auto search.

In the auto search page, you can find all IP cameras under the same local network. Select the camera you want to add.

How to set up Star4Live DDNS
