What error message do you see on the screen?

We need to identify first the error message that your screen shows.

Here is an overview of the things we need to check:

 .

1. Camera to extension cable connection

For some of you who installed the cameras already and forgot to test the cameras first, that’s alright. You can skip this step for now. You just need to make sure that the 2 connectors of your camera are both connected firmly to the extension lead; otherwise, you might end up with a powered camera but no video connection or a powerless camera with a video connection. Check the image below, that’s how your camera needs to be connected to the extension cable.

Here is what it should look like after the connection.

2. Extension cable to power splitter

The extension will have 2 connectors on each end and you already used one end for the camera’s video and power connection. The other end of that cable needs to be connected to the power splitter especially if you have multiple cameras on your setup (disregard the splitter if you are dealing with an additional camera since it will come with its own power supply). The splitter will have 4 leads on one end and a single lead on the other. Pick one lead from those 4 and connect the power lead of the extension cable to it. See the image below on how it should be connected.

3. Power splitter to the power adapter

Grab the single lead from the splitter and connect it to the power adapter. Use the provided 12v power adapter from the kit. Then plug the power adapter into a working power point, wall outlet, or power board.

4. Extension cable to the DVR

Going back to the extension cable, we are left with one connector. That connector will be connected to the ports at the back of the DVR. These ports are normally labeled as Video In or Video Input. You need to push the BNC connectors and twist them to lock them firmly to the DVR. Check below on how to connect the BNC cable to one of the video connectors at the back of the DVR.

You are all set! Live feed from the cameras should now display on the TV/monitor. If in case it didn’t, you might want to check Video Loss Troubleshooting for DVRs for some advanced troubleshooting.

Hard drive warning: Unformat error / Status: Abnormal 

This applies to recorders that were pre-installed with internal hard drives (HDD) and worked before. This error or warning appears when the hard drive is no longer recording or can no longer be accessed but is still detected.

 .

A. The HDD LED is solid, indicating the hard drive is still detected but is not reading/writing.

B. The HDD status (Menu > Device > HDD) shows “Abnormal” or “Unformat error”.

C. The HDD Free/Total capacity shows 0GB.

 .

No hard drive or hard disk found 

This applies to recorders that were pre-installed with internal hard drives (HDD) and worked before. The following are signs that the hard drive is no longer detected in your DVR / NVR:

A. The HDD LED is off.

B. The HDD status (Menu > Device > HDD) is blank, meaning No. 1 is empty.

C. You may have experienced an outage or changed the power adapter.

A. & B. If you changed the hard drive recently

Bear in mind that only certain types of hard drives are compatible with CCTV security systems.

• We recommend using a surveillance-rated hard drive of the same size dimensions and storage capacity as your recorder’s hard drive, such as the Western Digital Purple, Seagate Skyhawk, or Toshiba Surveillance range of drives. If you wish to know the maximum capacity and size compatible with your DVR or NVR, you can request a Chat for “hard drive” and follow the prompts.

• Solid State Drives (SSD) for DVRs are NOT ideal for continuous recording, operation in high temperature setting, and large disk space. A DVR’s intention is reliability not speed. SSDs are very fast, but it will wear out eventually when writing happens frequently. Using an SSD is at your discretion.

• Desktop hard drives are not recommended as their low speed can cause playback skipping and errors. They are not optimized to support 24/7 read-and-write access.

A. & C. If you experienced an outage recently

The power adapter for your recorder was designed to protect the DVR or NVR in the event of a surge or power outage as adapters can be replaced easily unlike the whole recorder. Chances are the power adapter may be providing insufficient power for full recorder function (which includes the hard drive).

1.Ensure you are using a power adapter with the correct output rating for your recorder. See What power adapter should I use? for your DVR, NVR or NVW.

2.In the event of an outage, unplug all connections at the back except the TV, mouse and power adapter. This is to check whether the hard drive will be detected and whether the power adapter is still providing some power.

3.Change the power adapter to a known working one that has the same output rating as in step 1.

If the hard drive is detected after unplugging the cameras, chances are the power adapter is providing insufficient power and requires replacement.

If you are already using a compatible hard drive and a known working compatible power adapter, chances are the hard drive needs to be replaced. Please check What hard drives can I use with my DVR or NVR?

Swap DVR Power Adapters for Boot Issues 

The power adapter of the DVR and the power adapter of 4 PRO- camera models are interchangeable as long as they have the same output rating of 12V 2A.

We do this to test whether the power adapter is faulty or the DVR is faulty. Power adapters are designed to protect the DVR in the event of power outages or power surges.

Warning: Do NOT use a power adapter higher than 12V on the DVR. Doing so will void your warranty.

Note: If you have 8 cameras or more, you can swap the cameras’ power adapters instead of the DVR power adapter as long as both camera power adapters have the same output rating.

What hard drives can I use with my DVR or NVR? 

This applies to Swann recorders with pre-installed internal hard drives for recordings. The type of hard drive compatible with Swann DVRs and NVRs are surveillance-type hard drives, which are connected via SATA cable. Before you decide to upgrade your internal hard drive, you MUST know the type, capacity, and size that your model is compatible with:

Compatible Type by Brand

 The following surveillance hard drives are compatible with Swann recorders:

• Seagate Skyhawk by Seagate

• Western Digital Purple by Western Digital

They vary in capacity and size, so check below to identify what is compatible with your recorder.

Compatible Capacity

This is the maximum number of storage capacity in gigabytes or terabytes that a hard drive has which varies in compatibility with your recorder.

Most Swann recorders are pre-installed with a hard drive internally. If you wish to upgrade the capacity of your hard drive, you need to check with our Technical Support for the maximum capacity that your recorder model will support. The maximum capacity varies by model number.

Compatible Size

Should you wish to upgrade your hard drive, ensure to acquire the same size dimensions as the one in your recorder. Surveillance-type hard drives come in two sizes:

Compatible with External Hard Drives

If your DVR or NVR has an eSATA port on the back panel, it means your recorder is capable of connecting an external surveillance-type hard drive.

The function of the external eSATA port may either be for exporting recordings or recording depending on the chipset of your recorder model. For example: Can I use an external SATA hard drive to my DVR8-3000 to increase recording capacity?

The following recorder series have an external eSATA port for a hard drive of up to 3TB in capacity for external recording:

Compatible microSD Cards 

If your recorder model contains a microSD slot, it can support up to 128GB capacity for the microSD card.

The following recorder models are compatible with up to 4TB capacity for the hard drive and 128GB capacity for the microSD card.

Note: Simultaneous recording to both the internal hard drive and microSD card is not supported. If there is a hard drive internally, recording to the hard drive will be prioritized.

Not Compatible

DVR/NVR went offline after an outage or changing routers or Internet Service Provider 

This article applies to DVRs or NVRs that are hardwired to your router, and affects mobile or computer streaming, push notifications, and other features requiring internet connectivity.

The DVR or NVR going offline is a common occurrence when changes were made to the router, its settings, an outage, or changes in IP by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). In order to get it back online, you must have physical access to the DVR or NVR to check the following:

1. If there was a Power or Internet Outage

Normally, turning off the recorder and then turning it back on again will get the DVR or NVR to re-establish communication with your router. However, this will only work if its Network setup is set to DHCP by default. This ensures that the router is able to detect the DVR/NVR via ethernet and update its IP address.

If rebooting did not work, please try additional steps from this article: Remote Access – Basic Router/Network Troubleshooting.

If the live view is blank, then the outage may have affected the power supply. Check this article to troubleshoot: Troubleshoot a Boot Failure or Rebooting issue of a Recorder (DVR/NVR/NVW).

2. If you changed or replaced the router (changed ISP)

See types of routers that may or may not work with the DVR or NVR in this article: Network Setup: What do I need for my DVR/NVR to go online?

If the router is compatible, then the connection between the recorder and the router just needs to be refreshed. See this article for the first few steps to re-establish the network connection: Remote Access – Basic Router/Network Troubleshooting.

3. If you added another router or extender

Ensure that the network connection setup has not changed. If the DVR or NVR is still connected to the same router, but that router was connected to a cable modem instead of a wall, then the setup is no longer a direct connection but a bridged connection.

How to factory reset my DVR / NVR (V8) 

Default Settings VS Factory Reset

To load settings to default in recorder models, you must be logged into the recorder via TV and mouse or computer software.

How to restore settings to factory default via TV and mouse

You must know the user name and password of your recorder in order to do this method. If you do not know the password, you need to perform a password reset instead. See How to reset the password or get the recovery code of your DVR/NVR/NVW

1.Right click on Live View or go to the Task bar.

2.Choose the first icon: Setup.

3.Go to Advanced > Maintain (tab).

4.Click on Load Default.

5.Check System> Save.

How to restore to factory default via Windows software

The DVR or NVR must already be added in the software beforehand and is online in order to do this method. If your DVR or NVR has not been added, you need to perform a password reset instead. See How to reset the password or get the recovery code of your DVR/NVR/NVW

Via HomeSafe View software: 

Go to Control Panel > Group Device Management > Devices: hover over Device > click on Remote Config (wrench icon) > Advanced > Load Default > Check the appropriate box > Save.

Via Swann Security VMS software:

Go to Device Management > Advanced > Load Default > Toggle the appropriate options > Save.
 

Warning: Once you have restored the recorder’s settings to default via software, you are required to set a new password via TV and mouse hardwired to the recorder. If you are unable to login to the Main Menu nor access your recorder via software, you need to do this: How to reset the password or get the recovery code of your DVR/NVR/NVW

Troubleshoot a Boot Failure or Rebooting issue of a Recorder (DVR/NVR/NVW) 

If you your Swann recorder (DVR, NVR, NVW or wireless recorder) is experiencing the below issues, then your unit may have a boot failure problem:

To isolate, consider following the steps below

• Power rating – the common output rating for DVR PSUs is 12V / 2A (2000mA) and 12V / 1.5A – 3.75A for NVRs depending on the model of the recorder. 

 Note: Some of the older DVR PSUs use 12 V / 3A and 48 V / 5 A for NVR. For a list of Power Adapter (PSU) ratings appropriate for your device, please check this What power adapter should I use article.

• Red tag label – most of the power adapter included has red sticker along the power cable to indicate its use (e.g. DVR/NVR or Camera).  

2.Plug to a wall outlet – to eliminate possibility of faulty extension cable or UPS.

 

3.Unplug some cables – if you have an Ethernet cable or cameras already connected, disconnect them for the meantime. Only leave the power plug and monitor connected.

4.Secure connection – ensure that the power plug is connected securely to the recorder and not loose.                            
Note: Some of the older NVR PSUs use a larger Barrel plug.

5.Turn on the recorder – some units may have power switch at the back. Ensure that it is switched ON.                                        

6.For DVR and NVW-800/AllSercure 650 units, if the NO power issue still persists, swap the camera PSU with the recorder to isolate problem. Check this article for the guide.

Note¹: If the recorder remains turned Off, check if the wall outlet where the Power Adapter (PSU) is plugged in has power.

Note²: If the recorder turned On but seeing a black screen, consider checking if your monitor support the correct screen resolution by following this guide – Video Mode Not Supported or Signal Out of Range or No Signal.

Why does my DVR / NVR / camera stop recording motion after a minute? 

DVRs and NVRs are set to record PIR/motion by default. Wireless standalone cameras can only record by PIR/motion. Where the camera is mounted can have an impact on how effective movement is picked up and recorded.

Mounting any camera with thermal and motion sensors in the wrong location and angle can prevent recordings of certain movement. For example:

• Movement in the directions indicated by green arrows are more likely to be detected.

• If the movement is toward and away from the camera at a short distance, the camera sensors may not be able to identify the changes between frames because the differences are subtle.

• If the movement stops, the DVR / NVR will stop recording. This means an intruder could still be standing on the same spot with subtle movements long enough to thwart the PIR/motion sensors.

This setting is ideal if you mounted your camera above your front door, and you expect the camera to record regardless of motion.

Perimeter Intrusion Detection (PID) with PIR can be configured for one NVR camera if you have a V8 recorder and camera.

 A perimeter intrusion region can be used to define specific areas that you want to monitor for motion. For example, a rule can be defined so that your NVR will alert you if one or more objects have entered the boxed region from a particular direction and stayed within the intrusion region for a particular time.

Fix for any camera, especially WiFi cameras: Reposition the camera or add another camera for a different angle of view.

The ideal position of the camera is 7-8 feet high, pointing downwards at an angle to cover the area where people will be walking across the camera’s path

Basic Operation

After connecting the power supply, the power indicator light will turn on, and the device will start up. At this time, you will hear a “beep” from the buzzer. By default, the system is in multi-screen mode.

After the device is powered on normally, you need to log in to the system before operating it. The system will provide corresponding functions according to the permissions of the logged-in user.

The default for the device is “admin” and the default password is blank. You can log in to the system directly the first time after powering on.

In preview mode, click the right mouse button to bring up the quick menu, and click the right mouse button again to exit the quick menu.

1.4.1Start Scan

Start Scan refers to the system automatically displaying each live video in sequence according to the order of the devices in channel lists. The jump button is available only when the user selects the channel in [Main Menu]>[Setup]>[Live], and when not all channels can be displayed completely in the current preview mode.

Adjust image settings for all channels: Brightness, Contrast, Saturation and Hue.

Zoomed in digitally up to 4X or 8X of single channel.

Set the audio settings for each channel to enable, disable, or mute audio, and adjust the volume. When [Auto] is selected, the audio will be enabled automatically when switching to the full-screen display.

Control the RS485 devices of all channels. Set the address, baud rate, protocol, preset points, patrol routes, tracks, etc. of the RS485 device in [Main Menu] > [Setup]

> [PTZ ]

Right-click and select Playback to choose between Video Playback/Quick Playback, Video Playback: Search for the video you want by time or event, then click Play.

Channels without recordings will display a black screen during playback.

Set functional parameters of the device, including: Basic Configuration, Live Configuration, Recording Configuration, Recording Schedule, Alarm Configuration, Network Configuration, User Management, PTZ Configuration, Advanced Configuration.

Basic configuration contains 3 sub-menus: System, Date & Time, and DST

[System Type]: The name of the system displayed on the client

[Model Number]: Used for controlling multiple DVRs with one remote control [Video Format]: Supports PAL and NTSC video format.

[Password Check]: Checking this option means that users must enter a username

and password in the system settings and have the corresponding permissions to perform certain operations.

[Show System Time]: Choose whether to display the time on the scene.

[Max Online Users]: Set the number of network users who can access the device. [Video Output]: Users can select output resolutions 1024×768, 1280×1024, 1920×1080, etc.

[Logout After (Minutes)]: The system automatically logs out after a set time of inactivity. [Startup Wizard]: Whether to display the wizard on startup.

Set the date format, time format, time zone, and manually adjust the system time.

NOTE: The system default time zone of the system is GMT. You can select

[Time Synchronization] to correct the time. The network time server can also be set.

Set the start and end times of daylight saving time through the week or date.

Live configuration contains 3 sub-menus: Live, Main Monitor, and Video Video Masking.

[Camera Name] Click on the camera name, and a software keyboard will pop up. Users can modify the camera name as needed.

Click on the Shift key to switch input method.

[Colour] Users can adjust the brightness, hue, saturation, and contrast of the channel.

.

[Interval] The time interval for switching from one channel to another in sequence during channel rotation.

.

Users can mask certain areas in the scene, max 4 areas.

[Setting] Enter the live view, hold down the left mouse button, drag the mouse to set the blocked area, click [Apply] to save the setting.

Double-click the area that needs to be deleted, and the area will turn black. Right-click

to exit, and then click[Apply] to delete the blocked area.

Recording configuration contains 5 sub-menus: Enable, Record Bitrate, Stamp, Recycle Record, and Snap

Enable/disable recording and audio functions for a specific channel, or set all channels to default enable.

[Resolution] The recording resolution for each channel [FPS] Selection range: 1-30 (NTSC) 1-25 (PAL)

[Encode] The camera’s encoding type, support VBR and CBR

[Quality] The higher the quality, the clearer the video image. Options include Lowest,

Lower, Low, Medium, Higher, and Highest [Max Bitrate] Range: 256kbps ~ 2048kbps

[Adjust] The video format, including CVBS, AHD, CVI, and TVI

Note：These functions are not optional

[Camera Name] Select whether to display the camera name or not [Time Stamp] Select whether to display time on this channel or not

[Position] Click this button and users can use the mouse to drag the camera name and timestamp to any position on the live screen.

4.Recycle Record

.

When selected, the DVR will automatically overwrite the oldest files and continue recording when the hard disk is full. If not selected, the DVR will stop recording when the hard disk is full and prompt “Insufficient remaining space” on the screen.

Recording schedule contains 6 submenus: Schedule, Motion, Sensor, PIR, Vehicle , and Human.

[Copy] Apply the recording schedule of a certain channel to other channels or all channels.

Select the channel, double-click the left mouse button, and edit the weekly plan.

[Add] Add a recording schedule for a certain day [Delete] Delete the selected schedule

[Copy] Copy the schedule of a specified date to other dates. Double-click the left mouse button to customize the effective recording mode time for each day of the week.

The setting is the same as that of scheduled recording, please refer to scheduled recording setting.

NOTE: The default schedule for motion detection recording is all selected.

The Alarm configuration contains 7 sub-menus: Sensor Alarm, Motion Detection, Video Loss, PIR Detection, Human Detection, Vehicle Detection, and Other Alarms.

[Name] Set the name of the sensor

[Holding Time] Select the alarm delay time, with options of 5s, 10s, 20s, 30s, 60s, 120s, Always

[Trigger] Click to set alarm configuration, trigger recording, PTZ linkage, etc. [Buzzer] When selected, the buzzer will sound when an alarm triggered

[Show Full Screen] When there is an alarm trigger, the alarm will pop up in full- screen display

[To Alarm Out] Select to trigger the alarm output on a specified channel

[Email] When an alarm is triggered, the system will send relevant information to the user’s designated email, such as the alarm event, snapshot, device name, device number, etc.

[Snap] When an alarm is triggered, the system will automatically capture and save images of the selected channel

[To Record] Select the channel to trigger recording

[To PTZ] To set the action type and serial number of the linkage

1-3. Schedule

The schedule settings for sensor alarm are the same as for scheduled recording. For specific setting steps, please refer to 4.2.4 [Recording Schedule] -[Schedule] NOTE: The default schedule for sensor alarm is Select All

Motion Detection contains 2 sub-menus: Motion and Schedule.

2-1. Motion Detection

By analyzing the video image, when the system detects motion signals that reach the preset sensitivity, it will trigger motion detection alarms and activate the linkage function to push the alarm information to the App or email.

[Enable] After selected, the Motion detection function of the corresponding channel is turned on, and it is enabled by default

[Holding Time] Select the alarm delay time for the channel, which can be set to 5s, 10s, 20s, 30s, 60s, 120s, or Always on.

[Push Time] Set the time interval for pushing alarm notification to the mobile App, which can be set to 1min, 2min, 3min, 5min, 8min, or 10min.

[Trigger] The setting is the same as that of sensor alarm, please refer to 4.2.5 Alarm Configuration – Sensor

[Area] In this interface, users can drag the scroll bar to adjust the sensitivity value (1-8), the default value is 6, the smaller the value, the higher the sensitivity. Because the sensitivity is affected by factors such as color and time (day or night), users should adjust the value according to the actual situation.

The sensitivity index ranges from 1 to 8. The default sensitivity is 6. The lower the value, the more sensitive. The higher the value, the less sensitive.

Note: It is best not to have flags,trees or other objects that are easy to flutter in the wind in the grid for motion detection to avoid false alarms.

The setting of the motion detection schedule is the same as that of the scheduled recording. Please refer to 4.2.4 [Recording Schedule]-[Schedule] for specific

setup steps. This function controls the effective time of the motion detection feature. Note: The default schedule for motion detection is to Select All.

This function needs to be used with a camera with PIR (Passive Infrared) capability. After PIR detection is set, the DVR will only record when it detects human life, and push the alarm notifications to the App or mailbox.

Getting Started with ClareVision – WiFi Cameras

Overview

The following article provide the following information:

• Setting up your WiFi camera
• Configuring motion, image, and event settings
• Adding the camera to the ClareVision App

 Step One: Connect the Camera to Your LAN

To add the camera to a WiFi network, first connect the camera to the Local Area Network (LAN) through a router, modem, or network switch.

1. Using an Ethernet cable, connect the WiFi camera to a router, switch, or modem that is on the network you would like to configure WiFi for.
2. Power up the camera using the included power supply (Bullet and Turret cameras)
3. Once the camera has connected to the network, use the IP Search Tool to discover the camera IP Address.

IMPROTANT: The WiFi Turret (CLR-V100-4T36WF-W) and Bullet (CLR-V100-4B36WF-W) do not support POE. You must connect the camera to the network using an Ethernet cable and power the camera with the included power supply.

Step Two: Discover the Camera

All Clarevision cameras ship with DHCP turned on. DHCP simply means the router will assign an IP address to the camera when it boots up using the LAN IP address scheme. Example:

• Router IP Address: 192.168.1.1 (typical)
• IP address range that may be available: 192.168.1.2 through 192.168.1.255
• Router will assign an address like this: 192.168.1.x, where x can be any number between 2 and 255.

1. Install and launch the IP Search Tool and select “Search”
   
2. Open a Chrome or Edge browser and input the WiFi camera’s IP address into the URL field on your web browser
   
3. Input the default username and password.

IMPORTANT:

The default username is: admin

The default password is the first six characters of the UUID. The UUID can be found on the camera label or the quick start guide. If those are not available or inconvenient, you can use one of these methods found HERE to discover the UUID.

Tip:

When you login, you will be asked to change the password and answer security questions. Make sure you configure the security questions and store them. If you do not and you lose the password you will have to go to the camera and physically reset it.

Step Three: Update the Camera to the Latest Firmware Release

Clare Controls releases camera firmware with new features about once every four months. Chances are, your camera will need to be updated when you take out of the box. The camera firmware database is located here.

1. Log into the camera and go to the Configuration > System Configuration > Device Information to review the firmware version.
2. Cameras with version numbers where the last 3 digits are lower than 30.x will require you to to to the maintenance tab and upload the firmware to the camera you retrieved from our website. Cameras with version numbers greater than 30.x will have online update services directly from the web console as shown below:
   
3. Simply click on the “Check” button and the camera will check our servers for an update and if available ask you if you want the camera updated. Updates take about 3 minutes.

Step Four: Configure the WiFi Settings

Make sure the camera is connected to a router, switch, or modem before proceeding with the next steps.

1. Select WiFi Configuration on the home page or navigate to Configuration > Network > Advanced Setup > WiFi.
   
2. Tap Scan to discover available WiFi 2.4GHz WiFi networks.
   
3. Select the desired WiFi network you would like to connect the camera to.
   
4. All fields should automatically populate when you select a WiFi network. Input the WiFi password into the Key field.
   
5. Check DHCP if you would like the network to assign the network parameters automatically. Leave this field unchecked if you would like to manually configure settings such as IP Address, Netmask, Default Gateway, and Preferred DNS Server.
   
6. Tap Save to complete and save your configuration.
   

Step Five: Configure the Video Stream

Video stream: the IP Camera streams one or more streams to mobile apps, NVR’s and integrated systems. The video settings control the configuration of those streams. Image settings control the parameters that affect the way the image is captured.

The video stream is configured through two basic menu items: Video and Image.

ClareVision Cameras are configured for best optimal settings out of the box. You will most likely not need to adjust settings unless specific settings require it. You can adjust image settings under Configuration > Image > Image Adjustment.

Tip:

We have configured the encoder for H.264 encoding on all streams. You may want to encode the main stream (stream 1) using H.265 as it requires about 50% of the network bandwidth and 50% of the HDD storage space vs. H.264. We set the main stream to H.264 because certain control systems and mobile phones do not decode H.265. You can tune this to your application.

Step Six: Configure Events

Events are the heart of the intelligent camera. All configuration is found under the Configuration Tab/Events. Events are broken into two categories: motion and smart.

The standard configuration for events from the factory is as follows:

• Motion detection: enabled, full field (entire field of view
• Motion sensitivity: 5 (medium) – will detect a human about xx feet for Value Series and yy for Performance Series
• Motion record calendar: 7×24
• Motion event arm calendar: 7×24
• Motion record: main stream (except V100 4mp, which is set to sub-stream)
• Smart event: disabled

1.   Determine whether you want to use Smart Events or Motion Events:

• 1. Smart Events: detects human objects only and is quite accurate. Use this when other objects, like vehicles are not required. Smart events include intrusion zone, line cross detection, loitering and people gathering. False positives with Smart Events are very rare.
  2. Motion Events: detects motion of any kind (human, package, vehicle, animal)

Tip:

When using the camera stand alone, do not set up more than one event type (motion, smart). It is the event arming action that sends the event to the push notification server and the recording engine inside the camera. The camera will only record ONE event type (motion OR smart). If you arm both, you will get both event types sent to the user as push notifications but only one will record. The user could then receive a push notification for which there is no recording.

Step Seven: Configure Storage

While you may store events locally to the SD Card and to an NVR at the same time, in this example, we will discuss the SD Card storage only.

1.   Go to Configuration > Storage > Recording Schedule.
Set the storage schedule and event type you wish to store.

Tip:

It is the COLOR of the bars that indicate the events that are going to be recorded NOT the drop down box above.

Caution:

Always set the recording schedule to 7×24 and use the EVENT ARMING calendar to control when something will actually be detected, recorded and a push notification sent.

2.   Click on storage management to see the status of the SD Card. If it needs to be formatted it will indicate that, simply press the FORMAT button. The SD Card overwrites by default.

3.   Advanced properties allows you to control the pre-record and post record interval. When an event is detected in the example below, the camera will store the 5 seconds leading up to the event and 10 seconds after the event ends.

Step Eight: Add the Camera to the Mobile App

Now that you have set up your camera, it is time to add it to the ClareVision app. It is quite simple.

1. Launch the ClareVision App
   
2. Tap the ‘Plus’ sign and you will be presented with the three options shown below.
   
3. If you tap device is on the network, the app will scan the LAN for any ClareVision cameras and present them in the following screen. Device is on a remote network provides you with the option of scanning a QR code for a camera on a remote network.
   The system will locate it anywhere in the world and provide you with a login screen to add the remote camera.In our example, we tapped on “Device is on the local network” and two devices were found.
   
4. Tapping on a device brings you to a login screen where you may enter the credentials
   
5. And DONE!
   

You have just successfully installed, configured and enabled a stand alone ClareVision camera on the ClareVision mobile app. Any push notifications and events that are configured  will automatically propagate to your customer’s mobile device.

Getting Started with ClareVision – Standalone Camera Setup

The following is a getting started guide to for ClareVision cameras…it is the basics.

Overview

The following article provide the following information:

• The basic functions of an NVR
• The basic functions of an IP camera
• Best practices for setting up a stand alone camera

NVR’s

The NVR provides two basic functions: it network attaches the cameras and provides storage. In fact, the NVR does very little else.

• Network services: the NVR provides a central place to access IP cameras. You can attach IP cameras directly to the ports of the NVR or leave the cameras on the LAN. The NVR can be configured attach to those cameras for purposes of centralized access and recording. Centralized access can be viewing on the web console or providing access to integrated solutions such as the ClareOne Panel or a home automation system such as Control4
• Recording services: the NVR also provides recording services. You may record full time video or motion events, smart events, alarm events or any combination.

Note:

The NVR does NOT create events. The camera creates all events and the NVR simply records them. Why are the settings in the NVR for motion events, smart events and alarm events? Convenience. The NVR is simply configuring the camera so you do not have to log into each camera to configure an event. Check it out: configure an event in the NVR and log into the camera. You will see the exact settings you configured in the NVR in the camera settings web console.

Tip:

Since many ClareVision cameras come with SD cards installed, when should I use an NVR?

• Full time recording: the SD Cards are not useful for full time recording. A 4MP camera will overwrite in less than one day on full time record
• Storing multiple event types: the camera will store motion OR smart events OR alarm events. Use the NVR if you need multiple event types stored
• Camera count: if you are getting above 2 to 3 cameras, it is probably time for an NVR. Centralized access and storage flexibility will be very useful in those use cases.

IP Cameras

The IP camera is where almost everything interesting happens. The IP camera collects, analyzes and forwards video streams and snapshots to one or more clients. The camera can provide service to a mobile app, the NVR and an integrated control system simultaneously. It also provides multiple streams of video in different resolutions and frame rates so the client device can select the stream it can process. The following provides a high level reference highlighting the differences between the Value Series and Performance Series ClareVision IP cameras:

Setup a Stand-Alone ClareVision Camera, Connect to ClareVision Mobile

What You Need

Learning by doing is far better than reading articles and watching videos. Before you proceed, you will need the following:

• ClareVision IP camera: we will use a Performance series camera in our exercises.
• A computer with internet access
• A mobile phone with ClareVision installed. (Do not install ClareVision Plus – that is our legacy app)
• A PoE switch or a standard ethernet switch with a stand alone PoE injector.

Step One: Install the Camera on Your LAN

The following image shows the connection scheme for a PoE switch connected to a camera.

Tip:

If you are using a PoE switch, most switches have two LED’s on them: power and link. The power LED indicates the switch is powering the camera and the link light indicates data is being transmitted to the camera. Both of these LED’s should be lit. The link light will often flash.

If your link light is flashing on the ethernet switch and the power LED is lit – you have powered up the camera. Success!

Step Two: Find the Camera on Your LAN

All Clarevision cameras ship with DHCP turned on. DHCP simply means the router will assign an IP address to the camera when it boots up using the LAN IP address scheme. Example:

• Router IP Address: 192.168.1.1 (typical)
• IP address range that may be available: 192.168.1.2 through 192.168.1.255
• Router will assign an address like this: 192.168.1.x, where x can be any number between 2 and 255.

Tip:

While you can simply launch the mobile app, discover the camera and configure the password change, we DO NOT recommend this as a best practice. Many configuration parameters and all Smart Events are configurable from the web console only. Take the time to tune the camera to the installation, it will pay dividends in customer satisfaction!

Next launch a web browser (Chrome or Edge) and enter the IP address of the camera you just installed.

We have configured the encoder for H.264 encoding on all streams. You may want to encode the main stream (stream 1) using H.265 as it requires about 50% of the network bandwidth and 50% of the HDD storage space vs. H.264. We set the main stream to H.264 because certain control systems and mobile phones do not decode H.265. You can tune this to your application.

You likely will not touch any image settings except image rotation. Clare put a lot of time into optimizing all settings. We believe you will agree when you see the image quality!

3.   Advanced properties allows you to control the pre-record and post record interval. When an event is detected in the example below, the camera will store the 5 seconds leading up to the event and 10 seconds after the event ends.

Step Six: Add the Camera to the Mobile App

Now that you have set up your camera, it is time to add it to the ClareVision app. It is quite simple.

Launch the ClareVision App

Tap the ‘Plus’ sign and you will be presented with the three options shown below.

If you tap device is on the network, the app will scan the LAN for any ClareVision cameras and present them in the following screen. Device is on a remote network provides you with the option of scanning a QR code for a camera on a remote network. The system will locate it anywhere in the world and provide you with a login screen to add the remote camera.

In our example, we tapped on “Device is on the local network” and two devices were found.

Tapping on a device brings you to a login screen where you may enter the credentials

And DONE!

You have just successfully installed, configured and enabled a stand alone ClareVision camera on the ClareVision mobile app. Push notifications and events as configured will automatically propagate to your customer’s mobile device!

Configuring Motion Events in a ClareVision Camera

The following a is a quick guide to setting up motion events in a ClareVision camera.

Motion events are quite simple to set up.

Step One: Go to the configuration tab, Events/Motion Events

Step Two: Set the motion area.

Set the motion area by dragging your mouse over the grid pattern. The area without grid coverage will not be analyzed for motion. In the image above, the pool surface should be removed from the motion detection area as the spa spillway will create rippling on the surface of the pool which will result in false triggers.

You should also watch for nearby bushes/trees/foliage that may move when the wind is blowing. The motion algorithm in the ClareVision cameras was overhauled in the fall release. As a result, insects, birds and foliage in the distance will rarely cause false triggers.

Step Three: Tune the Sensitivity.

As you lower the sensitivity, the likelihood of false triggers will be reduced, but the camera’s detection zone for a human size object will also be reduced. See the table below:

Note:  the above table is for human sized objects and the fixed lens cameras.  Cars, for example, will trigger motion events at greater distances and zoom adjustment on a varifocal camera will allow you to detect human objects at greater distances than those listed above.

Step Four: Set the arming schedule.

The arming schedule is what controls when the camera will process motion events. When a motion event is created, it is automatically sent to the push server (stand alone) or sent to the NVR for processing. Additionally, when a motion event is created, it will be sent to the recording engine in the camera and if configured to record, it will be recorded to the SD Card.

The arming schedule default is 7×24.

Caution:

It is easy to get confused by the multiple calendars that are in a camera or NVR. The event arming schedule shown above is the primary calendar you need to manage.

If your installation requires events to be disabled during certain hours of the day or days of the week ALWAYS do the following:

1. Use the event arming schedule to control when the event will be analyzed and propagated

2. Leave the record schedule on 7×24 record. DO NOT try to match the two calendars – use the event arm schedule to control when events happen NOT the record schedule.

Step Five: TEST

This is an easy thing to skip – make sure you test your setup! Watch the area of interest and make sure objects moving in that area are captured (go to the Playback tab to view). Equally as important, make sure you have filtered out areas that are prone to create false triggers: nearby foliage, pools, sidewalks, roadways etc.

Configuring Smart Events in Standalone Performance Series ClareVision Cameras

The following a is a quick guide to setting up Smart Events in standalone Performance Series ClareVision cameras.

Step One: Go to the configuration tab, Events/Smart Events

Make sure you ENABLE Intelligent Detection such as Humanoid detection. You must have Intelligent detection enabled to use any of the presents below.

There are four smart event types:

• Intrusion: intrusion events are boundary intrusion events. Intrusion detection can be configured with up to four zones.
• Line Crossing: line crossing detection can be configured as a unidirectional crossing or bidirectional crossing.
• Loiter Detection: detects when people stay in a region of interest for an certain time period.
• People Gather: detects when the density of people in an area exceeds a threshold.

All of these events are human based. Vehicle detection is being worked on at this time and will be in a future firmware release.

Although there are four smart event types, they all are stored and propagated to the mobile app as ‘Smart Events’. There is meta-data that indicates the smart event type in the event log in the mobile app and in the push notification. You can configure more than one smart event type.

Step Two: Intrusion

Intrusion is the most commonly used smart event type. It is similar to motion detection in concept but is restricted to human detection. False positives are very rare with smart intrusion events.

First – check the ‘enable’ box. Without the event enabled, nothing will happen.

Click “Draw Area”. You can draw a quadrilateral anywhere on the screen. If the region of interest does not fit nicely within a quadrilateral, you can draw a second quadrilateral by using the “Warn Region” dropdown box. You can have up to four regions of interest.

Any intrusion in any of the up to four regions will trigger the intrusion event.

The “Time Threshold” is the duration the person needs to be in the region for the event to trigger. The time is in seconds.

“Sensitivity” is the human detection sensitivity setting. A higher number will detect humans further away from the camera, but may be prone to more false detections. Lower sensitivity has the reverse effect.

Step 3: Line Crossing

Line crossing is used when you want to know when someone has entered or exited a specific threshold or doorway as opposed to simply knowing if someone is in a region

In this example, the camera will trigger when someone walks from the house to the pool, but not the reverse.

Where to find the default password for ClareVision Cameras and NVRs

The default password for all ClareVision cameras and NVRs is the FIRST SIX CHARACTERS of the UUID which can be found on:

• Back of the installation manual
• Label on the camera box
• Label on the back of the physical camera

IMPORTANT NOTE: The password is case sensitive.

You will be prompted to change the password when initially setting up the camera in both the camera web console and ClareVision App.

How to use the SD Card in a ClareVision Camera as Backup to Your NVR.

Want to be sure events are available for your customer in the event of an NVR failure or NVR theft? Use the SD Card on the Camera as a backup.

Overview

The SD Card in the camera (included in all 4MP and 2MP fixed lens ClareVision cameras) is a useful tool when you want to install one or two cameras and keep the job low cost and simple.  The user experience is similar to an NVR with event playback and the storage is reliable.  What about an installation with an NVR?  Use the SD Card as a back up for events.

NVR Setup

The NVR setup is not changed in any way to accomplish the goal of using the SD Card as a backup for events.  Read this article to learn more about setting up a ClareVision NVR.  Once you have completed setting up the NVR to record motion or smart events, you are ready to configure the camera to record events.

Camera Setup

By setting up the NVR to record events in the motion or smart event setup, you have already configured the camera’s motion or smart events.

Here is the NVR with smart events configured using Intrusion Detection

By configuring the Intrusion Detection in the NVR as above, the camera Intrusion Detection is configured as shown below (the NVR simply ‘programs’ the camera)

The recording schedule you setup in the NVR is the recording schedule for the NVR, not the camera.  To use the camera SD card as a backup to the NVR for events, we need to set the recording schedule up in the camera.

The image below shows the camera recording schedule.  It is set to record all Smart Events, 7 days/week, 24 hours/day.

Save the schedule and you are done.  The camera will both, send the event to the NVR for storage and record the event locally.

Points to Remember:

1. You cannot access SD Card events from the mobile app when it is behind an NVR (i.e. on the PoE ports).  If the camera is connected to the NVR on the general network, you can add the camera to the mobile app as a separate device and access the events directly from the camera tile on the home page.  We only recommend doing this for troubleshooting and access to SD Card events as it will get confusing for your customer if the camera is visible on the home page and the NVR screen.
2. You can only back up ONE event type: motion OR smart and not both.  The camera will only record a single event type.
3. Accessing the stored events on the camera itself involves the following steps assuming the camera is on an NVR PoE port:
   1. Log into the NVR
   2. Go to Configuration/Channel/Camera
      
   3. Access the virtual host by clicking on the IP address of the camera you wish to view and login to the camera.
   4. Once logged into the camera, go to the Playback tab and view the stored events.

Conclusion

Clare Controls includes SD cards on many of its cameras standard.  You can use the camera stand-alone OR use the SD card as a backup to the NVR.  With a few minutes of work, you can assure you customer their data is safe!

Where do I find the UUID on an Installed Camera

If you camera is already installed and you need the UUID for setup – follow these instructions.

Let’s say you are being called out to configure cameras that have already been installed and no one wrote down the UUID you need for the password. There are two simple methods for retrieving the UUID without getting a ladder out and going to each camera

Method 1: Cameras are Stand-Alone on the LAN

Launch the ClareVision App

Tap the ‘Plus’ sign and you will be presented with the three options shown below.

If you tap device is on the network, the app will scan the LAN for any ClareVision cameras and present them in the following screen.

There you have all ClareVision cameras attached to the LAN with the UUID (needed for the default password) and the IP address of the camera. You can now log into the camera your browser using the IP address and the first 6 digits of the UUID as the default password.

Method 2: Cameras are on the NVR

This is even easier. Log into the NVR, change the password as requested. When you do so, all attached cameras will have their UserID and password set automatically to the UserID and password of the NVR.

If you want to change the UserID and password of the NVR, you do so under the Configuration tab System/Users

Check the “Sync Camera Password” box and password will change on all attached ClareVision cameras whether on the PoE ports or the general LAN when the NVR password change is accepted.

Note:

The camera password sync feature works with ClareVision cameras only. It does not work with attached ONVIF cameras (e.g. Luma, Hikvision etc)

How to set up Event Snapshots using cloud storage for ClareVision cameras and NVRs

Event snapshots can be configured for ClareVision cameras and NVRs that are backed up on a Google Drive account. Whenever an event is detected such as smart event, motion, or other alarm trigger, a snapshot image will be created of the scene and uploaded to your Cloud storage device. This guide will help you set up Google Drive for use as a backup with event snapshots.

Google Drive:

1. Utilize IP Search Tool to find your camera on the network and notate the IP address.
2. Open Edge or Chrome and navigate to the IP address for your camera.
   • (ex. http://10.100.0.100)
3. Log into the camera using camera’s credentials that you created at setup.
4. Click on the “Configuration” tab, then click on “Storage” in the navigation tree on the left side of the page.
   
5. Click on the “Storage Management” sub-menu and switch to the “Cloud Storage” tab.
6. From the drop-down menu in a camera, select “Google” or the “Enable” checkbox and “Google” checkbox on an NVR. The web console will auto-fill with the Web setup URL and Authentication Code. You will need this code to complete setup.
   
7. Copy and past the web browser URL link (https://www.google.com/device) into a new browser tab.
8. Copy and paste the Authentication code into the Google devices login window and tap “Next“.
   
9. Log in or select your Google Drive account.
10. Tap “Allow” to give the NVR rights to your Google Drive.
    
11. After the success screen displays, switch back to the camera web console and tap “Bind“.
    
12. The camera is now be connected with your Google Drive account. You must enable Cloud Snapshot Backup individually for each camera including those connected to an NVR by opening the camera through the Virtual Host. Configure the Cloud Linkage method in your motion detection settings:
13. Open the “Events” window in the sub-menu and select “Ordinary Events or Smart Events“, depending on the need.
14. Under your selected event type, select “Linkage Method” in the sub-menu.
15. Add a check box next to “Upload Via Cloud” to have event snapshots loaded into the cloud.
    
16. Tab “Save“.
17. The next time motion is detected, a folder will be created in your Google Drive that will capture and upload snapshots of motion events.

How to add an NVR in FusionPro

Users now have the ability to add NVRs to their account, as well as adding cameras to the NVR.

IMPORTANT NOTE: We recommend that the cameras are first configured individually and then added to the ClareVision app before adding them through FusionPro. This ensures that the password is reset on the camera. If attempting to add the camera in FusionPro with a 6-character password or less (which is the default) it will fail.

To add a new NVR:

1. Access the desired FusionPro account and click to add a new device.
   Desired Account > Devices tab > Add Devices > Cameras > (Select an NVR type)
   
2. Enter all the required info (IP address, username, password) and select the desired channels.
   
3. Click Create Device.

   Devices are created until an error occurs. If an error occurs, device creation will stop and it notes which channels were successfully added. If the user accidentally checked a channel that is not in use, simply uncheck the problematic channel and click Create Device.

   If the user returns to the add device screen and enters the IP of an existing NVR, the existing channels are displayed.

To add a camera to an existing NVR:

1. Follow the steps above for adding a camera.
   – or –
   Edit an existing camera on the NVR.
2. Scroll down to the NVR Cameras table.
3. Click on an unconfigured row.
   
4. Re-enter the username and password and click Save.
   You can also navigate to any NVR channel device from another NVR channel device by clicking Edit in the NVR Cameras table of a configured channel.

To delete an NVR camera:

1. Go to the Devices tab.
2. Select the checkbox for the desired camera, and then select Delete in the Select an Action drop-down.

Color at Night cameras feature everything included in Performance Series cameras with the added benefit of a warm white LED light that can illuminate the scene and produce vivid color in night time settings. Do all cameras come with SD Cards?

No. The 2MP and 4MP Value Series and 4MP Performance series come with pre-installed SD cards. The 8MP and varifocal Performance Series cameras do not come with SD cards. SD Cards are available for purchase should you need to add or upgrade capacity.

What can I store on the SD Card?

The SD card is intended for event storage, but you can configure normal (full time) record as well. You can only record ONE event type to record on the SD card: basic motion, smart events, OR normal record. NVR’s do not have this restriction.

What is the lapse time for the SD Card, and will it loop back?

The SD card in the 2MP is 16GB and 32GB in the 4MP cameras (both Performance and Value). For the 4MP cameras, if the defaults in the camera are left unchanged, you will be able to record approximately 18 hours of fulltime video or just over 1,000 on minute events. If the compression is changed to H.265, you will be able to store about 36 hours of fulltime video or 2,000 one-minute events. The 2mp will last slightly longer.  The default setting for the cameras is loop-back enabled, meaning the camera will overwrite the oldest stored video once it runs out of storage space (FIFO).

Can I use the SD card as a ‘backup’ to the NVR by storing events locally and fulltime record and events on the NVR?

Yes. Camera recording can be set up independent from NVR recording.

What wall brackets and junction boxes are compatible with ClareVision cameras?

You can see a complete list of all ClareVision wall brackets and junction boxes, as well as cameras they are compatible with HERE.

Why is my camera recording full time when it’s configured for motion only?

All 4M V100 cameras (part number CLR-V100-4X36X) record full time and tag the motion events in the time line when motion occurs.

What are some of the important default settings I should know?

ClareVision have been configured for best out-of-box settings and experience. The default settings should be ‘ready to go’ for 90% of applications reducing training and field installation errors. The important settings are as follows:

• FPS: 15
• Compression: H.264
• IR: automatic
• WDR (when available): off
• Time: NTP time server on, refresh every 10 min, Eastern Time Zone, DST on
• Motion Record: enabled, 7 days, 24 hours a day
• Motion Events: enabled, 7 days, 24 hours a day
• Smart Events: disabled

What is the password process and what if I lose it?

The default password is the first six characters of the UUID. The first time you log into the camera from the web console you will be prompted to change the password. You will be prompted with setting up security questions and offered to download an encryption key for password recovery. Either those questions or the encryption key can be used to reset the password. If you do not take these steps and store this information, the only way to recover the camera is a physical factory restore. (See manual). When that is done, the camera will restore to factory default settings allowing you to enter the first fix digits of the UUID as the password.

I use Hikvision, is there an ‘activation key’?

There is no ‘activation key’ for the ClareVision cameras.

What is the difference between the calendar in the storage settings menu and the calendar in the events menu?

The events menu is essentially an ‘arming’ feature. In order to propagate events to the mobile app, linked services (e.g., relays, FTP, email), or to record you need to arm an event type. The configuration of the event along with the event calendar control the CONFIGURATION of the event (e.g., H/M/L sensitivity, motion area) and the time of day / day of week the camera will trigger on an event. The event ‘arming’ controls when and how an event happens, and no other system or service will receive those events without this feature set up. The record calendar simply controls when events (or normal video) will be recorded provided they are armed at that time.

What do you recommend I do for setup with the two calendars?

The flexibility of these calendars is virtually endless, but in a majority of use cases we recommend the following:

• Set the record calendar to 7×24 record for the event type you wish to record.
• Use the event calendar to control when an event will be triggered which will in turn control when it is recorded.

How does all this relate to the mobile app and the user experience?

The event ‘arming’ controls the propagation of the event to the mobile app via push notifications. This is INDEPENDENT from whether the event is recorded. The recording under storage management controls what ends up on the SD Card which is where the mobile app goes for the event history. We cannot stress this enough: keep the storage settings calendar set to 7×24 and use the event calendar to control when a motion event (example) is triggered (push notification) and stored to the SD card (event lookup in the mobile app). If you do not do that you risk having a push notification sent to the user with no recording to view when they go to the event log.

Why then are the event arming schedules and record schedules separate?

There are plenty of use cases where you may want to record on a different schedule than the arming schedule. This can be common in more complex installs where the linkage feature for event arming is used. (see manual for more information).

What are Smart Events and how do they work?

Smart Events are events that require the presence of a human to trigger. They are also specific in nature: intrusion zone, line crossing, loiter, people gather.

What is the difference between a Motion Event and a Smart Intrusion Event?

You can essentially use the Smart Intrusion event to reduce false triggers if the primary interest is detecting the presence of a person. Motion events use a typical grid pattern and sensitivity settings to control which areas of the field of view are analyzed for motion and at what sensitivity. A car, dog, or any real motion in the included field of view will trigger an event. A smart intrusion event is set up by drawing a box around the area of interest, setting the sensitivity and detection type. Once configured, a human will have to enter the intrusion zone for the event to trigger.

How do I power the cameras?

Nearly all ClareVision cameras (excluding CLR-V100-4B36WF-W and CLR-V100-4T36WF-W) are PoE AF and do not require PoE+ (PoE AT). You can also power the cameras with a 12V DC 1amp power supply (not included).

Do the cameras support remote access?

The cameras support remote access via the mobile app via Clare’s free P2P service. Additionally, you may use Dynamic DNS or configure the local router to enable remote web access.

How do I predict the storage and bandwidth required for an installation?

You may use the Clare bandwidth and storage calculator located HERE to calculate your bandwidth and storage requirements for a project.

How do the cameras receive firmware updates?

All Clare cameras can be updated via the ClareVision OTA server using the mobile app. This is the easiest way to update the cameras. Update notices happen two different ways:

• Upon adding the camera to the app, the app will check the OTA server for a firmware update and, if available, require the user to download the update.
• Once added, if the camera is eligible for an update an icon will appear in the live view indicating there is an available update. Updates are in the device configuration dropdown under “Device Information”.

Which browsers does Clare support?

Currently, ClareVision cameras and NVRs support Google Chrome and Edge browsers.

Is there a Control4 driver for ClareVision cameras?

Yes. The Control4 driver supports live view and events including motion events and smart events. SDDP is not currently supported but will be released along with OVRC support before the end of 2021.

Is there a ClareOne driver for ClareVision cameras?

Yes. The ClareVision driver supports live view on the mobile app and ClareOne panel as well as motion and smart event propagation for automation rules and notifications.

Are the ClareVision cameras/NVRs OVRC enabled?

Do your NVR’s support outboard storage?

Yes. They support USB drives and NAS drives.

I see you list your NVR’s as 4, 8 and 16 channel but the camera support figures are higher, please explain?

The model ID for the NVR (e.g., 4-channel) is the number of PoE ports on-board. The channel support listed in the data sheet is the actual number of cameras the NVR will support. The four channel will support 9 cameras, the 8 channel will support 16 cameras and the 16 channel will support 25 cameras.

Keep in mind the cameras supported number is a license number and is not an absolute support figure. The incoming and outgoing bandwidth of the NVR will dictate the number of cameras the NVR can support in a real application. The bandwidth calculations are impacted by VBR settings, compression settings, framerate settings, motion in the field of view among other factors.

Does your NVR support 4K?

Yes. The NVR output is 4K. If the camera is not a 4K camera, the NVR will up-sample the video to 4K as it passes video to the HDMI port. The NVR will record up to 4k (8MP) camera streams.

Do your NVR’s have sensor inputs and relay outputs?

Yes. There are 16 sensor inputs and 4 relay outputs on the 16 channel NVR.

Does the NVR expose the camera settings for easy setup?

Yes, the NVR provides access to nearly all camera settings via the NVR web UI.

Is there a Control4 driver for the NVR?

Yes, the Control4 driver supports live view. If you would like events from a camera on the NVR, connect the camera to the NVR on the general LAN and not the PoE ports. When that is done, the camera driver can be used to directly access the cameras.

Is there a ClareOne Driver for the NVR?

Are the ClareVision NVR’s OVRC enabled?

When a ClareVision Plus camera or Luma camera are connected to a ClareVision NVR, which app do I use?

Connecting a ClareVision Plus camera, Luma camera (or ONVIF camera) to a ClareVision NVR enables the ClareVision app to gain access to the cameras for purposes of live view and event playback. The live view NVR integration to ClareOne and Control4 will also function. In effect, the ClareVision NVR ‘adapts’ a ClareVision Plus or third party ONVIF camera to the ClareVision cloud. You can use this technique to take over camera systems that are ONVIF compliant and bring them to the Clare Cloud!

Can I add or change a ClareVision NVR hard disk drive?

Yes, the four, eight and sixteen channel NVR’s have 1TB, 2TB and 4TB hard disk drives pre-installed. The four and eight channel NVR’s can support one hard disk drive up to 8TB. The sixteen channel NVR has four drive bays total and ships with 1 4TB HDD pre-installed. The sixteen channel NVR can be equipped with up to four 8TB internal hard disk drives, or 32TB’s total storage. Additionally, the sixteen channel NVR has an external SATA port for connection to external hard disk arrays. The warranty is not voided when you change or upgrade hard disk drives.

What manufacturer and model hard drives are recommended?

Clare installs and recommends Toshiba DT series hard disk drives designed for surveillance applications.

Which operating systems is the app available on?

The ClareVision App is available on the Google Play store for Android and Apple App store for iOS.

Does the mobile app support NVR’s and cameras?

Yes. There is a different view for NVR’s (grid view) than cameras. The features and actions are nearly identical other than the device presentation.

How do I add cameras to the mobile app?

Adding cameras is extremely simple in ClareVision. Tap the “+” sign on the home page, tap ‘device is on the network’ if you are on the same network as the camera (e.g., home LAN), the app will scan the local network for all unattached cameras and NVR’s and produce a list of cameras for inclusion. Select the camera you would like to add and enter the password. You can now access the camera for live view and view all stored events on the camera or NVR.

How do I configure the mobile app or cameras for remote viewing?

No configuration required. Once you add the device to the mobile app, the Camera is enabled in the ClareVision cloud automatically.

Can I add a camera remotely?

Yes.  Tap the “+” button on the home screen and either scan the UUID or enter it by hand, enter the password and done.

I have noticed there are very few configuration options for camera events in the mobile app. Why is that?

That was intentional. Most pro-style apps do not provide configuration features in the end user mobile app. We did not want the user to inadvertently alter the configuration you enabled thereby causing a service visit. We will gradually enable end user configuration when that feature (e.g., motion) can be completely displayed to the end user and you can remotely view the changes and correct them in the event a user configured something incorrectly.

Which events are supported by the mobile app at launch?

Motion events are supported at launch. Smart events are not. We expect to release smart events support before the end of Q2 2021.

Can I search for a recording or event by date/time?

Yes, tap ‘Filter’ in the event log to filter by event type and/or date/time.

I see you still have ClareHome/ClareOne and now ClareVision. What do I need to do to enable the best consumer experience?

While there are several ways to configure a ClareOne/ClareVision system, we recommend the following sequence as a guide to best practices:

During the setup of the ClareOne panel via FusionPro, go to the “Add Devices” tab and select Cameras. When in that screen FusionPro/ClareOne will scan the local network for ClareVision Cameras and produce a list of devices you may add. In that screen, each camera discovered on the network includes a configuration web console link. Use that link to connect to the ClareVision Camera(s) or NVR web interface.

Use the web console for the cameras or NVR to set the password and configure the camera/NVR including event arming and recording schedules

Once complete, enter the new device username (default admin) and the new;y changed password in FusionPro to enable the camera(s) and NVR in ClareOne.

Once the cameras are installed, have the user download the ClarOne/ClareHome app and the ClareVision app. Once the user has signed into the ClarHome app and added the desired cameras to the ClareVision app the two apps will deep link.

A deep link action happens when a user taps the ClareHome camera icon on the favorites page. Doing so will automatically take the user to the ClareVision app to that camera’s live feed. Tapping the back arrow in Android or the app name in the upper left corner of an iOS device will return the user to ClareHome/ClareOne.

Why did you release ClareVision on a second app?

After a great deal of deliberation, we determined that the stand-alone use cases for the camera line did not need the burden of the entire ClareHome application, and that through deep linking we could create a near ‘single app’ experience for the user when both systems are present.

Where else is deep linking used?

Everywhere. Any app you use where you touch an icon or hyperlink uses deep linking to take you to the destination app/web site. The most well-known example of deep linking is Facebook and Facebook Messenger. The messaging app is an independent app from the base Facebook app and uses deep linking to provide a seamless user experience.

Will there be a single account in the future for users with ClareOne and ClareVision?

Yes. We are working hard to provide a single-sign-on experience for the Clare Ecosystem.

Is there a monthly fee for ClareVision services?

No. The P2P service and all cloud services are free of charge. We encourage dealers to charge for this service as part of your recurring monthly fee however making 100% of your service fee drop to your bottom line!

Understanding Recording Schedules vs. Arming Schedules on ClareVision Cameras

Part 1 of 3: ClareVision Camera Setup:

1.  Download the IP Search Tool to your computer and launch the program.

2. Ensure your computer is connected to the same network as the cameras to discover all the cameras available on the network.

3. Copy the IP Address of the camera you would like to start configuring and paste it into your web browser to open the camera console. (We highly recommend you use Internet Explorer for optimal performance).

4.  Enter default camera username and password.

 5.  You will be prompted to change the default password. Please have the primary user change the password and write it down on the back of the Installation Manual that came with the camera. Leave this manual with the primary user for future technical servicing.

6.  Have the user select and input their security questions for password recovery. We also recommend that the password reset key be downloaded and emailed to the primary user for safe keeping in the event that the password and security reset answers are lost.

 

5.  FusionPro will search the network for compatible cameras and display a list of all available cameras found.
