Agreement

To simplify the description in this manual, the following conventions are made:

• The Camera Monitoring System CMS is referred to as CMS or software for short.

• DVR, NVR, IPC, VR CAM, WIFI, IPC equipment, etc., are collectively referred to as equipment.

• “Click” refers to clicking the left mouse button. “Double click” refers to double-clicking the left mouse button.

• Some pictures are schematic; please refer to the actual software interface.

• A “note” hint text may appear in this manual to indicate that the operation is potentially risky. Ignoring the text may result in errors or unpredictable results.

1. Introduction to CMS

1.1 Function Introduction

CMS, short for Camera Monitor System, is a camera monitoring client that offers online preview images, video storage, remote playback, device management, video/screen download, and other functions. It is suitable for DVR, NVR, IPC, VR CAM, Wifi IPC, and other devices.

CMS boasts the following characteristics:

• Interface Containerization Processing Mode: The client component adopts careful containerized processing in interface design. This simplifies the processing mode of multi-screen and single-screen switching, greatly enhancing the multi-screen operation feeling and adapting to the development trend of multi-screen PCs.

• Channelized Management Mode: The client component design incorporates a channelized management mode, abandoning the traditional design mode with the device as the core subject. This approach aligns better with the development direction of IP monitoring.

1.2 Operating Environment

Operating System:

• Microsoft Windows 7 / Windows 8 / Windows 10 (32/64 bit Chinese and English operating system)

• OSX 10.9 or higher (64-bit Chinese and English systems)

CPU: I3/2.4GHz or more

Memory: 4GB or more

Graphics Card:

• Integrated graphics (Intel HD 4000 and later)

• Discrete graphics (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 and later)

Note: Previewing multiple videos or high-resolution videos simultaneously requires higher hardware configuration and network bandwidth.

2. Installation login

2.1 Installation and Operation

• Step 1: Run the EseeCloud_Setup_3.0.1.exe installation package.

• Step 2: Select the display language during installation.

• Step 3: Read and determine whether to accept the agreement.

• Step 4: Determine the path for installation.

• Step 5: Installation is complete, and you can choose to run immediately.

2.2 User Login

2.2.1 Local Login

1.Enter Account + Password

2.Click to Login

• Local login can be accessed using the default account admin (the initial password is blank).

• Local login mode allows for remembering passwords or automatic login (automatic login is not possible when auto-lock status is enabled).

• Clicking the string in the login “forgot password” encrypts it. Different accounts correspond to different encrypted passwords.

• The account number box can display three accounts that are mostly used recently.

Note:

• The current CMS version only allows the username “admin” with an initial empty password. To prevent potential safety hazards, please ensure to modify the initial password after the first login to prevent unauthorized access to your device or other adverse consequences.

• For better protection of your privacy and product security improvement, we strongly recommend setting up complex passwords based on the following rules: greater than 8 characters, including uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, special characters, etc. Please understand that it is your responsibility to properly configure all passwords and other related product security settings.

2.2.2 Cloud Login

Note:

1.Cloud login should use the registered account (the account registered by the mobile app can also be used).

2.It’s recommended to use a valid mailbox for the registered account, facilitating password retrieval in special circumstances.

3.After registering an account, you need to log in to the email address provided during registration to activate the email address (click the received link to verify).

4.If the mailbox status is not activated, password retrieval won’t be possible after forgetting the password (the activation period is two days).

5.The first time you use EseeCloud_CMS, the software’s time zone will automatically sync with your computer, and you can change it later in the advanced settings.

3. Live Preview

3.1 Connection/Disconnection

List Style: Tree Shape

• Connection:

1.Double-click on the selected device/channel to enter the connected video state.

2.After selecting the device/channel, right-click and select “Connect Video” to enter the connected video state (Figure 1).

• Disconnection:

1.Double-click to disconnect the current connection after selecting the connected device/channel.

2.After selecting the device/channel, right-click and select ‘Disconnect’ to disconnect the current connection.

1.After selecting the device/channel, click the play button on the device list to enter the connected video status.

2.After selecting the device/channel, click the stop button on the device list to disconnect the current connection status.

3.Right-click operation connection/disconnection is consistent with the tree list style. The specific operation can be referenced.

Note: Poor performance of the computer will directly affect the smoothness of the preview video. It is recommended that the number of channels connected to the device be gradually increased.

1.Click the Record button on the toolbar to enter the video recording status (as shown in Figure 1 below).

2.After the video operation, click the record button again to stop recording.

Note:

1.The actual recording duration is not equal to the time difference between the start recording time and the end recording time.

2.If the device network is interrupted, the recording will succeed but no video file will be saved.

3.The channel is maximized or minimized during recording, and the recording will stop.

1.If the switching stream video is not loaded, the screenshot operation will be saved.

2.The screenshot does not have the function of continuous screenshots. Clicking the screenshot button once will capture an image.

Enter:

1.Double-click the channel screen to enter the maximized state, right-click, and select “panoramic mode” to switch to the panorama mode. Entering panorama mode automatically switches the code stream to HD.

2.In 1 split-screen mode, the panorama mode option is available on the right toolbar. Click to select and switch to panorama mode.

Drop Out:

1.Click on Panorama mode on the right toolbar and select ‘Exit panorama’ to exit panorama mode.

2.Exit the panorama mode by exiting the screen from the split-screen state.

1.In the local login mode, you can select 6 display modes in the panorama mode, including: panorama, cylinder, expand, 2 split screen, 4 split screen, 6 split screen.

2.In the cloud login mode, you can select 4 display modes in the panorama mode, including: panorama, cylinder, split screen, quad screen.

Installation Mode:

• Suspension: The direction of the cruise is clockwise.

• Wall-mounted: The direction of the cruise swings left and right.

Cruise Mode:

• Speed: Cruise provides speed 3S / speed 40S / speed 60S options, corresponding to slow / medium / fast speeds.

• Stop: Pause the current state of the cruise. Left-click on the channel in the cruise or select the stop cruise button in the cruise mode to click.

3.4 PTZ Control

Cruise / PTZ / Zoom / Focus / Aperture / Preset:

The PTZ control function can be used only when the PTZ device (such as a ball machine) is connected to the main control device (such as NVR or DVR).

• Cruise: Directly perform the screen cruise operation.

• Pan/Tilt: Adjust the lens direction.

• Zoom: Replace the mirror multiple.

1.Adjust the PTZ control speed (default level is 6).

2.Adjust lens direction and cruise.

3.Adjust the zoom and focus of the PTZ camera.

4.Set and call the set bit, adjust the lens to the specified position, set the preset position, input the preset position later, click to call, and the lens will automatically move to the specified position.

3.5 Split Screen Number

• The client provides 1 split screen, 4 split screens, 6 split screens, 8 split screens, 9 split screens, 16 split screens, 25 split screens, 36 split screens, and 49 split screens. These nine split screens can be switched at will.

When the number of connected device channels is greater than the current number of split screens, the displayed split screen will automatically increase, reaching up to 49 split screens.

3.6 Other Functions

• Sharpness Switching: Use the SD SD and HD HD toggle buttons.

• Sound:

1.Select the screen channel.

2.Click to turn off/on the sound.

• Intercom:

1.Click the intercom button to open the intercom.

2.Left-click and hold the connection to talk, click the exit button to exit the intercom.

• Help: The help buttons under each interface provide the corresponding function instructions.

• Recording: When the live preview channel is recording, the icon will flash.

• Shut Down:

1.Click to exit the login button.

2.Click OK to log out and return to the login screen.

4. Video Playback

4.1 Video Playback

Playback Steps:

1.Select device channel.

2.Select video type.

3.Select playback date.

4.Confirm search video.

• Retrieving the video requires three conditions: ‘device channel + recording type + playback date’.

• Video types include: motion detection, timing detection, alarm detection, and manual detection. Generally, all types of videos can be retrieved by default.

• The selection of the device channel can directly affect the retrieval result. Be sure to confirm the online status of the device before recording.

4.2 Timed Playback

• Timed Playback: Select the timed playback operation, enter the recording effective time point in the time frame, and confirm that it can be played immediately (effective time point refers to the time retrieved by video playback).

• Time Drag Playback: Adjust the time scale and drag the cursor on the timeline to the corresponding time (as shown in Figure 2 below).

4.3 Video Sync

Steps:

1.Retrieve video.

2.Check sync.

3.Switch time point.

• Date: Check the synchronization switching time point; the channel synchronization will not take effect.

• Time: Check the synchronous switching time point; the recording time of each channel will not take effect at the same time.

4.4 Video Download

• Batch Download: Enter the time period to be downloaded at the start time + end time according to the needs of the retrieved recording time range.

• Time Period Download: The time period of the video recording will also be displayed in the download resource. Click the download button for any time period that fits your needs.

4.5 Other Functions

• Playback Control: Support playback/pause/stop control in video playback, select the screen form in playback and click operation.

• Time Scale Adjustment: The settings in the Setup Wizard are not set. The playback timeline scale will default to 60 minutes. You can also modify the scale value by clicking ‘Reduction’ or ‘Magnify’ during video playback.

5. Equipment Management

5.1 Add Device

• Add a LAN Device:

1.Enter the device management interface.

2.Refresh LAN device.

3.Check the device and click Add (LAN device can be filtered by entering IP/ID in the filter box).

• Add Cloud ID Device:

• Manually enter the device ‘cloud ID number + channel number’, select ‘type’ according to the actual situation of the device, and click to confirm (the password can be selected according to the actual settings of the device).

• Add an IP/DDNS Device:

• Manually enter the device ‘IP/DDNS + port + channel number’, select ‘type’ according to the actual situation of the device, and click OK.

5.2 Modify Device

• Device Modification: In the device management or preview interface, after selecting the device and clicking Modify, the device interface will be loaded.

• Regional Modification: In the modify device interface, click the area drop-down box.

• Group Modification: After selecting the group under the device management interface, click the modify button to load the modified group information interface.

Note: Modify the channel name, panorama, and channel type corresponding to the channel number in the device. The panorama or channel type corresponding to each serial number is independent. The channel device in the device needs to be in the panoramic state. You can select the corresponding channel serial number to modify the panorama and channel type.

5.3 Remote Setting

5.3.1 VR CAM/Gateway Remote Setting

Setup Steps:

1.Selected device

2.Click Settings / Connect Device and click the Remote Settings button (as shown in Figure 1)

• Device Information: Content includes device model, device ID, OEM serial number, firmware version (providing check updates).

• Function Setting: The audio, prompt tone, prompt language, and display mode and resolution can be set on the configuration.

• Alarm System: The content includes motion detection, message push, motion detection sensitivity, and synchronization time function. If daylight saving time setting is available, you can set daylight saving time.

• TF Card Settings: TF card status, available / total capacity, TF card formatting function

• Alarm message push is not supported in local login. You need to check to switch to cloud login status.

• Currently supports VR CAM/gateway devices for remote setup.

5.3.2 D82 Series NVR Remote Setting

Setup Steps:

1.Selected device

2.Click Settings / Connect Device and click the Remote Settings button

• General Settings: Set the device’s time zone, date format, date, time, button sound, OSD transparency, VGA resolution.

• Channel Setting:

• Coding Settings: Can set the encoding mode of each channel, the resolution of the primary and secondary streams, the code stream control, the code stream rate, the video frame rate, and the encoding format.

• Color Adjustment: The tone, contrast, brightness, and saturation of each channel can be adjusted and copied to other channels.

• Channel OSD: The title, display status, and communication quality of each channel can be modified.

• Video Detection: Each channel alarm duration, detection type, sensitivity, whether to enable various alarm information push, detection area selection, deployment time selection can be modified, and can be copied to other channels.

• Code Stream Value: Monitor real-time stream for each channel.

• Channel Details: View the primary stream, secondary stream, and software version for each channel.

• Recording Settings: You can set the recording type and time of each channel. There are three types of timing, movement, and alarm.

• Network Settings:

• Network Settings: You can modify whether to use DHCP. If you choose No, you can modify the IP address, subnet mask, gateway, DNS address, and WEB port of the NVR.

• Dynamic Domain Name: You can modify whether to use DDNS. If yes, you can modify the provider, domain name, username, password.

• PPPOE: Select whether to enable PPPOE. If yes, you can modify the PPPOE protocol, username, and password. You can view the PPPOE status and PPPOE IP address.

• Wireless Setting: Can view ESSID, modify Wireless Channel, area.

• System Settings:

• Device Information: View device name, device model, device serial number, software version, release time, cloud ID.

• Log Information: Select the input type, start time, and end time and click Search to display the log number, time, and content that meet the conditions.

• User Management: Display serial number, username, whether it is super user, create new user, edit user, delete user, change password.

• Factory Settings: Choose simple restore (ignore channel and network configuration), restore all (restore all configurations).

• Online Upgrade: Select the local upgrade file and click on Upgrade Firmware.

5.4 Device Grouping

• Create a Group:

1.Click the ‘Create Group’ button.

2.Enter the content in the group name box and click OK.

• Add Channel:

6. User Parameter

6.1 Basic Settings

• Split Screen Number: The selected split screen number is displayed after re-login. The CMS provides split screen options in 1, 4, 6, 8, 9, 16, 25, 36, and 49 forms.

• Display Language: CMS currently defaults to 9 display languages, such as Simplified Chinese and English. When you choose to log in again, it will switch to the corresponding language.

• Login Method: The cloud login mode is online. You need to connect to the external network when you log in. The local login does not have this requirement.

• List Style: The list style includes tree shape and graphics. The replacement is only in the real-time preview interface and the display of the device list under the playback interface. The device list under other interfaces is unified into the tree list style.

• Path Modification:

1.Screenshot Path: The screenshot file is saved in the snapshot folder by default and can be saved in other paths according to your needs.

2.Local Recording Path: The local recording file is saved in the record folder by default and can be saved in other paths according to your needs.

3.Video Download Path: The files downloaded by the playback video are saved in the video_download folder by default and can be saved in other paths according to your needs.

• Preview Sync Time: Check the time when the device is previewed, and the computer will be automatically synchronized (only IPC is supported).

Note: After modifying the settings, click “Finish,” and you will need to log in again. (It is best not to modify it to a directory containing Chinese.)

6.2 Advanced Settings

• Time Zone Setting: The local time zone can be selected according to the actual situation.

• Automatic Lock: Check the auto lock and enter the integer in minutes in the time frame. If no operation is performed on the CMS within the input time, the CMS will automatically lock.

• Automatically Connect Video: After logging in to the auto-connect video, log in to the CMS and automatically connect to the device added to the device list. The number of connected channels is the number of split screens in the basic settings.

7. More Features

7.1 User Management

• New User:

1.Click New User.

2.Enter username (required) + note name (optional).

3.Click to confirm.

• Modify Permissions:

• Default: The default permissions include screenshot, video, PTZ settings, video playback, and remote download.

• Modify:

1.Click edit permission.

2.Check the permissions and devices/channels that need to be assigned to new users (you can click to select all).

3.Click to confirm.

• Other Functions:

1.Clear Password: If the login password of the new user is forgotten, you can log in to the newly created user again by directly clearing the password, and the internal setting data can be retained.

2.Modify the Note: Add a note, change the note, or delete the note, go to the modify note operation.

3.Delete User: If you feel that the newly created user is not necessary, click delete user to delete the user.

7.2 Log Query

7.4 System Info

• Version Information: The content is displayed as follows: ‘version number, date’.

• Change Password:

1.Enter ‘original password + new password + confirm new password’.

2.Click to confirm.

3.Re-login to verify the password.

• Sign Out: Click the ‘Exit Login’ button to quit the login status of the current account.

8. Frequently Asked Questions

Question One: After installation, open the CMS and display “Cannot load plugin”?

Answer One:

1.Please confirm whether the installation path uses Chinese when installing, as the plugin is temporarily not compatible with Chinese paths.

2.After confirming the non-Chinese path, if the problem persists, you can contact technical support for assistance.

Question Two: After connecting multiple channels of video (more than 30 channels), videos stop for a few seconds, all channels are automatically disconnected into the black screen. The device connected again has no response. Do we need to restart the CMS?

Answer Two: The new version of CMS3.0.1 runs with higher memory. If you connect many channels using a lower configuration computer, the computer system will run out of memory, causing the CMS to run abnormally. If the computer configuration is slightly lower, it is recommended not to connect too many channels. Optimization work has been planned for this situation.

Question Three: When CMS is installed on the OSX system, it displays “File is corrupted” or “Unable to open” when it is opened?

Answer Three:

1.Open “System Settings” → “Security and Privacy” → “Allow applications to be downloaded from the following location”, check “any source” (applies to versions prior to OSX10.12.X).

2.Open “Terminal”, enter the string “sudo spctl –master-disable”, press the “Enter” key, enter the sudo password (applies to versions after OSX10.12.X). If the above method still does not work, please contact us to help you solve it.

Question Four: After starting a window and flashing, it will not start or XP will appear. Open the software to indicate 0a00000000 memory referenced by 0x00000000 instruction. The memory cannot be ‘written’.

Answer Four: This is likely a video card driver problem. Updating the graphics card driver can solve it.

Question Five: It shows mfc100u.dll lost when opening computer.

How to use Webcam on Surveillance Station on QNAP NAS? This tutorial is only for QUSBCam. QNAP has released QUSBCam2, an app that allows USB cameras to be used as remotely manageable IP (ONVIF) cameras. QNAP recommends using QUSBCam2 to reduce CPU usage, improve system stability, and simplify your surveillance setup.

Overview

Video surveillance systems can sometimes be too expensive and difficult to maintain for general home users. By supporting webcam monitoring & recording, QNAP Turbo NAS offers an affordable and easy-to-use option for home and small office security. The Surveillance Station app on Turbo NAS is capable of 24/7 recording, taking screenshots, and allows you to remotely view live video streams and recorded files anytime, anywhere.

Webcam surveillance requirements

You will need a webcam with a built-in UVC (USB Video Class) driver. You may refer to the following lists for compatible webcams:

1.These third-party sources should be used for reference only. QNAP cannot guarantee their full compatibility.

2.Supported resolutions and framerate are automatically detected based on the webcam hardware. The maximum resolution will always be used.

• ARM-based Turbo NAS: 640×480, 320×240, or 160×120 at 2FPS

• x86-based Turbo NAS: 960×720, 640×480, 320×240, or 160×120 at 5FPS

Configure Surveillance Station for webcam recording

1. Connect a USB webcam

Connect a USB webcam to a USB port on the Turbo NAS. If the webcam is supported, it will be listed as a log showing a generic UVC camera in “Control Panel” > “System Settings” > “System Logs” on the NAS.

2. Install the QUSBCam QPKG from App Center (either Automatically or Manually)

Automatic installation: Install the QPKG from “App Center” > “Surveillance” > “QUSBCam” of the NAS.

Manual installation: Download the QUSBCam QPKG from the App Center on the QNAP website. Then you can install it by clicking the “Install Manually” button and by selecting the location of the QUSBCam QPKG to start installing.

3. Configure webcam in QUSBCam

First, open “QUSBCam”.

4. Configure Surveillance Station

a. Install Surveillance Station

• Auto installation: Go to “App Center” > “Surveillance” > “Surveillance Station” and click “Add to QTS” to start installation.

• Manual installation: Download the Surveillance Station QPKG from the App Center on the QNAP website. Then you can install it by clicking the “Install Manually” button and by selecting the location of the Surveillance Station QPKG to start installing.

Please note: To ensure proper operations of Surveillance Station, we recommend rebooting the Turbo NAS after its installation is completed.

b. Configure the webcam on Surveillance Station with required settings: (Please check the detailed settings in QUSBCam, “HTTP URL” may vary by different situation.)

Please note: Before applying new settings, you can click “Test” on the right to check that the connection to your webcam is successful.

After you have added the USB webcam camera to your Turbo NAS, go to the “Monitor” page. If it is your first time accessing this page in your web browser, you will have to install an ActiveX control (QMon.cab) before using Monitor or Playback functions. Please follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. You can use Surveillance Station in Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

1. Drag and drop camera(s) from the server/camera tree to the respective playback window(s) to select the channel(s) for playback.

2. Select a playback date using You can examine each channel to discover the time range when files were recorded using each camera. Blue cells indicate regular recording files. If it is blank, it means that no files were recorded at that time.

3. Click to begin playback. You can control the speed and playback direction by dragging the buttonto left or right of the shuttle bar.

4. Specify the time to play back the recording files. You can view a preview image on the timeline bar to search for the moment you want to play.

5. Click to control all the playback windows to play back the recording files. When this function is enabled, the playback options (play, pause, stop, previous/next frame, previous/next file, speed adjustment) will be applied to all of the playback windows.

How to View a Live Stream on QUSBCam2

1.Install USB Camera
After connecting the USB camera to the NAS, the USB camera appears on the USB Device page.

2.Set as channel
After installing the USB camera, go to Channel List and click “Create Channel” to create a QUSBCam2 channel.

Set the channel name and video or audio configuration.
Note: Only MJPEG format supports the live function.

3.Check the Channel List
Go to Channel List and check if the thumbnail image of the USB camera is available. If you see the live button, it means that the camera supports the live function.

Configure Surveillance Station for Webcam Recording

Go to “Surveillance Station” > “Camera Configuration” and then click “Add”. Select “Search camera(s) automatically” and then click “Next”.

For Search type, select “ONVIF” and then select the QUSBCam2 camera. Click “OK”.

Surveillance Station automatically completes the camera information except for the user name and password. Use the same login credentials for the NAS that you are using.

Note: Before applying the new settings, you can click “Test” to check the connection to your QUSBCam2 camera.

The working fan indicates that the trapped heat is being dissipated, and the DVR can record 24/7 on the hard drive, and without this cooling mechanism, the DVR and hard drive’s life span will be shortened.

How to add IP Camera to Camius DVR (Advanced Security XVR)

Camius Trivault DVR recorders are designed to support analog security cameras via coaxial wiring and IP cameras over the Network. To add an IP camera to Camius DVR, you’d need to add PoE cameras to your local Network. Then, connect a regular network or PoE switch to the LAN port of the Camius DVR. Based on the example of a Camius 16-channel DVR, the connecting diagram illustrates this process. This system allows users to quickly and seamlessly integrate analog and IP cameras, providing greater flexibility in security camera selection.

If you are not using a PoE (power-over-ethernet) switch or a PoE injector, you can power the IP camera by connecting a UL-listed 12VDC-2AMP power supply to the DC plug on the camera and an ethernet cable between the IP camera and the router or switch on your local network.

Navigate to the DVR’s Menu >> System >> General >> Mode >> Set to XVR and Apply.

Wait 1 to 2 minutes for the surveillance DVR to reboot in a hybrid XVR mode. This switch will reset the Configuration and Password.

There are a few ways to add IP cameras to the DVR, and we will describe them below.

Adding IP Cameras in the Start Wizard

While in the Start Wizard, navigate to the Network>> Date/Time >> IP Cameras.

Click the Search button to add compatible IP cameras on your local Network. Next, select the IP camera(s) you want to add, and then click the arrow icon to add them to the DVR, followed by the Next button.

Select the suitable Protocol from the dropdown (Private is for Camius IP cameras), enter the IP camera(s) credentials (User Name and Password), and click Add. Green status indicates a successful connection; grey status could show a password or network error.

If you add IP cameras to DVR’s menu, navigate to Channel >> IP Channels.

Select the IP camera you wish to add, click the ‘Add‘ tab or use a plus button.

The ‘Add IP camera‘ window will pop up with IP camera details.

• In the Alias name, you can set the IP camera name as you’d like to see, e.g., you can change it to ‘Front Door,’ which will be reflected in the Camius View app and push notifications.

• Select the Protocol of the IP camera from the dropdown menu (Private is used for Camius IP cameras)

• Enter the Password. Please note if the Camius IP camera’s Activate State shows ‘Activated,’ it means the IP camera has a set password. Inactivated Camius IP cameras do not have a set password. If you forgot your IP camera’s password, you could reset it using a reset button following this guide.

• Select the channel number you wish to display and click the Add button.

Once the IP camera is added to the DVR, it will appear under the IP channel list. The green state means the camera has been added successfully. A grey color state means the IP camera needs attention, and when you click on the state icon, it will indicate if the error is caused by a wrong IP camera username/password or if it has a network issue.

To avoid network issues, make sure that your camera, DVR, and router are on the same IP address segment, e.g.

• Your IP camera has the IP address 192.168.254.2

• Then your router and DVR must have IP addresses starting with 192.168.254.x

• You can also set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0

In addition, Camius Hybrid 8-Channel DVR recorders support up to 12 and 16-channel DVRs and up to 24 HD cameras, making a scalable solution for residential and commercial surveillance needs.

It is important to note that the cameras’ quality will significantly impact the system’s overall performance and effectiveness. Of course, high-quality cameras will provide better images, enabling more effective monitoring and surveillance, but also, Camius IP cameras offer intelligent motion, sound, and AI detection. Other manufacturers’ IP cameras are usually limited to basic video motion detection.

How to install a hard drive in a Camius DVR or NVR?

Installing a hard drive in a DVR (digital video recorder) or an NVR (network video recorder) (DVR NVR for short) is a relatively straightforward process. Still, it is essential to follow the steps carefully to ensure proper installation and prevent damage to the equipment. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to install a hard drive in your surveillance DVR or NVR recorder.

Camius network and hybrid digital video recorders accept 3.5″ and 2.5″ SSD internal hard drive disks. While 8 channel DVR and NVR recorders accept a single hard drive up to 10 TB in capacity, 16-channel DVR and NVR recording, along with 32-channel NVR will support a 14TB hard drive on each SATA port.

1 – Gather Tools and Equipment

You will need a Phillips head screwdriver, the hard drive you want to install, and any necessary screws (when you order a DVR or NVR from Camius without a pre-installed hard drive, the product box will include a set of screws for the hard drive disk installation).

2 – IMPORTANT: Make sure your DVR / NVR is unplugged and powered off

3 – Removing the Top Cover or the Video Recorder

Remove any screws from the Recorder’s top cover (chassis) using a Philips head screwdriver. Carefully remove the top chassis and set it aside (picture 1)

4 – Insert the Hard Drive

Place the hard drive into the hard drive bay, ensuring the drive is oriented correctly and appropriately seated.

5 – Connect the SATA Data and Power Cables

Connect the Data and Power cables to the two hard disk drives and place the hard disk drives on the video recorder’s case. The Data cable connects the hard drive to the DVR NVR’s motherboard. Locate the SATA port on the DVR’s motherboard and connect one end of the SATA cable to it. Then, connect the other end of the cable to the hard drive. The SATA Power cable provides power to the hard drive. Locate the SATA Power cable and connect one end to the hard drive and another to the Power Supply (pictures 2 and 3)

6 – Secure the hard drive with srews

Carefully flip the video recorder case and secure the hard disk drives to the recorder with the four (4) screws if it is one SATA HDD (pictures 4 and 5) and eight (8) screws for the 2 SATA HDDs (picture 6)

7 – Return the DVR NVR top cover

8 – Power on the DVR NVR

Power on the DVR NVR and allow it to boot up completely. If the hard drive was installed correctly and is in working condition, it should be recognized by the DVR and ready for use. Remember to format the hard drive (here is the guide on how to format the hard drive). Ensure that you use the power supply with the Camius video recorder.

IMPORTANT: Some users may find an issue when the hard drive is not recognized or not showing on the DVR. One of the primary reasons could be a wrong or defective recorder’s power supply.

That’s it! Your DVR NVR should now have a new hard drive installed, allowing it to store more video footage. Follow these steps carefully and seek additional assistance if you encounter any difficulties.

How to adjust my DVR NVR monitor resolution?

Camius video surveillance DVR NVR camera recorders have HDMI and VGA video output to live video feed on your monitor.

VGA output supports a max resolution of 1080p, while the HDMI video output 4K video resolution. So if the monitor you use with the Camius DVR or NVR recorder is capable of 4K and the camera, you can view live videos in 4K.

Two ways to adjust the DVR NVR monitor resolution

You can adjust the DVR NVR monitor resolution in the Wizard Setup mode or by navigating to Setup >> System >> General >> Output Configuration.

While in ‘Wizard Setup’ mode, choose an output resolution that matches your monitor. The DVR should adjust the output resolution automatically to match the best resolution of your monitor at the system startup.

Please note that some legacy monitors could fail to communicate their acceptable resolution. In this case, please manually plug the video surveillance DVR into a newer monitor and change the resolution to the lowest setting, then save and plug the older monitor back to see if it’s supported.

After completing the Start Wizard, you can further adjust the Display Output Resolution using the following Menu Path: Setup – System – General – Output Configuration.

Select the output resolution suitable for your TV/Monitor. 1080P(1920 x 1080) will suit most monitors. If your DVR supports 4K output resolution, you can select either 2K (2560 x 1440) or 4K (3840 x 2160) to take advantage of the higher resolution that your 4K TV provides.

You can also adjust the size & position of the display screen to match your monitor/TV by using the ‘Scale and Offset’ feature; click the tab ‘Setup,’ which allows you to:

• Scale is to adjust the size of the displayed screen by scale.

• X Offset is to move the displayed screen to the left or right.

•

• Y Offset is to move the displayed screen up or down.

Click once or long-press the left button of your mouse on the arrow to adjust the size and position, or you can scroll the supplied USB mouse’s wheel to adjust. Click the right button of your mouse to exit, and click Apply to save your modifications.

How to reset the DVR and NVR video recorder to default factory settings

To reset DVR or NVR to default settings, navigate to the left bottom of the screen to the main menu. Select Setup >> System >> Maintenance >> Load Default

Here you can select the setting you wish to set to default. If you do not wish to reset the password, do not check the System boxes. Please note Load Default settings do not format your hard drive.

You’d need to enter the system password in the Authentication pop-up window (picture 1), which will lead to restarting your recorder (picture 2).

Navigate to Setup >> System >> Maintenance >> Reset Settings (Picture 3), where you can not select settings to reset so that it will reset your system completely, including the login credentials. You can choose ‘Format HDD‘ if you wish to format your hard drive, leading to erasing any recorded footage.

How to change your DVR and NVR password and add a user

You can update the ‘admin’ password by clicking the ‘User Edit’ button. You will need the admin’s current password to authenticate the new password.

Camius NVR and DVR recorder have an advanced user management feature to add multiple users to the system and control their permissions. System administration (admin) can add users, edit their permissions and delete them.

Navigate to the Main Menu in the bottom left corner, select System >> Multi-User (picture 1)

Click on the Edit icon in the User Edit column and select ‘Enable‘ in the User Enable tab. You can change the User Name or keep it as ‘user1‘. Create the new user password, confirm it, and click on the ‘Save‘ tab (pictures 2 and 3)

Then click the gear icon in the last Permission column to open the User Permission dialogue. Select (tick checkbox) the permissions you wish to grant to the new user. Click Save (picture 4)

How to troubleshoot if my DVR is not powering on?

If you’re having trouble with your DVR not powering on, here are some recommended troubleshooting steps:

Step 1 – Check the LEDs on the front panel, a steady green LED (PWR) means your DVR is powered on normally, and a blinking red LED (HDD) means ongoing recording on the hard drive.

Step 2 – Check the sounds coming out of your recorder. A faint fan sound and a faint hard drive sound are normal, and a click sound when you plug in the DC connector and turn on the switch is typical.

Step 3 – If you have the green LED on but no output on the monitor, follow these steps:

• Replace your monitor/TV with another (newer preferred) monitor, and change the HDMI cable.

• Remove the hard drive (while the DVR is powered off)

• Disconnect all wires except the power, HDMI, and mouse, and then power-cycle the recorder.

• Once your recorder starts normally, plug your cameras back in.

• If one of the camera cables resulted in powering down the recorder, unplug it and check the power supply on the camera in question.

Step 4 – Check the power outlet and the power supply unit of the DVR. If the power supply doesn’t have any LED indicator or the LED light is very faint and not bright green, and there is no fan sound coming from the DVR, the power supply may need replacement. If your DVR has running hardware warranty, please contact us. If the DVR is covered with warranty, you can order a new power supply on Camius site.

Why can’t I access my Camius IP cameras, DVR, and NVR on my Camius View app?

If you can not access your Camius IP cameras, DVR (digital video recorder), or NVR (network video recorder) on the Camius View smartphone app, please check the below:

1 – Check if you are using the latest version of the Camius View app

On the App’s ‘Devices‘ page, make sure your recorder is added using P2P (ID) instead of IP (IP Address), and if in doubt, delete it and add it again.

In the Media Port, make sure to enter the right port number:

• Use port 80 for R-series recorders and IP cameras

• Port 9000 for the non-R series is required

2 – Make sure you’re connected to a reliable network on your phone

3 – Check if your Camius IP camera or recorder is connected correctly to the LAN (Local network).

• Camius devices are picked up by the Camius Device Search Tool, Camius View app, and VMS software.

• Go through the following steps to make sure your Camius device (IP camera, DVR or NVR) is connected to the network: Camius Device and PC you are using must have the same first three segments of the IP address

• Install the Camius device config tool to search for any Camius device

• Here is the link to download and install the Device Search Tool for Windows PC or Mac computer).

• Once you are running the tool, search for Camius devices, and if the device is online (connected to your network), it will appear like in the following picture.

4 – Check for the IP address conflict

• Connect your Camius device in a simple setup, ensuring your network cables are not defective and eliminating any in-between devices that might be causing IP address conflict.

• A simple setup could have just a DVR with the network cable connected to the network switch or router and a PC connected via network cable to the same router while all sharing the same IP base e.g., 192.168.1.x

5 – Reset the Network settings of your Camius device

Navigate to Setup >> System >> Maintenance >> Load Default >> check the Network box and Apply

Navigate to Setup >> System >> Information and check the Network Status if it shows ‘Connect success’.

How to disable menu logout on the DVR and NVR?

Certain Camius device users prefer to remain logged into the menu of their DVR or NVR without re-entering their login credentials unless necessary. To achieve this, you can follow the steps outlined in this guide.

Move the mouse cursor to the bottom left, and click the main menu button: Setup >> System >> General >> Menu Timeouts >> Off >> Apply.

Optionally, you can set a different time for menu log-out as well. This guide applies to Camius NVR and DVR recorders.

It’s important to note that the web browsers will log you out of the session after some time (even if you set the number of sessions), as this function is implemented by the web browsers to enhance security.

To assist you in managing your login details more conveniently, consider using a password manager such as LastPass or similar services with browser extensions available. These services can help you securely store your login information (such as IP address, username, and password) and provide easy access even after your browser session expires.

You can also use VMS software on your desktop to add the DVR using a P2P ID and access the DVR’s ‘Remote Setting’ within the VMS; follow this guide on how to add the DVR to the software.

How to add IP cameras on a network that are not connected directly to the NVR’s PoE ports?

For the PoE-enabled NVR, connect Camius IP cameras via the internal NVR’s PoE ports and/or external LAN (WAN) port using the below-described model 2 or 3:
.

• Mode-1 By connecting it to the PoE port on your Camius Network Video Recorder (recommended for Camius PoE cameras)

• Mode-2 By connecting it to a PoE switch or a PoE injector on your network.

• Mode-3 By using a 12VDC 1-2A power supply.

Camius PoE NVR is optimized for Camius PoE cameras making the whole setup process plug-and-play; the NVR assign a unique IP address to each Camius PoE camera and adds them automatically.

NOTE: Connecting multiple cameras via a switch or router to the PoE port is not recommended. One PoE port supports one IP camera.

The below steps are based on the NVR’s local interface via HDMI video output. Navigate the mouse to the screen’s left bottom corner and click on Setup, followed by Channel >> IP Channels.

In the below menu, you configure the connection of wired IP cameras.

Click Search to search for IP cameras from a local network, click Add to add an individual IP camera, and click Add All to add all IP cameras.

Below we will describe a few ways to add IP cameras from a local network using an external LAN (WAN) port.

IP channels menu description:

• Switch Mode: Auto Mode supports Plug & Play connection via PoE port. To add the camera(s) manually, change the Mode to Manual.

• PoE Mode: Auto Mode limits the maximum bandwidth to 100Mbps, and EPOE mode limits the maximum bandwidth to 10Mbps. In case of a connection problem with Auto mode, when the IP camera is powered by PoE via an RJ45 cable longer than 100 meters, change to EPOE mode for a stable connection.

• Edit: To edit the Switch Mode, PoE Mode, network parameters, username, and password for the individual camera (click the ‘Edit’ icon to open the ‘Edit Connection Information’ window)

• State: Shows the connection status of the camera

• Auto Assign IP to Camera(s): The added IP camera would not connect if its IP address is not in the same network segment as NVR. With this function, reassign an IP address to all added IP cameras.

• Channel Delete: Choose one or more added IP cameras, and click this button to delete

• Default Password: To configure the default user name and password of Private, Onvif, and RTSP protocol connection.

Select the suitable Protocol from the dropdown (Private is for Camius IP cameras), enter the IP camera(s) credentials (User Name and Password), and click Add. Green status indicates a successful connection; grey status could show a password or network error.

Green color State means the camera is added to the NVR

Grey color state icon means the IP camera failed to connect to the NVR. Click the gray icon to show the failure reason:

• If the failure is “User name or password error“, the camera user name and password are different from the default user name and password.

• If the failure is “Failed to connect to the camera, please check the network connection“, it means the network parameter might be incorrect or incompatible with the Onvif protocol.

Option 1 – Adding IP Cameras to the NVR within the LAN (local area network )

If you want to connect to an IP camera from LAN (Local Area Network), please make sure your NVR is well-connected to the LAN and the IP camera you want to add is in the same network segment as your NVR.

If you want to add all channels manually, click the dropdown arrow next to Switch Mode and select “Manual.”

If you want to add an individual channel manually, click the Edit Pencil-shaped icon in the Channel list, and then click the drop-down arrow next to Switch Mode to select “Manual” and click OK to save.

Option 2 – Adding an individual IP camera in the LAN (Local Network area)

STEP 1- Click the Search button; all available cameras in the LAN will be displayed,

Optionally you click the Add plus-shaped green icon in the IP channels list to add a camera to an individual channel. Click the Search button to show all available cameras in the LAN.

STEP 2 – Select the camera you want to add and then click Add button. Next, insert the user name and password of the camera and click Add button.

• Alias: To define the camera ID you want to display in the live view screen.

• Port: Camera communication port. Do not change the number if you’re not a professional.

• Protocol: To select the connection protocol: Private protocol is used for Camius IP cameras; for non-Camius cameras, use Onvif if applicable or RTSP.

• Bind channel: To determine which channel you want to add the camera

STEP 3 – You will see the added camera in the IP channels list

Option 3 – Add Multiple IP Cameras within the LAN

STEP 1- Click the Search button to display all available cameras in the LAN click Add All button, and the NVR will search & add all available cameras in the LAN.

STEP 2 – Select the cameras from the search result and click “Add.” You would need to input the username and password of the cameras. Please ensure all the cameras you want to add use the same username and password. Otherwise, the cameras with different user names and passwords cannot connect.

STEP 3 – The added cameras will show up in the channel list.

Option 4 – Add IP Cameras from another NVR in the same LAN (Local Area Network)

The NVR allows adding IP cameras from other Camius NVRs in the local network.

STEP 1 – Click the Search button to display all available devices in the LAN. There is an Edit icon (blue plus) if the device is an NVR.

STEP 2 – Click the Edit icon (blue plus) and select the camera channels one by one or check the box to select all cameras. Click the icon X to go back to the Search list.

STEP 3 – Select the NVR in the search list and click the Add button.

STEP 4 – Input the Username and Password of the NVR and then click Add button

STEP 5 – The added cameras will be displayed in the channel list

Option 5 – Add IP Cameras from the Internet

If your NVR is connected to the Internet, you can add cameras with a WAN (Wide Area Network) IP address.

STEP 1 – Click Add button on the search page.

STEP 2 – Input the IP address or Domain name, Alias (name of the IP camera), Port, Protocol (choose the protocol of the IP camera from the dropdown menu: Private, Onvif or RTSP), User Name & Password of the IP camera.Tap the Add button to add the camera.

To avoid network issues, make sure that your camera, NVR, and router are on the same IP address segment, e.g.

• Your IP camera has the IP address 192.168.254.2

• Then your router and DVR must have IP addresses starting with 192.168.254.x

Click on the Camius NVR or DVR’s local IP or type it into your browser’s address bar. The latest Camius surveillance security camera recorders work with multiple web browsers, including Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Edge, and Safari, and include the following models:

Use your admin username and DVR or NVR password to log in. Your recorder’s Configuration is under Remote Settings.

You can check the ‘Web Compatibility Mode‘ in the Camius NVR/DVR and even IP camera settings (this can be done from the Camius recorder’s local user interface (Via HDMI/VGA) and in the web browser viewer.

[Linux-based NVRs] How to upgrade the ND-series NVR?

Enhancing the functionality and security of your ND/NV-Series NVR is crucial, and firmware upgrades play a pivotal role in this process. Please follow the steps below to upgrade the ND/NV-Series NVR:

Before starting the upgrade, it’s recommended to back up your current settings and data to prevent any potential loss.

Step 1. Search for your NVR model on the VIVOTEK official website: https://www.vivotek.com/.

Step 2. Click on the webpage of your specific NVR model.

Step 3. Select ‘Downloads’ to find and download the latest firmware version (for example, ND9425P, as shown in the picture).

Step 4. After downloading, unzip the file to find a .img file.

Step 5. To update the firmware, access the NVR and import the .img file via Settings > System > Maintenance > Update Firmware.

There are two ways to access the NVR: via a Web console or a Local console. Please choose the appropriate method for accessing your NVR.

Web console

Navigate to Settings > System > Maintenance > Update Firmware and follow the previously mentioned steps.

Local console

Firstly, place the .img file on a USB drive and insert it into the NVR.

The NVR backup file contains the device configuration files, usually this file is exported as a security measure in case the device needs to be reset to defaults and then be restored with a predetermined configuration or previous configuration. This file can also be used by VIVOTEK Technical Support in case they require to reproduce an issue (using the same configuration parameters). In order to export the backup file of the ND/NV-Series NVR please follow the next guide:

The original iDVR-PRO series includes the iDVR-PRO8 and iDVR-PRO16 which are analog CCTV DVRs (no HD security camera support). The latest iDVR-PRO hybrid HD security camera DVRs and come in an “A”, “M”, and “H” series and support AHD and TVI type cameras (up to 1080p resolution). Before the hybrid versions were released, the “A” and “H” series was also available in a 960H analog format version. The 960H models and the new hybrid HD iDVR-PROs use a new and improved user interface, however, all 4 series (the original iDVR-PRO, A, and H series) use the same client applications (DVR viewer software apps) for iOS, Android, Mac, and Windows.

This article covers the initial configuration setup that is recommended before getting into any other advanced setup of your new CCTV DVR.

Here are the setup topics that are covered in this article in the order they should be performed.

Connect Monitor, Power Supply, USB Mouse

After you unpack your new DVR, locate the power supply and USB mouse that is included. Connect the mouse to the USB port on the front or back of the DVR. The USB mouse is the easiest way to navigate the user interface of the DVR. You can also use the IR remote control if you prefer. Please note that a wireless remote is not included with iDVR-PROA models.

Next, connect a monitor to your DVR. Even if you do not plan on keeping a monitor connected to your DVR because you will manage your DVR over your network, the initial setup still requires a monitor to be connected.

Supported Monitors

Please note that all iDVR-PROs models have an HDMI and VGA monitor ports. YOU MUST use a widescreen format HD monitor that supports one of the following video resolutions.

• 1920 x 1080

• 1280 x 720

• 1280 x 1024

1080p resolution (1920 x 1080) is recommended for the best experience.

Connect the power supply included with your DVR to the power input on the back of the DVR, then to a power source (wall outlet). The DVR will boot up.

Test Cameras Before Installing

If you are using any new cameras with your iDVR, we highly recommend bench testing them before you mount them. What does bench testing mean? It simply means that you connect each camera to a power supply and monitor before you mount them. This can be accomplished by connecting each camera to your DVR and viewing them on the monitor that you connected to your DVR.

Testing your cameras before installation has the following benefits.

 Confirm all cameras are working properly before mounting them.

 Opportunity to also test all of your cables if you are using premade CCTV cables.

 Configure video inputs on DVR for CCTV. AHD, or HD-TVI type cameras (details below).

 If any of your cameras use an OSD or varifocal lens, it gives you the opportunity to get familiar with these operations, which is much easier to do on the ground rather than up on a ladder.

Time / Date Setup

It is important to set up the time, date, and timezone of your DVR before you begin recording operations. Otherwise, you will be unable to figure out the true time that an event occurred. Follow these steps to set up the time and date on your DVR.

1.Using the USB mouse, click on the menu button and select System Setup.

2.From the System menu, select Time / Date.

3.On the time / date setup screen, select your correct time, date, and time zone.

4.You can also choose to have your DVR’s time and date automatically synchronized with an online time service.

5.When you are done, click Apply, then Close.

Surveillance DVR Dual Monitor / Spot Monitor Live Display Setup

for iDVR-PRO HD / CCTV Camera DVRs

This article will go over how to set up the dual monitor / spot monitor feature for iDVR-PRO HD surveillance DVRs. All iDVR-PROs have high definition HDMI and VGA outputs. iDVR-PRO A models only support dual monitor mode. The iDVR-PRO H series DVRs support dual monitor and spot monitor modes. In spot monitor mode, can use the HDMI output as the main monitor and VGA as a spot monitor or vice versa. This is a good solution for users that need to see a continuous live view their security cameras on one monitor and use the other monitor for DVR management such as general viewing, playback, settings, etc. You can watch a demo video here.

Dual Monitor

In dual monitor mode, both the HDMI and VGA outputs the main display (mirror mode). Dual monitor mode is supported by A and H model iDVR-PROs.

Spot Monitor

iDVR-PRO8H and iDVR-PRO16H models support spot monitor mode, in addition to dual monitor. This allows one monitor to display a customizable continuous live video feed, while the other monitor displays the main monitor for DVR operations such as configuration and recorded video playback.

HD Spot Monitor Setup

Follow these instructions to select between dual monitor and spot monitor modes.

1. By default, the iDVR-PROM and H series DVRs are to set to output duplicate displays on both the VGA and HDMI outputs.

To set up one of the displays as a spot monitor, select Menu > System Setup > Display > Dual Monitor.

Next, change the Display Mode from Duplicate These Displays to Main Monitor + Spot.

Once we have it set to Main Monitor + Spot, to the Display Type and set which monitor you would like to run as the Main Monitor and select which you would like to use as the Spot.

NOTE: We recommend keeping the Display Resolution set to Auto. This way it picks up the best resolution for your monitor’s spec.

2. Next, you can setup custom display screens and camera ordering for the Spot Monitor display. Click the Edit button next to Spot. You can now select the Add View Type button to select the cameras you would like to display on the Spot monitor. You may configure up to 16 displays that consist of single, quad, 9 channel, and 16 camera screen views.

Once you have the cameras / views setup, you can select the Apply button. That is it, you have successfully setup the iDVR-PRO DVR to run Dual Monitors.

Legacy Model Spot Monitor Support

Our legacy, non HD iDVR-PRO models (analog CCTV only), use an analog BNC output for the spot monitor. You can refer to this article for analog spot Monitor Output Setup information.

Surveillance Video Recording Setup for iDVR-PRO HD H.264 CCTV DVRs

Follow these instructions to set up the surveillance video recording type for iDVR-PRO HD security camera / H.264 DVRs from CCTV Camera Pros.

Recording Modes

iDVR-PRO CCTV DVRs support the following recording modes.

• Continuous Recording – records around the clock 24 hours per day.

• Scheduled Recording – records continuously according to a set schedule.

• Motion Detection Recording – records when motion is detected by a camera.

• Alarm – records when an external alarm is triggered.

• Motion / Alarm – records when motion is detected or when an alarm is triggered

• Intensive Motion – records continuously and when motion is detected (user can set up different frame rates and resolutions)

• Intensive Alarm – records continuously and when an alarm is triggered (user can set up different frame rates and resolutions)

• Intensive Motion / Alarm – records continuously and when motion is detected or an alarm is triggered (user can set up different frame rates and resolutions)

• Panic Recording – triggered when a user presses the panic button on the DVR. It causes the DVR to record continuously on all cameras.

Setup Instructions

To configure the recording mode that you want to use, hover the mouse cursor over the lower part of the screen. The DVR main menu will appear. Click Menu > Record Setup.

The following screen will be displayed which shows all of the recording modes that the DVR supports.

If you want to set up a recording schedule for continuous, motion, or alarm based recording, you must click the drop-down box on the above screen and change the mode from autoconfiguration to manual configuration. Autoconfiguration sets all cameras to record at the max resolution and frame rate for continuous, motion, and alarm type of recording.

If you select manual configuration, you can set different choose a different frame rate, resolution, and video quality / compression for each camera (even for different time frames). Using the mouse, select the recording type that you want to set up.

Continuous Recording

If you select manual configuration then continuous recording, the following screen is displayed which lets you setup unique configurations for each camera and you can also click on the schedule tab to set a schedule for when each camera will record continuously (effectively making this scheduled recording mode).

Motion Detection Recording

If you select manual configuration, then motion recording, the following screen is displayed. One this screen users can choose the resolution, frame rate, quality, and whether audio recording is on or off (surveillance microphone required) for each camera when motion is detected.

Users may configure each camera for motion detection recording by selecting the motion sensor option under the camera menu. Users can turn motion detection on / off, enable an icon to be displayed on the screen when motion is detected (Mark field), and sensitivity level for each camera. Users can also define specific zones within each camera view for motion detection by selecting the edit area button.

The below screenshot shows how to mark the door in this room as the only area that motion detection will be applied to.

Alarm Recording

If you select manual configuration, then alarm recording, the following screen is displayed. One this screen users can choose the resolution, frame rate, quality, and whether audio recording is on or off (surveillance microphone required) for each camera when an external alarm (such as door sensor, PIR motion sensor, etc) is triggered.

Intensive Motion Detection Recording

If you select intensive motion recording, then you may configure different recording resolutions, frame rates, and video quality for when each camera is recording continuously and while motion is detected. The idea behind this recording mode is to conserve space when there is no motion (but still record) and record at a higher resolution, higher frame rate, and quality when there is motion detected.

Intensive Alarm Recording

This mode is very similar to intensive motion recording. If you select intensive alarm recording, then you may configure different recording resolutions, frame rates, and video quality for when each camera is recording continuously and when an alarm is triggered. The idea behind this recording mode is to conserve space when there is no alarm (by recording at a lower frame rate and resolution) and record at a higher resolution, higher frame rate, and quality when an alarm is triggered.

Intensive Motion / Alarm Recording

This mode is also very similar to intensive motion recording. If you select intensive motion / alarm recording, then you may configure different recording resolutions, frame rates, and video quality for when each camera is recording continuously vs. when an alarm is triggered or motion is detected. The idea behind this recording mode is to conserve space when there is no alarm or motion (by recording at a lower frame rate and resolution) and record at a higher resolution, higher frame rate and quality when an alarm is triggered or motion is detected.

Panic Recording

The panic recording settings control the video resolution, frame rate (FPS), video quality and whether audio surveillance is on or off when panic recording is triggered on the DVR. Panic recording is enabled when a user presses the panic button on the front of the DVR or from the user interface menu using a mouse. When panics recording is enabled, this overrides any current recording mode (schedule, motion, alarm, etc. and sets all cameras to continuous recording).

How to install your Ax Pro

Simple and intuitive configuration! configure your control unit in 4 steps the application with Hik-Connect!

The app Hik Connect has been designed to easily and efficiently configure all the security devices installed in residential or professional sites from a smartphone or tablet.

The video below shows you the different steps for installing and configuring your AX PRO alarm system

Step 1 :First, make sure your hub is powered on and connected to the network.

2nd step : Then go to HIK-ProConnect.

Create an account or sign in to an existing account.

Then choose from the Site menu.

Create a new site or add to an existing site.

If you need to create a new site, fill in all the information requested:

name of the site
Time zone
Site type. Example: factory, house etc.
Site address

Step 3 : Once the site information has been entered:
Choose add device at the bottom of the page – Scan the QR code on the back of the hub (AX Pro panel) to
Add this device to HIK-ProConnect and associate it with the particular site.

Step 4 : Simply tap on the Hub image and the menu below will appear and display three sub-menus:

1-Partition

2-Device

3-State
In the first sub-menu called “Partition”, it is possible to:
To arm in away mode
To arm in presence mode
to disarm
To control the silent alarm

Step 5: Add devices
In the second sub-menu called “device”:

1. Launch SmartPSS.

2. Click a menu option, such as ‘Live View’, to open this menu in a new tab

3. A new tab will be opened for Live View.

4. Add devices to the grid layout as desired to set up the primary monitor by dragging and dropping.

5. Click the + / Plus icon to open a new tab

6. Once on the New Tab Menu, Click ‘Live View’

7. A new Live View tab will appear. Add devices to the grid layout as desired to set up the secondary monitor by dragging and dropping.

8. Click the tab header then drag and drop it to the secondary monitor. A new independent window of SmartPSS will load.

1. Launch SmartPSS and select ‘Tour & Task’.

2. On the Tour & Task window click ‘+ Add’. Enter a name for the plan then press Enter.

3. Click the + to create a new Task Plan.

4. The Task Editor window will open.

Enter a Task Name¹ and Task Time² (in seconds).
Select from the pre-configured layouts or create your own³

5. To add video to the layout there are several options:

Drag & Drop

Use the Device tree on the left to click on a device then drag and drop it onto the layout. If the device has multiple streams (ex: DVR or NVR) all streams from the device will auto populate the grid layout.

Once a device is added it will appear in the Task List

You can also drag and drop additional video sources into a window to create a sequence within the selected pane. The grid will update with the number of video sources that are added to the selected pane.

Bind

Select the video pane in the grid (outlined in white) then right click the device you wish to add from the Device Tree on the left hand side of the screen. Click ‘Bind IPC’ to add the video to the selected window.

For supported devices with multiple video streams (ex: DVR, NVR) you have additional options when right clicking the device:

Bind All Cameras – Auto populates the grid layout from the selected device

Bind Multiplay Stream – Creates a video layout within the selected pane of all connected cameras from the device

Example:

6. After adding the desired video sources to the task you can use the Task List window to edit each individual window’s settings.

Select the video pane in the grid (outlined in white) and the programmed objects and events for this window will appear in the Task List. Each field can be edited by double clicking in the menu

Preset point: Allows the user to select a preset point for supported cameras such as PTZ – SmartPSS/How To Use PTZ Preset in SmartPSS

Stay Time: Time (in seconds) for video . Click the ‘Pencil’ icon at the top of the list to change the value for the entire list.
Stream Type: Select which video stream: Main Stream, Sub Stream1, etc. Click the ‘Pencil’ icon at the top of the list to change the value for the entire list.
Operation: Use the icons to Preview the stream, move the event up or down in the list order, or delete the event.

7. Once the Task has been programmed click Save to save your work and return to the Tour Window and the new Task should appear in the window.

8. Continue creating tasks using the Task Editor to build a series of tasks for this tour to run. Drag and drop the tasks to change the order. Click the ‘Pencil’ icon to edit the Task or the ‘Trash’ icon to delete the Task.

9. Once the Tour has been programmed you can now enable/begin your created tours: SmartPSS/How To Enable Task

10. The tour will continue to run until ‘Stop Tour’ is clicked.

Manual Tour

1. Launch SmartPSS.

2. Click ‘Live View’

3. Use the drop down box to select the Tour, then click ‘Start Tour’

4. The tour will continue to run until ‘Stop Tour’ is clicked.

Schedule Tour

1. Launch SmartPSS and select ‘Tour & Task’.

2. Click ‘Scheduled Tour Setting’ to open the menu

3. Use the menu to configure the schedule.

Device Type¹ – Select from a single day or a week schedule option
Task Plan² – Task the schedule is being created for
Start/End Time³ – Enter a Start Time and End Time for the schedule.

For Week Plan options, Use the tabs above the table to select which day to add the schedule to.

Click ‘Add’ to add the time to the schedule.

Click ‘Save’ once you have completed the schedule.

4. Return to Live View, then click to toggle ‘Scheduled Tour’ in the lower portion of the screen to enable the Scheduled Tour Setting. The Scheduled Tour will continue to operate according to the programmed scheduled until it is disabled or the software is closed.

How To Export Device Record In SmartPSS

1. Launch SmartPSS.

2. Click ‘Playback’

3. The Playback window will open

Use the Device Tree on the left to select the device you wish to export from.

You can configure the parameters of the search using the drop down box:

Record Type
Stream Type – Main Stream, Sub Stream
Time

Click ‘Search’ to begin a search based on the parameters.

4. Once the Search is complete recorded footage will appear in the timeline. Press the ‘Play’ icon to begin playback.

5. Use the Playback tools to navigate to a starting point for the clip. You can use the playback buttons below the timeline or drag the timeline scrubber

6. Click the Time Clip icon to select a start point.

7. Once clicked, a draggable window will appear in the timeline. Use this tool to select the length of the clip to export. The window will show you the Start and Time time of the clip as well as the Duration.

8. Click the Time Clip icon again to select an end point

9. The Export Setup menu will appear.

The menu gives several options for export:

Path: Click browse to select a file location to save the exported footage
Export Format: Select which video format for the clip (ASF, AVI, MP4, or Original Format)
Export SmartPlayer Player: Check the box to include the playback software with the export

Once the export settings have been configured, click Ok to begin Export.

10. The Export Progress window will appear.

This window will give you a live update of the export process.

You can Pause, Start, or Delete exports in progress by using the icons at the top of the screen

11. Once the Export is complete, it will appear in the ‘Exported’ tab

Click the Folder icon to open the directory the file was exported to

Click in the Time field to select a date range to search. Please note the maximum is 24 hour range.

Click ‘Search’ to begin a search based on the parameters.

4. Once the search is complete the first image will be loaded in the center screen.

Use the buttons labeled “Back” and “Next” to navigate through the recorded images.

Autoplay – Toggle Autoplay to begin an automatic slideshow of all images. You can adjust the sequence delay using the drop down box (1-3 seconds).

Click the Full Screen icon to make SmartPSS full screen

5. Click the Floating Bar on the right hand side of the screen to open the Picture Export menu

This menu shows all recorded images from the requested time period/device in a list.

Click an entry in the list to load the image in the center window.

6. Use the checkbox next to the picture to select it for export. You can also click the Checkbox icon above the list to select all pictures in the list at once.

7. Once the pictures for export have been selected, click the Export icon to open the Export Menu

8. Use the Export Menu to define the parameters of the picture export

Click OK to begin Export

Creating a Role

1. Launch SmartPSS.

2. Click User

3. Click ‘Add Role’

4. The Role Info menu will appear. Use the fields to enter the parameters of the role:

Role Name: Name for the role
Remark: Description of role for reference
Menu Rights: Use the checkbox to select which menu rights you wish to allow for this role
Channel Rights: Specific per device user rights can be set to the role for already added devices

After filling out the parameters for the role, click Save

The Role will be created

Creating a User

1. Click User

2. Click ‘Add User’

3. The User Info menu will appear. Use the fields to enter the parameters of the role:

User Name: Name for the role. This name must be unique
Role: Use the drop-down box to select the Role for this user
Password: Enter a password for the user and confirm. The 3 bar meter next to the field will denote the password complexity
Remark: Description of user for reference

Once PC-NVR is enabled you can begin initial configuration.

4. Click HDD Manager to setup the local hard drive to be used for recording.

Click Allocate to begin disk setup.

5. Use the slider to allocate disk space for recordings or you can manually enter the value. Click ‘Allocate’ once you have entered the disk size

To delete the disk allocation, click the button next to the Hard Drive. Note: Deleting a drive allocation will delete all recording files.

6. Click Channel Management

7. Select the devices you want to add to PC-NVR from the device list then click the >> button. To delete any devices click the << button.

8. Once the device is added a preview will load from each device. Use the checkbox next to each to device to select it, or use the Checkbox at the top to Select All devices. Once the devices have been checked click Save

9. Click Record Plan

10. Use the Record Plan menu to set up a schedule for the device to record. By default the schedule will be set to Regular (Continuous) recording 24/7.

Click the Gear icon to enter the Schedule Menu

11. Enter the parameters of the Schedule, including time range and Recording Type (Regular, Event)

Once finished click Save

12. Once the schedule has been created it can be copied to another device. Click ‘Copy to’ to copy the current schedule to other added devices

13. Select which devices to add the current schedule to then click OK

2a. Select the camera by left clicking it once.
2b. Select “Motion Detection” under Channel Event.

3. Click “Link Video” and select the cameras to be added onto the grid boxes.
Tip: If only one camera needs to be added then select one grid box only. Multiple grid boxes can be selected for more cameras.

4. Once motion is detected, another pop-up windows will appear and show the camera(s)’ live views. Please note that if there are more than one camera are selected previously, both cameras will show up regardless of motion on the second camera.
For example, the below image shows both cameras being up but there isn’t any motion on the first camera, however, it still shows up due to both cameras are added to the same grid box.

Important notice: If two cameras are setup separately (not on the same grid box), the pop-up windows still shares between them but only one camera can be seen at a time.
