1. Download and install the app.

You also can visit the Apple Store or the Google Play Store to download the Guard Viewer app for iOS or Android devices. Alter installation, tap the icon to launch the app.

2.Register an account and login

For first time use, please create a new account and add the following steps:

Add Device to APP(Guard Viewer)

Auto add is not suggested. Please tap on “Later” if you see this message box.

In this situation, it will Auto Search to discover the NVR device connected to the local network. But once your mobile phone disconnects with LAN WiFi, you will not be able to view it anymore.

Please Add devices in this way

1.  Please Tap on  “ Menu” icon> Tap on “Devices”> “Add” ,

2.  Tap on “Scan”> “OK ” to scan the NVR QR code

3.Navigate to “Menu– Network> Basic> P2P”

• If the Device Status is “Network connected…” , means device is online   and ready for remote view

• If the Device Status is “Offline” , please check the network connection first, if the problem remains, please feel free to contact us at  Love@Hiseeu.com   

After you add the device successful, the “Device status” will be “Online”, and your APP account username will display here.   • You can check your APP user name by navigate to “Me”

• If the username doesn’t belong to you, please click on “Delete” and add it again.

4. add NVR by scanning device QR code and click on “save”

5.    Please Tap on “Menu ” icon, Tap on “Live View” “Add”

6.  Select the device and tap on “Start Live View ”

1. If the device shows offline on the mobile phone app, we need to make sure the NVR is connected to the network perfectly or not

2. Go to your monitor that is connected to NVR, and check out the network status first navigate to this path first: “Menu–Network–Basic–P2P”, also check whether the device status is online or not,

3. Also go to “Menu–Network–Advanced”,to disable the “PPPoE”

4. if it shows: network disconnected, plz enable the DHCP in this path ” Menu–Network–Basic-TCP/IP ” and click “Apply”. After that, go back to “P2P” and check if the device status is online or not

5. if you connect the network cable to the lan port or the lan/wan port of the router

We need to connect it to the lan port of the router,plz take a photo of yours for us to check.

If the P2P show connect the network ,but the app also show the offline,please delect the device on your APP and re-add it again.

6.APP Share Device

APP Share Device

One device is linked to one user only. The NVR system can only be controlled by one authorized account, which can share the device with others to prevent attack or hacking.

There are 2 ways to share the device with others. For the admin user, please follow the instructions to share the device:

1.Type in “Menu Icon ” and navigate to “Devices”

2. Tape on “… ” > “Share”, You can select a single channel to share or select the entire NVR system to share

3.Share the device by typing in the user name you want to share and selecting the function as needed.

• The other user needs to register a Guard Viewer APP account and provide the user name for sharing.

• After that, when this user login the APP will find the device by navigating to “Devices”.

4.Share the device by generating a QR code

• Create a sharing password and set the valid period

• Click “Generate”, your APP will generate a QR code

• Other users can use the APP to add the device by scanning the QR code you sent

Download and run “Guard Station” on the PC

1) Please Navigate to “Device Management”> “Cloud Device”> Click on “Login”

2) Login with your APP account and password.

3) After Login, the device you added to the APP will list here

Plz go to your NVR that is connected to Monitor,

Check out the network status, first navigate to this path first : “Menu–Network–Basic–P2P” ,and check the device status is online or not,

if it shows: network disconnected, plz enable the DHCP in this path ” Menu–Network–Basic-TCP/IP ” and click “Apply” , After that, go back to “P2P” and check if the device status is online or not

9.Not Recording? HDD not working?

Right-click the mouse from “Menu–Storage–Hard Disk”

If there is no hard drive information or Status shows Abnormal, the hard drive is having an issue

10.AHD5 Modify the Camera model

（Please notice that AHD5 cameras only the TVI camera model have the audio function，the AHD5 cameras we sell seperately is the AHD model so it should modify the TVI model to have the audio function)

1. Click the OSD Menu Control , then click the arrows to the Menu t hen click the icon to select the “VIDEO SETTING ”

2.Select the VDEO SETTING and click the arrow to enter.

3.Then Select the “TVI ” on the HD, then click the “APPLY&REBOOT “and then click the “RETURN “and the “EXlT” back to the Version

If you forget your current password, please follow the instructions to reset it.

1. In the system login interface, please click on “Enter Password” > “Forgot Password”

2. If you filled in your email address as a reserved email when you set up the system, you can reset the device password via the APP(Guard Viewer)

In NVR interface, tap forgot password.

1. Scan the above QR code by APP “ME–General–Forget Device Password” , and the security code will be sent to your email address.

2. If you haven’t set up an email before, or have any difficulties resetting the password, please take a screenshot of this interface(Serial No. please also make the code is as clear as you can ), and email us at love@hiseeu.com , since we need the serial number to produce a new password by using an internal tool

12.One or two cameras are not working

(1) BNC Cable connected to Camera is broken

Step: Use another BNC cable to connect the camera to have a try

(2) The port of the DVR box is broken

Step: After changing the BNC cable, and still there is no camera image, plz insert the camera into another port of the DVR to have a try

(3) Camera is broken after troubleshooting with the steps （1）-（2）

13.Four cameras or above are not working

Four cameras or above are not working

Four cameras or above not working is an abnormal situation. It’s not only a camera issue, which could be related to a power supply or power splitter connected to four cameras

If the power supply or power splitter connected to four cameras is broken, which can’t provide power supply to cameras

Step:

(1）Change to another 12V 2A Power Supply to connect to four cameras to have a try. We wanna make sure if this is related to the power adapter

(2) Change another 1-4 way power splitter to connect four cameras to have a try. We wanna make sure if this is related to the power adapter

( If you do not have another power adapter/splitter, plz use the other power adapter connected to the four normal cameras)

After making sure the power supply or power splitter is doing fine, but still no camera image, which means the DVR box is having issue

4.Eight Cameras are not working

How to Share the APP to other

1.Open the “Xmeye Pro ” app ,Click the pencil to edit,

Then Click the Share

2.Select the function which you want to share

3.Finally enter the user name who you want to share ,then you can shre to others successful.

My UI Interface shows “No signal” or “Black Screen”

We need to divert this issue into two situations:

1. DVR Indicator light is on:

(1) Cause: The camera system’s video output resolution is 1080P. If your TV monitor resolution is below 1080P, this issue will occur. Steps:

Please right-click and hold your mouse for over 10 seconds to see if the system can reboot or not. Or, please try to connect the system to another TV monitor with a higher resolution (above 1080P)

  (2) Cause: The hard disk drive inside of the DVR box is broken, and use the screwdriver to open the DVR box to unplug the wires of the hard disk drive, and reboot the DVR to have a try. If the DVR box can be rebooted after unplugging the wires of the hard disk drive(HDD), which means the HDD is having the issue, and needs a replacement, plz contact email love@hiseeu.com for a replacement HDD if their warranty is still 1 year, and if the warranty is over 1 year, plz leave a five-star review for us to apply for a free HDD

( If you do not have a spare one, use the one that is connected to 4 cameras to have a try)

(2) Cause: The hard disk drive inside of the DVR box is broken Step: Use the screwdriver to open the DVR box to unplug the wires of the hard disk drive, and reboot the DVR to have a try. If the DVR box can be rebooted after unplugging the wires of the hard disk drive(HDD), which means the HDD is broken, and needs a HDD replacement, plz contact email love@hiseeu.com for a replacement HDD if their warranty is still 1 year, and if the warranty is over 1 year, plz leave a five-star review for us to apply for a free HDD

My UI Interface stuck in Hiseeu Logo

We need to upgrade the system to solve this problem, and check customer’s NVR mainboard info first, and take a photo for us to make sure about firmware verison, then we will ask manufacturer to send us a firmware to upgrade the system to solve this problem

1. If you are in the phone call , just let the customer take a photo of the mainboard, and send it to email love@hiseeu.com. We will ask for a firmware to solve this problem during our working time

(Different versions have various firmware, there is no standard firmware to upgrade the system, so we need to ask the original manufacturer to do that)

2. If you are dealing with the email:

Try with the steps:

1. Ask the customer to open the DVR box by using the screwdriver, and take a photo of this mainboard, and make sure the QR Code is clear enough for us to scan

2.After receiving the photo of the mainboard,  we will ask the XM Manufacturer for a firmware, and upgrade the NVR with the new firmware.    

Upgrade steps

Attached upgrade firmware is for your reference, please download and unzip it first.

1. Copy these 2 files to your USB flash drive, the root directory(Do not under any folder, see the picture attached)

2. Power off the DVR and insert the USB device

3. Power on the DVR, it will upgrade automatically. Please give it a try and let us know the outcome.

How to Sign Up APP Account

Please follow these instructions to sign up for an account via your mobile number.

1. Click on Sign Up

2. Sign Up by email or Select Mobile Number

3. Select the correct country code +1, input your mobile number and click on “Get code”

4. A code will be sent to the mobile phone number, input the verification code and continue.

[Note: You can tap on “Local” for quick login without registration. (In this situation, you still can have live view and playback but are not able to receive motion detect alarm message), so mostly we suggest customers to sign up an account first]

Network “Probing DNS”?

1. Go to Monitor UI Interface, and Navigate to “Main Menu > Network > Net Service”, if the “Cloud Status” shows connected, means NVR/DVR is online

–>2. If the cloud status shows “Probing DNS”, Please Navigate to “Main Menu > Network > Check the icon of “Enable DHCP”–>Apply; –>Reboot the DVR by unplugging the power adapter and re-plug it, then double-check the cloud status ( only cloud status shows )

One or two cameras are not wokring

Please drag the exe file to your Desktop interface (do not under any folder) and run it again.

Like it the photo shows , plz do have a try again ,the VMS will run normally

Upgrade NVR/DVR firmware

If customers need a firmware upgrade for NVR/DVR, and we need the “System version” to send to XMmanufacturer to ask for a firmaware to upgrade  

Go to Monitor UI Interface, and navigate to “Main Menu– Advanced–Version“

After get the Version:

Please follow the instructions below to upgrade the NVR/DVR firmware. Steps:

Attached new firmware for you, please download it and unzip it.  

1. Copy to your USB flash drive, and put it in the root directory(Do not under any folder)

2. Plug the USB device into NVR/DVR

3. Navigate to “Main Menu–> Advanced–> Upgrade”

> Upgrade position(Select your usb device)

–> Upgrade file (Select the firmware)

–> Upgrade

What if the APP keeps asking the user and password?

Step: Plz input the Monitor UI user name and password to resolve this issue

The cause： Sometimes the APP would be in the process of auto-maintain, so it would ask for the user name and password to protect the account’s safety. This page will pop up when you want to live to view the camera.

Note: Some customers enter the App account user name and password. Actually, it’s the Monitor UI user name and password      

As for how to find out the user name and password, plz go next to the TV monitor UI Interface, and right click the mouse from “Log out–Log out“, then right click the mouse and navigate to “Main Menu“, this interface [system login] will pop up, and here are the user name and password we need to enter into the app

2. Login with the default User Name and Password. Click “SIGN IN”.

Default User name is: admin

3. Navigate to “Device Manager”–>”Manual Add”

4. Login Type: Cloud ID

Device Name: Name Your Device as you like

Cloud ID : Device Serial Number. We need to go to the TV Monitor connected to the NVR , and find out the information on TV Monitor UI, then right click the mouse to navigate to the path of “Main Menu–>Advanced–>Version” to find out the information “serial number”

[Note: most customers do not know how to find the serial number, so they can’t add the device to PC Client

User Name and password: Input the user name and password that you created for the NVR , and we also need to find this from the Monitor UI.

[Note: Most customers do not know their user name and password, so we need to guide them to go next to the TV monitor, and right click the mouse from “Log out–Log out”, then right click the mouse and navigate to “Main Menu”, this interface [system login] would pop up]

5. Navigate to “Live View”, Click on the device name(serial number), then select “Open All By Sub Stream”

What should I do If I forgot my DVR password

1.Right click mouse from home screen, Click “Log Out–>Log Out”

Why can’t live view the videos on mobile APP or PC Client VMS

1.Please make sure that your DVR system is already connected to the router through ethernet cable successfully

2.Please go to Main Menu > System > Net Service to check the network is connected or not, Cloud should shows: connected 

3.Make sure the way you add device to your mobile app or PC client with correct serial number and password

Serial number: “Main Menu–Advanced–Version”

Password: DVR login password 

Why the DVR can’t record or playback video

If HDD(Hard disk drive) is having issue or something wrong with record setting, the DVR can’t record/playback the video

1. Check if the hard drive status is normal or error

Navigate to: Main Menu–>Advanced–>HDD info. 

 If it’s hows “error” or no hard drive info, means hard drive failure. (need to replace hard dirve)

2. Check the record plan is set up for 24/7 continues recording

Navigate to Main Menu–>Record Conf

Channel : select “All”

Period: “00:00-24:00”

Select “Regular”

3.   Please make sure the HDD was set up to “Overwrite”

Camera stay in Black’n white during the daytime

It’s a normal situation especially during the switch from night to day, but if the camera keep stayiing in the black and white mode for a long time in the daytime, plz unplug the camera from the DVR port, and replug the wire of the camera into the DVR port to have a try first. 

After repluging the wire of the camera, and if the situation happens again, plz contact us for further support

What if the APP keeps asking the user and password?

Step: Plz input the Monitor UI user name and password to resolve this issue

The cause： Sometimes the APP would be in the process of auto-maintain, so it would ask for the user name and password to protect the account’s safety. This page will pop up when you want to live to view the camera.

Note: Some customers enter the App account user name and password. Actually, it’s the Monitor UI user name and password      

As for how to find out the user name and password, plz go next to the TV monitor UI Interface, and right click the mouse from “Log out–Log out“, then right click the mouse and navigate to “Main Menu“, this interface [system login] will pop up, and here are the user name and password we need to enter into the app

Upgrade NVR/DVR firmware

If customers need a firmware upgrade for NVR/DVR, and we need the “System version” to send to XMmanufacturer to ask for a firmaware to upgrade

We need to divert this issue into two situations:

1. DVR Indicator light is on:

(1) Cause: The camera system’s video output resolution is 1080P. If your TV monitor resolution is below 1080P, this issue will occur. Steps:

Please right-click and hold your mouse for over 10 seconds to see if the system can reboot or not. Or, please try to connect the system to another TV monitor with a higher resolution (above 1080P)

  (2) Cause: The hard disk drive inside of the DVR box is broken, and use the screwdriver to open the DVR box to unplug the wires of the hard disk drive, and reboot the DVR to have a try. If the DVR box can be rebooted after unplugging the wires of the hard disk drive(HDD), which means the HDD is having the issue, and needs a replacement, plz contact email for a replacement HDD if their warranty is still 1 year, and if the warranty is over 1 year, plz leave a five-star review for us to apply for a free HDD

In this article we will see how to configure an ALARMBOX in the recorders X-SECURITY

:XVR -VS2, -H and -HEVC.

For this tutorial we have used the following references:

XS-XVR6116-4KL-HEVC + XS-ALARMBOX16-6 + XS-PIRW-2EHAC.

Very important, the recorders must be updated to the latest version of firmware available, it is essential.

Step 1: Access the recorder and select the option “ALARM”

Step 2: Access the “ALARM INPUT” option

After accessing this option, we have the possibility to check the status of the ALARMBOX and be sure that it is working and also check which is its address.

3rd Step: Once the Alarmbox status has been checked, we are going to configure the HDCVI alarm.

In this case, as we are using a camera with PIR (in our example the XS-PIRW-2EHAC) we enable the HDCVI Alarm and then we will proceed to make the linkage with the desired alarm output.

In this option, we can configure the period in which the alarm is going to work, to which alarm output we can associate the event of the selected channel, configure the PTZ of another channel and, in advanced options, we can choose other options such as send e-mail, send a beep, send messages, and so on.

Step 4: Connect the alarm output by clicking on ALARM OUT.

If we had more than one Alarmbox, we would have to choose the corresponding one (up to 4). In this case we leave selected the Alarmbox 1 and the Alarm 1 output.

After these steps, the alarm output 1 of the Alarmbox will automatically be activated when the XS-PIRW-2EHAC detects motion.

Remember that this example is basic, we could go further and perform other actions that can be comfortably explored in the ALARMBOX configuration menu.

1. Reset: Press the reset button for 5 seconds

2. Serial port connection: Please use connector and weld it on the package of the serial port

The picture below regards the cable coming out of the camera; you need an extension cable to
do the reset. Shortage the Blue wire (RESET) and the Orange wire (GND) for at least 5
seconds until the camera restarts

Checking and Updating Firmware on X-SECURITY Recorders

In this guide we are going to indicate the necessary steps to check and update the firmware in the X-SECURITY recorders, both in the firmware version V3.2.

For this update we will use the Internet Explorer and we must install the plugins of the recorder to the web browser.

Access the recorder and then go to INFO

First we have to check the model of the recorder and the firmware version that is currently installed.

Then we go to the Visiotech website and look for the recorder, in this case the XS-XVR6104, click on Downloads and then apply the FIRMWARE filter.

Our recorder currently has the firmware System Version: 3.210.0001.3, Build Date: 12-12-2016 and the Visiotech web version is System Version: 3.218.0000002.5. Therefore we proceed to download the firmware:

The download file is a .zip file, so let’s unpack it. The file we are interested in for the update via web is the .bin file.

Then go back to the recorder, press CONFIG / SYSTEM / UPGRADE and then look for the file you have downloaded by pressing Browse.

Once the file is selected, we proceed to finish the update by pressing UPGRADE.

To update the firmware of an X-SECURITY recorder with Firmware version V4.0.X or higher, the procedure will be the same, however, it changes a little the interface of the recorder.

For this procedure we will also use Internet Explorer as a browser to access the device and perform the update.

After accessing the recorder the first thing to do is to check the firmware version, press Management on the upper left side.

Then we choose INFO.

We see that the recorder is the XS-XVR6208-4KL-HEVC and the firmware version is System Version: V4.000.0000001.13, Build Date: 2019-01-24.

We download the most recent version from the Visiotech website and proceed to update.

In the option MANAGEMENT / SYSTEM / UPGRADE

Press Browse and look for the file that has been downloaded from the Visiotech website.

Remember that the file is a .zip file and you will have to unzip the files contained in it; the update file we are interested in for this procedure is the .bin file.

Once updated, we can check again the version to have the confirmation that it was successfully updated.

How to access an X-SECURITY recorder via Web with a P2P connection

We already know that many parameters can only be changed from the web interface of a recorder or directly on the recorder itself.

The problem starts after an installation is finished and the recorder is added to our SmartPss only by P2P.

.

Many times we are unable to open the ports on the router because we do not have access to it, but it is possible to access the recorder via browser to change certain parameters only with P2P access.

How to enter the OSD menu of X-Security / Dahua 4N1 or HDCVI cameras

The first thing to emphasize is that the OSD menu cannot be accessed using CVBS video technology, which implies that with a traditional composite or analog video format we will not be able to access the OSD menu.

To be able to access the device, the camera must be in HDCVI, HDTVI or AHD format.

If it is in CVBS format we must use a PFM820 control switch, interposing it between the camera and the recorder, and switch the format to HDCVI or HDTVI preferably.

Separate outputs in X-Security

Usually we are going to find VGA and HDMI video outputs, which normally show the same information, but there are also some models that allow to display different video signals (independent outputs).

The independent output function in X-Security / Dahua is normally available when the device has 2 HDMI outputs.

How to Access Device from Web 2M DVRs

When devices are connected to the network, they can also be accessible from a computer. The first thing you need to make sure of is that the computer you are using and the DVR/NVR are connected to the same network (network is coming from the same router for both devices). You will first need to obtain the IP address of the DVR/NVR from Menu → System → Network → IPv4 address.

After noting the IP address of your device, open Internet Explorer and in the address search bar type in the DVR/NVR IP address. If the NVR and the computer are on the same network then it will pull up the login page of the DVR/NVR. The credentials will be the same as when you log into the local interface of your device.

2M Tool is used to find the IP address of your 2M NVR, DVR, or IP camera, as well as limited management of its settings. You only need to make sure that the computer you are using 2M Tool on is connected to the same network as the device that you are trying to search for.

Why do we need the serial number? The serial number is mainly used in case of a customer needing a password reset on their device.

How do we find the serial number? There are a few ways to find the number:

• sticker on the device
• sticker on the box that the device came in
• web page client of the device
• using 2M Tool

In the case that you forget the password for you device in which you will not be able to access the web page, and the camera is too high up to reach to find the sticker, you can use 2M Tool to find the serial number. 2M Tool does not automatically show the number; you must force it to show. First, you will need to click on the Settings icon to show the options:

Then another window will open where you can select Serial Number to show.

Once you hit OK, the serial number will then appear.

How to Install Plugin for Internet Explorer

This article features screenshots from our 2MN-8XXX series NVR and our 2MT-4XXX series DVR, but the same principle will apply to any other recorder. This is because each recorder requires a plugin in order to view the cameras on the web page. You will have to manually install the plugin, but it is usually always provided as a link for easy access.

First, you must make sure that you are using Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer is the only browser that can support these plugins. It is possible for some devices to be viewed on Google Chrome or even Firefox, but then other functions are very limited so it is highly not recommended to use those browsers. Once Internet Explorer is open, and you navigate to the device’s web page by entering the IP address, there should be a link shown on the page. You can see on the picture below that the link is located on the top of the page.

When you click on the link, a pop-up will appear on the bottom of the page that will let you choose whether to Run the program or Save the program onto your computer. Note: Running the program will not save it. If you wish to save the program, please select Save. Once it has finished downloading, then you can run the program from the file location.

If you choose to Run the program, an error message will appear noting that the publisher couldn’t be verified. This is no issue; the plugin will not cause any harm to your computer. Hit Run, and run the installation. Some installations will require you to close out of Internet Explorer in order to complete the setup.

Once the setup is complete, refresh the page, and another message will pop-up on the bottom that asks you to Allow the add-on to run. Select Allow, and log into the page. Now you should be able to view your cameras on the web page.

How to Set Up 2M Guard

2M Guard is the phone app that we use for our NVR’s to view cameras from our phones offsite.

This app only works for models: 2MT-4004, 2MT-4008, 2MT-4088, 2MT-4016, 2MN-8004-P4, 2MN-8008-P8, 2MN-8116-P16, 2MN-8232-P16 and our IP cameras.

1. Find the Register Code and/or QR Code for your DVR/NVR

• on NVR menu: Menu → System → Network → P2P OR Menu → Network → P2P
• on web menu: Setup → Network → P2P

2. Two ways to add a device onto the app:

1. Star4Live
2. directly on the app

Method 1: Adding Device Through Star4Live

• Go to https://www.star4live.com/login
• Click on Login if you already have an existing account or Sign Up if you do not

• Once you have logged in, click on Add and another window will pop up prompting for a Device Name and Register Code. Once all of the required information has been filled out, hit OK and your device should show up under My Cloud Devices.

• Once you have successfully added the device on Star4Live, open the app and log into your account using the same credentials that you created/used on star4live.com
• Go to Live View and tap the icon in the upper right corner to select a device
• Select the device you would like to view
• Start live view

Method 2: Adding Device Directly on the App

• When you first download the app it will prompt you to either Sign Up or Login
• Tap on Login if you already have an existing account or Sign Up if you do not

• Open up the app menu and go to Devices. This section shows all of the devices that have been added onto your account. To add another one, tap on Add at the top of the screen.

• You can choose to add the device by scanning the QR code or by manually inputting the Register Code. To move forward with either of these options, you will need to tap on Scan

• A screen will appear for you to scan a QR code. If you choose to scan this is where you will do it, but if you choose to manually enter the Register Code, tap on the edit icon on the bottom.

• Once all of the correct information has been filled out, hit the Save icon in the upper right corner.
• In order to see the cameras, open the app menu and tap on Live View
• At first, it will look blank. This is because we need to add the cameras to the windows. Tap on the Add icon in the upper right corner

• A list of your devices will appear. Select the one that you want to view and hit Start Live View on the bottom

• Now you can view your cameras on the go!

How to Set Up 2M Station

When first running the program, it will prompt you for a username and password which will be admin/123456 by default. It is recommended that you change the password after installation.

Once you are logged in it will show the menu. Click on Device Management to add any devices. On the left side make sure that Encoding Device is selected. It will show at the bottom of the screen any devices that are online as long as the computer is on the same network as the devices.

There are two methods to add an online device. The first method is fairly simple. All you need to do is check the box for the NVR that shows under Online Device and then click Add. The second method to adding an online device is to manually add it. First click on Add next to Managed Device, and it will open another window where you can input the details of your device. It will ask for:

• Device Name → can be any name for your device
• IP/Domain → local or public IP address of NVR
• Port → port number of NVR
• Username → username of NVR
• Password → password of NVR

After putting in all of the correct information of your device, click on Add and then the device should come online.

Another method to add a device is by using the P2P method which allows for a user to view their cameras offsite from any location. The device will be added as a Cloud Device instead of an Encoding Device.

It will show Login and Register buttons that will link to your Star4Live account which will show the devices you have previously added. After logging in, it will take a minute or two for the devices to show online. At first, it will say Offline (Connecting…), but eventually the status will show Online.

After successfully adding all of your devices, go back to the menu and click on Live View to view your cameras. A list of online devices will show on the left side of the window. Click and drag the device into the window view in order to load all of the video. If not all of the cameras are wanted in view, you can click on the plus sign next to your device and it will show a list of cameras connected to the NVR. You can click and drag specific cameras onto the live view screen.

How to Set Up Email Notifications Using Gmail

Gmail will have automatic security settings that need to be disabled before configuring email settings in the NVR. You will need a computer in order to edit these settings. First, log on to your Gmail account and then click on the square icon in the upper right corner of the page. Click on Account.

Security → Scroll to the bottom until you find “Less secure app access” → “Allow less secure apps: ON”

Now that Gmail has been set to allow app access, we can move on to the NVR settings. These can either be configured through the web page or through the NVR itself.

Through the DVR/NVR: Main Menu → Network → Basic → Email

Through the webpage: Setup → Network → Email

• Server Authentication: On
• Username: email that you will be sending from (can be a throwaway email)
• Password: password of email account
• SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
• SMTP port: 465
• Enable TLS/SSL
• Can choose to attach image or not
• Sender: sender name
• Sender’s address: email address (same as username)
• Recipient: any recipient name
• Recipient address: email address of recipient
• Test email

After you finish entering all of the settings and the test is successful go to Camera → Motion → Select Camera → Trigger Actions → Send Email

How to Share a Device

Each NVR can only be added by one account at a time, so if one wants to add a device onto multiple accounts they would need to share the device with one account being the “main” account. This means that one person will have the device added to their account and that person will share the device with other people. Each person still must have their own Star4Live account.

How to share the device is simple. First, you will need to log onto the main Star4Live account which the NVR has been added to. It can be done either through the computer or your personal phone.

Sharing from Computer: after logging into the account your list of added devices will appear. Click Share on the row for the device you are wanting to share.

Then a menu will appear to enter the account you want to share to, the Valid Till date, User Rights, and any Description you want to give.

• Share To → can either be the username or the email of the Star4Live account you are sharing to
• Valid Until → can go up to X amount of years, months, or just a few days
• Permission → can choose any user rights that have already been configured on the NVR (admin, etc.)
• Remarks → can give a short description to the recipient about the device that is being shared

Once all of the information has been correctly filled out, click Confirm to successfully share.

Sharing from 2M Guard Phone App: after logging into your Star4Live account on the 2M Guard app, go to your Devices and then tap on the device that you want to share. A small menu will appear. Then tap Share on the bottom of the screen.

The next window will show the device and a list of the cameras that are connected and online. You can choose specific cameras, or select the device so that the entirety of its cameras are selected for sharing.

Once your device(s) has been selected, the Share menu will finally appear. The app will ask for the same information as the computer does, but it will not give a space to fill out a description. Fill out the Share To and the Valid Period the same as you would do on the desktop instructions written above. The only other difference between the Star4Live browser and the app is the sharing Type: you will be able to choose between Role or Function.

• Role: can choose a specific user or role to share to another user
• Function: can choose specific functions to share to another user with Live View being automatically selected by default

NOTE: Only admin rights will allow another user to access the device through the web browser or through 2M Station because they both allow a user to make changes to the device. If you do not wish for another user to be able to make any kind of changes (viewing only), please choose the By Function type.

Once one of these methods have been completed to share the device, the recipient only needs to log into their Star4Live account and the shared NVR should show automatically under their own device list.

How to Sign Up for Star4Live Account

Star4Live is the server that we use to view NVR and camera footage over the web. Each customer needs to have an account to view and manage their devices.

This is only valid for models: 2MT-4004, 2MT-2008, 2MT-4088, 2MT-4016, 2MN-8004-P4, 2MN-8008-P8, 2MN-8116-P16, 2MN-8232-P16 and our IP cameras.

• Go on https://www.star4live.com/login
• Click on Sign Up

• Clicking on this link will direct you to a new page that will prompt you to fill out information in order to create an account
  1. Username
  2. Email → Acquire: will send a code to the email entered
  3. Verification Code: code that was sent to email. NOTE: If you have not received anything in your inbox, please also check the Spam folder.
  4. Password
  5. Confirm Password
  6. Service Agreement

• Once all the information has been correctly filled out, click Register and your account will be ready to use.

How to Upgrade the Firmware

Every now and again, we will release a new firmware update that can either hold new features for your unit, bug fixes, or a bit of both. We have made it simple to request the newest firmware so that there is no need to wait for a file to be sent. First, you will need to make sure that your device is connected to the internet so that the NVR will be able to communicate with our servers.

Method 1: From the NVR Interface

Then you will go into the Main Menu and click on Maintain. There will be a section for Upgrade.

There are two options for upgrading:

1. Local Upgrade: this option is only good if you already have the firmware file loaded onto either a USB to plug directly into the device or if you already have the firmware file in a location on the computer which you are using to upgrade the device
2. Cloud Upgrade: this option is good if you do not already have the file on hand. It will automatically read the current version and detect if there is a newer version available

You will most likely want to choose the Cloud Upgrade option unless you have received the firmware file from Tech Support beforehand. Click Cloud Upgrade, and wait for the device to finish its search. It will either notify you that the current version is already the latest, or it will show a newer version, and the Upgrade button will highlight at the bottom of the screen.

The upgrade time will vary between 1-5 minutes, sometimes lasting longer depending on the size of the update. Once the update has finished, the device will automatically restart. It will be ready to use again once it has fully finished the reboot.

Note: Please make sure that the device does not disconnect from the network or from power because it can cause a risk in damaging the unit if there is a failed update.

Method 2: From the Web Interface

The NVR can be updated from its web page if there is no monitor connected to the unit, or if it cannot be physically accessed. From the web page, you will navigate to Setup → Maintenance → Maintenance → Cloud Upgrade → Detect or Check for Update. The process is the same as it is from the unit itself, and the same rules will apply.

How to Use Star4Live

Star4Live is the server that we use to view NVR and camera footage over the web. Each customer needs to have an account to view and manage their devices. You must use Internet Explorer in order to access all of the functions of Star4Live.

This is only valid for models: 2MT-4004, 2MT-4008, 2MT-4088, 2MT-4016, 2MN-8004-P4, 2MN-8008-P8, 2MN-8116-P16, 2MN-8232-P16 and our IP cameras.

• Using Internet Explorer, please go to https://www.star4live.com/login
• Login if you already have an existing account or Sign Up if you do not
• If you are using this site for the first time on a device, please make sure to install the P2P plugin. The website will show you a prompt at the top of the screen. Make sure to allow pop-ups on your browser because clicking on the link will open up a new window

• When you log into Star4Live, the first page that shows is the Device Management tab which will show My Cloud Devices. Here is where you can see the devices that have been added to your account, or any devices that have been shared with you under Devices Shared To Me

• In order to access a device’s web page, click on the Access icon

• If the P2P plugin has been installed, the NVR web page will display automatically when you access your device. If not, you will get an error that your device “Cannot be reached.”
• Once the web page has finished loading up, you will need to install another plugin to view the cameras’ live feed.
• After it has been installed there will be a pop-up on the bottom of the screen that will ask permission to allow the plugin to run. You will need to allow this.

What software do I use to view my cameras on my PC, and where can I download the software?

1. Please check the network status of the TSCLOUD system. If the users want to view the cameras remotely, the status must be connected.  It could be checked on the Main Menu–>Version>Nat Status.

2. Download the software on your PC named VMS. Here is the download link:

3. Run the software and set up a password for the software. It is better to enable Auto Login.

4. Set up Password Protection in case you forgot the login password.

5. Click the Device and Add. Then please choose TSCloud as the method to add.

6. Input the information about your DVR. The password is the login password of your DVR, not the login password of the software.

7. The Device ID can be found on the DVR monitor. Here is a picture:

8. After that, please go back to the Live View page. Double-click the cameras to view them.

What to Do if Your Device’s Nat Status Does Not Show Connected?

If the users want to view the cameras remotely, the status must be online.  It could be checked on the Main Menu–>Version>Nat Status.

If it is not connected, please try the below troubleshooting:

1. Make sure the receiver is connected to a router via ethernet cable. You can try to change another ethernet cable and another router port to check.

2. Go to Main Menu–Network, uncheck ‘DHCP‘ and change the Primary DNS to “8.8.8.8“, then click ‘Apply‘. Then please check the Nat Status again.

3. If the Nat Status is still not connected, please go back to Main Menu–Network to check “DHCP” again. Then please check the Nat Status again.

4. If it still does not work, please submit a request here to the technical support for more details.

Blue Iris is extremely powerful and customizable. It will let you capture motion recordings, snapshots, and you can even send Deepstack Blue Iris images to Telegram to keep a history of all objected-detected events in place.

This is a very thorough guide, but I’m going to break it down in a step-by-step for beginners. Even if you’ve never use Blue Iris, Deepstack, or any other local NVR security camera software, you can get this up and running quickly and easily.

Let’s get started!

Prerequisites:

Before you get started, you will need the following items:

• A Windows 10 or Server 2019 computer, preferably an Intel Core i7 with QuickSync (I’m using an AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 2700)
• A couple security cameras setup on your network (I’m using an indoor Amcrest IPM2 and an outdoor Amcrest IP5M turret)
• A copy of the Blue Iris software (lifetime $69.00 cost)

Once you have those 3 items setup and ready to go, you can begin the Blue Iris installation process below.

Step 1: Download and Install Blue Iris

The first step is to purchase a copy of Blue Iris. Once purchased, you can download the full version.

Double-click the blueiris.exe to start the installation.

It will prompt to install any missing prerequisites. Click Next.

Agree to the ToS to install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable.

Once complete, it’ll bring you back to the Welcome screen. Click Next again and accept the Blue Iris terms and conditions.

Install Blue Iris in the default folder. Then click Install.

Installation only takes a few seconds. Check the Launch Blue Iris 5 box and then click Finish.

A product activation box will popup. If you are using the 15-day free trial, you can just click Demo. Otherwise, enter a product activation code you received after purchasing by clicking Next.

Note: If you don’t want to setup Deepstack for object detection (which is free and open source), you can skip Step 2 and go directly to Step 3. If you do want to install Deepstack, follow Step 2.

Step 2: Install Deepstack

Navigate to this URL: https://docs.deepstack.cc/windows/

Click the Download CPU Link for Windows. There is also a Download link for Nvidea GPU’s, if you’d like to offload the AI detection on your graphics card instead.

Once downloaded, double-click the .exe to run it.

Install Deepstack with all defaults. Click Finish once complete. To launch Deepstack, open Powershell from the Window Start menu.

deepstack --VISION-DETECTION True --PORT 80

Step 3: Launch Blue Iris

Search your computer or server for Blue Iris from the Windows Start button. You can launch either Blue Iris Admin or Blue Iris.

On the top left corner, click the gear to enter the Global settings screen.

For the rest of step 3, I’m going to refer to each section as “tabs”.

About Tab

In the About tab, give your system a name (i.e. – Blue Iris)

In the Software Support and Updates section, it should default to “no automatic updates” by default. If not, you’ll want to turn automatic updates off.

Clips and Archiving tab

For this section, we’ll need to create a few Windows folders where we want the Blue Iris clips and recording footage to be stored. Ideally you’ll want to choose a harddrive with a decent amount of storage.

I’m using my S:\ drive as the target, which is a 690gb SSD array.

Create a new parent folder on your target drive called “BlueIris” (i.e. S:\BlueIris).

Click into your BlueIris folder and create 4 new folders:

• db
• New
• Stored
• Alerts

Next, we need to map the 4 new folders to the “Folders” section in Blue Iris.

“New” Folder

Click the New folder in Blue Iris. Change the path to the path of your “New” Windows folder. Set a limit, uncheck limit clip age, and set to delete. This is basically going to continually record and store footage until your 300gb is reached and then delete the oldest clips. If you have a large NAS or external drive, you could also click the Move to Folder option and archive them there instead of deleting.

Note: The more cameras you have and the higher resolution they are, the more storage space you’ll need.

“Stored” Folder

Since I have my clips set to delete once it hits the 300gb limit, I’m not really going to be using the Stored folder, so I’m setting it to 20gb, unchecking Limit Clip Age, and setting it to Delete. Down the road I may use this folder for exported clips.

“Alerts” Folder

The “Alerts” folder is where all pictures will be stored (including the Deepstack analyzed snapshots).

I set the limit size to 1gb, checked the box to limit the age to 7 days, and set it to Delete.

“db” folder

You will also need to set the path for the Blue Iris database(db).

IMPORTANT: Your “New” and “db” folders should be on a fast, local storage drive (like an internal SSD), but the Stored folder can be on anything you want. The warning in the above screenshot reminds you of that as well.

Users tab

The Blue Iris users tab is is where you can create and limit access. For example, you can non-admin users, limit access to camera groups, set access times, restrict logins on your local network or configure login schedules.

I recommend leaving these as default for now. You can always come back and adjust these later. For now, just create a new user with a secure password, grant it Administrator access, and restrict access to LAN only (since I’m only ever going to access my cameras on my local network or across my WireGuard VPN). If you do plan on accessing your cameras from a remote network, you’ll need to open a firewall port and uncheck the LAN Only box.

After your new admin user has been created, disable the local_console user.

Web Server tab

To access Blue Iris, you can either open it from the desktop app or from a web browser. I primarily use the Blue Iris Admin desktop app to manage or adjust Blue Iris settings and the web server to view my cameras.

Blue Iris will autofill your server’s network information, including IP address and port. This will allow you to log into Blue Iris from an IP address like 192.168.68.137:81 from any browser on your network. Super handy for accessing from your phone. (I recommend going to this URL on your phone, then click your browser settings > Send to Home Screen. This will give you a shortcut on your phone for quick access)

You can leave everything as default here and just delete the remote access URL and uncheck “refresh external IP. Remote Access can configured later on and would be used for sending snapshots as phone push notifications, but I won’t be going over that in this guide.

Startup tab

The only thing you need to change in this tab is checking the box for “Run As A Windows Service”. This will allow Blue Iris to automatically start up after your computer starts and should reduce system resources.

After checking the box, a popup will prompt you for your username and password:

Cameras tab

Ideally, a 6th generation Intel processor or better is recommend. This allows you to use the QuickSync feature to decode footage more efficiently than raw processing. My AMD CPU is more than powerful enough for my two cameras but I still set this option anyways.

For most users, you’ll want to choose Intel + VPP.

AI tab

Check the Use Deepstack server on IP/port option. If you installed Deepstack, then make sure to check the box Auto start/stop with Blue Iris also.

If you didn’t start Deepstack earlier with the Powershell command, click Start Now (Mine shows Stop Now because it’s already running).

I leave everything else with their default settings.

Other Tabs

You’ll probably notice a bunch of other tabs in Blue Iris as well. Those are a little more advanced than I want to go over in this basic installation guide, but in future I will be setting up the Digital IO and IoT tab to configure with my MQTT broker in Home Assistant. That will be a separate guide and I’ll edit this post once I have that setup.

Adding Cameras to Blue Iris

Now comes the fun part: Adding your cameras to Blue Iris local NVR!

As I said earlier, I’m using two Amcrest cameras.

Launch the Blue Iris Admin desktop app if it’s not already open. Right-click the large black box to add a new camera. I’m using the name “drivewaycam” for both the full name and short name.

For the type, choose Network IP.

For the Options, choose Enable Motion Detector and Direct to disc recording. If you’d like your footage to capture audio, you can check the Enable Audio box if you’d like.

After clicking OK, you’ll be brought to a camera configuration screen. This setup will vary slightly depending on your camera manufacturer.

The easiest way to setup the initial configuration is by entering your cameras’ IP address, user, and password in the http:// field.

Then click Find/Inspect. This will autofill the stream profiles for you. (Note: For Reolink and Hikvision cameras, you have to log into the camera and enable the ONVIF option. See The Hook Up’s video for more info on it.)

Under the Advanced section, the only thing I changed is checking the box for Decoder Compatibility Mode.

If you are using an Amcrest like I am, then Amcrest has also put together a handy wiki page I referenced here. Once you click OK, you’ll be brought to the camera customization page, where you can configure things like triggers and alerts.

Video Tab

Here are my settings for the Video tab.

Set your framerate equal to the FPS in your camera (You can view the current FPS logging into your camera using it’s IP address in a web browser).

Then, uncheck Display overlays live and set your Hardware Decode to default.

Audio Tab

If you enabled Audio in the previous step, just make sure to check the box in this tab to enable it. If not, disable it.

Trigger tab

On the main page of the Trigger tab, set yours to match mine.

Click Configure next to Motion Sensor checkbox. Set your options just I like did. Since we are using Deepstack for object detection, you can uncheck object detection on this screen.

Under the When Triggered section, click Artificial Intelligence. For this part, I’m just telling Deepstack to look for “person” with a confidence level of 60%. Deepstack will be analyzing 3 images to determine whether or not it’s a person. There’s a ton of objects you could detect, such as car, truck, boat, bicycle, dog, etc. A full list of detectable objects can be found here. If detecting multiple objects, separate them with a comma and no spaces.

Make sure the Fire “On Alert” box is checked as well as the “Auto-flag confirmed alerts“. I also turned off Burn Label.

Record tab

We are going to configure this tab to use Continuous Recording + Alerts, splitting video into 1 hour files. I am also using a Pre-trigger buffer to record 5 seconds prior to motion being detected. This means Blue Iris will continually record footage until the “New” folder reaches it’s limit (configured to 300gb in the “New” tab section above)

Alerts tab

The only thing you need to change in this tab (for now) is setting the Fire when: to This camera is triggered. You can leave everything else as default.

Remaining tabs

The Webcast, Schedule, PTZ/Control, Watchdog, and Post tabs can be left alone for now.

Your camera is now setup!

Click OK. You should now see the Live Feed of your first camera in Blue Iris.

Testing Object Detection

Now, it’s time to test your Blue Iris + Deepstack NVR. To test, simply walk in front of your camera for a few seconds.

On the left tab, click the dropdown for “Alerts”. I have 5 alerts displayed so far which correspond to the 5 times I walked in front of my camera and Deepstack has detected that I am a “person”.

Basic Blue Iris Usage

Like I said earlier, Blue Iris is now recording 24/7. Once your limit has been reached, it will start to overwrite the old footage. If you’d like to see all recorded footage, change the dropdown to New. Then, double-click a segment to view it. They will be broken up into 1-hour segments as specified in camera settings > Record tab.

At the bottom, you’ll see a flag at the point in time when “person” object was detected:

However, since we are using Deepstack, we’ve configured these events to go into the Alerts folder so we don’t have to manually search through hours of video. So, you can also just switch to the Alerts dropdown, double-click a recording, and view just that clip.

I think it’s also important to explain how Deepstack works in the Alerts folder. If you sit and watch the “Alerts” dropdown, you’ll see it occasionally add an image and then delete it. This is because Deepstack has determined that the image processed isn’t a person. You will still see all images in your S:\BlueIris\Alerts folder. If you want to view just the images Deepstack has detected as a person, you’ll have to view those from within Blue Iris, not your Windows “Alerts” folder.

Remember: We set a 1gb limit on the Alerts folder, so once it hits 1gb, it’ll start deleting the older images.

Motion Rectangles

If you would would like to see motion rectangles around your motion detections and jpeg’s, here’s what you’d change:

Right click a camera > Camera Settings > Trigger tab. Check motion sensor and click Configure. Under Advanced, check Object detection and make sure to highlight “Show object rectangles”.

To see live motion squares on playback, double-click a recorded clip. Right click > Overlays > Add Motion Overlays.

Troubleshooting Deepstack/Blue Iris Detections

During initial setup, Deepstack might not detect the object correctly.

You might get false positives (i.e. – snapshots taken of things other than person, or nothing at all), or it may not trigger person detection. I recommend editing your AI confidence level by clicking the gear on your camera > Trigger tab > Artificial Intelligence:

Then, edit your confidence level here:

Adding Additional Cameras to Blue Iris

At this point, you may be dreading adding extra cameras. However, this is actually super easy. You can basically “copy” the existing settings from your first camera and apply it to any new ones! Really the only things you’ll need to change is the IP address of the extra cameras.

Right-click the black space next to your existing camera. Then click Add New Camera.

Give it a name and choose Copy from Another Camera:

Backup and Export Blue Iris Configuration

Now that you’ve got things setup and working, I highly recommend exporting your Blue Iris configuration. Just on the offchance your computer crashes or you need to reinstall Blue Iris at some point, it would be very useful to not have to setup this up from scratch again.

I recommend backing up to a different drive than where you installed Blue Iris or your recordings, such as a flash drive up uploading to Google Drive.

Click the gear at the very top of Blue Iris Admin. On the General tab, click Export.

I was hoping to setup a local NVR solution using Frigate in Home Assistant, but unfortunately every time I add cameras to my Home Assistant configuration.yaml, my zwave and zigbee networks stop responding correctly. I’m still not sure why. I even setup a 2nd HA instance, connected it to a different switch port, and didn’t use a zwave/zigbee dongle on the 2nd instance.

I’m not even upset that Frigate didn’t end up working for me, as Blue Iris is extremely customizable and works perfectly in my environment.

How to find camera’s firmware version?

Before embarking on updating or upgrading IP camera’s firmware, you need to get the right one that matches your camera’s firmware. To know your existing camera’s firmware version, you can logon camera’s web interface. Click “Version” on the right top bar, it will pop-up a new window displays camera’s version info, for example:

• Video In: 1
• Alarm In: 2
• Alarm Output: 1
• Audio In: 1
• Build Date:2016/4/27 10:41:27

How to update/upgrade camera’s firmware?

Once you got correct firmware for your camera, you’re able to update and upgrade your camera with two different ways. Method 1: you can logon camera’s web interface via web browser and go to “DeviceCfg” > “Advanced” > “Upgrade” , now you can select firmware file, then upgrade firmware remotely.
