New GUI – Start Up Wizard (Device Initialization)

DAHUA XVR 4.0 Setup Description

This article will go over the Initialization process of the units with the New GUI.

Step by Step Instructions

1. When you first turn on the recorder you will be greeted with the region settings. Click on the drop down menu and select “United States” and click Next.

2. Select the proper time zone setting for your region.

3. You will now be prompted to input a password for the admin account.

4. For easier login you can create a pattern, you will need to enter it twice to confirm.

5. Enter your email in order to reset the admin password in case the password was forgotten, you may also setup security questions.

Note: This is the only method to reset the password for XVRs and NVRs. If you skip this step and forget your device’s password, you will need to replace the unit

6. The Auto-check for firmware is not yet implemented in the U.S. so you can just click on next.

7. Make sure the video standard format is set to NTSC and click on “Next”.

8. Here you can go in depth with the time settings. You may want to set up the DST (Daylight savings) so that it takes affect when the time comes.

9. The recorder will be set as a static default IP address you see on the screen. Input an open local IP address and gateway from you network. If you don’t know this information you can select DHCP (highlighted in the red box) in order to automatically receive an IP address from the router.

10. If you have the recorder properly connected to the router the P2P status will indicate “Online” and you can now remote in to the unit with our mobile app/PC app.

11. You can select the Encode settings for each camera by selecting the drop down menu on “Channel”.

12. Select the resolution and image quality for snapshots.

13. Select what you want to to when the hard drive fills up.

14. Here is you recording schedule, the green will indicate 24/7 recording and Yellow will be Motion recording.

15. Here is you Snapshot schedule, same color legend as recording,

16. Once all that is setup you will be greeted with the final Prompt! You are now finished Initializing you new recorder

New GUI- Add a Dahua Device

Description

This article will show you three different methods to add a dahua device to our New GUI recorders. We will be adding a dahua camera with all three methods.

Method 1:

This first method is extremely simple if all the cameras are still set to default credentials and settings. We will do a device search on the network and add them with a click of a button

Method Two:

The second method is used if there’s an existing camera and it’s password was changed. You will use device search to locate the camera and then go to manual add to change the password it’s being added with

Method Three:

This last method is used when Device Search fails and cannot locate the camera on the network. You will need to type in the camera’s information manually.

New GUI – Account Setup

New GUI – Schedule Record Setup

Description

Dahua NVRs and DVRs offer a variety of recording options. You can configure recording schedules based on the following methods:

These schedules can be set individually for each camera or copied to all cameras.

Step by Step Instructions

1. From the Main Menu select “Management”.

2. Select the “Storage” option from the drop-down menu.

3. From the left hand side, select “Schedule”.

4. Select the channel drop-down menu to choose the channel that you want to adjust the recording schedule for.

5. Select “Setting” next to any day of the week.

6. You will have options to set a schedule for General Recording, MD (Motion Detection), Alarm, MD & Alarm, Intel, and POS (Point of Sale). For this tutorial we are using General Recording.

7. Here you can see that you are able to set multiple periods. For this tutorial we will only be setting one period. Check the “General” box, then select the day or days you want to scheduled recordings for, and then select “Save”.

8. Depending on the days selected from the previous step, you will see green colored bars which represents general recording.

9. You can select “Copy” to mirror the same schedule to another channel/camera. Select “Save” in the Copy menu.

10. Select “Save” at the bottom to save all settings. If your changes were successfully saved, a pop-up will appear at the top notifying you as such.

New GUI – Motion Detection Recording Setup

1. On the main menu select Alarm

2. Select Video Detection on the left.
Then select the Motion Detection tab at the top.
Choose the channel from the drop-down next to Channel.
Check the box next to Enable.
Check the box next to Record Channel.
Click on Setting next to Region

3. Highlight the areas in red where you want to track motion.
Then click OK at the bottom

4. Select More at the bottom
Check the boxes next to any of the other options you want to activate when motion is detected.
Click on OK

5. Click on Apply at the bottom.
You will see “Operation Succeeded” at the top when your changes have been saved

6. Click on the Setting drop-down at the top and select Storage

7. Select Schedule on the left.
Then select the Record tab at the top.
Choose the channel from the drop-down next to Channel.
Click on the Setting button next to any day of the week.

8. Check the All box to enable all days of the week.
Check the Motion box for “Period 1”.
Click OK at the bottom.

9. Click on Apply at the bottom to save the settings

10. Select Record Mode on the left.
Then make sure Auto is enabled for the appropriate channel(s).
Click on Apply at the bottom.

11. Click on the Main Menu icon at the top right.
Then select Search

12. Check box next to the channel on the right.
You should see yellow lines/bars for motion recording

Alarm Record Setup

This article is to show you how to setup alarm recording thru new Web GUI.

Note: please refer to product spec sheet for alarm input/output availability. Not all Dahua Recorder support alarm input/output.

Setup Alarm Input

From main menu, click on Alarm. Click on Alarm input. We are using XVR 72 series for this example. The Alarm Input page will launch as shown below:

Select the Alarm input number that you like to use. This number is correspond to the alarm port on the back of recorder.

1. Click Enable to enable the alarm input.

2. Enter Alarm Name. By default is set to AlarmIn#

3. Period is to schedule your Alarm when you want to be enable.

4. With the alarm input, you can trigger recorder’s alarm output.

5. This to select which channel you want recorder to start recording when alarm is triggered.

6. You can call basic PTZ action Preset, Tour, or Pattern when alarm is triggered.

Setup Alarm Recording Schedule

1. From the main menu, click on Management > Storage > Schedule.

2. Select the channel you like to setup.

3. To enable Alarm recording, Click on Setting next to the timeline bar.

4. Set your duration (By default is 24 hour, 00-24). Then select Alarm.

You can select all days to copy the schedule to all week. Click Save.

5. Click Save.

New GUI/Instructions/IVS Record

Description

This article will cover how to configure IVS Recording on a Dahua recorder with the New GUI

Step By Step Instructions

1. From the Main Menu select AI

2. Select Parameters on the left.
Then select Smart Plan below it.
Choose the channel of the camera you are configuring from the Channel drop-down.
Select the IVS “Lightbulb” icon so that it highlights blue.
Then click Apply at the bottom

3. Select IVS on the left.
Choose the channel of the camera from the Channel drop-down.
Then click the + button.
Double-click on the rule type under the Type column to choose the type of IVS rule you want to use.
Adjust all the settings in the Parameters section.
Make sure that the box is checked next to Record Channel and the channel that camera is on is highlighted next to it

4. Draw the rule in the live view on the left by left clicking on it.
Continue to left click to add more segments.
When you are done, right click to finish drawing the rule.
Then click Apply at the bottom

5. Select Setting at the top left.
Then select Storage from the drop-down

6. Select Schedule on the left.
Then select the Record tab at the top.
Choose the channel of the camera from the Channel drop-down.
Then click on Setting to the right of any day of the week

7. Check the box next to All to select all days of the week.
Check the box for Intelligent to the right of Period 1.
(Feel free to adjust the days of the week and the time period for when you want to record IVS events).
Then click on OK

8. You will see blue bars on the schedule representing when IVS events will be recorded, when they are triggered.
Click Apply at the bottom

9. Click on the Menu icon at the top right to go back to the Main Menu.
Then click on Search

10. Check the box next to the camera channel on the right.
Once IVS events have occured they will appear as blue bars on the timeline at the bottom.
Click on the timeline on one of the blue bars to start playing that IVS event

New GUI – Audio Record Setup

Enable audio source

1. 1. Login using a web browser.

2. Click on Setting > Camera.

3. Click on Encode. And then select the camera channel that support audio.

5. Click on the checkmark to enable Audio.

6. Select the Audio source for your HD-CVI camera. If your HD-CVI camera has built-in Microphone, select HDCVI as the audio source. Local option is if you are connecting external microphone to the recorder.

7. Click OK, and then click OK again on the bottom right hand corner.

New GUI – Playback

Description

This article will cover how to play back recorded video on an NVR or DVR with the New GUI

1. From the Main Menu select “Video”

2. The Playback menu should open up and look like this:

3. On the right hand side, there will be a calendar. Select the day that you wish to play back video.
Below the calendar is a list of all the cameras/channels. Check the box next to all the cammeras/channels you would like to play back video from.

4. The video footage willl appear on the timeline at the bottom of the screen. It will be color coded to match the types of video that were recorded.
(See the Legend at the bottom of the screen.)

5. Check or uncheck each type of recording that you want to view. Check the Sync box if you would like to sync playback up on all channels you are viewing.

6. Double click on the graph at the bottom to begin playing back video.

2. Backup page will launch as shown below:

3. You must plug in an external drive to save your downloaded file. Select the path where you want to save the file at. From this pop-up screen, you have an option to create new folder. After you select, click OK.

4. Select the Record Channel you like to search. You can only search 1 channel at a time.

5. Select the Recording Type you like to search.

6. Set the start and end time for searching. Then click Search. All recorded files that meets your search criteria will shown on the list.

7. Select the files, and click Backup.

8. Downloading process start.

9. Once finished, the folder information will pop up, then click OK.

New GUI – P2P Setup

2. You can either set the device on a static ip or turn DHCP on to automatically grab an IP from the network. Save any changes

Remote Access/Remote Access Setup Port Forwarding

Create port forwarding rule in the router

1. Connect NVR to network with a CAT5 cable.

2. Download and install ConfigTool from DahuaSecurity.com, under Support->Download Center->Software

3. Run the ConfigTool.

4. The ConfigTool should display your IP Camera. Click the, “” icon to open Internet Explorer and access your NVR.

5. Configure Internet Explorer security settings to allow the plugs to work. Link to Internet Explorer Setup

6. Login with the default credentials: User Name: admin Passsword: admin

7. Under, Main Menu -> Setup -> TCP/IP Change the IP Camera to, “Static” if the camera is currently set to, “DHCP”

8. Open another tab and enter the, “Gateway” address listed under your NVR’s Network settings. Example: 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1, 10.0.10.1

9. Login to your gateway and locate the, “Port Forwarding” section.

10. Create port forwarding rules for each port you wish to forward for the NVR. (Usually you will only need to forward the HTTP and the TCP port.) Default Ports: TCP: 37777 UDP: 37778 HTTP: 80 RTSP: 554 HTTPS: 443

11. The end result should look like the below image. We used a Cisco router for this example.

12. Hit, “Save” in the gateway interface, and open another tab.

13. Go to, “www.canyouseeme.org” and check that the ports you opened on the gateway.

How to Access System Using P2P via Mobile Application

Description

View your recorder and cameras on the go. With Dahua’s mobile application IDMSS(IOS)/GDMSS(Android) allows you to add Dahua recorders and cameras to the mobile app using P2P.

How to Download and Prepare Firmware

Description

This guide will show how to download and prepare the firmware file for a Dahua device.

Firmware files for Dahua devices can be found at Firmware by Device or the specific product page for the device

Firmware is typical provided in a ZIP file, a compressed file format

This file will contain the actual firmware file, which needs to be extracted from the ZIP file in preparation for the upgrade

Single Device Upgrade

1. Open ConfigTool and click on Search Setting at the top

2. Check the boxes for both Current Segment Search and Other Segment Search.
Enter the IP range for the device you are looking for in Start IP and End IP.
Enter the login information for that device in Username and Password.
Then click OK at the bottom

3. Click on Device Upgrade on the left.
Find the device you want to upgrade in the list and click on the Folder icon next to it under the Upgrade File Path column

4. Use the file explorer to find the firmware file on your computer and select it.
Then click on Open

5. Verify the file path is listed next to the device in the list.
Then click on the Upgrade icon to the right of the device in the Operate column

6. Click on OK

7. The progress bar will fill up as the device is upgraded

8. Once the device has been successfully upgraded you will see a Green Check Mark next to it in the list

Batch Device Upgrade

1. Open ConfigTool and click on Search Setting at the top

2. Check the boxes for both Current Segment Search and Other Segment Search.
Enter the IP range for the devices you are looking for in Start IP and End IP.
Enter the login information for those devices in Username and Password.
Then click OK at the bottom

3. Click on Device Upgrade on the left.
Find the devices you want to upgrade in the list and check the boxes next to them. (Make sure all devices you check require the same firmware.)
Then click on Batch Upgrade at the top

4. Click on OK

5. Click on Browse

6. Use the file explorer to find the firmware file on your computer and select it.
Then click on Open

7. Click OK at the bottom

8. The progress bars will fill up as the devices are upgraded

9. Once the devices have been successfully upgraded you will see Green Check Marks next to them in the list

Recorder Firmware Update via Online

Description

This page will show you how to update your Dahua Recorder online.

Note: All devices should be “Factory Reset” once the firmware update is complete.

When the NVR detects there is a newer firmware in the server, a ‘1′ icon will appear at the System icon.

The entire process takes about 5 minutes depending on network connection.

1. From Live View

Right click, select Main Menu

2. Click Operation

4. The upgrade menu will show if a new firmware version is available

5. Click Upgrade Now to begin the update process

6. A prompt will appear to confirm that Surveillance will be paused during the upgrade process

Click OK

7. The firmware file will begin to download

8. After the download is complete the unit will automatically begin the firmware upgrade

9. The unit will reboot as the final step of the upgrade

10. Once the firmware update is complete the unit will reboot. A factory default is recommended after a firmware update

From Live View, right click Select Main Menu

11. Click Operation

12. Click System Maintain

13. Click Default

14. Click Factory Default

15. A prompt will appear to confirm the factory default

Click OK

16. The unit will reboot

17. When the unit boots back up it will be factory defaulted and ready for the Device Initialization process

1. Enter the IP of the device into a browser

At the Web Login

Enter the Username and Password

Click Login

2. Click Operation

3. Click System Maintain

4. Click Upgrade

5. The upgrade menu will show if a new firmware version is available

6. Click Upgrade Now

7. A prompt will appear to confirm that Surveillance will be paused during the upgrade process

Click OK

8. The firmware file will begin to download

9. After the download is complete the unit will automatically begin the firmware upgrade

10. Once the firmware update is complete the unit will reboot. A factory default is recommended after a firmware update

1. Connect NVR to network with a CAT5 cable.

2. Download and install ConfigTool from DahuaSecurity.com, under Support->Download Center->Software

3. Run the ConfigTool.

4. The ConfigTool should display your IP Camera. Click the, “” icon to open Internet Explorer and access your NVR.

5. Configure Internet Explorer security settings to allow the plugs to work. Link to Internet Explorer Setup

6. Login with the default credentials: User Name: admin Passsword: admin

7. Under, Main Menu -> Setup -> TCP/IP Change the IP Camera to, “Static” if the camera is currently set to, “DHCP”

8. Open another tab and enter the, “Gateway” address listed under your NVR’s Network settings. Example: 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1, 10.0.10.1

9. Login to your gateway and locate the, “Port Forwarding” section.

10. Create port forwarding rules for each port you wish to forward for the NVR. (Usually you will only need to forward the HTTP and the TCP port.) Default Ports: TCP: 37777 UDP: 37778 HTTP: 80 RTSP: 554 HTTPS: 443

11. The end result should look like the below image. We used a Cisco router for this example.

12. Hit, “Save” in the gateway interface, and open another tab.

13. Go to, “www.canyouseeme.org” and check that the ports you opened on the gateway.

1. Locate the serial number of your NVR or DVR. The serial number can be found at the following locations:

2. Launch SmartPSS. At the main page click Devices

3. Click +Add to add a device

4. The Manual Add window will appear.

5. Use the drop-down box to change ‘Method to add’ to ‘SN(For Device Support P2P)’

6. Enter the Serial Number for the unit in the field SN.

Enter the username and password for the device then click Add

7. The added device will appear in the Device List

8. From the main page of SmartPSS click Live View

9. The added device will apear in the Device List and can be expanded to view all video channels from the device.

DDNS stands for Dynamic Domain Name System. The main advantage for DDNS is If you have a dynamic ip address, (where your address can change monthly by your ISP if not static) the DDNS service will track and update with your new IP address automatically. So no matter what your numeric IP address is, your DDNS address will work even if your numeric IP address changes.

Step 1. From the Main Menu Select Network

Step 2. Select DDNS ➞ Check off the “Enable” box.

Step 3. Select “DDNS Type” from the Drop Down menu. Please Note depending on the series model of the recorder you will have either Dahua DDNS or Quick DDNS as one of the options from the drop down menu.

After DDNS is selected it will automatically generate a Host IP. In this case because Dahua DDNS is an option it is www.dahuaddns.com . If Quick DDNS is an option it will automatically generate the designated www.quickddns.com as the host IP.

Step 4. Select either “Default Domain” or “Custom Domain Name”. By Selecting “Default Domain” a Domain Name for the device recorder is the MAC address for this recorder. In this case 4C11BF0B0436.dahuaddns.com is the designated default domain name for this particular recorder. By selecting “Custom Domain Name” you may choose a custom name up to 60 max characters. Please note if you are using a custom domain name you cannot use the same custom domain name from or for another device.

Step 5. Input your email address ➞ Select “Test” and if successful it will prompt a pop up “Successfully Registered” ➞ Select “Yes” ➞ Select “Apply” ➞ Select “OK” to save settings.

Step 1. DDNS Registration Click on Not registered link → Enter the registration page → Follow system instructions to complete registration.

How To Setup FTP Snapshot

Please Note You must have an FTP currently set up for this to work.

Step 1. From the Main Menu Select Camera > Encode > Snapshot

Step 2. Select Manual Snap Time. This selection will determine how many snapshots are taken at a time.> Select Channel you want snapshot enabled for > Select Mode Trigger or Timing. Trigger is for events such as motion detect or alarm. You can use timing to set periods for which day of the week and or time you want to snapshot > Select image size > select image quality > select interval > Select “Apply” > Select “OK”

• For Timing Go to the Storage tab > Select Schedule Select Snapshot > Choose which type of event snap shot such as motion, alarm and or IVS if model has IVS capabilities. > Set schedule for which event for the periods, days and hours you wany snapshots set for.

• You can also set the schedule by selecting the settings icon.

•For Trigger Go to Event tab > Choose event type > Check Enable > Check Snapshot and channels > Repeat process for the different types of events > Apply > Save

Except the above mentioned addresses of special meaning, you can use other addresses. For example:

After you logged in the Web, the Web can automatically get multiple cast address and add it to the multiple cast groups. You can enable real-time monitor function to view the view.

Please note multiple cast function applies to special series only.

PPPoE

PPPoE interface is shown in the above image. Input “PPPoE name” and “PPPoE password” you get from your ISP (Internet service provider). Click save button, you need to restart to activate your configuration. After rebooting, NVR will connect to internet automatically. The IP in the PPPoE is the NVR dynamic value. You can access this IP to visit the unit.

In this article we will see how to configure an ALARMBOX in the recorders X-SECURITY

:XVR -VS2, -H and -HEVC.

For this tutorial we have used the following references:

XS-XVR6116-4KL-HEVC + XS-ALARMBOX16-6 + XS-PIRW-2EHAC.

Very important, the recorders must be updated to the latest version of firmware available, it is essential.

Step 1: Access the recorder and select the option “ALARM”

Step 2: Access the “ALARM INPUT” option

After accessing this option, we have the possibility to check the status of the ALARMBOX and be sure that it is working and also check which is its address.

3rd Step: Once the Alarmbox status has been checked, we are going to configure the HDCVI alarm.

In this case, as we are using a camera with PIR (in our example the XS-PIRW-2EHAC) we enable the HDCVI Alarm and then we will proceed to make the linkage with the desired alarm output.

In this option, we can configure the period in which the alarm is going to work, to which alarm output we can associate the event of the selected channel, configure the PTZ of another channel and, in advanced options, we can choose other options such as send e-mail, send a beep, send messages, and so on.

Step 4: Connect the alarm output by clicking on ALARM OUT.

If we had more than one Alarmbox, we would have to choose the corresponding one (up to 4). In this case we leave selected the Alarmbox 1 and the Alarm 1 output.

After these steps, the alarm output 1 of the Alarmbox will automatically be activated when the XS-PIRW-2EHAC detects motion.

Remember that this example is basic, we could go further and perform other actions that can be comfortably explored in the ALARMBOX configuration menu.

Reset of IP Dahua and X-Security cameras via mobile app and reset boton

Web user interface of the IP Camera

1. Type the IP of the IP camera into a web browser

2. Click the ‘Forgot password?’ option

3. A prompt will appear to confirm the reset

4. A QR code will be displayed.

This code must be scanned using the mobile app, either iDMSS or gDMSS on a mobile phone

The Security Code will be sent to the email address that was set during the device’s initialization; the email will be shown partially below the QR code

On iDMSS / gDMSS

1. Open the iDMSS / gDMSS app

Select ‘Me’ in the lower right portion of the screen

2. Select ‘Password Security’

3. Select ‘Reset Device Password’

4. Scan the QR Code from the Web UI of the IP Camera

Once scanned, after a few minutes you will receive an email with a Security Code

5. Enter the Security Code into the Web UI of the camera, then select Next

The camera’s password will be reset and you will be able to set a new password for the device

Reset via Physical Button

Depending on the model of your IP Camera, there could be a physical reset button on the outside body of the camera, or inside the camera body

1. Reset: Press the reset button for 5 seconds

2. Serial port connection: Please use connector and weld it on the package of the serial port

The picture below regards the cable coming out of the camera; you need an extension cable to
do the reset. Shortage the Blue wire (RESET) and the Orange wire (GND) for at least 5
seconds until the camera restarts

The pictures below are the sample of multi-function cable, and the reset is a button. (The
appearance may not exactly the same)

There is also a multiple-function combination cable for even earlier models; the reset terminal goes together with the alarm terminal (you can find the identifications on the label), you need shortage the RESET and GND pin (7&6 in the picture below) for at least 5 seconds to make a reset.

How to access X-SECURITY video recorders via P2P on a mobile application

First we must access the NETWORK menu of the recorder:

Open the mobile app

In the initial screen, we select the upper left icon (Home).

Then press “DEVICE” and then select the + symbol to add devices.

Then, pressing SN/SCAN, both options will take us directly to the camera to read the QR code of the recorder, taking us to the next screen of the mobile app

The next step is to check user and password.

Checking and Updating Firmware on X-SECURITY Recorders

In this guide we are going to indicate the necessary steps to check and update the firmware in the X-SECURITY recorders, both in the firmware version V3.2.

For this update we will use the Internet Explorer and we must install the plugins of the recorder to the web browser.

Access the recorder and then go to INFO

First we have to check the model of the recorder and the firmware version that is currently installed.

Then we go to the Visiotech website and look for the recorder, in this case the XS-XVR6104, click on Downloads and then apply the FIRMWARE filter.

Our recorder currently has the firmware System Version: 3.210.0001.3, Build Date: 12-12-2016 and the Visiotech web version is System Version: 3.218.0000002.5. Therefore we proceed to download the firmware:

The download file is a .zip file, so let’s unpack it. The file we are interested in for the update via web is the .bin file.

Then go back to the recorder, press CONFIG / SYSTEM / UPGRADE and then look for the file you have downloaded by pressing Browse.

Once the file is selected, we proceed to finish the update by pressing UPGRADE.

To update the firmware of an X-SECURITY recorder with Firmware version V4.0.X or higher, the procedure will be the same, however, it changes a little the interface of the recorder.

For this procedure we will also use Internet Explorer as a browser to access the device and perform the update.

After accessing the recorder the first thing to do is to check the firmware version, press Management on the upper left side.

Then we choose INFO.

We see that the recorder is the XS-XVR6208-4KL-HEVC and the firmware version is System Version: V4.000.0000001.13, Build Date: 2019-01-24.

We download the most recent version from the Visiotech website and proceed to update.

In the option MANAGEMENT / SYSTEM / UPGRADE

Press Browse and look for the file that has been downloaded from the Visiotech website.

Remember that the file is a .zip file and you will have to unzip the files contained in it; the update file we are interested in for this procedure is the .bin file.

Once updated, we can check again the version to have the confirmation that it was successfully updated.

How to access an X-SECURITY recorder via Web with a P2P connection

We already know that many parameters can only be changed from the web interface of a recorder or directly on the recorder itself.

The problem starts after an installation is finished and the recorder is added to our SmartPss only by P2P.

Many times we are unable to open the ports on the router because we do not have access to it, but it is possible to access the recorder via browser to change certain parameters only with P2P access.

How to enter the OSD menu of X-Security / Dahua 4N1 or HDCVI cameras

The first thing to emphasize is that the OSD menu cannot be accessed using CVBS video technology, which implies that with a traditional composite or analog video format we will not be able to access the OSD menu.

To be able to access the device, the camera must be in HDCVI, HDTVI or AHD format.

If it is in CVBS format we must use a PFM820 control switch, interposing it between the camera and the recorder, and switch the format to HDCVI or HDTVI preferably.

With a recorder you can access from local with a mouse and screen or from the web interface, accessed through the PTZ controls.

Separate outputs in X-Security

Usually we are going to find VGA and HDMI video outputs, which normally show the same information, but there are also some models that allow to display different video signals (independent outputs).

The independent output function in X-Security / Dahua is normally available when the device has 2 HDMI outputs.

By default all channels of the video recorder are displayed when the monitor and mouse are connected, in the default view.

To prevent all or some of the channels from being displayed, we have to modify the user group “user”, as this is the default group.

You will only be able to access all or part of the channels if you create a user group with privileges. Having to create a user within this group, we can also limit access within the channels that already have permissions.

Recorder Initialization

• When the recorder boots up the first time, you will see the Device Initialization window come up. The first screen has you choose a Location (Country), Language, and Video Standard. The most important option is the Video Standard. It needs to be set to NTSC for use in the United States. When the settings are verified correct, click the Next button.

• The 2nd window allows you to select your Time Zone and manually enter your time. Verify your settings and click the Next button.

• On the following page, you will set the device password for the admin user account. You will be have to enter a password that has a minimum of 8 characters. Passwords are case-sensitive, and you can use letters, numbers, and the symbols found along the top row of the onscreen keyboard. NOTE: Some software (ConfigTool on Mac OS, for example) will not allow you to use anything other than letters and numbers for the password. A minimum 8-character password with a combination of letters and numbers is sufficient for security purposes, as our recorders are less susceptible to Brute-force password attacks than other devices due to the account lockout. The Prompt Question field is used to create a password reminder, which can be viewed from the login screen once the recorder has been initialized.

• The next step is to create an Unlock Pattern connecting at least 4 of the 9 dots in a  3×3 grid. The pattern can be used in lieu of using the username & password on the local monitor. Left-click & hold the left mouse button to draw the pattern. If you choose to draw the pattern, you will be asked to draw it once, then draw it again to set it. Once you draw the pattern a second time, the screen will automatically change to the Password Protection screen. If you choose not to use the pattern, click the Skip button.

• The last step in the process is THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP if you wish to prevent the need for a backdoor password. You will be asked to choose and answer 3 Security Questions that will allow you or your client to reset the password. You may choose meaningful questions and answer them with unique answers, or you may choose to give the same answer to each question. Each question has a number of options, which can be accessed by left-clicking once anywhere in the Question field. If you choose not to set the Security Questions, click the Green button next to Security Questions to disable them. When you are finished with the Security Questions, click the Save button to continue.

• After the Device Initialization is complete, you will be taken through the Startup Wizard. Using the Startup Wizard will guide you through enabling auto-updates (although this is an option on our recorders, we do NOT yet have an upgrade server that will push out firmware updates to our cameras or recorders), general settings, Network Time Protocol (NTP) & Daylight Saving Time (DST), Network, P2P, Basic, Encode, and Schedule settings for your recorder. All of the Settings in the Startup Wizard can be configured later using the main menu. When you finish the Startup Wizard, click the OK button when you see the Thank you for purchasing our product prompt, and your recorder is ready to go.

• To reset a forgotten password, right-click on the screen to bring up the System Login window. Click either the Forgot Pattern or Switch User buttons to go to the traditional login screen. There are icons to the right of both the User Name and Password fields. The icon next to User Name will show the Prompt Question that was set when the password was established when the mouse hovers over the icon. If the password is still unknown, click the Forgot Password icon to the right of the Password field . This will bring up the Reset Password – Security Questions screen, shown below. 

• Type the Security Question answers into their respective fields (answers are case-sensitive), then click the Next button. On the next screen, you will be asked to enter & confirm your new password for the admin account. Enter the password in the boxes next to New Password and Confirm Password, then click the Save button. 

• If the password is accepted, you will see the Successfully reset password message. Click OK on that message, and you will be taken to the System Login screen, where you will need to type your new password to access the settings. 

• Enter your new password to login.

Acquiring an Unlock Code

Users that no longer have credentials to login will need to fill out a Forgot My Password request using this link. An iCare specialist will work with you to facilitate this and provide an unlock code.

Prerequisites

• Serial Number of unit (This will be needed to generate Unlock Codes for units purchased after 2016)
• Date the recorder is currently set to (This is important in generating the proper Unlock Code as well)
• HDMI Monitor and USB Mouse attached to Recorder.  Login must be completed using the local GUI system. (Unlock Codes will not work through web GUI or software)

Security Question Login Method (If you have set Security Questions)

1. Using a mouse attached to the Recorder, right click and select “Main Menu”. This will populate the login screen. Click on “Forgot Pattern” as shown on image below.
   
   
2. Click on the “Forgot Pattern” as shown below.
   

   

3.  Answer the security questions then click “Next.”
   
4.  If answered correctly, you will be prompted to create a new password and to confirm the new password as shown below:
   

Unlock Code Login Method (If not using Security Questions Method)

1. Using a mouse attached to the Recorder, right click and select “Main menu”. This will populate the login screen. If your login screen requires a pattern, click on “Forgot Pattern” as shown on image below. Otherwise move to the next step.
   
   
2. Login with username “admin” and the Unlock code (or one of the unlock codes) given.
   
   
3. If successful, you may have a prompt populate as shown below. If so, create a new password under “New Password”  and type in the same password under “Confirm Password.” You can also create a Password Hint. The new password setup is now complete. If you do not have this prompt, you will be logged in to the Main Menu (as admin). Follow the next steps.
   
   
4. In the Main Menu, go to Settings > System > Account. Click on “Add User” as shown below. You will need to create an new admin level account (group level set to admin) to modify the “admin” account. This is because user accounts cannot be modified if they are currently logged in.
   
   
5.  Once you have created a new account, right click and go to Main Menu. Select “Shutdown” and then under the drop down, select “Logout” or “Logout Menu User” as shown below. This will log you out of the “admin” account so you can login with the new account that was set up in the previous step.
   
   
6. Right click then select “Main Menu.” Login with the new account that was set up in Step 4 then go to Settings > System > Account. Click on the “admin” account then click on “Modify”
   
   
7. Under “Old Password”, input the Unlock Code. Input a new password under “new Password” and copy that password under “Confirm Password.” Click “Save” when done.

Password Management

The management of usernames and passwords lies solely with the end customer. It is their responsibility to document and save these credentials.  IC Realtime does not save your device login information and is not able to provide any user created or changed user names or passwords. IC Realtime strongly urges end customers to document security system credentials in some type of password management system, like KeePass or LastPass.

Best Practices

• Document all of your credentials in a Password Management System, like KeePass or LastPass.
• When setting up a new recorder, follow the Initialization process and answer the security questions. In the event of a lost password, the security questions can be answered to reset the admin password (the security questions can be the same answers. It is recommended to document the questions and answers as well)
• Create a different admin level user / account as a backup as well as different accounts for lower level user access only.
• Setup a password Hint. If you have this option, creating a password hint will help to remember the password.

Lost Remote Access

Remote Access is the ability to see your cameras when you are not on site and there are two ways you can get remote access for your cameras. You can connect over a Peer to Peer (P2P) connection, by using the serial number of the recorder, or by port forwarding and setting up a DDNS. First verify which one you are connecting with before proceeding.

Q. Why can I only see my cameras when I am home?

A. Your device is most likely added for local access by the devices local IP. For remote access, please refer to our help documents on setting up P2P or by Port Forwarding.

Q. Why can’t I see any cameras on my phone but it works on other devices?

A. On some systems only 1 user can log into an account at once unless you check off “reusable” inside of the account settings of the recorder.

Q. Why can’t I see my cameras after changing internet provider / WiFi / router?

A. Changing your network / network devices can cause your recorder to not show your cameras remote because of a couple reasons. If you are using P2P, you can simply enable DHCP under TCP/IP and it should allow access.  If not Click Here for further P2P troubleshooting. If you are using a DDNS or static external IP then you will need to DHCP your recorder under TCP/IP and port forward your TCP port again. Once port forwarded, go to your DDNS settings under network and test the DDNS to ensure it picked up your new external IP.

Q. Why can’t I see my cameras after I reset my router?

A. If you reset your router and are using P2P then you need to DHCP your IP and it will connect again. If you port forwarded and can not see your cameras then this means the port forwarding rules you set for the recorder have been wiped. You will need to go into the router and port forward your TCP port for remote access.

If you have attempted to change the display output of your recorder to a higher resolution (e.g., 4K Ultra HD) but your monitor does not support 4K Ultra HD, there is a great likelihood that your monitor will (1) lose video signal, (2) turn black and (3) lose the live view.

Restore your recorder’s display output to default settings

1. Unplug your recorder’s power adapter from the power outlet.

2. While holding down the Info/panic button, plug your recorder’s power adapter back into the power outlet. Let go of the Info/panic button once the Lorex logo appears on your monitor.

After the reset, your recorder will display the lowest available resolution so that it becomes compatible with a variety of low-res monitors.

Step by Step Instructions

1. On the main menu go to Management

2. Click on Camera

3. Under Camera select “Video Detect” to enter the Motion Detect settings and enable the functions for your application

4. Click on “Settings” next to region to modify hot spots.

Note-Colored boxes detect motion, transparent boxes do not detect motion

5. Click on “More Settings” to open up the rest of the options for Motion Detect

6. After configuring the settings, check “Enable MD” to enable motion detect and save the configurations by clicking on “Save”

7. We need to setup a schedule now so go to “Management” and click on “Storage”

8. Select the channel you are working with and go to settings

9. For this example we are doing Motion recording only for everyday of the week, so we disabled General recording and only kept Motion

10. After setting up a schedule make sure you save any changes. Next go to “Record”

• Note– Clicking to “Copy” will allow you copy the current settings to other channels

11. Make sure the channel(s) you are working with are set to “Auto” for the streams you want to enable. After doing so, exit the “Storage” tab.

Firmware Check

Firmware Upgrading From Local Menu

Prepare one USB flash disk and copy the firmware to the USB flash disk. Insert the USB storage device containing the upgrade files into the USB port of the device.

Path: Main Menu > SYSTEM > UPGRADE

Click System Upgrade.

Click the file that you want to upgrade.

Click Start.

Local U-boot Upgrading

U-boot is a very simple and easy way to upgrade the device.

Prepare one U disk.

Decompress the firmware file and put u-boot.bin.img and update.img to the root file of the U disk.

Shut down the device, insert the U disk to the USB port of the device.

Power on the device. The system will upgrade it automatically. Then pull out the U disk.

NOTE: U-boot is not applicable for N8 platform XVR.

TFTP Serial Port Upgrade

For some difficult cases, the CVI DVR is down or failed to upgrade in other ways, then we can use TFTP serial port upgrade.

If the computer has RS232 serial port, then no need the drive and USB-232 converter.

If the computer doesn’t have RS232 serial port, then first install the drive of USB-232 converter.

Insert the USB-232 converter to the computer, it will automatically identify and run it .

You can make sure the serial port number from the path below:

Right click computer-attributes- device management-port(COM and PLT)

TFTP Serial Port Upgrade

Install secureCRT and run it, create a serial port connection.

Click File-Quick Connection

Choose protocol as serial protocol

Set the port as the real port number of the serial port

Make sure the data input is the same with the ones on the recorder.

Select Baud rate, which is 115200 by default.

Data bits is 8 by default.

Untick  RTS/CTS, by default, it is ticked.

Enter serial window, reboot CVI DVR manually, and screen will be printed as below:

When it shows Hit any key to stop autoboot, input 3 “*”quickly in 1 second, otherwise you cannot  enter the next # mode.

When you enter the # mode successfully, then you can edit the serial values.

Firmware Upgrade for CVI Camera

You can upgrade the CVI camera via local menu of CVI DVR

Main Menu > CAMERA > COAXIAL UPGRADE

You need to insert the USB storage device that contains the upgrading files.

Click Browse.

Select the upgrade file and then click OK.

Select the check box of the channel that you want to upgrade.

Click Start Upgrade.

If the upgrading is successful, the system pops up a message indicating the upgrading is completed.

【VLC Media Player Introduction 】

VLC media player can play RTSP real-time transmit stream, helping us troubleshoot the docking problem when connecting the IPC to XVR.

URL format is as follows:

rtsp://<User Name>:<Password>@<IP Address>:<Port>/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=0
channel: Channel, 1-768; subtype: Code-Stream Type, Main Stream 0, Sub Stream 1.

Install VLC media player.

Run VLC media player.

Click Media and choose open network stream

Play the video and check if it is the problem of XVR or IPC.

If the VLC stream from the IPC is normal, then we can judge that it is the problem of XVR. We suggest you capture a package for analysis.

Please filter IP package during the process to make the package small.

First start capturing, then use VLC to call the stream, make sure the whole RTSP connection process is captured.

【Wireshark】

lInstall Wireshark and run it.

Choose the net card you want to capture and click Start.

It will display the live capturing interface.

After the problem recurring, stop capturing and save it.

IP Filter Function

If you want to filter the IP address of CVI DVR, then you can filter:

【RS232 Serial Port Printing】

For some difficult cases, we can get its serial port serial printing information for analysis.

If the computer has RS232 serial port, then no need the drive and USB-232 converter.

After the operation is done, please don’t forget to set the dh_keyboard value back to 1.

【USB Flash Disk Printing】

Though RS232 log info is more complete, in some conditions, we also recommend USB flash disk upgrading as it is simple and easy to operate it.

Make sure dh_keyboard=1, by default, its value is 1. Prepare one USB flash disk.

Insert the USB flash disk before power on CVI DVR.

Power it on, when the problem recurs, shut down the device via menu manually.

Take the USB disk and copy all the files in the USB disk and send it to R&D.

Capturing Packet and Backing up in USB Flash Disk

For some cases, we also need to capture packets to analyze, for example, device becomes abnormal after connecting the network cable, video lag when remote visit. Generally speaking, we can locate all the causes via RS232 interface, very few cases needs packet capture.

Path: Main Menu > INFO > NETWORK > Network Test

Connect a USB storage device to the Device.

Click Refresh.

The Device starts detecting the USB storage device and displays its name in the Device Name box.

Select the route of the data that you want to capture and back up.

In the Network Sniffer Packet Backup area, click Browse.

Select the route.

Click the icon to start packet capturing and backing up.

Only the data packet of one LAN can be captured at one time.

After capturing starts, you can exit the Test interface to perform other operations such as web login and monitoring.

Click the icon to stop capturing.

The backup data is saved in the selected route under the naming style “LAN name-time.pcap.“ You can open it by using Wireshark software.
