UPDATING YOUR SECURITY CAMERA FIRMWARE

Firmware Updates

In order to do a firmware update you must first identify the EXACT model number of your DVR or NVR unit. The model number can be found on the sticker located on the bottom or side of the unit. All CCTV Security Pros model numbers begin with the prefix “CSP” (Example, CSP-XXXX). Please match your model number to the list provided below. You will also need to locate your order confirmation email to determine when the unit was purchased. Once you have identified the correct model number and firmware please continue by following the instructions below.

Upgrading Your Firmware

Please identify the correct model from the list of firmware provided below.

Please select the appropriate link and download the .bin file. Once the download is completed copy the .bin file to a USB Flash/Thumb Drive. We suggest formatting your USB drive to FAT32 before attempting the update.

**Note : Units with Build Dates of 2013 or earlier may require you to rename the file to “update.bin” before launching the upgrade.

Once the .bin file has been transferred onto your drive you can insert the USB Drive into either of the two USB ports found on your unit. One can be found on the front panel and one can be found on the rear of the unit.

Once the drive is inserted into the unit go to the following menu:

Main Menu –> Setting –> System –> Upgrade. Click Start. Find and select the .bin file you transferred to the USB Drive and Click Start.

*NOTE – On select models you will need to go to:

Main Menu–> Info –> Version –> Upgrade

The unit will now begin upgrading to the latest Firmware Revision that is available for your device. Once completed the system will reboot. After the reboot we recommend doing the following:

1) Remove the USB Drive from your system.

User Account Locked

Your system will lock itself out when you or someone else has attempted to log into your DVR

with an incorrect user/password combination more than three times within 30 minutes

When this happens you have two options.

1. Wait 30 minutes after the last failed login attempt and try again.

2. Reboot the DVR by using the rear toggle switch or by unplugging.

When the unit powers back on try and login with the default username and passwords.

If neither of these passwords get you into your system you will need to email us at

and request a Master Password. Once we can confirm your

account we will happily be able to provide you with the correct login credentials.

Please have your Order Number or DVR/NVR Model Number when requesting a Master

Password.

IP Camera Harness Repair

If your connector looks like the ones below, moisture has gotten into your RJ45 connector. The number one cause of premature IP camera failure has to do with improper weatherproofing techniques. If caught early enough a simple cotton swab and rubbing alcohol will clean that connector right up! You may need to resort to some heavier duty electrical contact cleaner if the cotton swab method does not work.

If all else fails and the connector is too far gone and cleaning it will not work, you will need to perform a harness repair.

In order to perform the repair you will need:

1 x RJ45 Crimp Tool1 x Male RJ45 1 x Female to Female RJ45

Connector

1 x Your choice of weatherproofing ( Weatherproof junction box or weatherproof Female to Female connection)

Start by removing the RJ45 end off of your IP cameras harness. Be sure

Strip back the outside insulation to expose the internal cables.

Organize the cables to match the pinout of the IP camera. Slide the organized cables into the connector and crimp. All CCTV Security Pros IP cameras will use this pinout.

Connect your Female to Female RJ45 connector to check your work, you should have a functioning IP camera now that its void of all corrision.

Now that the IP camera has been repaired we still need to weatherproof this connection. It is now more vulnerable than ever!

Consider using a weatherproof junction box to make your connections in, or perhaps a weatherproof Female to Female connector.

Remember that different coupling styles exist so make sure that you are informed about how to use the coupler before you start crimping wires.

Troubleshooting Steps 4/8/16 Channel

(Cannot Find the Network Host)

To solve the error, please verify that the camera is properly plugged into the back of the system. If you unplug and re-plug it back in this should verify it is connected physically.

If the issue continues go to Main Menu > Camera > Camera List and delete the camera with the red status from the bottom list and do a Device Search to verify the camera is showing up on the top list.

If the camera does not show up this means the cable is not connecting properly, which could either mean the camera is not getting power or isn’t transmitting data. The best way to determine whether it is an issue with the Camera or Cable is to bench test the camera on a known working cable.

If it does show up but it has a different IP Address, please confirm the IP Address is in the 10.1.1.1-255 range (This is the default range of the internal Switch).

If the camera is not within the correct IP range, then the camera could need to be modified on the top list to properly connect in which you would select the camera, hit modify, type in the camera’s username and password and set the IP address to DHCP to automatically obtain an IP or statically assign the camera an IP address to match your switch range and gateway.

If the camera is on the correct range, you should be able to add it to the bottom list and it will come up with Green or Red, If Red double check the error message on the live view on the system.

If the Error says Invalid Username or Password, go back to Settings > Camera > Camera List and modify the camera at the bottom of the list and type in the correct login information.

If the error says Cannot Find the Network Host, check the IP Address is in the correct range, if it is you need to verify your cable is good by testing the camera with another known good cable or testing on a short patch cable as the cable could be experiencing packet loss.

Make sure the cable is T568B Standard and is within 100 meters (328 feet.)

Night Vision Issues

When a camera goes into night vision mode, the infrared LEDs around the lens turn on. If the video signal at nighttime or in dark locations is washed out, foggy or you see “halos” on the screen it is because the infrared LEDs are reflecting back into the camera lens.

1.With Dome Cameras, the gasket that separates the lens from the infrared LEDs needs to be firmly pressed up against the inside of the Dome cover.

2.With Bullet cameras the sun hood on the top may be extended too far out, allowing

the LEDs to reflect off of it at night.

3.If you camera is mounted vertically on a surface such as siding, brick, drywall, etc be sure that the camera isnt pointing too close to the mounting surface. This will cause the

cameras LEDs to focalize on the mounting surface and greatly reduce the Infrared distance.

4.This can also happen on horizontal mounting surfaces such as eves and soffits. You may need to make small adjustments to the camera in order to clear up the picture and

get the most infrared range and clarity.

Adding 3rd Party Cameras to Blue Line NVR

We always recommend using Blue Line IP cameras with our Blue Line NVRs for the easiest and most complete experience possible. However, we understand that using 3rd Party Cameras can be beneficial in some applications. This guide will explain the basics of adding a 3rd Party IP camera into your Blue Line NVR.

Information you will need to add 3rd Party Cameras.

•Be sure your camera is ONVIF compliant.

•The Username and Password for the IP camera.

•The IP address of camera (may require software downloads from manufacturer)

With your camera attached to one of the PoE ports on your NVR, you’ll navigate to the camera settings from the main menu.

A 3rd Party Camera normally will not add itself, so you will need to go into the Camera List and click on Search Device. If the camera is detected, you will be able to select it and click on the Modify IP button toward the middle of the screen.

When modifying the IP address of the camera the default IP range for the PoE ports on the NVR is

10.1.1.xxx so you’ll want to make sure the camera is on the same range.

You will need to know the camera’s password to change the IP Address. Once the IP is successfully changed it should update after clicking Search Device again

Check the box to the left of the camera and click Add. Most cameras will show up with the Manufacturer as ONVIF. If they do not and show up as red, you will need to click on the edit button on the camera and change the Manufacturer to match the camera’s manufacturer, or to ONVIF if the manufacturer of the camera is not listed.

While in the modify window you can also enter the password for the camera in the password field. Once that is completed you can click OK. After a few seconds the status should change to a green icon and then you should be able to see the camera’s live view. Please keep in mind that if the Error Message says Invalid Username or Password you may need to login to the camera from the Web and setup an Onvif User for the system to login with.

If the camera is still showing offline, setting the manufacturer to PELCO can sometimes resolve the issue.

Additional 3rd Party Camera Information

•Cameras MUST be Onvif compliant!

•When searching for your camera you may see an error that reads “Operation Failed.” This message is normal when attempting to add 3rd party cameras. This is because the system is still currently logging into the camera.

•Be sure your camera’s firmware is up to date. It is a good idea to make sure your NVR firmware is up to date as well. Even though camera firmware might be up to date. The camera may still not work properly or simply may not be compatible.

•If you are connecting your cameras to a network and not directly into your POE ports, please make sure your NVR is also connected to that same network! The NVR and camera must be in the same LAN to find one another.

•The built in PoE ports have an internal switch set to 10.1.1.1. Please make sure your camera is set in range of the built-in switch address. Your IP camera must match the subnet of the internal POE switch.

•Setting your cameras to DHCP to adapt to the new environment is a good idea if you are not too familiar with static IP addresses. Once done we recommend setting it back to a static IP address.

•If you require any assistance getting 3rd Party Cameras working on your NVR, you can reach out to our technicians to see if we can help. Keep in mind that we will need the Model Number camera you are trying to connect to do research on compatibility. We cannot guarantee any 3rd party cameras to function or have complete access to every feature from the NVR.

•Some cameras may need to be reset to find the username/password combo, referring to the original owner’s manual or contacting the manufacturer of the camera may be necessary. Note that some cameras may need to be re-initialized after performing the reset before being used on the Blue Line NVR.

DVR/NVR Rebooting

If your DVR or NVR is rebooting by itself please read the guide below.

If your DVR or NVR is rebooting once a week this is completely normal. Our DVR and NVR systems are designed to reboot once a week (Tuesday at 2AM by default).

If your DVR or NVR is rebooting more frequently you first want to check the power source of the DVR or NVR.

Be sure you are using the correct Power Source that was included with the DVR or NVR. Below are the correct power adapter specs so you can identify the correct one.

NVRCUBE = 12V, 2.0Amp NVRWIFI = 12V, 2.0Amp

LITE Series DVR = 12V, 2.0Amp

Pro Series DVR = 12V, 5.0Amp

Pro Series NVR = 3 Prong Power Cord to Power Outlet Extreme Series DVR/NVR = 3 Prong Power Cord to Power Outlet

If you can confirm you are using the correct Power Adapter you may need to double check the outlet you are plugged into. Try an alternate outlet and eliminate any Battery Backup Power Supplies for test purposes.

If the power source is not causing the reboot cycle it could be related to the internal hard drive. To check this out please continue reading.

First you will need to Power Off the DVR. We suggest powering the system down from the Power Switch on the rear of the system or by simply unplugging the Power Cable.

Once the system has been powered down you will need to open up the system. Please see below to locate the screws that need to be removed.

NVRCUBE or NVRWIFI

There will be 4 Phillips head screws located on the bottom of the system. Once the screws are removed the top cover will lift off.

Lite Series DVR

There are 2 Phillips head screws located in the rear and 2 on the side of the DVR, 1 on each side. Once the screws are removed the top cover will lift off.

Pro Series DVR/NVR

There will be 4 Phillips head screws located on the rear of the system. Once the screws are removed the top cover will slide towards the rear and lift off.

Extreme Series DVR/NVR

There will be 2 Phillips head screws located on the rear of the system. Once the screws are removed the top cover will slide towards the rear and lift off.

Once the top cover has been removed it will expose the Hard Drive and its connections.

First we want to Unplug the Large Black Connector. Press down on the metal tab and pull the connector out of the Hard Drive.

Now we want to unplug the second smaller connector (Blue Cable) from both ends. Press down on the tab and remove from the Hard Drive as well as the System Board.

Once the connections have been disconnected. Plug them back in securely and listen for the metal tab to click. This will ensure a good connection in between the System Board and Hard Drive.

Note*

While you still have the system open, it might be a good idea to check the cooling fans for any dust or debris that could be stopping the fan from moving. This could cause the DVR or NVR to overheat.

Once the connections are tight, lets put the top cover back on. When the cover is back on you can proceed to power on the system. Once the system is powered on you will need to monitor the system and check if it is still rebooting.

Disconnecting The Internet

If the system is still rebooting you may want to disconnect it from your Router or Modem by unplugging the Ethernet cable in the rear. You will loose your remote viewing capabilities temporarily while unplugged but can help us diagnose the issue.

With the cable unplugged you may want to monitor the system closely to see if this has made any changes to the rebooting issue.

Disconnecting Cameras and Other Sources

Disconnecting cameras, alarms, extra monitors and microphones is the last thing we can try to solve your rebooting issues.

Cameras, monitors, and microphones mounted near high voltage could be causing your system to reboot by itself. If your system detects any incoming voltage or amperage coming into the rear inputs the system will shut down to protect itself from damage.

Leave your main Display Monitor and Power Source connected. Disconnect one input at a time to see if it makes a change in your reboot cycle. If you notice a change in the rebooting you can single it out by using this method of elimination.

Step One: Connect the Camera to Your LAN

To add the camera to a WiFi network, first connect the camera to the Local Area Network (LAN) through a router, modem, or network switch.

Using an Ethernet cable, connect the WiFi camera to a router, switch, or modem that is on the network you would like to configure WiFi for.
Power up the camera using the included power supply (Bullet and Turret cameras)
Once the camera has connected to the network, use the IP Search Tool to discover the camera IP Address.

IMPROTANT: The WiFi Turret (CLR-V100-4T36WF-W) and Bullet (CLR-V100-4B36WF-W) do not support POE. You must connect the camera to the network using an Ethernet cable and power the camera with the included power supply.

Configuring Motion Events in a ClareVision Camera

The following a is a quick guide to setting up motion events in a ClareVision camera.

Motion events are quite simple to set up.

Step One: Go to the configuration tab, Events/Motion Events

Step Two: Set the motion area.

Set the motion area by dragging your mouse over the grid pattern. The area without grid coverage will not be analyzed for motion. In the image above, the pool surface should be removed from the motion detection area as the spa spillway will create rippling on the surface of the pool which will result in false triggers.

You should also watch for nearby bushes/trees/foliage that may move when the wind is blowing. The motion algorithm in the ClareVision cameras was overhauled in the fall release. As a result, insects, birds and foliage in the distance will rarely cause false triggers.

Step Three: Tune the Sensitivity.

As you lower the sensitivity, the likelihood of false triggers will be reduced, but the camera’s detection zone for a human size object will also be reduced. See the table below:

Note: the above table is for human sized objects and the fixed lens cameras. Cars, for example, will trigger motion events at greater distances and zoom adjustment on a varifocal camera will allow you to detect human objects at greater distances than those listed above.

Step Four: Set the arming schedule.

The arming schedule is what controls when the camera will process motion events. When a motion event is created, it is automatically sent to the push server (stand alone) or sent to the NVR for processing. Additionally, when a motion event is created, it will be sent to the recording engine in the camera and if configured to record, it will be recorded to the SD Card.

The arming schedule default is 7×24.

Caution:

It is easy to get confused by the multiple calendars that are in a camera or NVR. The event arming schedule shown above is the primary calendar you need to manage.

If your installation requires events to be disabled during certain hours of the day or days of the week ALWAYS do the following:

1. Use the event arming schedule to control when the event will be analyzed and propagated

2. Leave the record schedule on 7×24 record. DO NOT try to match the two calendars – use the event arm schedule to control when events happen NOT the record schedule.

Step Five: TEST

This is an easy thing to skip – make sure you test your setup! Watch the area of interest and make sure objects moving in that area are captured (go to the Playback tab to view). Equally as important, make sure you have filtered out areas that are prone to create false triggers: nearby foliage, pools, sidewalks, roadways etc.

Configuring Smart Events in Standalone Performance Series ClareVision Cameras

The following a is a quick guide to setting up Smart Events in standalone Performance Series ClareVision cameras.

Step One: Go to the configuration tab, Events/Smart Events

Make sure you ENABLE Intelligent Detection such as Humanoid detection. You must have Intelligent detection enabled to use any of the presents below.

There are four smart event types:

Intrusion: intrusion events are boundary intrusion events. Intrusion detection can be configured with up to four zones.
Line Crossing: line crossing detection can be configured as a unidirectional crossing or bidirectional crossing.
Loiter Detection: detects when people stay in a region of interest for an certain time period.
People Gather: detects when the density of people in an area exceeds a threshold.

All of these events are human based. Vehicle detection is being worked on at this time and will be in a future firmware release.

Although there are four smart event types, they all are stored and propagated to the mobile app as ‘Smart Events’. There is meta-data that indicates the smart event type in the event log in the mobile app and in the push notification. You can configure more than one smart event type.

Step Two: Intrusion

Intrusion is the most commonly used smart event type. It is similar to motion detection in concept but is restricted to human detection. False positives are very rare with smart intrusion events.

First – check the ‘enable’ box. Without the event enabled, nothing will happen.

Click “Draw Area”. You can draw a quadrilateral anywhere on the screen. If the region of interest does not fit nicely within a quadrilateral, you can draw a second quadrilateral by using the “Warn Region” dropdown box. You can have up to four regions of interest.

Any intrusion in any of the up to four regions will trigger the intrusion event.

The “Time Threshold” is the duration the person needs to be in the region for the event to trigger. The time is in seconds.

“Sensitivity” is the human detection sensitivity setting. A higher number will detect humans further away from the camera, but may be prone to more false detections. Lower sensitivity has the reverse effect.

Step 3: Line Crossing

Line crossing is used when you want to know when someone has entered or exited a specific threshold or doorway as opposed to simply knowing if someone is in a region

In this example, the camera will trigger when someone walks from the house to the pool, but not the reverse.

Step Four: set the arming schedule.

The default password for all ClareVision cameras and NVRs is the FIRST SIX CHARACTERS of the UUID which can be found on:

How to use the SD Card in a ClareVision Camera as Backup to Your NVR.

Want to be sure events are available for your customer in the event of an NVR failure or NVR theft? Use the SD Card on the Camera as a backup.

Overview

The SD Card in the camera (included in all 4MP and 2MP fixed lens ClareVision cameras) is a useful tool when you want to install one or two cameras and keep the job low cost and simple. The user experience is similar to an NVR with event playback and the storage is reliable. What about an installation with an NVR? Use the SD Card as a back up for events.

NVR Setup

The NVR setup is not changed in any way to accomplish the goal of using the SD Card as a backup for events. Read this article to learn more about setting up a ClareVision NVR. Once you have completed setting up the NVR to record motion or smart events, you are ready to configure the camera to record events.

Camera Setup

By setting up the NVR to record events in the motion or smart event setup, you have already configured the camera’s motion or smart events.

Here is the NVR with smart events configured using Intrusion Detection

By configuring the Intrusion Detection in the NVR as above, the camera Intrusion Detection is configured as shown below (the NVR simply ‘programs’ the camera)

The recording schedule you setup in the NVR is the recording schedule for the NVR, not the camera. To use the camera SD card as a backup to the NVR for events, we need to set the recording schedule up in the camera.

The image below shows the camera recording schedule. It is set to record all Smart Events, 7 days/week, 24 hours/day.

Save the schedule and you are done. The camera will both, send the event to the NVR for storage and record the event locally.

Points to Remember:

You cannot access SD Card events from the mobile app when it is behind an NVR (i.e. on the PoE ports). If the camera is connected to the NVR on the general network, you can add the camera to the mobile app as a separate device and access the events directly from the camera tile on the home page. We only recommend doing this for troubleshooting and access to SD Card events as it will get confusing for your customer if the camera is visible on the home page and the NVR screen.
You can only back up ONE event type: motion OR smart and not both. The camera will only record a single event type.
Accessing the stored events on the camera itself involves the following steps assuming the camera is on an NVR PoE port:
1. Log into the NVR
2. Go to Configuration/Channel/Camera
3. Access the virtual host by clicking on the IP address of the camera you wish to view and login to the camera.
4. Once logged into the camera, go to the Playback tab and view the stored events.

Conclusion

Clare Controls includes SD cards on many of its cameras standard. You can use the camera stand-alone OR use the SD card as a backup to the NVR. With a few minutes of work, you can assure you customer their data is safe!

Where do I find the UUID on an Installed Camera

If you camera is already installed and you need the UUID for setup – follow these instructions.

Let’s say you are being called out to configure cameras that have already been installed and no one wrote down the UUID you need for the password. There are two simple methods for retrieving the UUID without getting a ladder out and going to each camera

Method 1: Cameras are Stand-Alone on the LAN

Launch the ClareVision App

Tap the ‘Plus’ sign and you will be presented with the three options shown below.

If you tap device is on the network, the app will scan the LAN for any ClareVision cameras and present them in the following screen.

There you have all ClareVision cameras attached to the LAN with the UUID (needed for the default password) and the IP address of the camera. You can now log into the camera your browser using the IP address and the first 6 digits of the UUID as the default password.

Method 2: Cameras are on the NVR

This is even easier. Log into the NVR, change the password as requested. When you do so, all attached cameras will have their UserID and password set automatically to the UserID and password of the NVR.

If you want to change the UserID and password of the NVR, you do so under the Configuration tab System/Users

Check the “Sync Camera Password” box and password will change on all attached ClareVision cameras whether on the PoE ports or the general LAN when the NVR password change is accepted.

Note:

The camera password sync feature works with ClareVision cameras only. It does not work with attached ONVIF cameras (e.g. Luma, Hikvision etc)

How to set up Event Snapshots using cloud storage for ClareVision cameras and NVRs

Event snapshots can be configured for ClareVision cameras and NVRs that are backed up on a Google Drive account. Whenever an event is detected such as smart event, motion, or other alarm trigger, a snapshot image will be created of the scene and uploaded to your Cloud storage device. This guide will help you set up Google Drive for use as a backup with event snapshots.

Google Drive:

Utilize IP Search Tool to find your camera on the network and notate the IP address.
Open Edge or Chrome and navigate to the IP address for your camera.
- (ex. http://10.100.0.100)
Log into the camera using camera’s credentials that you created at setup.
Click on the “Configuration” tab, then click on “Storage” in the navigation tree on the left side of the page.
Click on the “Storage Management” sub-menu and switch to the “Cloud Storage” tab.
From the drop-down menu in a camera, select “Google” or the “Enable” checkbox and “Google” checkbox on an NVR. The web console will auto-fill with the Web setup URL and Authentication Code. You will need this code to complete setup.
Copy and past the web browser URL link (https://www.google.com/device) into a new browser tab.
Copy and paste the Authentication code into the Google devices login window and tap “Next“.
Log in or select your Google Drive account.
Tap “Allow” to give the NVR rights to your Google Drive.
After the success screen displays, switch back to the camera web console and tap “Bind“.
The camera is now be connected with your Google Drive account. You must enable Cloud Snapshot Backup individually for each camera including those connected to an NVR by opening the camera through the Virtual Host. Configure the Cloud Linkage method in your motion detection settings:
Open the “Events” window in the sub-menu and select “Ordinary Events or Smart Events“, depending on the need.
Under your selected event type, select “Linkage Method” in the sub-menu.
Add a check box next to “Upload Via Cloud” to have event snapshots loaded into the cloud.
Tab “Save“.
The next time motion is detected, a folder will be created in your Google Drive that will capture and upload snapshots of motion events.

Hikvision upgrading failed fix In some cases, when you try to update the firmware on your Hikvision NVR, DVR or IP camera, you may get this message: “Upgrading failed, firmware mismatches” or “Language mismatch”. Obliviously, firmware doesn’t go through and you can’t update your recorder.

This issue is caused by using the wrong firmware to update your Hikvision NVR, DVR or IP camera. That’s the reason why it says “mismatches”, the recorder or the camera can’t identify the firmware through its algorithm.

You need to make sure you have the right firmware. For example, if your recorder is an USA Hikvision NVR (or DVR), you can’t use a firmware meant for the Chinese market or for the OEM line (even if the models look the same).

How to fix Hikvision “upgrading failed, firmware mismatches” issue

Hikvision markets its products for various world regions that are locked into their firmware and are not supposed to be compatible. Hikvision Chinese devices are not supposed to be sold in the USA.

You need to buy them from Hikvision USA. If you somehow update using the wrong firmware you will get the “ Upgrading failed, firmware mismatches” error message (or “Language mismatch”).

How to download the correct Hikvision firmware

The proper and safe way to get the firmware for your Hikvision IP camera, NVR, or DVR is by going directly through the seller. Contact them and provide the exact model as shown on the sticker.

They will send you the right firmware which is named “digicap”, paste in a USB stick and update directly via the recorder’s interface. Or you can flash it through the web browser.

If your equipment is Hikvision USA and you’re sure about that, you can go to the Hikvision USA official website, search for the model and download the firmware.

If you’re not sure you can call or email them and usually they’ll reply quickly. From our experience, Hikvision USA provides good technical support.

If there’s no way for you to get the firmware via your reseller, then you can try to google your model and see if you can find something. You can check our Hikvision firmware page as well. Make sure the model number matches the one on the device’s sticker.

The firmware update broke my Hikvision camera/NVR/DVR

Most of the time, if you update the wrong firmware, nothing will happen to your recorder or IP camera. The firmware will simply not go through and usually, you’ll get the message “Upgrade failed”.

However, in some situations and certain equipment, flashing the wrong firmware on your security device may brick the device. In this case, the software will be messed up and the IP camera or the NVR/DVR will not function properly.

For the NVRs or DVRs, they will not be able to start up anymore, the machine will turn on but nothing will show on the screen. For IP cameras, the camera will appear dead and no IP address gets detected.

If that’s what happened to you, there are two possible solutions. First, you can try to reflash the firmware using the TFTP method.

Basically, the method consists of “forcefully” updating the camera/recorder and correcting the damaged internal software. It may work, or it may not, depending on the model. This article has the full instructions: How to reflash the firmware on Hikvision cameras (Hikvision TFTP procedure).

The other method is an easy way, simply return the product to the manufacturer. However, there’s a “dishonest” tip: don’t tell them that you updated the wrong firmware, simply don’t tell them that you tried to update the device.

Just say the camera or the recorder went bad and doesn’t work properly. Many resellers void their warranty if you update the equipment without contacting them first. So, pretend that you didn’t do anything.

How to update the Hikvison firmware

Below, you can find guidance on how to update your system accordingly.

Updating Hikvision IP camera firmware

Download the right firmware for your IP camera. Locate the downloaded firmware file (this typically will be in the default download folder, unless prompted for a download location, then choose Desktop) and extract it by right-clicking on the file and selecting extract all or unzip.

When prompted for an extract location, choose Desktop to extract the final file to. A file labeled DIGICAP will appear on the desktop.

After the file is extracted, log into the camera using Internet Explorer or Firefox web browsers. If prompted to install the plugin (or to allow the plugin to run), follow the prompt to proceed with the upgrade procedure.

Log into the camera using the administrator username and password, then go to the Configuration tab. In this tab, go to Basic Configuration then System, and then click on the Maintenance tab.

On the bottom of the page under Remote Upgrade, press the browse button to locate and choose the firmware file, which was previously saved on the Desktop. After selecting the file, click Open, then click Upgrade.

The camera will display a prompt that a reboot is necessary to complete the upgrade. Click OK. The camera will reboot when the firmware is successfully upgraded.

Upgrading Hikvision DVR/NVR firmware

Insert a USB flash drive into the computer’s USB port. Note that the USB flash drive does not need to be empty; it may contain other files and documents.

Locate the right firmware for your Hikvision NVR/DVR. Then locate the downloaded firmware file (this typically will be in the default download folder, unless prompted for a download location, then choose Desktop) and extract it by right-clicking on the file and selecting extract all or unzip.

When prompted for an extract location, choose the USB flash drive (typically labeled by letters E, F, and so on) to extract the final file. A file labeled DIGICAP will appear on the USB flash drive.

After the firmware has been extracted (unzipped), remove the USB flash drive from the computer and insert it into one of the available USB ports on the DVR/NVR unit.

On the DVR/NVR, go to the Main Menu, and then go to Maintenance. From the sub-menus on the left click Upgrade. This will display the content of the USB flash drive.

Choose the DIGICAP file and press Upgrade. An information window will pop up prompting that the unit will reboot after the upgrade is complete. Click YES.

To verify that the firmware has been upgraded, after the DVR/NVR is rebooted, go to the Main Menu, and then go to System Information. The current firmware version will be displayed.

11/22/2021 – NOTE: in an effort to increase quality and simplify firmware management we have normalized the firmware for similar camera models. The result of this simplification is the generalization of model numbers in the Web UI and the mobile application. The table below details the changes. How to update ClareVision camera firmware through the NVR Virtual Host

In this article, we will outline the steps on how to update ClareVision camera firmware using the NVR Virtual Host.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You must download the firmware you need for each camera from the ClareVision Firmware Database here: https://www.clarecontrols.com/clarevision-firmware

Once your desired firmware is downloaded, access the NVR web console. You can access the NVR web console by navigating to the NVR IP address in your web browser. To find the IP address of the device, you can download the install the IP Search Tool which will scan the home network for compatible ClareVision devices.

How to access cameras using the Virtual Host from an NVR

Navigate to the NVR web console.
Select the Configure tab.
Open the Channels sub menu and select Cameras.
Tap the desired camera IP address to open a new web console tab for the camera.

How to update camera firmware

Once prompted, log into the camera web console using the NVR login credentials.
Select the Configuration tab.
Open the System sub menu and select System Configuration.
Switch to the Maintenance tab.
Under the Upgrade > Firmware section, tap Browse to open the system window.
Navigate to the desired firmware save location, select it and tap Open.
The file path will be displayed in the web console.
Tap Upgrade to begin the update process. Tap Ok if prompted by a popup window.
The firmware upgrade process could take up to 8 minutes to complete.
Once completed, you will be prompted to log back into the web console. Input the default credentials and navigate back to the System Configuration sub menu to verify that the firmware version is now updated.

How to Quickly Update Firmware on ClareVision Cameras

If you are on a job with several cameras, use this method to quickly update the firmware BEFORE you attach them to the NVR

Overview

The Fall firmware is a significant upgrade to the camera firmware for both the Value Series and the Performance series cameras. The following is a guide to cut down the time needed to update camera firmware on a job site.

Six Quick Steps

Step One:

Download the ClareVision app

Step Two:

Connect the cameras to a PoE switch on the LAN and let them boot up.

Step Three:

Launch your ClareVision App and tap the “+” Icon at the bottom on the screen

Step Four: Add the Camera to Your ClareVision App

Step Five – Tap on the Newly Added Camera and It Will Show You There is an Update Available

Tap update, and 3 minutes later, the camera will be back online and up to date on the latest firmware.

Step Six – Connect the Camera (if needed) to the PoE Port of the NVR

If you want the camera connected to the PoE port of the NVR, the simply connect the camera to the PoE port of the NVR and it will auto-discover (set to static IP, assign the IP address, set the UserID and password).

You can of course just leave the camera on the general LAN. If that is your intention, you are done.

Note:

You can update the NVR firmware the using the same method OR go to the web console under the Configuration Tab click on Maintence/Online Uprade

Click on “Check” and the NVR will check the OTA server for an update. If there is an update, it will prompt you to download and update.

VMS Integration Best Practices A customer/integrator is using Arecont Vision cameras and running into various issues. They need a process to follow to streamline their troubleshooting issues.

NOTE: VMS vendors (confirmed: Avigilon, ExacqVision, Milestone) are no longer updating the Arecont Vision driver. The focus has shifted to ONVIF compatible cameras. Ensure the functions/features you want are compatible via ONVIF.

NOTE: All Contera cameras must be added as ONVIF.

NOTE: Just because a device is ONVIF compliant does not mean all features/functions (i.e. motion) will be supported. See this link: https://www.onvif.org/conformant-products/ and filter it by CoStar Technologies and then look at the respective model. For example, the AV5255PMIR-SH (MegaDome 2 Series) is ONVIF Profile S compliant. Per the ONVIF Profile Feature Overview motion is not supported in Profile S. If motion is required, the camera must support motion detection and the Arecont Driver must be used when adding the camera to the VMS.

Resolution:

Verify camera functionality.

Verify the camera Web UI is accessible and that you can see live video in the browser.
Verify you can view the RTSP stream from the same computer the VMS software is installed on.

Verify you can see the live stream of the camera using ONVIF Device Manager
Do not troubleshoot any VMS problem until the above steps pass.

VMS Guidelines:

Check with the VMS manufacturer if the camera requires a specific firmware version.
- Information on any matrix they provide may be outdated and only show firmware they have had time to certify. There will typically be newer firmware on the Arecont Vision website which resolves camera issues we have identified and resolved.
- NOTE: Downgrading camera firmware is not always possible in the field once you are at a particular revision. It will require the camera to be sent in as an RMA to be reflashed to the required version.
If there is an issue when the camera is added to the VMS with the Arecont driver, attempt the below:
- Remove the camera from the VMS.
- Re-add it using the ONVIF or RTSP option.
- If it is successful, the Arecont driver they provided is out of date.
If there is an issue when the camera is added to the VMS with the ONVIF driver, attempt the below:
- Remove the camera from the VMS.
- Re-add it using the Arecont Driver if available or RTSP option.
- If it is successful, verify the camera datasheet states the camera is ONVIF compliant.
Check the VMS manufacturer for a software update.

Troubleshooting VMS integrations with ONVIF Device Manager

Issue:

A problem is seen in a particular model connected to the Video Management System.

Resolution:

Verify both the camera and VMS are at the latest software revisions.
A third-party tool called ONVIF Device Manager (ODM) (https://sourceforge.net/projects/onvifdm/) will be installed on the VMS. This tool will be used to identify if the issue is camera or VMS related.
Install ODM and launch the program. It will begin auto discovering cameras. If your camera is not populated you can manually add it on the lower left.
Enter the username (admin) and the password for the camera.
Once logged in, select the camera. There are links to view the live video from each sensor(s) depending on the camera model.
Monitor the live video from here to see if the symptoms experienced in the VMS can be replicated.

How to connect to RTSP streams on Arecont cameras

You will need to use VLC to open a network stream. Download VLC from HERE.
Click on Media and select Open network stream
Copy and paste the syntax RTSP stream you wish to view.

How to connect to RTSP streams on Contera cameras

You will need to use VLC to open a network stream (Media > Open Network Stream). Download VLC from HERE.
Log in to the camera web page and click Video & Audio. Confirm your stream settings for the Main, Sub Stream, and MJPEG streams are set to what you want.

Click Network and select the RTSP tab. What is displayed below is the base string to use. If you want to view another channel append “_X” X being the channel number.

Exacq: Contera Onvif Driver Integration

Issue:

Contera cameras will be stuck on “Connecting”.
Customers using Contera series cameras may be requested by Exacq technical support to downgrade the firmware to an older release.
Downgrading is NOT required as you should be on the latest camera firmware release.

Resolution:

Contera series cameras MUST be added using the ONVIF driver. Attempting to add the camera using the auto discovery method uses the Arecont Vision driver and will not work.

Click New.
Select ONVIF from the drop-down.
Provide the IP address of the camera.
Provide the username and password.
Click Apply.
Click on the camera from the navigation tree on the left. You should see 4 inputs for multisensor cameras. In the example below, it’s an AV20476DN running firmware 65412.

How to Use People Counting

1. Introduction

To monitor the flow of people, we added People Counting as an advanced function to our cameras. It has been well-received by the market since released.

Now, we release firmware version 4x.7.0.77, separating People Counting from VCA and adding Statistics Report function. From this article, you can have a better understanding about People Counting, Analysis Settings and Analysis Search.

Note: Only network camera with firmware version 4x.7.0.77 or above supports this function.

1.1 What is People Counting

People Counting is able to count how many people enter or exit during the setting period, which can therefore serve multiple purposes such as helping retailers to count how many customers came in a day. It records the number of people passing through the line automatically. People who cross along the direction of the arrow will be recorded as IN. On the contrary, they will be recorded as OUT.

1.2 Installation Suggestions

When the camera counts, it will frame each object. To ensure the accuracy of counting, we need to let the object pass the line completely. There are two installation suggestions as follows.

• Top Mounting: Top-mounted cameras can better separate people passing side-by-side.

• Wall Mounting: Wall-mounted cameras can better identify people.

Note: Either way, you need to make camera and people have a proper distance. And there is enough area in front and behind the detection line for the camera to recognize the object.

2. How to Set People Counting

2.1 Basic Settings of People Counting

Step1: Select Event→People Counting→People Counting in Configuration and enable it. PTZ series cameras have advanced options to select and configure different preset points.

Step2: Click Edit of Detection Line and draw a line. The direction of the arrow is IN. If necessary, you can also set Min and Max size limits of object to exclude abnormal targets.

Step3: Click Edit of Schedule Settings and Choose when to count people.

Step4: If necessary, turn on Counting OSD to display People Counting on the LiveView.

2.2 Alarm Settings of People Counting

Alarm Trigger: Enable Alarm and set Thresholds first, and then you could do other settings.

Alarm Action: Configure the specific actions of the camera when the alarm is triggered.

3. Regional People Counting

When enabling regional people counting, users can check the real-time number of people and the time of each person’s stay in the detection region

Settings steps are as shown below:

Step1: Enable Regional People Counting;

Step2: Set detection region and object size limits. The object size limits can refer to screenshot above;

Step3: Set detection schedule, edit the schedule settings and choose when to count people.

Step4:

Set Alarm Trigger and Alarm Action, Alarm will be triggered and take actions what you chose when the thresholds reaches to a certain value.

Note:

Camera firmware version xx.7.0.78 or above support regional people counting

4. Statistics Report

After a certain time of counting, you can start using the Statistics Report function. With this function, you can search by Statistics Types or Report Type. The search result supports Line Chart and Histogram, which could help users to study flow trend.

Search: Select Event→People Counting→Statistics Report in Configuration. Before click Search, you need to configure each parameter.

Click the button in the top-right corner to switch Line Chart and Histogram.

Export: Click Report Export to manually export a picture or a CSV sheet of current display result.

Click Auto Export to configure the time, range and direction for automatic export, which only supports CSV sheets.

Step by Step Instructions via Local NVR

1. From the Main Menu under Settings, Select Camera.

2. Select Registration.

3. Select Upgrade.

4. Select IP Camera to be upgraded

5. Click “Select”

6. Select the model specific firmware and click “OK”.

7. Click on “Start Upgrade”

Status of the download will show.

It will show “finish” when done.

Step by Step Instructions via WEB

1. Login in IP Camera via Web

2. Click on the “Setup Tab”.

3. On the left side menu, click on “System”.

4. Click on “Upgrade”.

5. Click on “Browse” and select the model specific firmware.

6. Once firmware is selected, click on upgrade.It will show a progress bar and device will reboot once upgraded.
