It’s an easy process, as it relies on the Base Station for network communication.

Fully charge your Wyze Cam Outdoor before setting it up the first time. This can take up to 4 hours. Once fully charged the light will switch from flashing red to solid red.

To set up your Wyze Cam Outdoor:

  1. In the Wyze app, tap Home, then tap + plus sign on the top left.
  2. Tap Add Device.
  3. Tap Cameras > Wyze Cam Outdoor > Begin setup.
    • If you don’t have a Wyze Base Station on your account, or your Base Station already has 4 paired cameras, you’ll be directed to set up a Base Station here.
  4. On the back of your camera, open the charging cover and flip the power switch to On.

    • The status light will be solid yellow.
  5. Lift the camera away from its base, or separate the magnetic base from the body.
  6. In the Wyze app, tap Begin Setup.
    • If you have more than one Wyze Base Station, or yours is already full, you’ll be prompted to select the one you’d like to pair the camera with.
  7. Press the SYNC button on the bottom of the Wyze Cam Outdoor.
  8. The camera will say “Pairing is in progress. Please wait.”
    • The status light will flash yellow and blue.
  9. The camera will automatically finish pairing with the Wyze Base Station.
    • The status light will turn solid blue when complete.
  10. When prompted on the next screen, name your Wyze Cam Outdoor. You’re all set!

Wyze Base Station Setup Guide

Wyze Base Station is the communication hub for your Wyze Cam Outdoor and it is necessary for it to talk to your network.

To set up your Wyze Base Station:

  1. Connect your mobile device to the same WiFi network your Base Station will be set up to.
  2. In the Wyze app, tap Home, then tap + plus sign on the top left.
  3. Tap Add Device.
  4. Tap Cameras > Wyze Base Station > Next.
  5. Plug one end of the included power supply cable into the Base Station, and the other end into a power outlet.
    • The status light will be solid yellow.
  6. Plug one end of the provided Ethernet cable into the Base Station, and the other end into the back of your router.

    • The status light will flash blue, then turn solid blue when connected to your network.
  7. Check the box next to “The status light is solid blue” and then tap Next.
    • Do you see a “Can’t find Base Station” error screen?
      • Tap Scan with QR code instead, then Scan QR code.
      • Locate the QR code on the bottom of the Base Station.
      • On the next screen, use your mobile device’s camera to scan the code.

Additional Notes

To get the most out of your Wyze Cam Outdoor, keep these in mind while positioning your camera.

  • Always mount your Wyze Cam Outdoor right-side pointing up, with the SYNC button pointed down. Person detection may not work as accurately if the sensor is upside down.
  • Avoid direct sunlight: While Wyze Cam Outdoor is designed to weather the elements, it’s still a camera. This means that having it facing direct sunlight could lead to the image being washed out, and has potential to shorten the life of the camera’s image sensor.
  • Avoid general traffic: If you’re using the Wyze Cam Outdoor to alert you when there’s activity somewhere, you want to avoid false-positives. While these should be few and far between, angling your Wyze Cam Outdoor to avoid heavy-traffic areas while using any of its recording features will help keep the battery from draining too quickly.
  • Avoid waving branches: While the PIR sensor should help prevent most false-positives, it’s still possible for the camera to record passive movement (waving branches, clothesline, etc.) as movement.

Updating your Wyze Cam Outdoor Firmware

For the best Wyze Cam Outdoor experience, we recommend you keep your firmware up-to-date.

To update your Wyze Cam Outdoor:

  1. In the Wyze app, tap Home, then your Wyze Cam Outdoor.
  2. Tap the Settings SettingsGear__1_.png icon on the top right.
  3. Tap Device Info > Firmware Version > Update.

To update your Base Station:

In the Wyze app, tap Home, then your Wyze Base Station.

Additional Notes:

About the Wyze Base Station

Unlike other Wyze cameras, your Wyze Cam Outdoor must be connected to a Base Station to work. This article explains why.

More Reliable Range

Without the Wyze Base Station, the camera’s range would be limited to that of the local WiFi. Since the effective range of consumer-grade routers can vary, we wanted to make sure that users had a consistent experience. With a long enough ethernet cable, you can place the Base Station farther out, like in a shed or barn, to give you more flexibility with placement.

Bound to the Wyze Cam Outdoor

With the Wyze Cam Outdoor being outdoors, there’s a greater risk of a grab and run. In case this happens, once you set up your Base Station and camera, they’re officially bound to each other until manually deleted from the primary user’s account. This means that even if the Base Station or camera are stolen, they can’t be added to someone else’s account or used until the original user deletes it from theirs.

Backs up Local Recordings

We’ve included a microSD port in the Base Station itself so that you can backup all local recordings (including time lapses) from your Wyze Cam Outdoor. Even if your camera is stolen, your recordings will be backed up to the Base Station.

Travel Mode

Besides acting as a connection point for the Wyze Cam Outdoor, you can use the Wyze Base Station in Travel Mode to connect to your camera without internet access. This lets you connect up to four (4) Wyze Cam Outdoor cameras to your Base Station at home, then take the camera(s) to a remote location (as long as it’s still plugged into a power source) and view the Live Stream even without Internet.

Network Status and Strength

When you visit the Device Info for the Wyze Cam Outdoor, you’ll see two things that only the Base Station provides: network status and signal strength. These tell you if the Wyze Cam Outdoor is online, and if the signal is strong or weak, which can help when troubleshooting the Wyze Cam Outdoor.

Updating your Wyze Cam Outdoor Firmware

To update your Wyze Cam Outdoor:

  1. In the Wyze app, tap Home, then your Wyze Cam Outdoor.

Renaming Your Wyze Cam Outdoor

Once you’ve set up your Wyze Cam Outdoor and its Base Station, you can change either of their names at any time.

To rename your Wyze Cam Outdoor:

  1. In the Wyze app, tap Home, then your Wyze Cam Outdoor.
  2. Tap the SettingsSettingsGear.png icon on the top right.
  3. Tap Name.
  4. Enter the new name, then tap Save.

To rename your Wyze Base Station:

  1. In the Wyze app, tap Home, then your Wyze Base Station.
  2. Tap the SettingsSettingsGear.png icon on the top right.
  3. Tap Name.
  4. Enter the new name, then tap Save.
Note: Shared users cannot change the name on the primary Wyze user’s devices.

Can I set up the Wyze Base Station without a router?

No, you must have a router to set up the Base Station.

Unlike other Wyze devices, the Wyze Base Station requires a wired connection to your router during setup. You will not be able to set up the Base Station without a router.

Once the Base Station is set up, can I just use WiFi?

Yes! Once Wyze Base Station is set up, switch to a WiFi connection in your settings.

  1. In the Wyze app, tap on your Wyze Base Station.
  2. Tap on the Settings gear on the top right.
  3. Tap Device Info > Change Connection. You’ll see one of the following screens:
    1. Select your network.

If your WiFi extender has an Ethernet port, then yes you can use that to connect to the Base Station. As long as you have that Ethernet port, you’ll be able to use the Base Station.

Before you begin setup:

  1. Download the Wyze app on your smartphone or tablet.
  2. Connect your device to a 2.4GHz WiFi network.
  3. Unpack your Wyze Cam v3 box, removing all plastic and packing materials.
  4. Plug the camera into power using the included USB cable and power adapter.
    • The camera’s status light will turn solid red when powered. When flashing, it’s ready for setup.

To set up your Wyze Cam v3:

  1. In the Wyze app, tap Home, then tap + plus sign on the top left.
  2. Tap Add Device.
  3. Tap Cameras > Wyze Cam v3.
  4. With your camera plugged into an outlet, tap Next in the app.
  5. Pull the base from your camera and single-press SETUP under the camera. It will say “Ready to connect”
  6. In the app, check the box next to “I heard, “Ready to connect”.”
  7. Tap Next.
  8. Select your 2.4GHz WiFi network and enter your network password. Tap Next.
    • Tap the icon in the password field to display the password to ensure it was entered correctly.
  9. Scan the QR code on the Wyze app.
    • Hold your camera up to your phone screen with the QR code displaying. It will say “QR code scanned please wait.” then “Setup completed.”
  10. In the app, check the box next to “I heard, “QR code scanned”.”
  11. Tap Next. You’re set up, it’s time to name your device.
  12. Name your Wyze Cam v3 using the text field, or by choosing a suggestion.
  13. Tap Finish when done.
  14. If you want to share your device, tap Share Device.
    • If not, tap Maybe later.

Additional Notes:

  • Wyze devices only work on 2.4GHz WiFi networks. If you are connected to a 5GHz network, switch to a 2.4GHz network before setting up your device.
  • Having trouble scanning your QR code? A few tips to help:

    • Hold your camera 6-10 inches away from your phone screen.
    • Slowly move the on the screen away from the camera, then closer.
    • Tilt your phone screen slightly in case there’s a glare.
    • Turn your phone upside down.
    • If you’re on iOS, turn off “Invert Colors”.
    • Make sure the QR code isn’t distorted.
      • If you have an older device, the screen may be too small. Try a different device.
      • If your screen is cracked or scratched, the code may be distorted. Try a different device.

How to mount your Wyze Cam v3

The Wyze Cam v3 comes with a number of different mounting options depending on your preference or specific needs.

Magnetic Mounting

Just like with the Wyze Cam v2, the v3 includes a magnet in its base that allows it to be mounted to steel or iron surfaces. To help create more opportunities for this we included a metal plate with an adhesive backing just like we did with the v2.

To use the included metal plate:

  1. Remove the backing from one side of the included adhesive pad and stick it to the back of the metal plate.
  2. Find where you’d like to have the cam mounted, and check the angle via the app to make sure it’s where you want it.
  3. Remove the remaining backing from the adhesive pad, and mount it where you want the cam.
  4. Stick the base of the cam to the metal plate and adjust its viewing angle as needed.

Screw Mounting

If you want a more secure mount, using the included screw kit can help make sure the Wyze Cam v2 has a solid connection with whatever surface you mount it to.

To use the included screw kit:

  1. Position the cam on the wall, and check its stream via the app to ensure it’s where you want it then mark the wall through the hole in the cam’s base.
  2. Drill a pilot hole, and if necessary insert the included drywall anchor.
  3. Screw in the included screw, leaving a small (3mm) gap between the head of the screw and the wall.
  4. Mount the Wyze Cam v3 by passing the screw-head through the larger section of the hole in the base, then sliding the cam down to secure it to the screw.
  5. If desired, you can snug the screw (don’t make it too tight or you risk damaging the base) to create a more snug connection.

1/4″-20 Mounting

Like with the Wyze Cam Pan and Wyze Cam Outdoor, the Wyze Cam v3 has a `1/4″-20 threaded connection that you can use to mount the cam to any standard 1/4″-20 mount.

Out of the box, the 1/4″-20 threads are actually used to hold on the base of the cam, but the screw used to attach the base can be removed with a standard Philipps or flat head screwdriver.

Firmware Instructions

What you’ll need:

*If you have a USB C to A cable, it may work. Follow the instructions below; if you have issues, switch to a USB A to A cable.

Before you start:

  1. Wyze Cam v2 (and Pan) were not designed to be used as a webcam. This firmware is for folks who need a webcam but can’t buy one.
  2. This solution should be used “as is.” We are not planning on continuous improvements or bug fixes.
  3. Once the Wyze Cam is flashed to webcam firmware, it will not be able to connect to the Wyze app, unless you manually flash it back to stock firmware.
  4. This may or may not be compatible with your computer operating system. We have tested and confirmed that it works on Mac OS 10.13, Windows 7 and 10.
  5. This solution has been tested and works with Zoom, GoToMeeting, Blue Jeans, Google Hangouts, Skype, and Cisco.

What we know:

  • The webcam video, speaker, and mic all function properly.
  • Mic audio may be low. We suggest you set your audio level to medium, or use your own microphone and speaker.

How to flash your Wyze Cam to a webcam:

  1. Insert the microSD card into your computer.
  2. Download the webcam’s special firmware here.
    • Windows 10: Right-click on the file “V2Webcam.zip” or “PanWebcam.zip” and select Extract all to your desktop. Drag and drop the “demo.bin” file on the root directory of your microSD card.
    • Mac OS: Click on the file “V2Webcam.zip” or “PanWebcam.zip”. Drag and drop the “demo.bin” file on the root directory of your microSD card.
  3. Eject and remove the microSD card from your computer.
  4. Unplug the Wyze Cam from the power source (ex. the end attached to the wall socket).
  5. Insert your microSD card into the bottom of the camera.
  6. Press and hold the Setup button, then plug your Wyze Cam back into the power source.
  7. Continue holding the setup button for 3-6 seconds until the light is solid blue, then release the button.
    • Note: The “Solid Blue” in this case is not the same as the one normally seen on the camera. Instead, both the blue and yellow LEDs will be on at once, appearing as a lighter blue.
  8. Wait 3-4 minutes.
    • The camera will reboot, and the light status will change during this time.
  9. Once complete, the status light will flash yellow and blue at the same time (not alternating).

Wyze Cam will continue to flash yellow and blue at the same time if the webcam firmware is installed properly and the camera is turned on.

To use your new webcam:

  1. Connect the USB A to A cable to the Wyze Cam USB port and the computer USB port.
  2. In your video conference tool (ex. Zoom), change the camera source to “HD USB Camera.”
    • We recommend you use a different source for the speaker and microphone functions.
