DAHUA XVR 4.0 Setup Description

This article will go over the Initialization process of the units with the New GUI.

1. When you first turn on the recorder you will be greeted with the region settings. Click on the drop down menu and select “United States” and click Next.

2. Select the proper time zone setting for your region.

3. You will now be prompted to input a password for the admin account.

4. For easier login you can create a pattern, you will need to enter it twice to confirm.

5. Enter your email in order to reset the admin password in case the password was forgotten, you may also setup security questions.

Note: This is the only method to reset the password for XVRs and NVRs. If you skip this step and forget your device’s password, you will need to replace the unit

6. The Auto-check for firmware is not yet implemented in the U.S. so you can just click on next.

7. Make sure the video standard format is set to NTSC and click on “Next”.

8. Here you can go in depth with the time settings. You may want to set up the DST (Daylight savings) so that it takes affect when the time comes.

9. The recorder will be set as a static default IP address you see on the screen. Input an open local IP address and gateway from you network. If you don’t know this information you can select DHCP (highlighted in the red box) in order to automatically receive an IP address from the router.

10. If you have the recorder properly connected to the router the P2P status will indicate “Online” and you can now remote in to the unit with our mobile app/PC app.

11. You can select the Encode settings for each camera by selecting the drop down menu on “Channel”.

12. Select the resolution and image quality for snapshots.

13. Select what you want to to when the hard drive fills up.

14. Here is you recording schedule, the green will indicate 24/7 recording and Yellow will be Motion recording.

16. Once all that is setup you will be greeted with the final Prompt! You are now finished Initializing you new recorder

New GUI- Add a Dahua Device

This article will show you three different methods to add a dahua device to our New GUI recorders. We will be adding a dahua camera with all three methods.

Method 1:

This first method is extremely simple if all the cameras are still set to default credentials and settings. We will do a device search on the network and add them with a click of a button

The second method is used if there’s an existing camera and it’s password was changed. You will use device search to locate the camera and then go to manual add to change the password it’s being added with

This last method is used when Device Search fails and cannot locate the camera on the network. You will need to type in the camera’s information manually.

New GUI – Schedule Record Setup

Description

Dahua NVRs and DVRs offer a variety of recording options. You can configure recording schedules based on the following methods:

1. From the Main Menu select “Management”.

2. Select the “Storage” option from the drop-down menu.

3. From the left hand side, select “Schedule”.

4. Select the channel drop-down menu to choose the channel that you want to adjust the recording schedule for.

5. Select “Setting” next to any day of the week.

6. You will have options to set a schedule for General Recording, MD (Motion Detection), Alarm, MD & Alarm, Intel, and POS (Point of Sale). For this tutorial we are using General Recording.

7. Here you can see that you are able to set multiple periods. For this tutorial we will only be setting one period. Check the “General” box, then select the day or days you want to scheduled recordings for, and then select “Save”.

8. Depending on the days selected from the previous step, you will see green colored bars which represents general recording.

9. You can select “Copy” to mirror the same schedule to another channel/camera. Select “Save” in the Copy menu.

10. Select “Save” at the bottom to save all settings. If your changes were successfully saved, a pop-up will appear at the top notifying you as such.

New GUI – Motion Detection Recording Setup

1. On the main menu select Alarm

2. Select Video Detection on the left.
Then select the Motion Detection tab at the top.
Choose the channel from the drop-down next to Channel.
Check the box next to Enable.
Check the box next to Record Channel.
Click on Setting next to Region

3. Highlight the areas in red where you want to track motion.
Then click OK at the bottom

4. Select More at the bottom
Check the boxes next to any of the other options you want to activate when motion is detected.
Click on OK

5. Click on Apply at the bottom.
You will see “Operation Succeeded” at the top when your changes have been saved

6. Click on the Setting drop-down at the top and select Storage

7. Select Schedule on the left.
Then select the Record tab at the top.
Choose the channel from the drop-down next to Channel.
Click on the Setting button next to any day of the week.

8. Check the All box to enable all days of the week.
Check the Motion box for “Period 1”.
Click OK at the bottom.

9. Click on Apply at the bottom to save the settings

10. Select Record Mode on the left.
Then make sure Auto is enabled for the appropriate channel(s).
Click on Apply at the bottom.

11. Click on the Main Menu icon at the top right.
Then select Search

12. Check box next to the channel on the right.
You should see yellow lines/bars for motion recording

Alarm Record Setup

Description

This article is to show you how to setup alarm recording thru new Web GUI.

Note: please refer to product spec sheet for alarm input/output availability. Not all Dahua Recorder support alarm input/output.

Setup Alarm Input

From main menu, click on Alarm. Click on Alarm input. We are using XVR 72 series for this example. The Alarm Input page will launch as shown below:

Select the Alarm input number that you like to use. This number is correspond to the alarm port on the back of recorder.

1. Click Enable to enable the alarm input.

2. Enter Alarm Name. By default is set to AlarmIn#

3. Period is to schedule your Alarm when you want to be enable.

4. With the alarm input, you can trigger recorder’s alarm output.

5. This to select which channel you want recorder to start recording when alarm is triggered.

6. You can call basic PTZ action Preset, Tour, or Pattern when alarm is triggered.

Setup Alarm Recording Schedule

1. From the main menu, click on Management > Storage > Schedule.

2. Select the channel you like to setup.

3. To enable Alarm recording, Click on Setting next to the timeline bar.

4. Set your duration (By default is 24 hour, 00-24). Then select Alarm.

You can select all days to copy the schedule to all week. Click Save.

5. Click Save.

New GUI/Instructions/IVS Record

Description

This article will cover how to configure IVS Recording on a Dahua recorder with the New GUI

1. From the Main Menu select AI

2. Select Parameters on the left.
Then select Smart Plan below it.
Choose the channel of the camera you are configuring from the Channel drop-down.
Select the IVS “Lightbulb” icon so that it highlights blue.
Then click Apply at the bottom

3. Select IVS on the left.
Choose the channel of the camera from the Channel drop-down.
Then click the + button.
Double-click on the rule type under the Type column to choose the type of IVS rule you want to use.
Adjust all the settings in the Parameters section.
Make sure that the box is checked next to Record Channel and the channel that camera is on is highlighted next to it

4. Draw the rule in the live view on the left by left clicking on it.
Continue to left click to add more segments.
When you are done, right click to finish drawing the rule.
Then click Apply at the bottom

5. Select Setting at the top left.
Then select Storage from the drop-down

6. Select Schedule on the left.
Then select the Record tab at the top.
Choose the channel of the camera from the Channel drop-down.
Then click on Setting to the right of any day of the week

7. Check the box next to All to select all days of the week.
Check the box for Intelligent to the right of Period 1.
(Feel free to adjust the days of the week and the time period for when you want to record IVS events).
Then click on OK

8. You will see blue bars on the schedule representing when IVS events will be recorded, when they are triggered.
Click Apply at the bottom

9. Click on the Menu icon at the top right to go back to the Main Menu.
Then click on Search

10. Check the box next to the camera channel on the right.
Once IVS events have occured they will appear as blue bars on the timeline at the bottom.
Click on the timeline on one of the blue bars to start playing that IVS event

New GUI – Audio Record Setup

Enable audio source

1. 1. Login using a web browser.

2. Click on Setting > Camera.

New GUI – Playback

Description

This article will cover how to play back recorded video on an NVR or DVR with the New GUI

1. From the Main Menu select “Video”

2. The Playback menu should open up and look like this:

3. On the right hand side, there will be a calendar. Select the day that you wish to play back video.
Below the calendar is a list of all the cameras/channels. Check the box next to all the cammeras/channels you would like to play back video from.

4. The video footage willl appear on the timeline at the bottom of the screen. It will be color coded to match the types of video that were recorded.
(See the Legend at the bottom of the screen.)

5. Check or uncheck each type of recording that you want to view. Check the Sync box if you would like to sync playback up on all channels you are viewing.

6. Double click on the graph at the bottom to begin playing back video.

3. You must plug in an external drive to save your downloaded file. Select the path where you want to save the file at. From this pop-up screen, you have an option to create new folder. After you select, click OK.

4. Select the Record Channel you like to search. You can only search 1 channel at a time.

5. Select the Recording Type you like to search.

6. Set the start and end time for searching. Then click Search. All recorded files that meets your search criteria will shown on the list.

7. Select the files, and click Backup.

8. Downloading process start.

9. Once finished, the folder information will pop up, then click OK.

New GUI – P2P Setup

1. Connect NVR to network with a CAT5 cable.

2. Download and install ConfigTool from DahuaSecurity.com, under Support->Download Center->Software

3. Run the ConfigTool.

4. The ConfigTool should display your IP Camera. Click the, “” icon to open Internet Explorer and access your NVR.

5. Configure Internet Explorer security settings to allow the plugs to work. Link to Internet Explorer Setup

6. Login with the default credentials: User Name: admin Passsword: admin

7. Under, Main Menu -> Setup -> TCP/IP Change the IP Camera to, “Static” if the camera is currently set to, “DHCP”

8. Open another tab and enter the, “Gateway” address listed under your NVR’s Network settings. Example: 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1, 10.0.10.1

9. Login to your gateway and locate the, “Port Forwarding” section.

10. Create port forwarding rules for each port you wish to forward for the NVR. (Usually you will only need to forward the HTTP and the TCP port.) Default Ports: TCP: 37777 UDP: 37778 HTTP: 80 RTSP: 554 HTTPS: 443

11. The end result should look like the below image. We used a Cisco router for this example.

12. Hit, “Save” in the gateway interface, and open another tab.

13. Go to, “www.canyouseeme.org” and check that the ports you opened on the gateway.

How to Access System Using P2P via Mobile Application

Description

View your recorder and cameras on the go. With Dahua’s mobile application IDMSS(IOS)/GDMSS(Android) allows you to add Dahua recorders and cameras to the mobile app using P2P.

How To Setup a Security Camera System?

The first phase in setup of a security camera system consists of installing the cameras and running the wire. The second phase is completing the connections between the cameras and the recorder, which depends on the type of camera system you have purchased.

How To Setup a DVR Camera System

DVR camera systems consist of security cameras that have BNC jacks to send video over coax wire, and a 12VDC power connector for power. Such coax wire based systems use RG59U siamese cables that have BNC and 12VDC power connectors at each end, which allow video and power to be run together over one “siamese cable.” As shown in the setup video below, BNC connectors are silver colored metal connectors that twist lock on to the video jacks of a camera and DVR recorder.

Infrequently, an installer may use network cabling with video baluns instead of coax cabling, which was very common with older CCTV systems to transmit video signal over long distances. Regardless of whether you are using coax wire or video baluns, setup of a DVR camera system is similar as demonstrated in the following video:

How To Setup a NVR Camera System

NVR camera systems use plug-and-play IP Cameras that connect directly to built-in PoE ports on the back of the NVR. Such systems are also commonly referred to as PoE IP camera systems because the cameras use Power over Ethernet technology to send power/video/data all over one network cable. We recommend using CAT5e cable as a minimum, and CAT6 wire is recommended for runs longer than 150ft as its thicker wire gauge allows for improved power transmission.

Our IP camera systems feature plug-and-play compatibility between the NVR and IP camera. Unless otherwise specified, we ensure the cameras and NVR we sell are compatible with each other and allow even a novice user to setup a IP security camera system.

To gain a good understanding of your purchase, we recommend customers bench test IP cameras with the NVR recorder before installing the cameras. Once it is established that all cameras are operational, continue with mounting the cameras at the desired location and running the camera wire. Since installation errors are common when crimping CAT5e or CAT6 network cable, we recommend using a cable continuity tester to safeguard against wiring related issues.

How to use your surveillance system

1. How To Login to a Security Camera System

Before you are able to login to your camera system over the web, you need to login at the DVR or NVR itself using a mouse. Connect the recorder to a monitor that supports at least 1080P resolution. We recommend using a HDMI input capable monitor. Turn on the recorder and login using two possible login methods.

In case you are unable to login due to a forgotten password, it is easy and secure to reset the password and gain entry into the unit. It is required that you be present at the recorder when following the video guide below on how to reset the login password. As shown in the video below, by answering some simple security questions you can quickly reset the login password.

2. Viewing Live Video and Audio on a Security System

All of our DVR Systems and HD NVR systems allow multiple viewing options. You can view multiple cameras in a grid-view or view one camera at a time in full screen mode. Regardless of whether you have an IP security camera system or DVR camera system, both provide the user with two types of zoom:

It is important to understand the difference between digital zoom and optical zoom, and the fact that optical zoom can only be used in live view mode. Below is a detailed video demonstration of each type of zoom function and how both can be utilized during live view to see objects far away. 3. Setting Recording Resolution

A common misconception about our camera systems is that all cameras have to be the same resolution, which is not the case. Cameras of different resolutions can be used on the same recorder in any of our systems, granted the cameras are within the maximum resolution limit of the recorder. This is true for systems consisting of Tribrid DVR, XVR, or NVR recorders.
Encoding settings can be set individually for each camera channel. Depending on the maximum recording resolution supported by the recorder and the camera, our surveillance recorders allow up to 12MP recordings. All of our DVR and NVR recorders also have dual video encoding technology to provide two streams of video for each camera channel:

The Encoding menu has several settings that can be set. A good understanding of the following settings is important in getting the most out of our security camera system purchase from CCTV Camera World.

4. Customizing Video Settings

We manufacture our cameras to produce the best possible picture quality automatically. Sometimes peculiar lighting scenarios in a scene may require customization. Our DVRs and NVRs allow multiple picture quality settings to be modified from the recorder as explained in the detailed video tutorial below. It is important to note that there is a difference in capabilities to modify image settings when comparing coax based cameras versus IP cameras.

Coax based cameras produce video that is encoded by the DVR, thus allowing picture quality to be modified before the video is saved by the DVR. In contrast, IP cameras encode video that is streamed to the NVR for saving the video stream; the video is not encoded by the NVR. Therefore, any changes made in the picture settings on the NVR must be communicated back to the IP security camera. If an incompatible IP camera is used with an NVR, such changes will not be communicated to the IP camera, and changes will not apply before video is encoded by the camera.

Our systems allow a wide variety of picture settings to be toggled depending on the camera specifications. In addition to picture brightness and contrast, the user can toggle image quality features such as backlighting, glare compensation (WDR), and image flip.

5. Recording Method Configuration

All of our security systems offer a variety of video recording methods. Each security camera can be set to record independently and the user has the option to choose from the following recording methods:

The digital video recorders in our systems even allow multiple recording methods for each camera. For example, cameras can be set to record all the time or during a portion of the day using the scheduled recording method, while also recording upon motion detection. This preserves video integrity in case a motion event is missed, and is very helpful when reviewing recorded security footage to allow the user to skip to points in the timeline when motion is detected. 6. Playback Recorded Video on your Surveillance System

7. How to Download Video from a Security Camera System

When there is an incident, it’s important to have a camera system that allows easy download of security footage catching the perpetrator in the act. To download video from any of our standalone recorders you will need a USB flash drive that is formatted with the NTFS or FAT  file system. The flash drive should not be more than 256GB. 8. How To View Downloaded Footage from a Security Camera System

Once security footage has been downloaded from your surveillance system, it can be reviewed on a Windows or Mac OS computer using our free playback software called Smart Player. You can download it here for Windows and Mac. There are two possible ways to reset the password with the new firmware. However both need the person to access the NVR either by being in front of it or by access in on the computer (entering the IP address on the browser). The screenshots shown on this guide will be the ones we can get on the NVR itself:

Bring up the login screen by right-clicking anywhere and clicking on the “Menu” option. When you see the login screen, click on the “Forgot Password” link:

After that, either 2 types of screens will come up: The first one is to enter an email address to get a new temporary password:

Please enter a valid email address to get your new temporary password:

The second type of screen is the same as the one it will show when we click “Next” after entering the email address:

When you reach this screen, you can follow one of the following options:

Option 1:

If you have downloaded the 2M Guard App for your phone, you can do the password reset yourself.

Click on the “Local Config” option:

Click on the “Forget Device Password” option and scan the QR code on the NVR screen:

After that, a message will appear saying that the temporary password will be sent to the registered email address:

Click on “OK” to send the password and wait for the confirmation page:

Click “OK” again and wait. The email will look like this:

Take note of the security code and enter it on the “Security Code” field of the Retrieve Password screen (The security code is case sensitive, this means that upper and lower case letters matter):

After entering the security code, press “Enter” and press “OK”. After that, a new pop-up screen will appear to enter a new password on the “Password” field. Don’t forget to enter the same new password on the “Confirm” field:

After that, click on “OK”.

Option 2:

If you don’t have the 2M Guard App downloaded, you can take a picture of the QR code shown on the “Retrieve Password” screen. Here is an example of the picture you should take.

After you take the picture, please contact Technical Support to receive more instructions. We will do the password reset using the QR code picture taken.

NOTE: Please do NOT exit from the “Retrieve Password” screen after you take the picture of the QR code. The security code only lasts for a day, so please keep that in mind before starting a password reset process.

When devices are connected to the network, they can also be accessible from a computer. The first thing you need to make sure of is that the computer you are using and the DVR/NVR are connected to the same network (network is coming from the same router for both devices). You will first need to obtain the IP address of the DVR/NVR from Menu → System → Network → IPv4 address.

After noting the IP address of your device, open Internet Explorer and in the address search bar type in the DVR/NVR IP address. If the NVR and the computer are on the same network then it will pull up the login page of the DVR/NVR. The credentials will be the same as when you log into the local interface of your device.

How to Use the Check Template to Create Schedules

The check template supports a time range-based authentication mode with a maximum of eight time ranges available per day. This is useful if a company only wants to allow employees to enter when their shift is supposed to start and not outside of those hours.

First, you will need to create the time schedules for each day. This is done in the Check Template page under each Time Interval. You can create up to 8 different intervals per day, but it is not necessary to use all eight. You must also choose a checking method for each time interval: card, face, password, card + face. Each day of the week can have the same schedules or you can create different schedules for different days. If you choose to have the same schedule for all days, or for multiple days, just Copy To at the bottom of the screen and Copy.

Once all of the desired time intervals have been added, name the template so that it can be easily defined, and click on Save.

Now that the template(s) have been created, we need to assign each group to a schedule. Go to the Face Library and create different libraries based on each group of people that you would like to have. NOTE: Only a maximum of 16 face libraries can be set.

There are two different library types: Employee and Visitor. When you create a library, it gives you the option to choose a Check Template. This is where you will choose from one of the templates that were created earlier. If you do not choose a template at this stage, you can always edit the library at a later time.

After creating all of the necessary libraries, now you can add employees into each appropriate library. When all of the employees have been added into the right libraries with the right templates, they will only be able to enter during the specified time frame.

How can I make sure my device and computer are on the same network?

In order to access network devices from a computer, they both have to be connected on the same network. But how do you check that the settings are correct, and if they are not, how do we fix that? This article is based off of the assumption that the computer and the device are connected to the same router/network switch.

Basic Explanation of the Network

Before we begin the steps on how to configure our network, we need to understand why we are doing it. Each device within a network has its own IP address – we will use 192.168.1.13 as an example – and its structure is like this:

The host ID will be different because that is what differentiates each device from one another. Within a network, the network prefix will be the same and so should the subnet ID, but there will be sometimes where it is different on a device. If the network prefixes and subnet IDs are the same for the devices, then that means they can all reach and communicate with each other.

If either one of the two are different, then that means they are not connected and they cannot establish a connection with each other. The purpose of this article is to make sure that the network prefix and the subnet ID are the same for the computer and your device so that you can create a connection and reach the device.

Checking the Network of the Computer and Your Device

The easiest and fastest way to check the network of your computer is to open up the command prompt. Open the Windows menu and type in “cmd” for command prompt.

Once the window is open, type in “ipconfig” and hit Enter. This will pull up the basic network information of your computer. Make note of the IPv4 address and the default gateway. Now that you have found the IP of the computer, please find the IP of your device – the method to obtaining the IP address might be different for each device. As mentioned above, if the network prefix and the subnet ID are the same for both the computer and your device, then they will be able to communicate with each other. If they are different, then please follow the steps as below:

Changing the Network of Either the Computer or Your Device

The most simple solution to allow both devices to be on the same subnet is to edit the IP address of your device. Usually, you just need to disable DHCP and enable a static IP address. But this is not always possible depending on the set up. NOTE: The computer must be connected with Ethernet in order for this configuration to work. It will not work through Wi-Fi.

In order to change the network of your computer, you will need to go to the Network and Sharing Center. On Windows 10 operating systems, it can be reached by either the Control Panel or from the Taskbar. In the Sharing Center you will be able to see all Connections the computer has. Click on the correct Ethernet connection.

After clicking on the Ethernet connection the Ethernet Status window will pop up. Click on Properties → double-click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4). By default, your computer will be set to “Obtain an IP address automatically”, but we will want to change it to Use the following IP address. Remember in the steps above that we found out the IPv4 address of the computer through the command prompt. This is where it will come in handy again. When you select Use the following IP address the boxes below will become active. The information will be as follows:

Once all of that information is filled out, click on Advanced in the bottom-right corner of the window, and it will open up the Advanced TCP/IP Settings where you will Add a new TCP/IP address. Please make sure the new TCP/IP address will match the subnet as the device you are trying to access, or else it will still not connect. NOTE: Please do not use the same IP address as the device. The Network Prefix and Subnet ID should be the same, but the Host ID should be different.

Adding the Subnet Mask can be easily done by hitting Tab after inputting the IP address because the fields will automatically be filled afterwards. Click Add after entering the correct information, and then just keep clicking okay until you are back at the Ethernet Status window. Then close the window.

You can check if the configuration was done properly by opening the command prompt and pinging the device’s IP address. You can do this with the prompt: ping IP address. For example: We are using the IP address 192.168.0.10 for the device. Enter the command prompt and type ping 192.168.0.10. If you receive a response, that means the configuration was done correctly, and you may now access your device.

Hard Drive Installation

1.Plug a power adapter into the DVR and the socket to power on the DVR.

2. Connect a monitor to the HD Output or VGA Output on the DVR with an HDMI cable or VGA cable (not included).

3. Connect the Ethernet Cable with the DVR and your router.

4. Connect the AHD camera with the BNC Cable.

5. Connect the Yellow Video Connector to the BNC Video Input on the DVR, and connect the Red Power Connector to the Male Connector of the Power Cable Splitter.

6. Connect the Female Connector of the Power Cable Splitter with another power adapter. Then plug the power adapter into the socket to power on the camera.

Operate dvr system with a monitor

Startup Wizard

After connecting the DVR and cameras to power, wait for 2-3 minutes. A Startup Wizard will start to guide you via a series of pop-up windows.

Connect the USB mouse to the DVR, then click Next until you see the window of Time-Language Configuration.

1.Select the time zone, date format, time format, language, and set the time for your DVR system.

2. The default password is empty, please reset it for your DVR following the tip.
The new password should be more than 6 digits and use the combination of numbers and letters to ensure your system’s security.

3. Select safety questions and enter the answers for resetting the password if necessary.
You can also enter your email address for getting the verification code to reset the password.

4. Check if the network connection status is normal. If not, you can configure it by clicking Network.

5. Scan the QR code to get the Serial Number of your DVR system and download the App named XMEye into your mobile device.

6. Before fixing the cameras, you can log in to XMEye App to check the live view to confirm the ideal position.

7. Detection based on human shape is enabled by default.
The DVR system will send alerts to your mobile device when there is human shape detected by the cameras.
Please refer to the section of Motion Detect the detailed setting.

IMPORTANTClick Next and OK to exit the wizard. You can right click on the screen, then go to Main Menu > Startup Wizard to bring it up again.
If the wizard is no longer needed, just check the box before Don’t Display the Wizard again on the first interface of the Startup Wizard.×Dismiss this alert.

Live Video

You will see the live videos from the AHD cameras in split-screen mode (9 screens by default) after exiting the wizard.

※ Move the mouse cursor to the live video of any channel, some icons may be displayed according to the setting.

1.The icons of and are displayed by default, while for icon , and , please right click andgo to Main Menu > Alarm (see on page 15) to enable them.

2. If you want to loop to display the live videos from some certain channels in full-screen mode, please go to Main Menu > System > Tour to enable this function.

3. For viewing the live video from one channel in full-screen mode, please move the mouse cursor to the desired channel, then double click. To exit full-screen mode, double click again.

Hard Drive Formatting

When you receive the system, the system has a pre installed hard disk, which does not need to be formatted,but if you have to replace another hard disk, it needs to be formatted at first ,then it can be used normally Install the Hard Drive first, then right click and go to Main Menu >Advanced > Storage to check if the type is Read/Write or the status is Normal.

If not, please click Format Storage to start formatting your Hard Disk Drive.

Video Recording

Right click on the screen, then go to Main Menu > Record > Record Conf. to set the record mode and record plan.
This DVR is set to record videos 24 hours a day by default.

Channel:

Select the channel to set the record mode and plan. You can select a single channel or all channels.

Redundancy:

Installing 2 pieces of Hard Disk Drive is required when enabling this function, and HM245 doesn’t support it.

Length:

Set the maximum video length of each recording from 1 minute to 120 minutes. It’s 60 minutes by default.

PreRec:

The camera will start recording a video around 5s before it detects the motion or human shape.

You can reset the time from 1s to 30s, but the accuracy of the pre-recording time may be affected by the bitrate.

Mode:

Set the recording mode and the options are Schedule, Manual and Stop.

Record Plan:

Set the recording schedules.

Notes:

The oldest video will be overwritten by the latest one by default when the Hard Disk Drive runs out

of space.

Video Playback

Right click on the screen, then go to Main Menu > Record > Playback to play the video recorded.

You will see the different playback modes in the pop-up window of Play Mode.

Left click on the live video of any channel, then start using the buttons to control the video playback.

Tips:

① You can click the icon to cut a video, then click to back up to the external storage.

② Previous Frame and Next Frame work only when pausing the video.

③ The speed of Fast Reverse and Fast Forward will be displayed on the right end of Playback Buttons.

2. Sync Playback

This function aims to put the videos from different channels at the same time to compare.

Select 2 channels at least ( up to 4 channels), a period and a date on Blue background to play the historical videos simultaneously at the selected time on the same timeline.

3. Dayparting

This function aims to put the videos from the same channel but at different time to compare.

Select a channel, number of split screens, and a period to play the videos recorded from this channel on different timelines.

NotesYou need to press and hold the left mouse and move on the bar of Period to select time period.×Dismiss this alert.

4. Smart Express

Select one channel or all channels, then select the speed of Fast Playback, the system will play all the videos recorded with the speed you selected.

5. Smart Search

Select one channel and a time period, then check the box before Detect and select a date on Blue background to play the videos recorded when the camera detected the motion or human shape.

※Double click the thumbnail to play the related videos.

6. Face Search

Select one channel, a time period and a date on Blue background to play the videos recorded when the camera detected faces.

Video Backup

Step 1:

Insert the USB disk into the USB port of the DVR system. Right click on the screen, then go to Main Menu >Record > Backup to start.

Step 2:

Select your USB disk, then click Backup to bring up a pop-up window.

Step 3:

Select Channel, Start Time and End Time, then click Add to display all the filtered videos.

Step 4:

Check the box to select the video files and Backup format, then click Start to back up the videos.

Tips:

① The format of the USB Drive should be FAT 32.

② An alternative solution to back up the videos is listed below.

• Go to the interface of video playback and click to show the filtered video list.

• Check the box to select the videos.

• Click to start backing up. The next steps are the same as the first solution mentioned above.

Snapshot Setup

The system will capture the snapshots 24 hours a day when the camera detects motion or human shape.

Go to Main Menu > system> SnapShot Conf. to reset the time interval of capturing a snapshot, and set up the schedules when the camera will capture a snapshot as well.

Alarm

IMPORTANT:

The alarms of Motion Detect and Human Detect are enabled by default. If you need to record videos whenthe camera detects the face or gets blocked as well, please enable Face Detection and Video Blind.

Please go to Main Menu > Alarm to set the alarm you need.

Motion Detect

The camera will start to record videos when it detects motion.

Channel:

Select the channel you’d like to enable motion detection.

Enable:

Check the box to enable motion detection.

Sensitivity:

If you select higher sensitivity, the camera will be more easily to be triggered to start recording videos. It’s advised to select Middle to balance the accuracy and effectiveness of the alarm, thus reducing the false alarms.

Region:

Click Set, then press and hold the left mouse to drag and select the area for detecting. The pink area indicates the selected area.

Period:

Set up to 4 time periods for each day to send the alerts when the camera detects motion.

MD Interval:

Set the time interval of two alerts. It aims to decrease the frequency of the alerts caused by the same moving object.

Record Channel:

The selected channel(s) will start recording when the current channel detects motion.

Tour:

The display will loop to display the live video from the selected channel(s) in full-screen mode when the current channel detects motion. You can go to Main Menu > System > Tour to set the time interval to show the live video in full-screen mode.

Snapshot:

The selected channel(s) will capture a picture when the current channel detects motion.

PTZ Activation:

The cameras don’t support this function.

PostRec:

The camera will remain to record the video around 10s after the motion or human shape detection ends. You can reset the time from 10s to 300s.

Show Message:

After enabling this function, the display will pop up a window to show the Alarm Status for all kinds of alarms when the cameras detect motion, human shape, or more.

Send Email:

Before enabling this function, please go to Main Menu > System > NetService, then double click on EMAIL option to set up your email address to receive the alerts.

Write Log:

The logs of the alerts will be written into the system once you enable this function. You can go to Main Menu > Info > Log to check the detailed log information.

FTP upload:

The system will send the videos recorded or snapshots captured to the FTP server you set when the camera detects motion. Please go to Main Menu > System > NetService, then double click on FTP option to set up your FTP server.

Mobile reported:

The system will send alerts to your mobile device when the camera detects motion. Please install the App and add the DVR to the App following the section of OPERATE DVR SYSTEM ON MOBILE DEVICE on page 18.

Up-to-Coaxial Control

Right click on the main menu and select XVI control to start setting up your camera.

※If the live video from the camera is mirrored or flipped, you can check the box before Mirroring or Overturn to fix it.

※If you set something wrong, please click Restore to get back to default settings.

NotesFor the setting of alarms like Video Blind, Video Loss, Human Detect and Face detection, please refer to the settings of Motion Detect. If prompting Video Loss, the DVR will not record videos, but only to send alarms.

How Should I Do If I Forget My Password?

• Please click Forgot Password when logging into the DVR system.

• The system will ask you the security questions you set in the Startup Wizard, please enter the right answer to reset your password.

• If you forget the answers, click Forget Answers to enter the interface of Verification Code.

• Launch XMEye App,tap > FIND PWD on an Android device or tap Forgot your device password?(on the interface of Add Device) > FIND PWD on an iOS device to scan the QR code on the left side to get a verification code, then enter it into the box on the interface of Verification Code to reset your password. However, if you set an email to get the verification code in Startup Wizard, the App will send the code to that email. You need to get it from email, then enter it on the interface of Verification Code.

How Long Can A Hard Disk Drive Record For This DVR System?

There are 4 AHD cameras connecting to this DVR system by default. These cameras are with the resolution of 1080P and variable bitrate which depends on the surveillance scenes. If the bitrate is around 2Mb/s, the corresponding size of the video file will be around 21G per day.

As a result, a Hard Disk Drive with the capacity of 1T may record around 12 days.

How Can I Connect An Extra Camera With The DVR System In Addition To The 4 Cameras In The Package?

If you just have a camera in hand, please follow the steps below:

For the camera with the format of TVI/CVI/SVI/CVBS, right click on the screen, select XVI&AHD to set the Signal of the channel to Auto or the corresponding format of your camera, then connect the camera with the DVR system.

For an IP camera, please go to Main Menu > System > Digital > ChannelType to check the box of the fourth line, then go back to the main screen and move the cursor to the channel you’d like

How to add IP Camera to Camius DVR (Advanced Security XVR)

Camius Trivault DVR recorders are designed to support analog security cameras via coaxial wiring and IP cameras over the Network. To add an IP camera to Camius DVR, you’d need to add PoE cameras to your local Network. Then, connect a regular network or PoE switch to the LAN port of the Camius DVR. Based on the example of a Camius 16-channel DVR, the connecting diagram illustrates this process. This system allows users to quickly and seamlessly integrate analog and IP cameras, providing greater flexibility in security camera selection.

If you are not using a PoE (power-over-ethernet) switch or a PoE injector, you can power the IP camera by connecting a UL-listed 12VDC-2AMP power supply to the DC plug on the camera and an ethernet cable between the IP camera and the router or switch on your local network.

Navigate to the DVR’s Menu >> System >> General >> Mode >> Set to XVR and Apply.

Wait 1 to 2 minutes for the surveillance DVR to reboot in a hybrid XVR mode. This switch will reset the Configuration and Password.

There are a few ways to add IP cameras to the DVR, and we will describe them below.

Adding IP Cameras in the Start Wizard

While in the Start Wizard, navigate to the Network>> Date/Time >> IP Cameras.

Click the Search button to add compatible IP cameras on your local Network. Next, select the IP camera(s) you want to add, and then click the arrow icon to add them to the DVR, followed by the Next button.

Select the suitable Protocol from the dropdown (Private is for Camius IP cameras), enter the IP camera(s) credentials (User Name and Password), and click Add. Green status indicates a successful connection; grey status could show a password or network error.

How to install a hard drive in a Camius DVR or NVR?

Installing a hard drive in a DVR (digital video recorder) or an NVR (network video recorder) (DVR NVR for short) is a relatively straightforward process. Still, it is essential to follow the steps carefully to ensure proper installation and prevent damage to the equipment. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to install a hard drive in your surveillance DVR or NVR recorder.

While 8 channel DVR and NVR recorders accept a single hard drive up to 10 TB in capacity, 16-channel DVR and NVR recording, along with 32-channel NVR will support a 14TB hard drive on each SATA port.

1 – Gather Tools and Equipment

You will need a Phillips head screwdriver, the hard drive you want to install, and any necessary screws (when you order a DVR or NVR from Camius without a pre-installed hard drive, the product box will include a set of screws for the hard drive disk installation).

2 – IMPORTANT: Make sure your DVR / NVR is unplugged and powered off

3 – Removing the Top Cover or the Video Recorder

Remove any screws from the Recorder’s top cover (chassis) using a Philips head screwdriver. Carefully remove the top chassis and set it aside (picture 1)

4 – Insert the Hard Drive

Place the hard drive into the hard drive bay, ensuring the drive is oriented correctly and appropriately seated.

5 – Connect the SATA Data and Power Cables

Connect the Data and Power cables to the two hard disk drives and place the hard disk drives on the video recorder’s case. The Data cable connects the hard drive to the DVR NVR’s motherboard. Locate the SATA port on the DVR’s motherboard and connect one end of the SATA cable to it. Then, connect the other end of the cable to the hard drive. The SATA Power cable provides power to the hard drive. Locate the SATA Power cable and connect one end to the hard drive and another to the Power Supply (pictures 2 and 3)

6 – Secure the hard drive with srews

Carefully flip the video recorder case and secure the hard disk drives to the recorder with the four (4) screws if it is one SATA HDD (pictures 4 and 5) and eight (8) screws for the 2 SATA HDDs (picture 6)

7 – Return the DVR NVR top cover

Power on the DVR NVR and allow it to boot up completely. If the hard drive was installed correctly and is in working condition, it should be recognized by the DVR and ready for use. Remember to format the hard drive (here is the guide on how to format the hard drive). Ensure that you use the power supply with the Camius video recorder.

IMPORTANT: Some users may find an issue when the hard drive is not recognized or not showing on the DVR. One of the primary reasons could be a wrong or defective recorder’s power supply.

That’s it! Your DVR NVR should now have a new hard drive installed, allowing it to store more video footage. Follow these steps carefully and seek additional assistance if you encounter any difficulties.

How to adjust my DVR NVR monitor resolution?

Camius video surveillance DVR NVR camera recorders have HDMI and VGA video output to live video feed on your monitor.

VGA output supports a max resolution of 1080p, while the HDMI video output 4K video resolution. So if the monitor you use with the Camius DVR or NVR recorder is capable of 4K and the camera, you can view live videos in 4K.

Two ways to adjust the DVR NVR monitor resolution

You can adjust the DVR NVR monitor resolution in the Wizard Setup mode or by navigating to Setup >> System >> General >> Output Configuration.

While in ‘Wizard Setup’ mode, choose an output resolution that matches your monitor. The DVR should adjust the output resolution automatically to match the best resolution of your monitor at the system startup. 

Please note that some legacy monitors could fail to communicate their acceptable resolution. In this case, please manually plug the video surveillance DVR into a newer monitor and change the resolution to the lowest setting, then save and plug the older monitor back to see if it’s supported.

After completing the Start Wizard, you can further adjust the Display Output Resolution using the following Menu Path: Setup – System – General – Output Configuration.

Select the output resolution suitable for your TV/Monitor. 1080P(1920 x 1080) will suit most monitors. If your DVR supports 4K output resolution, you can select either 2K (2560 x 1440) or 4K (3840 x 2160) to take advantage of the higher resolution that your 4K TV provides.

You can also adjust the size & position of the display screen to match your monitor/TV by using the ‘Scale and Offset’ feature; click the tab ‘Setup,’ which allows you to:

Click once or long-press the left button of your mouse on the arrow to adjust the size and position, or you can scroll the supplied USB mouse’s wheel to adjust. Click the right button of your mouse to exit, and click Apply to save your modifications.

How to reset the DVR and NVR video recorder to default factory settings

To reset DVR or NVR to default settings, navigate to the left bottom of the screen to the main menu. Select Setup >> System >> Maintenance >> Load Default

Here you can select the setting you wish to set to default. If you do not wish to reset the password, do not check the System boxes. Please note Load Default settings do not format your hard drive.

You’d need to enter the system password in the Authentication pop-up window (picture 1), which will lead to restarting your recorder (picture 2).

Navigate to Setup >> System >> Maintenance >> Reset Settings (Picture 3), where you can not select settings to reset so that it will reset your system completely, including the login credentials. You can choose ‘Format HDD‘ if you wish to format your hard drive, leading to erasing any recorded footage.

How to change your DVR and NVR password and add a user

You can update the ‘admin’ password by clicking the ‘User Edit’ button. You will need the admin’s current password to authenticate the new password.

Camius NVR and DVR recorder have an advanced user management feature to add multiple users to the system and control their permissions. System administration (admin) can add users, edit their permissions and delete them.

Navigate to the Main Menu in the bottom left corner, select System >> Multi-User (picture 1)

Click on the Edit icon in the User Edit column and select ‘Enable‘ in the User Enable tab. You can change the User Name or keep it as ‘user1‘. Create the new user password, confirm it, and click on the ‘Save‘ tab (pictures 2 and 3)

Then click the gear icon in the last Permission column to open the User Permission dialogue. Select (tick checkbox) the permissions you wish to grant to the new user. Click Save (picture 4)

How to troubleshoot if my DVR is not powering on?

If you’re having trouble with your DVR not powering on, here are some recommended troubleshooting steps:

Step 1 – Check the LEDs on the front panel, a steady green LED (PWR) means your DVR is powered on normally, and a blinking red LED (HDD) means ongoing recording on the hard drive.

Step 2 – Check the sounds coming out of your recorder. A faint fan sound and a faint hard drive sound are normal, and a click sound when you plug in the DC connector and turn on the switch is typical.

Step 3 – If you have the green LED on but no output on the monitor, follow these steps:

Step 4 – Check the power outlet and the power supply unit of the DVR. If the power supply doesn’t have any LED indicator or the LED light is very faint and not bright green, and there is no fan sound coming from the DVR, the power supply may need replacement. If your DVR has running hardware warranty, please contact us. If the DVR is covered with warranty, you can order a new power supply on Camius site.

Why can’t I access my Camius IP cameras, DVR, and NVR on my Camius View app? 

If you can not access your Camius IP cameras, DVR (digital video recorder), or NVR (network video recorder) on the Camius View smartphone app, please check the below:

1 – Check if you are using the latest version of the Camius View app

On the App’s ‘Devices‘ page, make sure your recorder is added using P2P (ID) instead of IP (IP Address), and if in doubt, delete it and add it again. 

In the Media Port, make sure to enter the right port number:

2 – Make sure you’re connected to a reliable network on your phone 

3 – Check if your Camius IP camera or recorder is connected correctly to the LAN (Local network).

4 – Check for the IP address conflict

5 – Reset the Network settings of your Camius device

How to disable menu logout on the DVR and NVR?

Certain Camius device users prefer to remain logged into the menu of their DVR or NVR without re-entering their login credentials unless necessary. To achieve this, you can follow the steps outlined in this guide.

Move the mouse cursor to the bottom left, and click the main menu button: Setup >> System >> General >> Menu Timeouts >> Off >> Apply.

Optionally, you can set a different time for menu log-out as well. This guide applies to Camius NVR and DVR recorders.

It’s important to note that the web browsers will log you out of the session after some time (even if you set the number of sessions), as this function is implemented by the web browsers to enhance security.

To assist you in managing your login details more conveniently, consider using a password manager such as LastPass or similar services with browser extensions available. These services can help you securely store your login information (such as IP address, username, and password) and provide easy access even after your browser session expires.

You can also use VMS software on your desktop to add the DVR using a P2P ID and access the DVR’s ‘Remote Setting’ within the VMS; follow this guide on how to add the DVR to the software.

How to add IP cameras on a network that are not connected directly to the NVR’s PoE ports?

For the PoE-enabled NVR, connect Camius IP cameras via the internal NVR’s PoE ports and/or external LAN (WAN) port using the below-described model 2 or 3:

Camius PoE NVR is optimized for Camius PoE cameras making the whole setup process plug-and-play; the NVR assign a unique IP address to each Camius PoE camera and adds them automatically.

NOTE: Connecting multiple cameras via a switch or router to the PoE port is not recommended. One PoE port supports one IP camera.

The below steps are based on the NVR’s local interface via HDMI video output. Navigate the mouse to the screen’s left bottom corner and click on Setup, followed by Channel >> IP Channels.

In the below menu, you configure the connection of wired IP cameras.

Click Search to search for IP cameras from a local network, click Add to add an individual IP camera, and click Add All to add all IP cameras.

Below we will describe a few ways to add IP cameras from a local network using an external LAN (WAN) port.

IP channels menu description:

Select the suitable Protocol from the dropdown (Private is for Camius IP cameras), enter the IP camera(s) credentials (User Name and Password), and click Add. Green status indicates a successful connection; grey status could show a password or network error.

Green color State means the camera is added to the NVR

Grey color state icon means the IP camera failed to connect to the NVR. Click the gray icon to show the failure reason:

Option 1 – Adding IP Cameras to the NVR within the LAN (local area network )

If you want to connect to an IP camera from LAN (Local Area Network), please make sure your NVR is well-connected to the LAN and the IP camera you want to add is in the same network segment as your NVR.

If you want to add all channels manually, click the dropdown arrow next to Switch Mode and select “Manual.” 

If you want to add an individual channel manually, click the Edit Pencil-shaped icon in the Channel list, and then click the drop-down arrow next to Switch Mode to select “Manual” and click OK to save.

Option 2 – Adding an individual IP camera in the LAN (Local Network area)

STEP 1- Click the Search button; all available cameras in the LAN will be displayed, 

Optionally you click the Add plus-shaped green icon  in the IP channels list to add a camera to an individual channel. Click the Search button to show all available cameras in the LAN.

STEP 2 – Select the camera you want to add and then click Add button. Next, insert the user name and password of the camera and click Add button.

STEP 3 – You will see the added camera in the IP channels list

Option 3 – Add Multiple IP Cameras within the LAN

STEP 1- Click the Search button to display all available cameras in the LAN click Add All button, and the NVR will search & add all available cameras in the LAN.

STEP 2 – Select the cameras from the search result and click “Add.” You would need to input the username and password of the cameras. Please ensure all the cameras you want to add use the same username and password. Otherwise, the cameras with different user names and passwords cannot connect.

STEP 3 – The added cameras will show up in the channel list.

Option 4 – Add IP Cameras from another NVR in the same LAN (Local Area Network)

The NVR allows adding IP cameras from other Camius NVRs in the local network.

STEP 1 – Click the Search button to display all available devices in the LAN. There is an Edit icon (blue plus)  if the device is an NVR.

STEP 2 – Click the Edit icon (blue plus) and select the camera channels one by one or check the box to select all cameras. Click the icon X to go back to the Search list.

STEP 3 – Select the NVR in the search list and click the Add button.

STEP 4 – Input the Username and Password of the NVR and then click Add button

STEP 5 – The added cameras will be displayed in the channel list

Option 5 – Add IP Cameras from the Internet

If your NVR is connected to the Internet, you can add cameras with a WAN (Wide Area Network) IP address.

STEP 1 – Click Add button on the search page.

STEP 2 – Input the IP address or Domain name, Alias (name of the IP camera), Port, Protocol (choose the protocol of the IP camera from the dropdown menu: Private, Onvif or RTSP), User Name & Password of the IP camera.Tap the Add button to add the camera.

How to configure Camius NVR using a web browser?

To quickly find the Camius DVR (digital video recorder) or NVR (network video recorder) IP address, visit camius.com/support to download and install the Camius Device Config Tool.

Click on the Camius NVR or DVR’s local IP or type it into your browser’s address bar. The latest Camius surveillance security camera recorders work with multiple web browsers, including Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Edge, and Safari, and include the following models:

Use your admin username and DVR or NVR password to log in. Your recorder’s Configuration is under Remote Settings.

You can check the ‘Web Compatibility Mode‘ in the Camius NVR/DVR and even IP camera settings (this can be done from the Camius recorder’s local user interface (Via HDMI/VGA) and in the web browser viewer.

Can I add cameras over the network?

Yes, you can add cameras over the network, they do not have to always be connected directly to the NVR. You can use a switch on the network that connected to the same router as your NVR. Please follow these steps to set this up:

Log into the NVR and go to Camera>Camera Management, click on Manual Add, and enter the IP information for the camera. Use the default username: admin password: 123456

Can I connect all the cameras to a switch, then the switch to one of the NVR ports?

No, unfortunately each port on the back of the NVR is only designed for 1 camera. This will only allow about 2 cameras to show up. To use a switch, you’ll have to connect the switch to the same router that the NVR is connected to. Then you’ll proceed to setup the cameras over the network. Please see the Adding cameras over the network FAQ.

Can I use my PC to view my cameras remotely?

Yes, you can use your external IP address to view your cameras and manipulate configuration via Web Browser. Our plug in will only work on Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. Once one of those browsers are open, type in your external IP address in the URL bar. If the port forwarding is done correctly, it should bring you to your NVR log in page. Log in using the same credentials as you would directly on the system. After you’re logged in, click the link to download and install the plug in. Restart the browser and click the “All Main” button on the left-hand side, and it should bring up your camera streams.

Can I use port forwarding to setup remote viewing for my NVR?

Yes, you can setup your system via port forwarding. Although, this setup is recommended for more advanced users. You will need to note the IP Address of the NVR/DVR. To obtain this, go to Main Menu>Maintenance>System Info>Network, your IP address will be the IPv4 address at the top. Then you’ll need to log into your router via web browser on a PC. Once logged in, you’ll need to add ports 80, 8000, and 554 to the port forwarding rules. For help with port forwarding for your router, contact the manufacturer or your ISP. The port forwarding setup should look something like this:

How do I change the camera names on my system?

To change the camera names go to Menu>Camera Management>Advanced>Basic>IP Camera Name. In that section, you can edit the “Camera Name” Option, please click apply at the bottom before selecting another camera.

How Do I find my system’s IP address?

To find your system’s IP address go to Main Menu>Configuration>Network. The IP Address at the top is your local IP. If your IP address is 0.0.0.0 or 192.0.0.64, this means your system is offline. There are a few causes from this, but usually it’s a bad ethernet cable or the cable is not plugged in properly to either the NVR or Router. If those are checked to be correct, try restarting your router by unplugging it for a minute and restarting the DVR.

Do I Need Internet to Activate My Wireless Security Camera System?

Not exactly. You can set up your wireless security camera system without any internet at all, as this is not a requirement to begin recording. In order to access remote viewing on your mobile devices, you will need a live internet connection.

What are the Advantages of Installing a Wifi Security Camera System?

A wifi security camera system is significantly easier to install than a traditional system, because there is no need to run special wires to each wifi camera. This not only helps the day of installation, but also allows clients to position cameras in places they might not otherwise be able to place them.

How Do I format my HDD?

To format your HDD you’ll need to go to the Main Menu>System>Storage>Management Tab. Once in the HDD menu, highlight the HDD information. Then click on “Format” at the bottom. Please note this will delete all information off the HDD.

How do I playback my recordings?

To playback videos go to Main Menu>Playback. In that section choose your camera(s) on the right-hand side. Then double click any of the days on the calendar. This should automatically start playback for that day. Use the bar at the bottom to jump to a specific time during that day.

How Do I set up my recording schedule?

To set the recording schedule you’ll need to go to Main Menu>Configuration>Schedule>Record Plan. In that section, you’ll have access to each channel’s recording schedule. The camera’s will automatically start and stop, recording, at desired times. If you want to set up only motion recording to each camera, select “Setting” on the right-hand side for the desired day. Choose MD for Motion Detection for the day and set a desired time, if not all day. Then you can copy the schedule to other days at the bottom. Click apply then ok, then apply again. You can now click copy at the bottom and copy the schedule to other channels as well. Or choose another channel at the top to setup a different schedule.

How Do I upgrade my system’s Firmware?

Make sure to download your firmware from our website here: https://www.laviewsecurity.com/cms/download/

Once the file is downloaded, extract the file and place it onto a flash drive. Then connect the flash drive to a USB port on the NVR.
Please go to Main Menu>System>Maintenance>Version and select upgrade. Choose your Firmware file from the list.

How to I download videos off my NVR?

To download video footage you’ll need a flash drive inserted into one of the USB ports on the system. Then go to Main Menu>Backup. Once in the Backup page, you’ll need to select the USB device from the list. Then click on “Backup” at the bottom and you’ll have the file selector screen show up. Make sure AVI is checked, then proceed to backup. You can select a specific channel along with date and time you want to backup. Click on Add, then the list should update. Each file will have a start and end time. Check mark the files desired for back up and click backup at the bottom. Once the progress bar finishes, you now have the files on your USB drive.

I forgot the password for my system, how do I reset it?

Please email us at info@laviewusa.com to reset the password for this system. In the email please mention you need a password reset along with the model number and date that displays on the main view of the system. A technician will reply with some instructions and a temporary password for your system.

I have port forwarding setup, but my external IP address keeps changing. Can I fix this?

Yes, you can either contact your ISP and ask them for a static IP address or setup a DDNS. LaView does offer a free DDNS service that you can setup with these instructions:

After registering and creating your domain name we need to enable the DDNS feature.

Please note, in order for the DDNS to work, port forwarding must be setup. You can now use your Domain name to access your system instead of IP.

I have some trees in my yard that are triggering my motion detection. How can I fix this?

You can setup areas for your motion recording within the camera’s configuration. Go to Main Menu>Configuration>Alarm>Set Area “Setting”. In that section, you’ll have a preview of one of the camera along with a red grid over it. You can clear the area and only draw specific areas with motion detection. Or you can just remove the areas by clicking and dragging over the red boxes. Everything in red will trigger motion, anything clear will not.

Which mobile app do I need?

-If you have DVR starting from LV-N52xxxx please download “LaView Patrol”

-If you have DVR starting from LV-N9xxxx, LV-D11xxxx, LV-D21xxx, or LV-T94xxxx, please download “LaView Net”

The system worked seamlessly until last week when it suddenly shut off and now won’t come back on

Would suggestion you follow the instruction below for troubleshooting,

1.Please ensure the cameras are connected, would suggest you to connect them directly to the PoE ports at the back of the system.

2.At the day time, try to cover the camera lens with your hands to see if there is a IR red light on the problematic cameras. And please also check if the camera goes hot when it is connected.

3.The camera appears not to get powe if there is no light and heat. We will need to check if it is the camera/port/cable issue.

1.At first, please switch the problematic camera to the workable PoE ports to test. You can also go to your PoE Configuration setting to check the power.

2.If it still doesn’t work with another port, please exchange the cable to check again. If possible, you can also add the camera to another system to confirm the problem.

What should I do if I connect a LaView Saturn Camera to LV-N96, LV-N95, LV-N98 series NVR but only get 720P maximum resolution in main stream?

If you only get 720p in mainstream, it means the IP camera is set to H.265. Please use the following instruction to switch the camera to H.264 compression.

3. Press and hold the reset button for at least 5 seconds until the camera restarts, and then the camera will be restored to factory default settings.

How to connect a LaView Saturn Series IP Camera to a Non-Saturn Series NVR

5a. If you are connecting the camera to the NVR PoE port, set up the Target IP to 192.168.254.xxx (xxx being a random number from 2-254), and Gateway to  192.168.254.1, Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0. Then unplug the camera from the PoE switch or Router and connect it to the NVR using Cat5e cable.

5b. If you are connecting the camera via LAN, use DHCP or set up the IP address to your network range. For example: Target IP 192.168.0.217, Subnet 255.255.255.0, Gateway 192.168.0.1

6. Go the NVR Menu => Camera => Camera.

7. Click on the channel which the camera is connected to (ie if the camera is connected to port 3 on the back of the NVR, click on channel 3). If you are connecting the camera via LAN, Click on any unused channel.

8. Change ‘Plug and Play’ to ‘Manual’ and enter the camera IP address (192.168.254.xxx or 192.168.0.217 as in previous example)

9. Change protocol to ONVIF and Management port is 80

10. Enter user name and password you set up when you activated the camera in step 3.

How do I download videos off my TVI System?

To download video footage you’ll need a flash inserted into one of the USB ports on the system. Then go to Main Menu>Export>Normal. Once in the exporting page, you’ll need to select the channel the video was recorded on along with the starting time and end time to search for footage.

Then click on “Search” at the bottom and you’ll have some video previews show up. You can select any of the previews and play it on the top right hand side. When you know what files you’ll need check mark the box on the upper left hand corner of the preview window and click on “Export” at the bottom. Once the export is done, you’ll now have all the files on your flash drive.

How do I format my HDD?

To format your HDD you’ll need to go to the Main Menu>HDD>General. Once in the HDD menu, check mark the box to the left-hand side of the HDD information. Then click on “Format” or “Int” at the bottom. Please note this will delete all information off the HDD.

How do I playback my recordings?

To playback videos go to Main Menu>Playback>Normal. In that section choose your camera(s) on the right-hand side. Then double click any of the days on the calendar with either a dark blue or red on them. This should automatically start playback for that day. Use the bar at the bottom to jump to a specific time during that day.

I have everything plugged in, but all I see on my screen is “No Video”

The system should automatically pick up cameras once they are connected and have power. Be sure to check the power source for the cameras. If the power is connected correctly there may not be enough power be supplied. Cup your hands over the lens and if the IR lights turn on, then the camera has enough power. If not, you may need to try a different outlet for the cameras.

I’m having issues connecting my DVR to my phone.

Possible Fixes:

1.Please go to Menu-Configuration-Network and under the General tab make sure enable DHCP is selected, if it is not enabled then select enable and apply. If you had to enable it, restart the NVR and try the P2P setup again.

2.If you are still having issues, make sure DDNS is NOT enabled(unchecked). If DDNS is checked, uncheck it and apply then go back to Platform Access and disable P2P and apply. Once both are disabled, do a power cycle and reboot the unit. After the unit restarts enable P2P again, and do another power cycle.

3.Go to Extranet Access, Platform Access or DDNS and make sure LaView P2P is selected then apply, also make sure “Enable Stream Encryption” is disabled.

4. If none of these work, then it could be a network issue. Try to restart your modem/router by unplugging it for about 45 seconds. Plug it back in and restart the NVR, then try to reconnect your system to the P2P account.

How do I find my system’s IP address?

To find your system’s IP address go to Main Menu>Maintenance>System Info>Network. The IPv4 Address at the top is your local IP. If your IP address is 0.0.0.0 or 192.0.0.64, this means your system is offline. There are a few causes from this, but usually it’s a bad ethernet cable or the cable is not plugged in properly to either the DVR or Router. If those are checked to be correct, try restarting your router by unplugging it for a minute and restarting the DVR.

-If you have DVR starting from LV-N52xxxx please download “LaView Patrol”

-If you have DVR starting from LV-N9xxxx, LV-D11xxxx, LV-D21xxx, or LV-T94xxxx, please download “LaView Net”

My system keeps rebooting every few minutes. – LV-T93 units Only

You’ll need to upgrade the systems firmware to fix this issue. Try to upgrade the firmware immediately after the system has restarted to avoid a potential reboot during the upgrade process. Please follow the instructions below to do this.

Once you have that file, put it on a flash drive and connect the flash drive to the DVR. Go to Main Menu>Maintenance>Upgrade and click on the Digicap file, then upgrade at the bottom. Once this is complete the system will reboot, and you’ll have the new firmware.

How do I back up files off my DVR? – LV-D04xxxxx

To backup files on your DVR connect the USB drive to the USB port then go to Main Menu-Storage-Backup-Select USB device-Backup-Select “AVI”-Choose Start & End Time-Add-Select File-Start. Once the file has been backed up to the device please disconnect the USB drive.

How Do I set up recording on my DVR? – LV-D04xxxxx

2. Go to Main Menu>Configuration>Record>Record Plan>SET>Select period 1 for Normal(Continuous) or MD (Motion Detection) and then check the Select All box to copy the settings to the rest of the week. Click Apply then OK. If you’d like to set up a different schedule for each day, set the record plan for specific days individually.

3. Click the “Copy” button in the Record Plan section to copy the settings to all the other camera channels, press Apply and then Ok. All channels will have the same color scheme if this is done correctly.

How do I connect my DVR to my cell phone? – LV-D04xxxxx

Please use our point to point service. To get the P2P service working on the DVR go to Main Menu- Configuration- Network- make sure DHCP is checked (if not please check then click app. to apply). Then go to P2P under network and make sure that state says online (For model LV-KDT0808B7W go to Advanced-P2P service).

If it says the DVR is offline please check the Ethernet cable. Once P2P is confirmed online we will move to the LaView Mobile app that you can download from the Play Store or App Store. In LaView Mobile we will add a device with the “+ Device” then enter the Device ID and password shown in the P2P area. Make sure to save on the top right. Once you have your new device click on it then select 4 cameras and click the Play button. Live View should now start.

Connect Monitor, Power Supply, USB Mouse

After you unpack your new DVR, locate the power supply and USB mouse that is included. Connect the mouse to the USB port on the front or back of the DVR. The USB mouse is the easiest way to navigate the user interface of the DVR. You can also use the IR remote control if you prefer. Please note that a wireless remote is not included with iDVR-PROA models.

Next, connect a monitor to your DVR. Even if you do not plan on keeping a monitor connected to your DVR because you will manage your DVR over your network, the initial setup still requires a monitor to be connected.

Supported Monitors

Please note that all iDVR-PROs models have an HDMI and VGA monitor ports. YOU MUST use a widescreen format HD monitor that supports one of the following video resolutions.

1080p resolution (1920 x 1080) is recommended for the best experience.

Connect the power supply included with your DVR to the power input on the back of the DVR, then to a power source (wall outlet). The DVR will boot up.

Test Cameras Before Installing

If you are using any new cameras with your iDVR, we highly recommend bench testing them before you mount them. What does bench testing mean? It simply means that you connect each camera to a power supply and monitor before you mount them. This can be accomplished by connecting each camera to your DVR and viewing them on the monitor that you connected to your DVR.

Testing your cameras before installation has the following benefits.

 Confirm all cameras are working properly before mounting them.

 Opportunity to also test all of your cables if you are using premade CCTV cables.

 Configure video inputs on DVR for CCTV. AHD, or HD-TVI type cameras (details below).

 If any of your cameras use an OSD or varifocal lens, it gives you the opportunity to get familiar with these operations, which is much easier to do on the ground rather than up on a ladder.

Surveillance DVR Dual Monitor / Spot Monitor Live Display Setup

for iDVR-PRO HD / CCTV Camera DVRs

This article will go over how to set up the dual monitor / spot monitor feature for iDVR-PRO HD surveillance DVRs. All iDVR-PROs have high definition HDMI and VGA outputs. iDVR-PRO A models only support dual monitor mode. The iDVR-PRO H series DVRs support dual monitor and spot monitor modes. In spot monitor mode, can use the HDMI output as the main monitor and VGA as a spot monitor or vice versa. This is a good solution for users that need to see a continuous live view their security cameras on one monitor and use the other monitor for DVR management such as general viewing, playback, settings, etc. You can watch a demo video here.

Dual Monitor

In dual monitor mode, both the HDMI and VGA outputs the main display (mirror mode). Dual monitor mode is supported by A and H model iDVR-PROs.

Spot Monitor

iDVR-PRO8H and iDVR-PRO16H models support spot monitor mode, in addition to dual monitor. This allows one monitor to display a customizable continuous live video feed, while the other monitor displays the main monitor for DVR operations such as configuration and recorded video playback.

HD Spot Monitor Setup

Follow these instructions to select between dual monitor and spot monitor modes.

1. By default, the iDVR-PROM and H series DVRs are to set to output duplicate displays on both the VGA and HDMI outputs.

To set up one of the displays as a spot monitor, select Menu > System Setup > Display > Dual Monitor.

Next, change the Display Mode from Duplicate These Displays to Main Monitor + Spot.

Once we have it set to Main Monitor + Spot, to the Display Type and set which monitor you would like to run as the Main Monitor and select which you would like to use as the Spot.

NOTE: We recommend keeping the Display Resolution set to Auto. This way it picks up the best resolution for your monitor’s spec.

2. Next, you can setup custom display screens and camera ordering for the Spot Monitor display. Click the Edit button next to Spot. You can now select the Add View Type button to select the cameras you would like to display on the Spot monitor. You may configure up to 16 displays that consist of single, quad, 9 channel, and 16 camera screen views.

Once you have the cameras / views setup, you can select the Apply button. That is it, you have successfully setup the iDVR-PRO DVR to run Dual Monitors.

Legacy Model Spot Monitor Support

Our legacy, non HD iDVR-PRO models (analog CCTV only), use an analog BNC output for the spot monitor. You can refer to this article for analog spot Monitor Output Setup information.

Surveillance Video Recording Setup for iDVR-PRO HD H.264 CCTV DVRs

Follow these instructions to set up the surveillance video recording type for iDVR-PRO HD security camera / H.264 DVRs from CCTV Camera Pros.

Recording Modes

iDVR-PRO CCTV DVRs support the following recording modes.

Setup Instructions

To configure the recording mode that you want to use, hover the mouse cursor over the lower part of the screen. The DVR main menu will appear. Click Menu > Record Setup.

The following screen will be displayed which shows all of the recording modes that the DVR supports.

If you want to set up a recording schedule for continuous, motion, or alarm based recording, you must click the drop-down box on the above screen and change the mode from autoconfiguration to manual configuration. Autoconfiguration sets all cameras to record at the max resolution and frame rate for continuous, motion, and alarm type of recording.

If you select manual configuration, you can set different choose a different frame rate, resolution, and video quality / compression for each camera (even for different time frames). Using the mouse, select the recording type that you want to set up.

Continuous Recording

If you select manual configuration then continuous recording, the following screen is displayed which lets you setup unique configurations for each camera and you can also click on the schedule tab to set a schedule for when each camera will record continuously (effectively making this scheduled recording mode).

Motion Detection Recording

If you select manual configuration, then motion recording, the following screen is displayed. One this screen users can choose the resolution, frame rate, quality, and whether audio recording is on or off (surveillance microphone required) for each camera when motion is detected.

Users may configure each camera for motion detection recording by selecting the motion sensor option under the camera menu. Users can turn motion detection on / off, enable an icon to be displayed on the screen when motion is detected (Mark field), and sensitivity level for each camera. Users can also define specific zones within each camera view for motion detection by selecting the edit area button.

The below screenshot shows how to mark the door in this room as the only area that motion detection will be applied to.

Alarm Recording

If you select manual configuration, then alarm recording, the following screen is displayed. One this screen users can choose the resolution, frame rate, quality, and whether audio recording is on or off (surveillance microphone required) for each camera when an external alarm (such as door sensor, PIR motion sensor, etc) is triggered.

Intensive Motion Detection Recording

If you select intensive motion recording, then you may configure different recording resolutions, frame rates, and video quality for when each camera is recording continuously and while motion is detected. The idea behind this recording mode is to conserve space when there is no motion (but still record) and record at a higher resolution, higher frame rate, and quality when there is motion detected.

This mode is very similar to intensive motion recording. If you select intensive alarm recording, then you may configure different recording resolutions, frame rates, and video quality for when each camera is recording continuously and when an alarm is triggered. The idea behind this recording mode is to conserve space when there is no alarm (by recording at a lower frame rate and resolution) and record at a higher resolution, higher frame rate, and quality when an alarm is triggered.

Intensive Motion / Alarm Recording

This mode is also very similar to intensive motion recording. If you select intensive motion / alarm recording, then you may configure different recording resolutions, frame rates, and video quality for when each camera is recording continuously vs. when an alarm is triggered or motion is detected. The idea behind this recording mode is to conserve space when there is no alarm or motion (by recording at a lower frame rate and resolution) and record at a higher resolution, higher frame rate and quality when an alarm is triggered or motion is detected.

Panic Recording

The panic recording settings control the video resolution, frame rate (FPS), video quality and whether audio surveillance is on or off when panic recording is triggered on the DVR. Panic recording is enabled when a user presses the panic button on the front of the DVR or from the user interface menu using a mouse. When panics recording is enabled, this overrides any current recording mode (schedule, motion, alarm, etc. and sets all cameras to continuous recording).

Anyone who uses video motion detection with a security camera system knows that it can be tricky to get the motion settings just right in order to avoid false alarms. It is especially tricky with outdoor security cameras because of all the things in nature that create motion. CCTV DVRs typically have sensitivity and motion mask areas to help. This article will guide iDVR-PRO surveillance DVR users of how-to setup the sensitivity settings and motion detection mask areas so that video motion detection can work as effectively as possible with little or no false alarms. You may also be interested in these instructions which explain how to set up motion detection recording on your DVR using an external alarm input.

How to reset the password to your Gamut recorder

This article will show you how to find the necessary information you need to send us so that we can help to reset the password for your Gamut recorder.

First, turn the recorder on and move your mouse to the bottom of the camera live view screen. A blue bar will appear at the bottom; click on the ‘i’ symbol that I have marked in red in the screenshot below.

This will open up a page of information about the recorder including the MAC address.

.

You will need to send the MAC address and the date and time on the recorder, even if the time/date on the recorder is not actually correct. 

.

This is very important, because we will generate a temporary password for you which is created based on the unique MAC address of the device and the time and date on it. If the date and time are accurate, just say that, or if you know it is five hours behind but the date is correct for example, just mention that when you email in and that should be sufficient. 

.

Otherwise, just send in a picture clearly showing the MAC address and date/time on the device and say exactly when the picture was taken.

Get in contact here, set the support status as ‘Password reset’ and the email subject as ‘Gamut password reset’. You will also need to send your original order/invoice number and the original delivery postcode to confirm your identity.

How to set up and view your Gamut PTZ on a Windows or Apple computer (GTIP210PTZ)

Purpose of The Guide

This guide will walk you through the initial configuration of your Gamut PTZ and show you how to view the camera on your computer.

Before You Begin

Let’s Get Started

First we need to make sure that the camera is talking to your network. If you look on the box for the camera and on the side of the camera itself you should see a sticker that looks something like the one shown below.

Make a note of the IP Address, User name and any Password shown on the sticker.

.

Next we need to open Internet Explorer on the computer. In the address bar at the top of the page enter the IP address that you saw on the sticker. You should then be prompted to log in to the camera, here you need to use the User name and Password shown on the sticker, if there is no password on the sticker then leave the password field blank.

.

Please make sure that you are using Internet Explorer and not any other browser. The reason for this is that most CCTV systems require the use of software called Active X to be able to display your live video and that software is only supported by Internet Explorer.

.

If you are prompted to install any software you need to allow this to happen, this software enables your computer to display the video feed from the camera.

.

At this point you should be seeing a live view from your camera and can go ahead and fit your camera wherever you need it. To watch your cameras in future you will simply need to open Internet Explorer, go to the IP Address from before and log in to the camera. From there you can also control the motion of the camera by using the PTZ controls shown below. These features are explained more in depth in other guides which can be found here.

If you were unable to access your camera this way then it’s not a problem, we just need to use a different method. Alternatively if you wish to view the system without having to log in through Internet Explorer each time then continue reading and you will see how to view the camera without needing to log in each time.

First open CMS5/VMS, the program that you installed before we began, and click on Device Manager. You will now be presented with a screen that looks like this:

You should see a camera in the list that has the same IP Address as previously seen on the sticker on the camera. If you don’t then click the IPV4 Search button and after a few moments the camera will appear. Select the camera by ticking the box to the left of it and click Add.

The camera will now be displayed in the bottom half of the window. Towards the right hand side you will see a number of buttons, you need to press the Modify IP button as highlighted in the following image.

At this point if you wish to use the camera through Internet Explorer rather than CMS5 you are now able to. Make a note of the new IP address that the camera is displaying and follow the steps detailed near the top of this guide for accessing the camera using Internet Explorer.

Now click the Home button to return to the main page for CMS5/VMS, then click Monitor. On the right hand side you will see your camera in the list of devices. Double click on your camera and the video feed will appear in the middle of the screen. If you then double click on the video if will go in to full screen mode so you can see a larger picture. To then control your camera click the button shown below and the PTZ controls will appear. How to add your Gamut recorder or camera to a mobile phone or tablet

Purpose of The Guide

This guide will show you how to add your Gamut camera or recorder to a phone.

Before You Begin

Your Gamut device will need to be turned on and connected to your internet router. If you have a recorder with a hard drive you will need to use a TV or Internet Explorer to set it up for the first time, follow the quick start guide to do so.

If you are using a recorder and cameras, make sure that the cameras are connected and working.

.

If you are using a Wi-Fi bridge system with your camera, make sure that the bridges are turned on, wired correctly and communicating before you begin.

You will need to download the app RXCamView onto your phone or tablet.

Let’s Get Started

Open up RXCamView on your device and tap on the head and shoulders icon to open the side menu.

Then tap on ‘Device List’.

On the Device Manager page, tap on the ‘+’ icon then tap on ‘IPC/NVR/DVR’.

The app will request permission to use your camera, allow it to. It will open up your camera and you need to point the camera to the QR code on the label on your recorder or camera.

Once you have successfully scanned the QR code the app will prompt you to fill in some information. Leave the IP/Address and Media Port fields, the username is admin by default, and the password is blank by default.

Then the device will appear in the device list, it should say ‘Connected’. If it says ‘connect close’ then check the password is correct and that nothing has been disconnected.
