Our IP camera can connect directly to your network or computer, and there are three ways to do so. The three ways listed below do not require a NVR. A NVR, or Network Video Recorder, is the device that IP cameras connect to.  The NVR records video provided by the IP cameras to a hard drive, either in HD (720p, 1080p), 2K HD, or Ultra HD (4K) depending on the type of NVR and type of camera that’s being used with it.

IP cameras are network-based cameras, however they don’t require Internet access in order to be used as they are standalone devices that can be used on a local network. A simple local network can be either of the following:

1.An IP network camera connected with a network cable to your desktop computer’s network port.

2.An IP camera connected to a router that is connected to a desktop or laptop computer, but the router is not connected to the internet.

Only if you want to view your system remotely from the internet then you would have to connect the system to the Internet.

Do I need a NVR for my IP security camera system?

A NVR is not necessary in order to view your network cameras or even record video. If you are testing cameras, looking for a temporary setup or want to set up something inexpensive then using a computer with an IP camera is a good alternative to a NVR.  SmartPSS is our computer software program that allows PCs to view and record IP cameras. However, this kind of processing will demand a lot from the computer. Most likely, you wouldn’t be able to use that computer for personal use as it would be bogged down processing video from high resolution IP network cameras.  Also, computers can be unreliable and crash, potentially leaving you with no recorded video.

NVR products are standalone devices using a Linux operating system which is known to be rock-solid and crash free, and designed to be operate 24/7 and maintain system security with user account access permissions. For a complete security camera system, you will want to use a NVR along with cameras. SmartPSS software can be used as a client software to connect from a computer to a NVR to watch cameras connected to the NVR and to playback/download recorded security footage.

Three ways to connect an IP camera to a computer

Before we begin, it is important to understand that network camera systems require the ability to transport video and power to work correctly. Power Over Ethernet (PoE) is a technology that transmits video/data signal and power over one Ethernet cable. In situations where PoE isn’t available, a 12V DC power adapter will be necessary to supply power to the camera.

Secondly, you will need to use our IP finder Config Tool to find cameras on your network. For more info on basic networking knowledge as to how IP addresses matter when deploying network cameras, please read our guide about connecting security cameras to the internet.

Now, let’s discuss the three ways to to connect to an IP camera from your computer.

1.12V DC power adapter with a network cable straight into a PC

How to Connect IP Camera to Computer

1) 12V DC power adapter with a network cable straight into a PC

a) For this method we will provide power to the camera using a 12V DC 1amp power adapter that plugs into a 110V AC outlet. Below is a picture of our trusty power adapter.

b) Next, connect a network cable from the camera to your computer.

c) Set your computer’s network port to a static IP address like 192.168.1.200 so you can talk to the camera. Here’s how you do it on a Windows Computer:

d) All newer cameras with firmware from 2018 and onward have stringent password rules that require initialization before making any configuration changes to the camera including the IP address. In order to set the password and password recovery email address you must login to the web interface of the camera. Be sure to note down and keep the credentials you are setting in a safe place that you will remember.

There are no master reset passwords for our equipment. If you forget your password, recovery email address, and security questions that you set on the camera at time of initialization, resetting the camera requires factory service which will incur out-of-warranty costs to reflash the camera.

e) Once you have a static IP address assigned to your computer’s wired network port, turn off WiFi on your computer. You can find the camera’s current IP address by using the Config Tool as shown. Our test camera has a current IP address of 10.1.1.65. If you need to change the IP address to let’s say 192.168.1.120, you can do that by clicking on the pencil icon to edit.

Note: if you have a password other than admin set on the cameras, then you will need to enter that in the “search settings” options before attempting to edit the IP address. See the illustration below on how that is done.

f) As explained in our article connecting security cameras to the internet, for two devices on a network to talk to each other, they must have the same IP address scheme. In 1C we set our computer’s address to 192.168.1.200, so we need to set change this camera’s address to 192.168.1.X where X is a number between 2 and 254, and not same as the our computer’s current address. We picked 12, so below is a screenshot of what to set your camera’s ip address to if you are following along in our guide. Set the subnet to 255.255.255.0 and gateway to 192.168.1.1.

g) After changing your camera’s IP address to one that matches your network, type the new IP address of your camera into the URL of internet explorer. Here’s a brief example:

In summary, the above is a quick and easy way to connect an IP camera to a computer with a hardwired network port. This is great for the following scenarios:

• You don’t have a router and want to set up a closed circuit system between a computer and a security camera.

• You are trying to test an IP camera or troubleshoot it.

• You are trying to connect to a security video recorder directly from a computer.

Most computers have only one network port, so this method can be problematic as it would use up your only network port, preventing you from having a hard-wired Internet connection. The next 2 methods will demonstrate how to set up a network camera on a network. Method 2 is for setting up a camera with a 12V DC power supply and Method 3 entails using a PoE injector or switch. The only different between these two methods is how power is supplied to the camera.

2) 12V DC power to camera + network cable to router

This method will show you how to connect an IP camera to your router and view it over a network, while supplying power to the camera using a 12V DC power adaptor.

a) Connect a 12V DC power supply to your camera and connect the power adaptor to the wall to power the camera.

b) Connect a network (Ethernet) cable from the camera to the router to establish a data connection between the camera and the router.

c) Give the camera about 2-3 minutes to boot. Use our IP Finder Config Tool to find the camera on your local area network (LAN).  Below is a screen shot of how it looks in our case.

The camera currently has an IP address of 10.1.1.65. As explained in our article connecting security cameras to the internet, for the camera to be reachable from the computer on your network, its IP address has to match the IP scheme of your network. In our case our router IP is 192.168.1.1, so we are going to have to change the IP address of the camera. To change the IP simple press the pencil icon to edit.

d) We are going to set the camera to an IP of 192.168.1.X, we chose 192.168.1.12. Before we go ahead and change the IP address, we have to think about duplicate IP addresses on the network which would create networking issues. To see if a specific IP address is available on your LAN, use the command prompt in Windows to ping the address you intend to use. Below is a video explaining how to use the ping command. You can use this command on Mac as well by using the terminal.

e) Let’s change the IP address. In our case we set it to 192.168.1.12. Subnet mask is usually 255.255.255.0 on simple networks, and the gateway is the IP address of the router. Press OK.

f)  Once the camera is assigned a new IP address, you can access the camera using your Web Browser or SmartPSS as shown in 1F above.

3) Camera to PoE Switch or PoE Injector

We discussed that PoE supplies power to the camera, so a 12V power adapter is not necessary in this scenario.

In this method you plug an ethernet cable from the camera to a PoE port on a compatible PoE switch or injector. The PoE switch or injector connects to the router.

Again, use the Config Tool to find your camera’s IP address and change it to match your network scheme (if necessary) as described in steps 2C thru 2E. Once the camera is on the same network as your computer you can login and watch the camera as shown in Step 1F.

Viewing an IP Camera on a Smart TV

Among the many different ways that security cameras are used, we are often asked if it is possible to view an IP camera directly on a Smart TV without using a NVR recorder. With most Smart TVs on the market there is no application that is available to watch IP cameras directly on the TV. In this guide we show how to use an Android TV box by downloading an App to connect an IP camera to a Smart TV or any monitor that has an HDMI input.

All IP cameras from CCTV Camera World support a RTSP video stream that is usable by third party programs and apps. The App that we suggest you use on an Android TV box is called VLC Media Player. You can login and access the RTSP stream from an IP camera and have it display on a TV.

Keep in mind any device that can download VLC Media Player can do this process like iPhones, iPads, Android tablets, and phones.

What equipment is needed?

How to connect IP security cameras to an Android TV Box

Before you can access the stream from the camera you will need to have it connected to your computer network and verify that it’s accessible. If you purchased a standalone IP camera from CCTV Camera World the camera is likely already configured with an IP address. Check the top of the camera box for the login information label. If the camera has not been configured, or you need to set it up on your network we recommend following our How to Connect an IP Camera guide.

You will also need to set up your Android TV box on your network, consult with the manufacturer of your box to find out how to do this.

You will need your IP address, username, and password that is set on the camera in order to access it. Inside of the VLC Media Player app you can access network streams. Inside of the app navigate to adding a video source and select network stream. Using the example RTSP stream below plug in the information for your camera’s IP address and type the text into the media player URL.

After you’ve typed in the correct RTSP stream for your camera you will be required to login to your camera stream. Type in the username and password for your camera to allow the app to login to your camera stream.

If you receive an error, double check that your camera is connected to the network and you’ve typed the correct username and password. Provided the camera is set up on the network and you are able to login you should now see your camera stream inside of the VLC Media Player App.

Keep in mind that Smart Camera features cannot be used with the RTSP stream. If you would like to use Smart Detection features that your security camera may have, you will want to use an NVR to display the camera on your TV.

How to reset my DVR’s password?

If you forgot your recorder’s password, there are two ways to reset it.  

1 – If your recorder has a reset button, press and hold it for 10 seconds; you will hear an audible confirmation. This will reset all settings, including the password, but will not erase recorded footage on your hard drive. 

2 – If your recorder doesn’t have a reset button, contact us using an online form to receive a reset password: 

     a) The current date on the DVR’s interface. 

     b) The MAC address of the DVR, which you can find under the System Information tab. Click the (i) information icon at the bottom right of your DVR interface. You don’t need the recorder to be unlocked for this. You can also get the MAC on the Camius View app and the Camius Device Config Tool.

Is my DVR / NVR recording? How to set up security camera recording?

This guide applies to Camius DVR (digital video) and NVR (network video) recorders. To confirm if your Camius DVR or NVR is recording, check the recorder’s front panel HDD LED. The red blinking light indicates the DVR or NVR is recording.

Recording Schedule

Then navigate to Setup >> Record >> Record Schedule to check each camera’s schedule.

By default Normal schedule is enabled, which stands for 24/7 continuous recording.

For the rest of the schedules, you need to select and save the recording type you need (Green is for Normal, Yellow is for Motion, Purple is for PIR (applicable to Camius 4K spotlight cameras with PIR sensor), I/O is for recording triggered by external alarm devices connected to the DVR or NVR).

Set the Record Schedule, apply, and copy to other channels if needed. Once it’s done, you will have access to the recording of the event not only on your NVR but you can also play them on your CAMIUS VIEW smartphone app.

Suppose you enable push notifications triggered by Motion, PIR, or AI (Human & Vehicle Detection) but do not have a short clip for playback. In that case, the record schedule was not set for this camera.

Optimizing storage and extending recording period

How to set the Date and Time on your Security DVR or NVR Recorder

If you set Date and Time on your new DVR or NVR, go through Startup Wizard >> Date and Time.

Synchronizing your recorder’s internal clock with your local Date & Time is essential; here are the steps:

1- Set your local time zone relative to GMT, for example, with Daylight Saving On:

2- Set the date, time, and formats manually.

3- We recommend enabling NTP (Network Time Protocol), which synchronizes date & time over the Internet. Click the checkbox, choose one of the servers, and click Update Now.

4- Enable DST for Daylight Saving Time. Once done, click Next.

How to back up recorded CCTV footage on the NVR or DVR?

The Search function provides you with the ability to search and play previously recorded audio-video footage and snapshots that are stored on your Camius DVR or NVR recorder’s hard drive. You can play videos that match your recording schedule, manual recordings, or events only. Additionally, the Backup function allows you to save important events, including both audio-video recordings and snapshots, to a USB thumb drive.

Swann camera not working: How to Fix

If your Swann camera isn’t turning on, check the wiring or battery. If it’s offline or has hampered function, disconnect the cameras, disconnect the power supply, and then restart to see if that fixes the problem. Your camera can also stop working if it’s overheated. Swann camera not recording: How to Fix

If your Swann cam is not recording, it might be because recording is disabled. Go to “Main Menu” the select record. Fix “Record Setup” and “Motion Setup”. You can also set up the “Record Schedule” too.

Check “Motion Setup” to see if that’s the reason why your camera isn’t recording (it only records when it detects motion).

You can also connect one camera only to your DVR or NVR to see if that fixes the recording issues. You can setup an isolation test, cross-check the camera and cable, and interpret the results to narrow down the issue.

Swann camera not connecting: How to Fix

Check your router and make sure the Wi-Fi password entered is correct. Sometimes, your Swann camera might unsuccessfully establish connection with your router simply because you misread a character or capitalized the wrong letter (it’s case-sensitive).

The cam could also be out of coverage area of the router. Make sure the router and the camera(s) are close to one another to ensure a smooth connection.

If the camera is still have issues with Wi-Fi connection, reset or power-cycle your router and try again. It might be an ISP problem. If you believe the camera is in error, you can reset it back to factory settings using the recommendation outlined below.

To playback a video, tap the “Playback” icon, then the “Camera” icon, and then set a start and end date and time. You can also search recordings on the recorder below the calendar then tap “Start Playback”.

Sometimes, when you attempt to playback videos, you get blue lines to show it was recorded but get an “open failed” error message when you attempt to play it. This could be caused by bad configurations, lack of storage space, corrupted video files, and failing DVR components.

This could also root from the latest software update. It mostly affects iPhone users but even Android users are affected. Contact a Swann technician or consider replacement if the problem consists.

Swann camera black screen: How to Fix

Some Swann cam users experience CCTV cam black screen or a blank video at night. This might mean the camera lacks infrared night vision, especially if it continues to record and works fine during the daytime or if you put a lamp or light source where it’s supposed to record things.

Maybe you simply forgot to turn the IR on. Fix this by checking camera settings and enabling the infrared light. If that’s not the case, then the infrared night vision camera might lack an IR cut filter.

It could also have a faulty IR sensor. Either way, you might need to have the device fixed by a technician or replaced altogether depending on the severity of the damage or the state of its warranty.

Off-warranty products might require some repair and finagling from third-party repairmen but this means it’s now outside the jurisdiction of Swann.

How to reset Swann camera?

To reset Swann Camera models NHD-805/806/810/811/815/815AF/816/817/818/819, here’s how to go about it. Locate the reset button. You might need to use a reset key or a pin in order to press it for 10 seconds to start the reset process.

Pro-VS NVR/IP Camera LTSecurity Password Reset with Serial Number

Important Note

The recorder MUST NOT have a registered email. If it does, you MUST use the registered email method of reset.

This method of password reset requires a computer with the Pro-VS IP Portal software. The Pro-VS IP Portal software must be able to see the NVR and/or the IP Cameras to identify the serial number.

1. Open up the Pro-VS IP Portal software. Locate the NVR or IP Camera that is to be reset in the list and click on the Details button for that device under the Operation column. A window will appear that will allow highlighting and copying of the serial number.

2. Email the serial number of the device and the current date on the device to support@ltsecurityinc.com. Make sure to state in the email that the device being reset is a Pro-VS device. This is a manual process, so there may be a variable length of time before receiving an email back with the appropriate reset code.

3. Access the login window or page and login using the code that was sent back by the LTS Support team as the password.

4. A new window will appear for you to change the password. Type in the same code from the LTS Support team in the security code section. Afterwards, type in a new password in the password and confirm sections.

The password to the device is now reset.

Pro-VS NVR Password Reset with Registered Email

Important Note

This method requires that an email be set for the administrator account of the recorder. If no email has been set, you must skip over to the next section for Password Reset with Serial Number.

This method also requires using the ProVS Phone Application to facilitate the password reset.

1. On either the local interface or the browser, click on the Forgot Password button at the login window/screen.

2.  The window will change to the password reset window. There should be a QR code and a field to type in a code.

3. Now open the ProVS phone application. Tap on the hamburger menu icon in the top left. Tap on “Local Config”, and then tap on “Forgot Device Password”.

4. Scan the QR code. After the scan, it will notify you that an email will be sent out to the registered email address with the security code.

5. Wait for the email with the security code.

6. Go back to the local interface or browser that had the QR code and security code field. Fill in the Security Code into the field and click Ok/Next.

7. There will now be a prompt to create a new password with for the NVR and to confirm as well. On the browser interface, it will also ask for the security code again. Fill in everything and click okay, the password for the recorder is now reset.

UI 4.0 – Reset Login Password

The 4.0 interface MENU blue banner is locate on the top of the screen.

Click the icon to Power Off > Log Out, then Log On again.

(If you have the Draw Pattern window popup, go to the pattern bottom.
Select Switch To the User Window.)

Click Forgot Password.

Choose Verify by Secret Question to Answer that you defined it before.

Or, select GUID (aka USB key file) / Verify by Reserved Email (if available).
If you forgot or haven’t any there, then you must use PC (IP portal) to reset the password.

UI 3.0 – Reset Login Password

Locate the Password reset window first.

If you forgot the password and you want to reset it, the fast easy way is using the local DVR/NVR access.
Please make sure you are looking at the correct interface (UI 3.0).

1. Your Main Menu button is located from the bottom right of the screen.  Click it.  If you see something like the picture looks like (ie: Playback Export, Manual HDD, etc..)   Please Log Out first.

Go MENU > Shutdown > LogOut

2. Once you Logout the menu, click the MENU again.  You should see the Login Screen.

3. If the Login Pattern window is pop up, please don’t log in.  Instead, click the Switch User at the bottom.  If you already see the Login Window, please go to step 4.

4. (Important)  When you see the Login window,  move the mouse cursor to the bottom left corner.  Double click (Left Click) on the edge corner.  It should pop the Restore default password window.  If the window is not pop up, cancel the window and repeat the step 3-4 until the restore window shows.

You must use the secured code that corresponds with that system date.

For example, the format of the date; the translation is:   Year  Month  Day   2018 09 26

Type the secured code that corresponds with the system date on your recorder as indicated in the picture below. Note: Try New code first, if doesn’t work, try others.

Then, it should popup either Create New Password or restore to the default password (12345) for before the year 2015 model.

What are Secured Codes?
A secured code is required when resetting the password on LTS Platinum Recorders (UI3.0). The secure code will changes based on the System Date.  You need to open the Password Reset window from the Local Console to enter it.

To receive a secured code, you may do one of the following;

Step 2. Select “Forgot Password.” on the bottom right corner.

Step 3. A new menu will now present itself. This is the password reset menu.
Click Export.   Remember: Export/Import Key must finish within a day. 

Step 4. Select Export and then designate the location the file will be saved to.

Step 5. Once you have the file. E-mail the XML file to LTS.

Step 6. LTS Tech Support will reply email with the unlock file.
You will need to download the attached file onto your personal computer.

 REMEMBER:  Export/Import unlock file must process in a day.

Step 7. Select “Import File” under Step 2. Select the browse icon next to find the file you received from LTS Tech Support.

Note: “admin” keyword in the password is forbidden.

Step 8. Create a new password for your device. Once complete, select “Confirm” to change it. You have successfully reset the password.

1. Disconnect the power supply or unplug ethernet cable from POE port.
2. Press and hold the reset button.
3. Keep holding the reset button and restore the power supply/plugin to POE port.
4. Continue to hold the reset button for a further 10 seconds.
5. Release the button and allow the camera to complete a restart/reboot.

(Unbind PTCloud) – How to Unbind the PTCloud number?

Hello, there is a hold on all PT Cloud Unbinding Requests.

1 – If your DVR/NVR is running 4.0+ Firmware, and you have a mouse and a monitor connected directly to the DVR/NVR, go to the DVR/NVR, and go to the PT Cloud Settings (On some Units it is called Platform Access instead of PT Cloud) if there is an “Unbind” Button, click that button, and it should be able to unbind the device from the account.

if there is no “Unbind” Button, then try this other way

2 – Using a Mobile Phone or Tablet, first connect the Mobile Phone or Tablet to the same local network as the DVR/NVR, then using the LTS Connect Mobile APP, Scan the QR Code like you would normally to add a device, the APP will of course tell you that the device is already bound to an account, but there will be an “Unbind Device” Button on the APP towards the bottom of the page. Select that button, and give the APP some time to process the command.

Note – Not all DVR/NVR with 4.0+ firmware will have the “Unbind” Buttons on the Local Monitor PT Cloud / Platform Access Settings

Note – When using the “Unbind Device” Button in the LTS Connect Mobile APP, the Mobile Phone / Tablet MUST be on the same local network as the DVR/NVR

Note – DVR/NVR with 3.0- firmware will NOT have the “Unbind” Buttons on the Local Monitor PT Cloud / Platform Access Settings.

How to Upgrade Firmware Using the Amcrest IP Config Tool

Step 1:Locate the .bin file for your specific device.

Step 2: Open the IP config tool, select your device and click Login.

Step 3: Enter the username and password for your device and click OK.

Step 4: Click on the Upgrade tab.

Step 5: Click Open File and access the .bin file and click Upgrade.

Allow the device to upgrade, the device will go offline and reboot. Once the reboot is finished the device will come back online (solid green LED) and you will be able to access the device again.

Wi-Fi Best Practices (Amcrest Smart Home)

Most Wi-FiAmcrest Smart Home devices have a communication distance of up to 164ft (open field) however if you notice the device is going offline regularly or becomes unresponsive your network and the location of the device may play a huge role in its ability to function properly. For more information on location and how it affects a Wi-Fi device, please refer to the information provided below.

Location: How far is the device is from the wireless router.

• Larger distances can be affected more by interference and be susceptible to connection issues. This can cause the hub to go offline which will also affect the sensors.
• Actual distances can vary drastically by the type of router. If connection issues arise, then a Wi-Fi extender should be considered.

Range Limiting Factors

Reflection: The signal reflects back.	Scattering: The signal scatters back into multiple new signals.	Refraction: The signal bends as it travels through an object (e.g. glass window).	Diffraction: The signal changes direction as it passes around an object.	Attenuation: The signal strength weakens as it passes through an object.

Wi-Fi signal strength decreases as it passes through different types of material. Try to position your wireless camera and receiver where the signal does not pass through metal or concrete blocks, which can significantly reduce signal strength (as shown in the information provided below).

Plastic & Wood: 10 – 30%

Brick: 30 – 50%

Concrete Cinder Blocks: 50 – 70%

Metal & Metal Cladding: 70 – 90%

Note: Signals that must pass through wet or moist materials (e.g. shrubs and trees) may be significantly reduced.

Amcrest Smart Home devices such as deterrent cameras, doorbells, or other related Amcrest Smart Home devices, excluding battery cameras, are capable of connecting to both the Amcrest Smart Home app as well as the Amcrest View Pro app.

However, since Amcrest Smart Home devices function primarily on a cloud-based platform setting up an Amcrest Smart Home device to the Amcrest View Pro app will result in only live view being available and must be set up first using the Amcrest Smart Home app. If using push notifications, please make sure push notifications settings are established in the Amcrest Smart Home app, prior to adding the device to view pro. Adding an Amcrest Smart Home Device to Amcrest View Pro

Please make sure your mobile device and Amcrest Smart Home device are connected to the same network during setup.

Step 1: Open the Amcrest View Pro app.

Step 2:  Tap on the Settings ( ) icon in the upper left corner and tap on Device Manager. Then tap on Add Device.

Step 3: Tap on Search Device. 

Step 4: Select your Amcrest Smart Home device from the Device List. Tap on Connection Type to continue.

Step 5: Tap on P2P Setup

Step 6: Enter a name for your camera in the Device Name field and enter the password for your device in the Password (default is admin) field. The password used in this field will be the password originally set for the camera in the Amcrest Smart Home app.  Tap Start Live View to continue.

Your Amcrest Smart Home device has now been added to your Amcrest View Pro app.

Note: Live view features such as, microphone, speaker, etc will be available in the Amcrest View Pro app. Other features such as playback, configuration, etc will not be available. To access and use these settings, please use the Amcrest Smart Home app.

How to Connect An Amcrest Smart Home Camera to the Amcrest View Pro App Using the Camera’s QR Code.

Step 5: The information found in the S/N will need to be updated. Please remove the extra wording found in this field and verify the serial number is entered correctly. The serial number will start as “Z” followed by 13 characters (letters and numbers. This information can be verified on the serial tag of the device as well if needed. Tap Next.

Note: If you do not remove the additional wording it will result in a failure to connect as the serial number for the device is registering as invalid. Please make sure the correct serial number is being entered into the app before tapping Next.

Step 6: Enter a name for your camera in the Device Name field and enter the password for your device in the Password (default is admin) field. The password used in this field will be the password originally set for the camera in the Amcrest Smart Home app.  Tap Start Live View to continue.

Your Amcrest Smart Home device has now been added to your Amcrest View Pro app.

Note: Live view features such as, microphone, speaker, etc will be available in the Amcrest View Pro app. Other features such as playback, configuration, etc will not be available. To access and use these settings, please use the Amcrest Smart Home app.

How To Externally Format a MicroSD card 

If you are unable to format your microSD card using the Amcrest Smart Home app you can also format it using the GUI format tool provided in the link below.

Note: A microSD adapter or USB microSD card reader will be required to read the MicroSD card on your computer. Mac users, click here.

Step 1: Download and load the GUI Format Tool.

Step 2: Insert your SD card into your computer and allow the program to read the card.

Note: Uncheck the Quick Format checkbox if you would like a full format of the SD card. Formatting the SD card will remove all information and data from the card and format the card to FAT32.

Step 3: Click Start in the FAT32 Format menu and allow the program to format the card. Click OK to continue.

 Step 4: Allow the program to finish formatting the SD card. When finished, click the Close button to close the program.

The microSD card has now been properly formatted to FAT32. Remove the microSD card and insert it into your device.

How to Disable the Indicator Light on Your Amcrest Smart Home Camera

The Indicator light on your camera can be disabled or enabled using the Amcrest Smart Home app. For more information, please refer to the information provided below.

Step 1: Log in to the app and access your device.

Step 2: Tap on the Settings icon.

Step 3: Scroll down to the Indicator Light toggle switch and tap to disable it.

Note: If your device does not have an indicator light toggle switch, tap on Video Settings, then slide your finger on the carousel and locate the Indicator Light icon. Tap the Indicator Light icon to disable the indicator light. To enable the indicator light, tap the icon again.

How to Recover a Password for Your Amcrest Smart Home Account

If you have forgotten the password for your Amcrest Smart Home account and would like to recover the password, please refer to the information provided below. Please note, during the process, a verification code will need to be sent to the email address used for your Amcrest Smart Home account. Please make sure you have access to this email address before starting the password recovery process.

Step 1: Open the Amcrest Smart Home app and tap Forgot Password.

Step 2: Enter the email address for your Amcrest Smart Home account and tap Send Verification Code.

Step 3: Navigate to your email and locate the verification code email. Enter the verification code into the app and tap OK.

Note: There is a 60-second window to enter the verification code into the app. If a new verification code is needed, tap on the Resend button to allow the app to send another verification code to your email.

Step 4: Enter a new password into the app and confirm the password in the next field. Tap OK.

The new password has been applied to your Amcrest Smart Home account. Please remember this password as it will be required to access your Amcrest Smart Home account.

Accessing Amcrest Smart Home Products Using RTSP

Some applications or viewing tools can use Real Time Streaming Protocol or RTSP to pull a device’s stream. This requires a specifically formatted URL. Please note, not all Amcrest Smart Home devices, such as the AB2WFSET will be compatible with RTSP streaming.

Please note, the admin and password portions of the URL will be the username and password of the CAMERA not the username and password of the account. 

RTSP URL Breakdown

The bracketed items are variables that you need to input according to your setup. Explanations of each variable are given below.

rtsp:// – The RTSP protocol

[admin] – username of the camera/device
[password] – password of the camera/device
[IP address] – IP address of the camera/device. If you are not on the same local network, this should be the external IP address of the device’s network.
[port] – RTSP port number

[channel] – channel number of the stream

[stream] – main or sub stream (use “main” (01) for main stream and “sub” for substream (0)

[authbasic] – basic authentication for the stream (64).

Using VLC Media Player to Access an Amcrest Smart Home Device on RTSP?

Before proceeding, please ensure the device is properly added to the Amcrest Smart Home app, powered on, and the computer you are using is on the same network as the device. For information on how to set up your device on the Amcrest Smart Home app, please refer to the quick start guide provided with your specific device.

Step 1: Download the Amcrest IP config tool. To access the Amcrest IP config tool, please visit: http://amcrest.com/downloads

Step 2: Open the Amcrest IP config tool and locate the IP address for your Amcrest Smart Home device.

How to Register an Amcrest Smart Home Account

Registering an Amcrest Smart Home account is easy using the Amcrest Smart Home app. The Amcrest Smart Home app can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play Store.

Registering an account allows you to begin adding your Amcrest Smart Home devices into the app. Please note, if you currently have a Zencam Security account already, registration to the Amcrest Smart Home app is not necessary as these accounts will share the same credentials. If you have a Zencam account, simply download the Amcrest Smart Home app and enter your Zencam login information into the Amcrest Smart Home app to access your account.

Step 1: Download the Amcrest Smart Home app from the App Store or Google Play Store and open the app. On the main screen, tap on Register.

Step 2: Select the region in which you reside and tap Next to continue.

Step 3: Enter a valid email address and tap the “I have read and agreed” check box. The “Send Verification Code” option will appear. This will be the code needed to register your account. Tap Send Verification Code.

Step 4: Check the email address you entered for the verification code. Enter the verification code into the app and tap OK to continue. Please note, the verification code will only be valid up to 15 minutes.

Step 5: Enter a password for your account into the app and confirm the password in the next field. Set a password with a combination of 8 – 32 letters and numbers. The password will be case sensitive. Tap OK to continue.

Your Amcrest Smart Home account has been registered successfully. You will now be able to begin adding devices to your account. For more information on how to add your specific Amcrest Smart Home device, please refer to the Quick Start Guide included with your device.

Recordings in the Amcrest Smart Home app can be downloaded to your phone through the Amcrest Smart Home cloud or from a microSD card. For more information on how to download recordings from the Amcrest Smart Home cloud, click here.

A microSD card must manually be inserted into the device to retain and download motion events. For more information on how to download a microSD card recording, please refer to the information provided below.

Step 1: Log into your Amcrest Smart Home account and select your device from the Devices menu.

Step 2: Tap on “MicroSD Card”.

Step 3: Tap on the File List icon (  ) located in the Cloud playback interface.

Step 4: Select the recording you wish to download from the file list.

Step 5: Tap the download icon (  ) to download the recording.

The recording will begin to download.

A blue checkmark ( ) will appear next to the download icon once the recording has finished downloading. You can also share your recordings directly to other services on your smartphone via the share icon (  ) located in the middle of the download menu. Please note, the recording must be downloaded to the app first in order to share them.

Exporting the Recording to the Mobile Device

Recordings downloaded from the microSD card will be downloaded to the Downloads List folder. The Downloads List folder can be found in the Account menu.

Step 1: Exit the interface to access the main menu. Click Account.

Step 2: Click on Downloads List.

Step 3: Click on the Folder icon.

Step 4: Tap on the Export icon.

The event will be downloaded to the photo or gallery section on your phone.

A microSD card can be formatted using the Amcrest Smart Home app. This will clear all data on the microSD card and format the microSD card to FAT32. Formatting the microSD card is performed via the storage status menu in the app.

The storage status menu displays any current cloud or microSD card storage options applicable for your device. This option also allows you view current cloud subscriptions applicable to your device as well as format a microSD card right from your smartphone. For more information on how to format the microSD card, please refer to the information provided below.

Note: A microSD card can be formatted externally as well if needed. For more information on how to format a microSD card externally, click here.

Step 1: tap on the settings icon () on the live view screen. Tap on the Storage Status option located in the settings menu.

Step 2: The microSD card storage capacity will be displayed in this menu. If no microSD card is being read by the device the status will be “Disabled”. To format the microSD card, tap on “Format Storage
Device”.

How to Set a Motion Detection Schedule Using Amcrest Smart Home

A motion schedule allows you to set the device to begin recording motion detection events at a designated time. This is useful if you would like the device to only start detecting motion during specific times of the day. If you would like the device to record motion 24/7 you can leave the schedule as default. However, for more information on how to set a motion schedule, please refer to the information provided below.

Step 1: Log into the Amcrest Smart Home app and access your device.

Step 2: Tap on the Settings icon (  ).

Step 3: Tap on Motion Detection.

Step 4: Tap on Motion Schedule.

Step 5: Tap on the day of the week you wish to modify. If you are setting a schedule for multiple days of the week this can be done later in the interface.

Step 6: Tap on “Add Schedule“.

Step 7: Tap on “Start Time” and use the scroll option to select a time you want the motion schedule to start. Note: In this example we will be setting the start time to 6am (0600).

Step 8: Tap on “End Time” and use the scroll option to select a time you want the motion schedule to stop. In this example we will be setting the stop time to 5pm (1700). Tap on the back arrow ( Tap on “Repeat” to choose which days of the week you would like the motion schedule to apply. A green check mark will be displayed next to the active days. Tap on the back arrow (  ) to exit.

Step 9: Tap on “Repeat” to choose which days of the week you would like the motion schedule to apply.

A blue check mark will be displayed next to the active days.

Tap on the back arrow (  ) to exit.

Note: Motion schedules cannot overlap.

Step 10: Tap on the “Save” button to save your motion schedule. To add additional motion schedules, you can tap on Add Schedule and repeat the setup process.

Disabling the IR LEDs will result in night vision being disabled on your device. This function can be enabled or disabled using the Amcrest Smart Home app. Please note, certain Amcrest Smart Home devices, such as the Wi-Fi Doorbell camera and battery camera do not support this function. Step 1: Log into your Amcrest Smart Home account via the Amcrest Smart Home app.

Step 2: Select your device from the Devices menu.

Step 4: Confirm if you would like to keep or delete your cloud recordings after the device has been deleted. To keep the recordings, tap the “Keep Recordings” check box. Tap Delete to confirm.

The device has now been unbound and deleted from your Amcrest Smart Home account.

If you are having issues obtaining an SSID when adding your device into the Amcrest Smart Home app there may be a miscommunication happening between the app and your mobile device. This appears to be a more common situation among iOS users and we are currently working with Apple to device a solution. There is an easy fix you can use to resolve the issue. For more information on how to resolve this issue, please refer to the information provided below.

If the SSID for your Wi-Fi network is not pulling up in the app when attempting to add your Amcrest Smart Home device, close the app completely then power your mobile device off and back on again allowing it to restart.

Once your mobile device has finished restarting, ensure your mobile device is connected to the proper Wi-Fi network, open the Amcrest Smart Home app and continue to add your device as normal. The SSID for your network should populate allowing you to complete the setup process. For more information on how to properly add your device please refer to the included quick start guide provided with your device.

All firmware verification and updates will be available using the Amcrest Smart Home app. For more information on how to verify/update the firmware for your camera, please refer to the information provided below.

Step 1: Log into your Amcrest Smart Home account and select your device from the Devices menu.

Step 3: Once you are logged in, tap on the settings (  ) icon.

Step 4: In the settings menu,  locate the “Firmware Update” tab. If a firmware update is necessary there will be a red indication identifier prompting you that a firmware upgrade is ready. If there is not a red dot, you are operating on the most up to date firmware.

If you need to update the firmware, tap on the “Firmware Update” tab to proceed with the update.

Step 5: In the firmware update menu, you will notice the current version of firmware that is on your camera, and the latest firmware file that will be downloaded to your camera. To proceed with the update, please click on “Update”.

Step 6: You will then be promoted to upgrade the firmware. Tap Cloud Upgrade to begin. If you wish to cancel to process tap Cancel.

Step 7: The firmware file will begin to download from that point. Please wait for the download and upload of the file to complete its processes.

Once the process is complete, there see a prompt letting you know that the firmware has successfully updated, and the current version is now updated on your device.

How To Activate An Amcrest Smart Home Cloud Account

Amcrest Smart Home cloud is an optional premium cloud storage option provided exclusively for Amcrest Smart Home products. Amcrest Smart Home products are not compatible with traditional Amcrest Cloud accounts and will require activation specifically through the Amcrest Smart Home app. For more information on how to activate an Amcrest Smart Home Cloud account, please refer to the information provided below.

Step 1: Log into your Amcrest Smart Home app and select the device you wish to activate.

Step 2: On the live view screen tap on Cloud Recordings.

Step 3: Tap on Activate Cloud Storage.

Step 4: Select a Cloud Storage plan from the list of cloud plans and tap Buy

Note: Currently, we only offer motion detection storage plans. Continuous recording plans are currently not available for Amcrest Smart Home cloud plans.

Step 5: Enter your billing information into the billing form. All plans will require a credit card to process the request.

After you have purchased your Smart Home cloud account you will be able to store and view your recordings all from the Cloud Recordings menu. Additionally, you can change your plan, update your payment method, as well as cancel a subscription right from the app.

Note: Any plan changes made to your account will only take place at the end of your current billing cycle.

Device sharing allows you to add specific Amcrest Smart Home users to share the live feed of your added device.  When you add a shared user, the shared user will have access to your camera and features such as live viewing, recording, playback, and two-way audio. If you would like to proceed with the device sharing process please follow the step by step instructions provided in this article.

Note: The maximum users allowed on a shared account is 6 users.

Step 1: Log into your camera via the Amcrest Smart Home app.

Step 2: Once you are logged in, access your device and select the settings (  ) icon in the upper right hand corner.

Step 3: In the settings menu, please click on “Device Sharing”.

Step 4: In the device sharing menu, tap on, “Add a Shared User”.

 

Step 5: In the Add Shared User menu, enter a registered Amcrest Smart Home account email you would like to share your device with. Once you have entered the email press the Save icon (  ) located in the upper right hand corner.

Step 6: Once you have pressed Save icon, you will be prompted whether or not you would like to add the shared user to your device. If you would like to proceed with the process, please press “OK“, if not, there is also an option to cancel the process.

Removing a Shared User

To remove the shared user from your device, tap on the “Remove” button.

Then tap on the Remove option to remove the shared user from your device.

The shared user can then log into their Amcrest Smart Home account and view the recently shared device by tapping on the device located in their devices menu.

Please ensure you are using a class 10 or above microSD card that does not exceed the storage limitation of your device. The microSD card must be formatted to FAT32. This may have to be done manually as most programs do not format to this allocation automatically. For more information on how to format your microSD card to FAT32, click here

When a microSD card is inserted into the device, all motion based recordings will be stored to it. Additionally, if you have a Amcrest Smart Home Cloud account, recordings will be stored both on the cloud and microSD card. To view recordings from the microSD card, open the Amcrest Smart Home app and access your device.

On the live view screen, tap on the “MicroSD Card” menu located at the bottom right of the screen.

In the MicroSD card menu you will notice a list of recordings. Recordings can be accessed and viewed based on the date the motion occurred and can be found by tapping on the calendar menu in the app.

Select which day you would like to access from the calendar. You will notice a list of events located in the event timeline. To view the event, tap on the play button. You can also use the timeline to adjust and view specific events based on that time.

Note: All motion detection recordings will occur back to back in the interface which allows the device to capture all events without the use of a cool down period.

How To Activate Push Notifications Using Amcrest Smart Home

Push notifications, are events sent to your phone which let you know a motion or other event has been detected by the camera. These actions can range from a motion event being detected by your device by a call coming through from someone using your Amcrest WiFi doorbell.

Note: If you are adding your device in the Amcrest View Pro app, please make sure to enable push notifications using the Amcrest Smart Home app directly, not the view pro app.

Activating Push Notifications

Push notifications should be on by default, however, can be turned enabled or disabled using the Amcrest Smart Home app. These settings are device based and can be disabled or enabled per device associated with your Amcrest Smart Home account. To turn push notifications on or off, log into your Amcrest Smart app and select the device and click on the settings icon.

Scroll down and locate the push notification toggle switch. This option allows you to enable or disable push notifications for your device.

How To Setup Alexa Using Amcrest Smart Home

Many of our Amcrest Smart Home devices, such as the Wi-Fi doorbell camera and other devices, are compatible with Amazon Alexa devices that support video streaming. To use Alexa with our devices the device must be setup first in the Amcrest Smart Home app before you can set it up in Alexa.

Note: The name of the device on your Amcrest Smart Home account will be the name used to view your device on Alexa.

Note: Certain Alexa devices such as the Echo Show 5 only support cameras up to 1080P resolution. Cameras set at a higher resolution above 1080P may experience issues connecting to Alexa.

For a brief guide on how to connect your Amcrest Smart Home camera to a supported Amazon Alexa device, please follow the instructions below:

Step 1: Ensure your Alexa device has completed its initial setup including synchronization with your Amazon account.

Step 2: Download the Amazon Alexa app from the Apple App store or Google Play Store and sign in using your Amazon Alexa account.

Step 3: Once you are logged into the app, from the Home menu, tap on the menu icon (  ) and tap “Skills & Games“.

Step 4: Tap on the search icon (  ) and search for “Amcrest Smart Home”. Download and install the Amcrest Cloud skill.

Step 5: Tap on Enable To Use.

Step 6: Enter the account credentials for your Amcrest Smart Home account and tap Sign In.

Step 7: Tap “Authorize” to authorize the connection.

Step 8: Your Amcrest Smart Home account has now been properly linked to Amazon Alexa. Please close this window to proceed.

Step 7: Tap on Discover Devices

Alexa will begin discovering your connected devices. This may take up to 45 seconds to complete.

Step 8: Tap on Set Up Device.

Step 8: You can then request Alexa to show you the camera by uttering a phrase. For example, if your device is named “Doorbell”, speak the phrase: “Alexa, show me the Doorbell camera.” The live stream of the device will be displayed.

As a reminder, the name of the camera on your Amcrest Cloud account will be the name used to view your device on Alexa.

Basic Setup & Adding Cameras (NVR) Amcrest NVR Troubleshooting

There are 2 types of NVR:

• PoE (Power over Ethernet)
• Non-PoE (this model has no Ethernet ports on the back panel)

Note: If needed, a PoE camera can be setup on a Non-PoE NVR. Please note, since the Non-PoE NVR will not have PoE ports available, the PoE camera will have to be set up on the same network segment as the NVR using a PoE switch or injector. For more information on how to set up a PoE camera, click here.

Power over Ethernet models is used when cameras, that also have the PoE specification, need to be powered by being directly plugged into the NVR’s PoE ports and do not require a separate power adapter to work.

A non-PoE model has no ports for cameras to connect to on the back panel but can add cameras with the built-in scan function that finds cameras connected to the same network. A PoE model can also use this scan feature, but additionally has PoE ports to power its cameras. The scan feature allows for compatible IP cameras to be added from the network whether they are PoE or WiFi.

For the purposes of this guide, the setup procedure will be divided between both the PoE and non-PoE NVR types. Each of these sections will have both a hardware setup and software setup portion.

PoE NVR

Hardware Setup

1. Connect an Ethernet cable from your router to the back of your NVR. It will go into the Ethernet port in between the HDMI port and the PoE ports. Make sure the NVR is powered on.
2. Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the PoE ports on your NVR to your camera. This will confirm that it is powered on.
3. Connect a VGA or HDMI cable from the back panel of your NVR to a monitor or TV. Make sure that the monitor or TV is set to the correct input (e.g. VGA, HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc.)
4. Connect the included mouse to a USB port on the front or back of your NVR.

Note: The network LEDs will start to blink on the back of the NVR when you properly connect the Ethernet cable from there to the router. Any PoE ports on the NVR do not have these LEDs. The same applies to the network LEDs that will begin to blink on the back of most cameras once they’re connected to an NVR’s PoE port.

Software Setup

     1. Please make sure NVR is turned on and then log into your NVR with your NVR’s login credentials. 

     2. Access the NVR’s main menu and go to, Camera in the Management section. In this menu click on the device Search option to search for your device on the network. 

     3. Click the Device Search button, and you can view the searched IP addresses at the top pane of the interface. Double click an IP address or check one IP address and then click the Add button to add the current device to the bottom pane of the interface. The system supports batch adding.

     4. Click the Manual Add button to add a device directly. Here you can set TCP/UPD/auto connection mode. The default setup is TCP.

Note: The manual add function is for Foscam, Dahua, Panasonic, Sony, Dynacolor, Samsung, AXIS, Arecont, ONVIF, and Custom. When the type is custom, you can input the URL address, user name, and password to connect to the network camera without selecting the network camera manufacturer. Please contact your network camera manufacturer for the URL address.

Non-PoE NVR

Hardware Setup

1. Connect an Ethernet cable from your router to the back of your NVR. It will go into the Ethernet port in between the HDMI port and the PoE ports. Make sure the NVR is powered on.
2. Connect a camera to your switch or another router port on the same network as the NVR and make sure it is powered on. The camera must be on the same network for the NVR to connect to it.

4. Connect the included mouse to a USB port on the front or back of your NVR.

How to Download a Recording from an NVR or DVR

The device will need a hard drive installed to view recorded events. The recordings can be downloaded using the Amcrest View Pro app if you would like to download the recording to a mobile device, the Amcrest Surveillance Pro software, or using a web browser like Internet Explorer.

Please note, some web browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, etc. may not be applicable in this process as it requires the use of a plugin if accessing from a browser.

Download a Recording Using Amcrest View Pro

For more information on how to download events using the Amcrest View Pro app, please refer to the information provided below.

Step 1: Open the Amcerst View Pro app and access your camera.

Step 2: Tap on the main menu icon (  ).

Step 3: Tap on Playback.

Step 4: Tap on the ( + ) icon.

Step 5: Select a channel that you would like to view and allow the recordings to load in the interface. Tap on the record type option to select a record type (All, Regular, Alarm, Motion, Smart) and tap Start Playback.

 

Note: Scroll through the playback timeline to select a specific time or event if needed.

Step 6: While the event is playing, use the manual record icon (  ) or the manual photo (snapshot) icon (  ) to retain the event to your app. If you are manually recording an event, tap the manual record icon again to stop the recording.

Note: All manually retained events will be saved into the My Saved Files folder located in the main menu of the app.

Step 6: Tap on the main menu icon (  ) again and tap on My Saved Files.

Step 8: Tap and hold the selected file located in the folder that you want to download.

Note: All manually recorded video events will be stored in the video folder (). If you took a manual snapshot, click on the snapshot icon (  ) to access the snapshot menu. If you would like to select all recordings, tap on the select all icon (  ).

Step 9: Tap on the download icon (  ) to download the file to your mobile device.

All any permissions requested to download the file. The file will then begin downloading to the photo/ gallery on your mobile device.

Download a Recording Using the Amcrest Surveillance Pro 

Recordings in the playback menu can be downloaded (exported) using the Amcrest Surveillance Pro software. To download the free software click here.

Step 1: Open the Amcrest Surveillance Pro software and click on Playback.

Step 2: Select your device from the device menu and click on the Time option to display the calendar

Note: If a recording is present the date will have a blue dot. Enter the start and end times of the recording and click Search.

The Event menu will display all events located on the microSD card for your selected device from the date range entered.

Step 4: Choose a recording from the records menu. Please note, if you do not want to trim the recording, click on the export icon  to begin downloading.

Trimming a Recording

If you would like to trim the recording before downloading it, click on the scissor icon (  ). You will notice a start and end duration displayed for the selected recording on the time bar. The first red bar will be the start time and the second red bar will be the end time of the event. Use your mouse to drag the red bars and modify them to a specified start and end time.

Click on the scissor icon again to begin exporting the file.

Step 5: Click on Browse to choose a destination folder for your recording, then click on the Export Format dropdown menu and select MP4. Click OK.

Note: Since the default format is ASF it is highly recommended to choose either AVI or MP4 to view your recording.

The recording will begin to download.

Once the recording has finished downloading, click on the Downloaded tab. In the Downloaded tab, click on the Folder icon to access the recording.

The recording can be played on the default media player of your computer.

Download a Recording Using a Web Browser

The Playback or Search menu allows you to view recorded data retained in the system. This includes recording types such as regular, motion detection, (MD), Alarm, etc.

Step 1: Open Internet Explorer, and access the web user interface (web UI) for your device. For more information on how to access the web UI, click here.

Step 2: Click on Playback or Search.

Step 3: In this menu, you will notice a calendar, if events are available for this day a small dot will be visible underneath the day. Select the date from the calendar and click on the File List option.

Step 4: Select a recording from the file list. Note the start and end times of the recording and click on the scissor icon.

Step 5: Enter the start and end time of the recording into the video clip (scissor icon) interface and click the Save icon.

Choose a path that you would like the recording to download to and click OK. The recording will download to your computer using the specified path.

How to Filter AI Recordings in the Playback Menu (AI NVR)

Standalone AI cameras may not be able to differentiate between AI record types. To filter and display these recordings it is highly recommended to use an Amcrest AI NVR that supports this function.

Amcrest AI NVRs utilize four record types in the playback menu, “Regular” (green) which supports 24/7 continuous recordings, “Alarm” (red) which displays external alarm events (if applicable), “Motion” (yellow) which displays motion detection events, and IVS (blue) which displays AI events detected by the system. Please note, if you are using face detection, the IVS record type maybe indicated in the playback menu with a “F” next to the IVS record event.

Note: To view AI recordings it is highly recommended to use the Smart Search option located in the AI menu. For more information on using the smart search menu, click here.

To filter between different recording types in the playback menu, use the record type selection banner at the bottom of the interface.

The device will be set to display all recording types in the file list. To display only AI recordings in the file list, deselect the All checkbox and enable the IVS checkbox only. Click on the File List icon to display the record types.

How to Use the Smart Search Menu (AI NVR)

The Smart Search menu allows the user to view and access AI events from a centralized location. For more information, please refer to the information provided below.

Viewing Face Detection Events

All face detection data retained by the system can be accessed via the Face Detection option located in the Smart Search menu. Enter a start and end date and time for the event and list any attributes of the event such as Gender, Age, Expressions, etc. that you would like to view in the Smart Search interface and click Search.

A display of all face detection data will be displayed along with facial attributes. Click on the event you would like to view, and a clip of the event will be displayed in the built-in player. Click on the play icon to view the event.

Viewing Face Recognition Events
All face recognition data retained by the system can be accessed via the Face Recognition option located in the Smart Search menu. A search by attributes or a search by picture can be performed. Searching by attributes will load all face recognition data found in the system whereas searching by a picture will filter and display only the faces chosen by the user.
To search by attributes, enter a start and end time of the event in the interface and then click Search.

The interface will display all face recognition data. To view the event, click on the event you would like to view then click the play button in the interface.
To view specific face recognition data by image, click on the Search by Picture tab located in the Face Recognition interface.
If searchable images are already uploaded into a face library click on Face Library and select an image from the interface, then click OK to begin a search. If you would like to add images locally click Local Upload and follow the on-screen prompts to upload images. A USB flash drive with applicable images (in jpeg format) can be used to upload images to the DVR if using the local interface. Once an image has been loaded, enter a start and end time of the event, and click Search.

Viewing IVS Events
Any IVS data retained on the system can be viewed using the IVS Smart Search interface or via the playback menu if an IVS schedule is set in the system.
To view IVS data using the IVS smart search interface, click on the IVS option located in the Smart Search menu. Enter a start and end time of the event and click Search.

A layout of all IVS events captured by the device will be displayed. To view the event, select the event from the interface and click the play button.

How to Access an Amcrest NVR in a Web Browser Using Internet Explorer Mode on Microsoft Edge

Internet Explorer Mode (IE Mode) is a functionality built inside the Microsoft Edge browser that will allow your device to function inside a traditional IE infrastructure. IE Mode is available in both Windows 10 and Windows 11 OS and is useful for devices or features that do not currently support javascript in other web browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, etc. For more information on how to view your device using IE mode inside Edge, please refer to the information provided below.

Step 1: Open Microsoft Edge and enter edge://settings/defaultbrowser into the browser

Step 2: In the Default Browser menu, click on the “Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode” dropdown menu and select Allow then click Restart to restart the browser.

Step 3: Locate the IP address for your camera (Amcrest IP Config tool, etc). Once you have the IP address for your camera, navigate back to the Default Browser settings menu and in the Internet Explorer mode pages section, click Add.

Step 4: Enter the IP address for your device into the Add a page prompt and click Add. The IP address you entered will be displayed in the Internet Explorer mode pages section.

Step 5: Exit out of Edge and open the browser. Enter the IP address you entered into the browser to load the device’s interface. You can now access the web user interface for your device using internet explorer mode, if any plugins are required please allow all plugins to view and access all camera functions.

How to Export and View Recordings From a NVR/DVR

This quick article will show you how to export and view any recorded events or videos located on your device.  This process will require the use of a USB flash drive. We recommend a flash drive with a minimum of 8GB to efficiently complete the process. For more information on how to export and view recordings, please refer to the information provided below.

Step 1: Log into the local GUI of your device.

Step 2: Click Playback.

Step 3: Insert a flash drive into a USB port on your device. 

Right click on the interface to exit the prompt.

Step 4: Click on the File List icon.

Step 5: Select which recording you would like to export from the file list and click the Save icon.

Step 6: Ensure the correct files are selected and click Backup.

Step 7: Select or create a folder in which the recording will be exported and click Start.

Step 8: Allow the recording or recordings to export and click Save.

Step 9: Remove the flash drive from the device and insert it into your computer to locate the .dav file. If you are having trouble playing back the .dav you can use the Amcrest Smart Player to play the file or you can use a third party video converting software to convert the file to a proper format.

Exporting a Recording Using a Web Browser. 

If you would like to export a recording in a web browser, access the web user interface (web UI) of the device using Internet Explorer or IE mode in Microsoft Edge. This process requires the use of a plugin in the web browser so a compatible browser is required for this process.

Step 1: Open the web UI and log into the interface using the username and password for your device. Allow all permissions to access the interface. Click on Playback.

Step 2: Click on the File List icon.

Step 3: Select the recording from the file list and notate the start and end times. Click on the trim icon.

Step 4: Enter the start and end time into the interface and click the Save icon.

Step 5: Choose a destination for the recording and allow the recording to be exported to the file destination.
